Atheists Post ‘Nobody Died For Your Sins. Jesus Christ Is a Myth’ Anti-Easter Billboard In IL Park

An atheist banner in posted in a public park in Streator, Illinois, is gaining a fair amout of attention and creating quite a bit of controversy. The banner, which reads, “Nobody died for your sins. Jesus Christ is a myth,” comes as Americans — and the global community — celebrate what many believe to be Christ’s death on the cross and subsequent resurrection.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), an atheist group that frequently engages in offensive tactics to rail against what its member see as unfair government endorsements of religion, is responsible for this sign. The group sought permission to post the eight-foot by three-foot banner in Streator’s City Park after another group posted a Christian sign and crosses.

MyWebTimes.com has more about the FFRF’s battle over religious displays:

The national church watchdog organization [FFRF] said it placed the banner in Streator on behalf of a local resident’s request to counter the Christian display that has been on the city property since early March. City officials permitted both displays.

This is the fifth year in a row the Streator Freedom Association has displayed the Christian crosses in the park around Easter time.

“We think the city would be wise to exclude all displays from the park,”said Annie Laurie Gaylor, Freedom From Religion Foundation co-president.

“Our banner is a protest of the city’s continued decision to permit public property to be misappropriated to promote an exclusionary evangelical message. There are tax-free churches on practically every other corner where manger scenes and crosses may be placed. City parks ought to be free of religious divisiveness.”

City Manager Paul Nicholson spoke out about the incident, claiming that the city was in a position where it had to allow both banners to be present, as the park is a public forum.

“There are First Amendment issues at hand and the city cannot discriminate against anyone wishing to put up a display,” he explained. “I suspect the City Council will review its policy in the next few weeks on expressions of positions, both religious and secular on city property.”

Currently, the SFA has three wooded crosses and a sign posted, not far from the FFRF’s anti-Easter message that reads, “Jesus died for your sins.”

And while Gaylor hopes to strip religious groups of the right to use the property to display their messages, SFA President Ed Entwistle is defending his atheist group’s messaging.

“I just want everybody to have the same rights,” he explained. “As long as it’s permitted, I have no problem with it. I may not agree with what it says, but that’s why we are blessed to live in the country we live in today where we have these freedoms.”

The FFRF has permission to display its anti-Jesus Christ banner until April 13. The group has pledged to, once again, post the sign next year if the city continues to allow religious displays.

Might have something to do with the habit of believers using state force to make them follow your religions dictates.

Others tend to not like believers trying to force kids to pray in school or the use of terror tactics against kids to get them to follow your religion.

@LDONNELL Yes they are very afraid. They know deep down that what they profess to believe is not the truth. They have to get other people to believe it to so they won’t feel so empty. Their spirits are grieving because they are refusing to believe the truth of the believers.

@SCIENCE IS NOT EVIL There is never force in Christianity. No one is forced to pray..as a matter of fact..it takes self discipline to do so. The only religion in the world, of which I am aquainted, using force is Islam..and they will one day require your head if you do not bow to Allah…not the Elohim of the Christians..Yeshua..Jesus left his place of royalty in heaven and became a little lower than the angels(which He and Father YHWH created) by being born into mankind to a virgin..showing us how to live our lives…was crucified for our sins and rose the third day..completing the prophesy of the Old Testament..The entire Bible is about Him..We have.. because of Him and His sacrifice the choice of life eternal..by accepting Him and obeying His commands (which is love)..To love out Father Elohim with all of our heart and soul..and to love our neighbor as ourselves.. That also means repenting of our sins and turning away from them.. This life is short…Eternity is forever.

SCIENCEISNOTEVIL, I started school in the south in the late ’50s. Yes we had prayer and even started the day with the Pledge of Allegiance too. But, no child was forced to say the Lord’s Prayer and could be excused from the class room when we had a very short sermon over the intercom that may have lasted from 2 to 4 minutes. The Supreme Court decision of ‘64 put an end to that. These days it is the likes of YOU who do your best to keep the religious from being religious simply because they are on public property. It is the constant proselytizing by your ilk to try and force people to bend in your direction. Just can’t live and let live can you?

Why do Atheists try to force their religion on everyone else. Why are they so threatened whenever they hear or see anything Christian? Could it be that their “rationale” and belief in their “world view” or religion, Atheism, is so weak that the mere mention of another view throws them into a tissy fit? Atheist’s approach is no different than the Islamists take. Islamists use intimidation and force to shut down any opposing view or questions about their beliefs. Apparently, Islamists believe their religion cannot stand up to examination.

