National Atheist Party Cancels Its Secular Political Convention Due to Lack of Funding

Secular activists across America were in for a major let-down on Wednesday when the National Atheist Party (NAP), a progressive political movement intended to give non-believers a grander voice in government, cancelled its upcoming secular convention. The startling announcement, especially considering atheists’ continued push for power and prominence, was made on the organization’s web site.
TheBlaze first told you about NAP in January 2012; IRS documentation shows that the organization was originally filed with the government in September 2011. NAP is registered as a 527 political party (a non-profit that cannot specifically support candidates — only issues) that is believed to be the first of its kind in American history.
It was founded by Troy Boyle, a 45-year-old corporate legal representative and is centered upon the core beliefs that there is no God and that secularism is a viable path for national social and political progression.
NAPCON2012, the political party’s massive convention, was scheduled to take place in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 5 and 6. It was supposed to be a monumental event that was slated to embrace these very sentiments. And following the Reason Rally, an atheist Woodstock of sorts this past March, it appeared as though the movement was poised for monumental growth.
While non-believers may still be poised for “theological” and political prominence, Boyle’s group, which was present and involved with the Reason Rally event, appears to be fizzling — at least in the moment. On Wednesday, he delivered sad news for the movement.
“Big dreams at the founding of an organization must be abandoned or modified to suit reality,” he wrote. “NAPCON 2012 was supposed to be our biggest and best public event; our chance to show the U.S. that we could fund and organize a large, noteworthy and impressive ‘Secular Summit’ that would attract media buzz and even more interested members and donations.”
Boyle said that accomplishing these goals isn’t possible at this time. Admitting that “the donations simply aren’t there,” he said that the NAP would go bankrupt if the group continued with the event as originally planned. “Our eyes got bigger than our belly,” he said, citing the line his grandmother once told him. But finances aren’t the only problem.
“Suffice it to say that too many critical players have backed out of the event, and too few donations and sponsors have committed to supporting it,” Boyle continued. “Whether that is our failure to market the event properly or we simply didn’t have enough seed money to insure its success is moot.”
All hope isn’t lost for atheistic enthusiasts, though. Despite being “disappointed and disheartened,” Boyle pledges in the statement to pour more time and energy into the NAP’s 2013 convention. He also promised to reimburse any individuals or groups that have already donated to the cause.

Pray tell, who is going to be behind this backlash, and what will the results be? Whenever I see someone say this (and it’s the second time in two days here on The Blaze), it seems to come from people who claim to be Christians and yet threaten death or injury upon others who don’t conform to their specific beliefs.
I’m a Christian already, but if someone else called himself a Christian while threatening violence against my fellow Americans, I’d side with those who were being threatened. Jesus sat with the poor, the sick, and the sinners… not the Pharisees. If you‘re threatening others under the misguided belief that it’s the “Christian” thing to do… you’re not following God or the Bible. You’re serving a different master, and boy, is his realm toasty!

So, YET, keep appeasing the islamists and when they have taken over, the homosexuals and athiests and anyone deemed to be an infidel will wonder how it came to be that their heads are on the chopping block. Funny thing is, that for all the grief that these groups give Christians, the Christians aren‘t trying to chop anyone’s heads off.

Which Amalekites do you refer to? The ones that come to mind:
1. The ones exterminated in Samuel 15. Probably not these, as they’re all dead.
2. The Armenians, as they were called Amalekites until the 19th century. Not sure why you’d mention these.
3. The Nazis. Again, mostly exterminated. Any that remain (or Neo-Nazi groups) should be prosecuted if they attempt violence.
4. The Palestinians, who were rebranded Amalekites in the 1970s by fundamentalist rabbis to give their followers religious reasons to kill them. Similar to fundamentalist Islamists and their jihad against Jews, these rabbis say that the Palestinians must be killed “until their ‘memory be blotted out’ forever.”
5. The Amalekites mentioned in the Book of Mormon, which I admit I have not read.
No matter which group you refer to if they do not act in violence or oppress others I would support their right to their beliefs over any group against them that would use violence to crush their beliefs.

