Atheist’s Billboards Written in Hebrew & Arabic Will Target Muslims & Jews

The Blaze has consistently reported about atheists’ use of billboards to spread their message of non-belief. But while their efforts initially seemed aimed at poking fun at Christians and others who embrace the nation that God exists, lately their methods have changed. Rather than making general and sweeping statements, organizations like American Atheists are targeting specific ethnic groups in an attempt to find non-believers.

Earlier this month, we told you about the campaign that African Americans for Humanism (AAH) recently put together. Now, just weeks later, American Atheists will unveil a special billboard initiative that targets Muslims and Jews. The organization plans to place one of its anti-faith signs in Paterson, New Jersey — an area with a high Islamic concentration. The Jewish billboard will appear in a Brooklyn neighborhood that, not surprisingly, has a heavy concentration of Jews.
As CNN reports, the billboard will read, “You know it’s a myth…and you have a choice,” the billboards proclaim. Both will include English along with the language that is most appropriate to each community. AA president Dave Silverman maintains that the purpose of the campaign is to reach non-believers who are embedded in highly-religions communities.

“Those communities are designed to keep atheists in the ranks,” Silverman says. “If there are atheists in those communities, we are reaching out to them. We are letting them know that we see them, we acknowledge them and they don’t have to live that way if they don’t want to.”
Silverman, who says he knows the billboards will cause a stir, says his group does not intend to incite or anger anyone. Instead, he says he’s attempting to reach non-believers. This push to encourage people to “come out” has been something that atheist groups have ramped up in recent years.

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 10:27amAtheists are hypocrites that steal from Christian truth. For example, I was reading the other night while my daughter was watching “The Apprentice”. Penn Jilllette is one of the contestants and as the project leader he was asked by the Donald who he would kick off of his team. Penn said that he would get rid of Lou Ferrigno. Ferrigno reacted very angrily and was seriously upset. Now if Penn practiced what he preached he would have told Ferrigno tough crap that is my decision and I don’t care what you think. What did Penn do he saw Lou was offended and then groveled and begged big Lou for forgiveness. Instead of practicing what he believed, the survival of the fittest, he borrowed the concept of forgiveness from the bible because he felt sorry – another biblical concept. Atheists are not consistent in their thinking but they are consistently showing themselves as hypocrites!

There is a line in The Matrix that is true: “The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you’re inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system, and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.”

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 12:34pm@SQUIDVETOHIO – Please provide references for “(t)he Bible has been substantiated historically, archaeologically, scientifically and logically”. It might be a fun read, but …
Science is antithetical to religion. That is, religion says obey or submit, whereas the practice of science is to question. Granted, there are those who claim to be scientists when instead they are theists of a different sort, but the scientific method includes the ability to falsify. Religion makes no allowance for future understanding.
Logically, religion muddies the waters as well: reality must have a creator, but god doesn’t need one? You must believe in Jesus because his mom didn’t have sex? God’s greatest enemy will punish you for opposing him? Really, this is all logical to you?
Archaeologically there isn’t evidence the Jews were in Egypt as slaves, the shroud of turin was shown to be a fake, and generally speaking nothing tangible to conclude anything affirmative about the life and times of Jesus.
Historically? Egyptian accounts of foretold virgin birth millennia before Jesus, re: Horus. There wasn’t a census to move Joe and Mary across the dessert, and no historians of the day talk about him or his “miracles”.
We could expound on all of the above and more, however, if you want 2+2=4, start with “existence exists, and I choose to live in it.” Do not use force nor fraud in your dealings and all will be good. How hard is that?

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 1:27pmI, too, totally disregard the notion of “atheists actually believing in god but denying it so they can sin more”. It is an old argument that is absurd. Being an agnostic, I have no idea if there are any deities. But extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, . . . and merely having real locations in texts, . . .or finding archeological credence to a people group in no way corroborates the fantasy portion of the story. And as for christianity, . . . the fantasy IS what it’s all about, right? Historical sites are just side notes.