On the otherhand,Christianity has an entire discipline on examining the Christian faith and it is called Apologetics. Why, because we want any that will to examine and question Christianity.

To SCIENCEISNOTEVIL – I spent 12 years in Catholic school. Many of the students, who were raised as Catholics, didn’t believe and went through the motions. When we graduated from high school, they went their separate ways. Since then, a number of them have changed their minds and started practicing their faith. Others have not.

However, resentment and bitterness will eat away at you. Talk to any oncology specialist. They will tell you that people who have a positive attitude have a better chance of remission than those who are bitter and resentful.

And you might want to think about your definition of scare tactics. The same principle could be applied to any “prevention” program, whether it be drug prevention, distracted driving prevention or crime prevention.

No one has “made” children pray in public schools in the last fifty years. Furthermore, no one can be made to pray.

Atheists get angry and upset at believers because their belief system is based on standing against something. The whole purpose of what evangelical atheists preach is to tear down the beliefs of others. Often it is the result some personal slight (whether perceived or real) from religious people. So they are motivated by revenge. Sometimes they are just rebelling against the beliefs of their families. Sometimes they behave in a way that the major religions disapprove of so there is a self-preservation mechanism at play. Sometimes they have been disappointed by religion because things don’t work out they way they would like and they were told that the Bible promises a life filled with no hardships (it actually promises that following God will lead to persecution and tribulation). So then they assume there must not be a God because they prayed and things didn’t turn out the way they would like. Sometimes it is a combination of these things.

Most of the people I know who are just “convinced by science” that there is no God just choose not to believe and let other people choose to believe as they wish and don’t spend their time on the internet being disagreeable or putting up signs in parks. Not all – but almost all confrontational, evangelistic atheists I have ever met have some other axe to grind that motivates them.

No force? I suggest you read you bible then tell me their is no force. But you can not deny that your religion is very much into the use of terror to get people to follow it. Just look at the stories you tell kids about them being tortured forever if they fail to act the correct way.

Seams to me that if your religion was correct that the use of eternal torture would not be required to make people behave. Just look at all the joy many people on this site show when talking about fellow humans being tortured forever. They are joyful about the thought of humans being tortured for eternity.

@ScienceIsNotEvil You take things way out of context.

“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”

@SCIENCE IS NOT EVIL I would say that the fear of Satan was not there for me in the beginning. I had an aunt by marriage who kept me away from her Thanksgiving ordeurves by telling me the devil would get me if I touched them..and so whenever I heard leaves scampering across the sidewalk from the window..I feared it was Satan..that was when my mom told me about God and how he made us and could protect us from anything..I was only two then..and He has been my love for my whole life..that part of myself that I go inward to..I loved Him so much..and when I grew older..I walked the wrong way..wasting my life for not having lived in Him and obeying His commands..Than is something I will always regret..Of all the things we do in this world..it will all pass away..except for our personal relationship with Him.. I realize that not everyone has the same walk..but my prayer for you is that you will desire to know Him and seek Him.. He is a miracle worker.. He sent His only begotten Son to die for you and give you a life in the kingdom of God if you will but reach out and take it..Being a Christian does not make one perfect..but when we sin..we ask forgiveness and for help in turning away from that sin and with His help we can.To keep His commands is to walk in love..most have trouble with that including me.. but I aspire to that and with His help..one day I will…blessing to you.

      To SCIENCE

Obviously, you have a problem – a big one. I merely pointed that there were people in today’s world that went through religious instruction and when they were adults, decided whether or not they would follow it. Your response was :

You believer your god once killed a bunch of kids for making fun of a bald guy as well as flooded the planet, killling millions of innocents, simply because people upset him as well as threatens eternal torture for those who dare ask for evidence that he is real.

Both the Flood and Elisha and the bear happened long before the birth of Jesus Christ. And both stories, in a very broad sense illustrate that actions have consequences.

Now, speaking of forcing people to believe, let’s talk about Mao, or Pot Pol or the leaders of North Korea.

Regarding Eternal Damnation – well, if you truly believe that all those who ask God for evidence that He is real are eternally damned, I feel sorry for you.

That is amazing for It is written in our Fathers word that this is exactly what will be proclaimed by the scoffers of the end times: The word Scoffers in the Greek is “emp-akeek-tace” (Strong’s word 1703) and it means a derider by implication a false teacher, mocker, scoffer. Its from word 1702 which is “emp-aheed-zo” which means to jeer at i.e. to deride or mock. 1702 is made up of two Greek words 1722 and 3815. 1722 is “en” its a primary word denoting a fixed position in place time or state. 3815 is ‘paheece” a boy (as beaten with impunity) its from word 3817 with is “Pah-yo” which means to hit (as if by a single blow and less violent than 5180), specifically to sting (as a scorpion), smite, strike. You get the Idea, However I wanted all to see the words traced back to their primary meanings.