You didn’t answer my question. Which group were you referring to?
@13th imam
“Atheists just try to tear down crosses, put up to honor fallen servicemen and women.”
I do find that specific example offensive; I think it goes overboard when the item is clearly not meant to be religious but simply a remembrance.
“have ALL references to GOD taken out of any public spaces. Bullies they be.”
Now, using government-owned land for religious prayers, murals, etc? Or placing such items in public schools or led by government employees? I definitely wouldn’t call it bullying to remove endorsements of one religious view in those cases; I agree with the Constitutionality ruling from the Supreme Court in those cases. I wouldn’t want Islam in there; I wouldn’t want Christianity in there; and I wouldn’t want an anti-theist proclamation like “God is fake” in there.
I think we could all agree on that!

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 3:26pm@ ANDYET…well if the bible is accurate in regard to its doctrine about the evil state of men and the graciousness of God then yes in a very real sense you are correct. Let me explain. God proclaimed from the beginning that the wages of sin (rebellion against His commands) was death. Now if humanity, all of whom the bible declares has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, has sinned then all ultimately stand guilty before God. So in that regard, any time and anything that is good that happens to men is therefore by the grace of God, because our sins have earned us condemnation and death. In fact, every day that passes that God allows us to live is an act of grace granting all time to repent of their evil deeds. God, also gives even the most evil among us time and opportunities to repent, however, some men ultimately refuse and perpetrate their evil upon others in the meanwhile. However, if God so chooses to take a life, since they already stand guilty before him, then he is not unjust in doing so. Therefore, while it is stll called today he pleads with men to repent. But make no mistake, God is not the author of sin nor is he responsible for the evil acts of men. That is the choice of men and the consequences of a fallen world. So in the context of those doctrines, everything good that happens is due to God’s grace in spite of who I am, and all the evil and suffering that exists is by the choice and actions of men. Thank you…..

Money? God does not require any money from me, salvation does not depend on works, at least I do not believe it does though some do. But I tithe well over 10% through the year. We give to many causes beside the church offering, my favorite is Christmas Child shoe boxes. Our family did 50 last year! You wonder why Christians dont care about Atheism? There you go.
If we forced a child to believe in God, it would be a violent retort WITH government backing
But if a religious person wishes to defend their beliefs and questions whether their non-moralistic anti-ethical behaviors are to be taught to their children funded with government money BEFORE they are adults, they are also attacked for THEY know that if they can instill it into our children now, they wont change.
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
You think these secular clowns dont learn anything from the Bible? Tell me this is not true in fact try to tell me that they dont use the moral teachings from the Bible to pit children from their PARENTS. And yes, that was predicted in the Bible as well.
Funny that a 4000+ thousand year book of what you would refer to “fairy tales” has more value through the years than anything a homosexual and/or an atheist has broguht to the table.
That is unless you want to stick with Dawkins argument about ALIENS planting us as seeds…
So who are the aliens? Who created them?
God?
Nah… must be other aliens.
(Who created them? Gotta run out of aliens eventually)
In short, I disagree and feel you are short sighted about this.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 12:20pmDefense? Argument? Lol, you are too suspicious! I assume nothing about you. You inferred that God required me to give money, I am merely trying to explain that you misunderstand what the Bible actually says on this matter. Yes, as Christians we ARE expected to help those in need. But it is a blessing for the giver. This is what I said you probably do not understand, but if you do indeed give to charity then maybe you do understand. So why then do you think a Christian’s giving would be any different from your own? You do not do it out of obligation, neither do we. It is charity.
The same holds true for the church tithe. Most churches do not require any giving, we give what we see fit and we also see where the money goes as it is the congregation that runs the church and pays the church employees. At least this is how it is done in Baptist circles. I don’t know that I would attend a church that required payment.