Calm Voice of Reason, how can you reasonably state that you find the concept of an infinite God “too small”?
DoseofReality, your name is hypocritical since you deliberately misrepresent what the Bible says
to justify your rejection of it.
Infidelible, you start out with Squid’s statement about the Bible, then you go into a rant about “religion”. Religion is a separate concept. The Bible has nothing against science. The scientific method also says something has to be observed or reproduced in order to be proven, yet scientists declare evolution proven despite having been neither. Now let’s talk about logic. You claim logic is against the Bible, then you decline to use any in your arguments. The universe must have a creator, because it is physical and something physical cannot come from nothing. God does not need a creator because He is beyond physical laws. God’s greatest enemy will punish you for opposing Him? What nonsense is that? Are you referring to Satan? Satan will be punished alongside the rest of the non-believers for eternity. Satan does not rule hell. If you’re going to attack the Bible, at least find out what it says. As far as history, there is more than enough historical evidence of Jesus’ life that even if you deny He is the Son of God, you can’t deny his existence without displaying willful ignorance.
Report Post »Calm Voice of Reason
Posted on March 2, 2012 at 6:39pm@Memphis Viking: Yes, I do believe that the concept of god as promoted by religion in general and Christianity in particular is a rather limited one. That an infinite being is concerned about the minutiae of human life, don’t eat shellfish, avoid blended fabrics, etc., in addition to the creation story which takes place over mere days within a universe that works on scales of hundreds of millions of years…it’s all too provincial.
Additionally, all “logical” arguments in support of divine creation boil down to the begging the question. Who created god? “God is beyond physics”. Well, that’s the sort of thing you kind of have to support with evidence, objective evidence. Furthermore, there is ample evidence in support of contemporary origins of the universe, and the notion that “something cannot arise from nothing” is not a notion supported by current science as it has been known since 1948, it is in fact a common occurrence at the sub-atomic level and is one of the consequences of Heisenberg‘s ’uncertainty principle’. It is possible to observe particles and their attendant anti-particles arising from the energies of the quantum “foam”. This body of knowledge is well supported and if you would like to refute the conclusions of generations of astrophysicists, you had best catch up on your reading.

I understand why you would be highly skeptical of the term “unicorn” as found in the King James Version of the Bible. However, where in that name do you derive that this is a mythical horse? Further, the name just indicates that it could feasibly be an animal with a single horn…How do you dispel the one-horned rhinoceros? It’s an animal on four legs, with thick hide, and a singular horn. Very similar to a horse, but not of the same species. Could this animal be what the authors in the King James Bible be referring to? I think so.
Further, if you look at the geographical territory of the one-horned rhinoceros, then it would perfectly coincide with the geographical regions of where the Bible was written nearly 4,000 – 6,000 years ago. I don’t happen to think this is a coincidence. Do you agree?

Try to yahoo search my screen name and that should lead you to the artwork.

Uttering “because I have faith” only changes the question from why do you believe to why do you have faith. The only difference is that you removed “evidence” from the list of possible answers. Faith is simply believing that something is true because you want it to be true. That is neither honest nor something to based real world decision on.”

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 8:07amThe nine gifts of the Spirit still operate in the congregations of true believers.I have seen and heard them in operation. Read Acts 2:1-4..This is where it started on the day of Pentecost. Jesus said, “these signs SHALL follow them that believe, They shell speak with new tongues.” Mark 16:17. I have had visions and even heard the voice of God speak to my while in Okinawa Japan.God is real to them who are filled with his Spirit..If you have not the Spirit, you are none of his. Romans 8:9.
Report Post »DeavonReye
Posted on March 2, 2012 at 10:07amBoMustGo, I have been in MANY services where “the gifts of the spirit” were being used. You may FEEL that it is something spiritual happening, but in reality, it is just a person believing themselves to being “used of the spirit”, . . . interupting the service with jibberish, . . . then another person believing themselves being used “in the interpretation of the tongues”, and using all sorts of typical buzz phrases that sound like “god” to them. It is still ONLY a “matter of faith”. The “interpretter” finishes, and the congregation swoons and groans in unison. But what is it all about then TWO people start “giving interpretation”, and start saying two different things? It means exactly what you should. They are just thinking what THEY believe god, through the “holy spirit”, would say.
The other “gifts” are equally “by faith”, . . . and “faith” isn’t evidence.