2nd Peter Chapter 3:3 – 4 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue from the beginning or the creation.

Then we have the Bible, God’s word, so I guess the Old Testament is fiction too, which is based on the Tora, so that means Hebrews are fiction as well. alternatively, what’s to be said about obamacare “forcing” everyone to buy health care, no matter what the reason is behind it. it’s only convenient to cry about religion “forcing” anyone to magically make someone do someone do something against their will, but no problem with a mandated law. you probably celebrate Christmas also, buy a xmas tree and call it a different name. of course that’s religion “forcing” you to celebrate that day also right? and also “forces” you to buy gifts and open them on the 25th of december. i bet you take religious holidays off also, but of course it’s only because your “forced” too. i‘ll be waiting for your example of religion forcing you to do something that’s against your will….maybe it’s the currency you use that has the words in god we trust on it. that religion thing is so strong forcing ppl to do things that is against their will.

Because believers are in la la land. Let me get this straight. You believe that an all powerful immortal god, created a son to come down to earth to die for our sins and then magically came back to life in order to protect us from himself? Wow. If god is immortal, then Jesus couldn’t be killed in the first place could he? Anyone older than 10 years old that believes this should be sent to a mental institution because they have serious problems. Your god allows people to be killed, tortured, hacked to death, kidnapped for slave / sex rings on a daily basis? That is some god you got there. Keep your delusions to yourself.

People, please………………..Atheist are throwing these Bible passages around because they know not the true meaning behind them. The Bible is a spiritual book. Even Jesus said those who have eyes let them see, those who have ears let them hear. The wages of sin is death. Death is not a literal meaning for dying. It means death to that persons spiritual being. Jesus says the Kingdom of God is within you. If you do not have God within you. Then you have the Kingdom of Hell within you. That to me makes more sense as to why Atheist are so unsettled within themselves. that is why they are always striving to stir up all of you Christians who take the Bible literally.
The Bible says that everyone is given a measure of faith. Sorry Atheist, I know you hate to admit it, but it’s in you too. What you choose to do with it is your will. That‘s what’s so great about God. He does not try to push you. So please do us a favor, don’t try to push your garbage on us who do believe.

The sheer volume of religious bigotry in this thread is astounding. I’m not even sure where to start with my response, but I will try my best.

First, it should be noted that Christians are particularly fond of dehumanizing atheists: They are referred to constantly in ways such as “the atheist”, as if to bring them down to a level of an animal. Names are thrown at us; emotional words are used to describe our nonbelief- almost like it is that of a disease. A disease that, in my case, I was extremely happy to contract. A disease that frees the mind from preconceived notions of hatred and intolerance towards those who are different than you.

Christians, you have no idea how free and beautiful life is, nature is, existence is: when you simply open your mind, when you abandon the irrational belief that a man rose from the dead 2000 years ago for our “Sins”. You teach us that we are born with shame, with sin, with corruption, and the only way to “wash this away”? Believe that a man named Jesus died on a cross and rose from the dead. Seems innocent enough? Nah. If you don’t believe this unsubstantiated rumor from antiquity, the loving creator God will sentence you to life in a hell that he created for his rebellious creations. Oh, and guess what? You have no problem telling atheists this. That they will, for all of eternity, burn. In excruciating, agonizing pain. Simply for not believing exactly what you believe. To me, that is the highest insult you could bestow upon

GOD lives and JESUS is the CHRIST. He is risen! He is risen!

This is the TRUTH and the greatest message ever offered to mankind.

I know that with all of my heart. What the opposition says matters not.

In fact, I feel sorry for them because they have been deceived by the evil one.

We know in our hearts that GOD lives and I am proud to say that I bow and kneel before the Master and give Him thanks many times everyday. Life is good in His world.

We Christians find peace everyday in a world that is upside down and full of lies and corruption. Again, I feel very sorry for those that do not have GOD in their lives.

      Christ said…

“43 ¶Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

      44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”

Now that is wisdom and truth.

I bear my testimony to you all the GOD lives and that Jesus is our Savior. I know this by the power of the Holy Ghost. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

      Vance, that doesn’t make sense.

Jesus was poor. He was a carpenter. he had no money.