“A party founded on the conviction to believe absolutely anything, and the notion that one deserves respect for this trait.”
Since when do Christians believe absolutely everything? I certainly don’t believe in leprechauns or Thor. I don’t believe that creationism should be taught as science. I don’t believe that the sun will suddenly decide to not rise tomorrow.
I do believe that prayer holds power, that many of the teachings of the church can provide a good moral basis for living, and that there is a force (that I call God) who touches all things and provides me with a sense of comfort and a promise that things will work out all right even when I have no rational reason to believe so.
Your taunts are not only disrespectful, they are also incorrect. Christians don’t believe in “absolutely anything;” we just believe in some things that you, apparently, do not. If those beliefs don’t harm you, what’s the issue in holding them?

Then ask him. You don’t have to be a Christian to pray to God. In fact you can say this prayer and find the truth regardless of your intelligence. “Dear Heavenly Father I repent of my sins and accept Your Son Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.” It’s that simple. I would suggest you do some actual biblical research first so when you pray that prayer you really mean it and know what you are praying about. You wouldn’t want God to think you are of below average intelligence.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 11:15amAtheists are sick in their souls and should just accept the Lord into their lives. There’s really no such thing as atheism, as one can never unequivocally disprove God. These are people who are just mad at God and want to destroy our rights and religion. I will not comply. We’re a nation UNDER GOD. WAKE UP, PEOPLE.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 11:24amThe fact that your handle references Orwell might have just created enough irony to tear a hole in the ozone layer. Did you actually read that book? Did you notice the part where he explains that the ‘proles’ are allowed to practice their religion because it keeps them placid, stupid, and uninterested in public issues? Please read the book again.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 3:45pmIt is SO silly when people say “just accept Jesus as your savior”. A person can’t be MADE to believe something like that. Not and be honest at the same time. It is as likely to do that as it would be for you to “just accept that Faeries exist”. Being agnostic, I do not make a claim that “no gods exist”. However, I’m not going to live a lie just because people tell me I “need to”. It would be the same level of emptiness as it was the 20+ years I was IN christianity.
By the way, atheism isn’t about “disproving god”. It is a rejection of the claims of those who BELIEVE that a god exists. So the “proving” is upon you, as a christian.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 11:03amYou gotta love Militant Atheists. They have Absolute Faith in their beliefs, try to recruit others into their beliefs, form groups and have organized meetings to discuss and reinforce those beliefs, all, at the end of the day, revolving around God. They don’t even realize that theirs is a Religion. I wonder if they ever really pondered the phrase “The Lord works in mysterious ways”? Probably not.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 11:18amIt’s amusing to me that the most popular defense of Christianity these days seems to be simply pointing out that atheism is like a religion. As if to say, ‘Look! Atheism is just as asinine and faith-based as my religion!’ What a ringing endorsement of Christianity. God works in mysterious ways indeed, and the most mysterious thing about him is that he made his followers utterly incapable of explaining why others should believe he exists.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 11:26amANDYETITMOVES, Recently it has been a number of prominent atheists who have claimed that Atheism is a religion. And, that it should be treated as a religious status. It’s not so much that we are trying to bring it to the level of an accepted religion, they have tried this themselves. By doing so, they put their ‘religion’ in the same position as others when it comes to the so called separation of church and state. They may want to be careful what they wish for.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 11:38amAtheists try to claim God does not exist. It would be interesting how many still believe that when they are on their death beds. Atheists believe that everything was created by the laws of nature and that the laws of nature simply are as they are and control everything. I wonder if Jesus worried about the laws of nature when he raised Lazarus from the dead or when he quieted the storm or walked on the water. Or best of all rose from the dead and promised us eternal life. I wonder if Moses worried about the laws of nature when the Red Sea parted to let the Jews pass into the promised land. Our God is God of the Universe and God of the million universes if that is what there is. Our God is not a god controlled by mother nature. Those who believe God is controlled by nature are backroom atheists. At least these people admit their ignorance. There are many so called Christians who do not.