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 12:21pmYou’re talking about “faith” matters, yet can say that “I don’t have a clue”? That’s laughable. What YOU feel is true isn’t always the case. You can claim that people “didn’t do their holy spirit indwelling right”, but that is just as laughable. It is ALL about a person’s unsubstantiated beliefs. And when you have people in the mix, . . . you will have error . . . or even the smug satisfaction that you’re “right in there with the holy spirit and people [then] must know that you’re righteous”. It is simple psychology 101.

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 5:49amI just don’t understand atheist organizations that run these ads – as a Christian you do not want to see anyone ‘go to hell’ so there is an obligation to at least give everyone an opportunity to accept Christ – it is not ‘soliciting’, it is a genuine concern for another’s soul. The problem is why does an atheist care if you believe in God? The argument they make ‘to reach non-believers who are embedded in highly-religions communities’ doesn’t make much sense. If that was the case would you not just advertise support groups for atheists – give them place to go where they are with like minded people? Why dispel someone else’s belief system by mocking it as a myth?
Chameleonx, I find it disingenuous for someone to support the atheist campaign, pushing their ideology and mocking those of faith while at the same time you use the terminology of ‘soliciting’ when describing a person of faith whose only concern is your soul.
Report Post »chameleonx
Posted on March 2, 2012 at 6:03amI would have to respectfully disagree DSTARR55. You can say you’re concern for my soul all you want. But why would you be concern for my soul? Let’s say their this individual who is not a Christian. This person lives a good life. Like everyone else he has made mistake but strives to be a better person. As like everyone he passes away. To an atheist that person is dead. But to Christians, Muslims, and probably many others they believe that person to be in hell because he wasn’t apart of their religion. I have studied a lot about the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) throughout my life. I have tried and tried to see either of these religions as being true. But after careful study it is all just faith. This is why I have come to the conclusion of being a deist and support atheist. I can respect another persons faith. But I hate when they try to push their religion onto other people.

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 6:16amwe care about whether or not you believe in God because your beliefs affect us all as a country. Look at all the wars and billions of deaths that have been caused by religion. How many were tortured and died from the inquisition? How many religious zealots have murdered or sacrificed people in the name of religion? Islam? hundreds of thousands, Christians? hundreds of thousands during the crusades. How many died under the spell of Jim Jones in Guyana? He was a supposed Christian. Only when we realize that there is no God and never was, that religion is a sham and that all we have is each other and science to allow us to prosper, will we succeed as a species. It’s just like Dems and Republicans, until we put aside the petty differences and do what’s best for our country, we’ll never have anything but internal strife because of either a lack or belief, or too much of a non-reality based one.

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 6:22amI disagree, if we didn’t have religion to back the wars, we’d use something else. Posted on March 2, 2012 at 6:25amChameleonx, You ask why should a Christian be concerned for your soul? That is like asking a fireman why they want to save someone from the fire. That is the Christian faith – to make sure everyone has the opportunity to know God, to accept Christ, to see no one suffers – a Christian is not to hide the light of their faith, they are to share it so others will know God and not suffer hell – that should give you some comfort that they are not ‘pushing’ their religion but have concern of your eternal welfare. So may I ask, why would an atheist care if someone is a Christian? Why do they have a need to mock and ridicule a person of faith?
Report Post »chameleonx
Posted on March 2, 2012 at 6:36amA fireman actually rescues people from fires. There is just such thing as hell or Jesus dying on the cross. It is not about sharing your faith or pascals wager. Religion causes paranoia and disproves critical thinking. It is not a conspiracy against Jesus or religion. It is questioning the historical evidence to any religion. If there is no evidence to support any religion then why should anyone follow that religion? It’s just faith. Here are two websites that I use. I can respect that you‘re a Christian but I want to show you why I’m critical of Christianity and other religions. http://www.usbible.com/usbible/ http://www.christianitydisproved.com/ These two sites are critical of Christianity. You must have missed the verses relating to Christianity where “you must be born again” aka accept Christianity as your religion. Here is the bible verse: Ye Must be Born Again! (John 3:7) Now, I understand there are many, many Christians who interpret their faith differently and there are liberal Christians who feel even people of good nature will get into heaven or have a good after life. But there are many, many Christians who do interpret their faith into showing people that they will go to hell.

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 8:14amSeems to me, from what i see on this board and others, the only reason Christians care is so that they can point fingers and feel superior that they are going to heaven and everyone who doesnt feel like them is going to rot in hell for eternity. Its a pride thing, its about belonging to a club. The amount of joy Ive heard from these compassionate Christians as they delight in the fact of others peoples eternal torment. When i was a kid and went to church i used to hear compassion, love, peace, understanding, forgiveness. You wouldnt know it now a days though, especially from the people on this site. Posted on March 2, 2012 at 9:45amchameleonx, I agree with what you have said here. I am agnostic. What we have are “religions of faith”. Now, some claim atheism is a religion [which can't be the case, but I'll humor them]. Okay. What does the “religion of atheism” believe? They “believe” in the scientific method. They are interested in critical thinking. They are skeptical of that which SEEMS like some sort of weird fairytail. They worship nothing and have no music to gather around and sing along with. They are always striving to know what is factually relevant, not in “agreeing with an unknowable statement of faith”.
Being agnostic, I do not rule out any “gods/goddesses”. Though I attempted to “reach god” for ~20 years and having absolutely NO experience outside myself, I come closer to atheism, as a result.
Anyway, good arguments above.

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 10:42amHitler was either religious, or used religion to propel his mission. He constantly referenced a creator, the belt buckles of Nazi’s read “Got Mitt Uns” or “God With us”. The first treaty they made was with the Catholic church and the church helped Nazi’s flea south after the war.
Then if you look at the regimes who leaders were Atheists like Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Kim Jong Il, these guys essentially thought of themselves as a God. The State was the church and these guys were the supreme leaders. I believe when Kim Jong Il was born they said the mountains sang and spring turned to winter. They said his first golf outing resulted in 13 hole in ones.
These guys may have been atheists, but it wasn’t their atheism that drove them to be horrible people. They were just flat out horrible people, as are the people of religion who have caused mass harm. None of these regimes were built upon rational thinking, critical thought and common sense.
Anybody who wants to kill, torture and make people miserable is not a good person regardless of whether or not they are religious.

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 4:16pm@ ChameleonX – You like websites? http://www.answersingenesis.org/ will answer just about any of the common supposed proofs of the Bible’s inaccuracy.
@ ArmyWife – No one who doesn’t know God can get into Heaven. No one can live a moral life without God. We are all equally unworthy of Heaven. A Catholic priest is not someone I would turn to for Biblical advice. But you’re right, no one goes to hell for how they live their life. They go to hell for rejecting God’s gift of salvation.
@ DoseofReality – Seems to me that you view all Christians through your own lens of cynicism. It has nothing to do with how anyone feels. Without Jesus you will go to hell, regardless of what you believe. A true Christian cares, that’s why they try to warn you. You, like others before you, try to ridicule Christians by calling Christianity a club, as if we were some sort of elitists. But what other club has as one of it‘s main membership requirements the necessity to admit that you’re not
worthy to join?
@ Deavonreye – From Webster’s Dictionary. Religion. 4: a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. By definition, atheism is a religion. It even has it’s own creation myth.