If one is to perform great tricks, like say, pay off a man to pretend he is dead so JC can “resurrect” him, one would need money. He had none. There is no evidence that he had any wealth, because he was gone from Israel for a some 20 years, and upon returning, he was a pauper Rabbi.

So to say he was a “penn and teller” is fantasy, because those guys had the financial wherewithal to create the necessary environment for said tricks to work. You need money to perform tricks. Christ had none. I have no idea how he was able to do what he did; maybe he learned medicine, physics, or just plain Magick, or maybe he was the incarnation of YahWeh’s Son….I don’t know. But I do know that these things happened, so I hope to one day find out the nature of the incidents.

So, once again, you make some really weak arguments based on conjecture and speculation.

and would this joke “science” guy stop talking about stuff that happened 2500 years ago! Wow, talk about someone harping on the past….LET IT GO!

GEN 3:4 Then the serpent said “you will not surely die”. The word translated SOUL is NEPHESH, which means (a breathing creature) same word used for animals. The soul that sins, it shall DIE! I so agree, SAWBUCK. It’s been an all-out effort against Christians! Has been since early 1900′s after the Commies took over Russia and then started exporting their Commies to USA to Teach/corrupt (they finally admitted it last year..but we’ve known it for years) . Communism doesn’t work, didn‘t work and won’t work, even our Pilgrims tried it at first but then saw it wasn’t working and started deeding out private property!!!

What I think is a shame is that they don’t know what we Christians do, we who have had the privilege of studying the Bible and numerous courses, read great and insightful books , know who GOD is, Who JESUS is and who the HOLY SPIRIT is. We know there is NO conflict with Science as GOD invented everything.

What the Atheists can never explain (aside from the obvious on the big bang) is where did LOVE come from. They’ll admit there is EVIL… they won’t admit to GOOD. They can’t explain the simply fact that Love, Good and Evil are not required to procreate. Souls are not required. Consciences are not required so …where did they come from? That is our best come back to these POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS who have no idea about what they are missing in life and how very miserable they will be for eternity. They will wish they just disappeared, but no, they will be aware only in their own isolation, dark and nothingness for eternity . MIKE WALLACE RIP.

Hey, when the time comes, they will realize that disbelieving is enough, but there will be an intense self-knowledge of going beyond that and ‘mocking’ God.

The whole Biblical story put together, Old and New Testament, fits perfectly only if one believes. If it isn’t true, It is the greatest lie ever told. Nothing is that perfect ‘and’ a lie, with the prophesies come true and the Seal of the Spirit. By His invisibility, He is clarity.

They can believe whatever they want. We all carry our own death warrent. We are but a ‘vapor’ away from death. They try to ‘block’ their fears, only to end up with fear. They prefer ignorance rather than to know what brings on their torrment. Result: fear.

a great deal of knowledge was gathered by observation and by trial and error in all ancient cultures, but this is not science. Aristotle, for example, observed widely and theorized extensively, but he did not test his theories against his observations so he was not a scientist. Alchemy and astrology were highly developed in China, Islamic regions, India and ancient Greece and Rome, but only in medieval Europe did these become the sciences of chemistry and astronomy. ‘It is the consensus among contemporary historians, philosophers and sociologists of science that real science arose only once: in Europe.’ The leading scientific figures in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries were overwhelmingly devout Christians who believed it their duty to comprehend God’s handiwork

Jack Parsons is a legend in occult circles as he was a friend of both Crowley and L. Ron Hubbard and reached advance stages through the O.T.O. Demonic revelation not only gets at the very origin of both rocket science and the atomic bomb, but a similar thing happened among the Nazis when they were engineering rockets after they received a message from an angel through a medium how to develope such technology.

They will find out in the end when all of us stand before the throne of Judgment, as with the return of Lord Jesus upon the clouds of glory when he comes for his people at the last trumpet; all knees shall bend, all tongues confess that HE is the LORD.

You know, you just cannot explain faith to someone who doesn’t have any, and that’s sad. They are missing a serious piece of their soul. It makes you wonder why, doesn’t it? What happened to them to be so angry and determined to make us feel the same way? It makes me sad in my soul to see them this way, but you know, God loves them too.

This is a fight for our freedom and it has gone too far…..we used to be peaceful about our rights…..and not inflict our beliefs on otherrs…..this is just terrible!!

The saddest part of their belief there is no God, is that the don’t get that real evil exists that opposes God. In the war that is coming there will be no fence sitting, they will have to choose. All the ones who say they can be good without believing are going to be in for a rude shock. They think about us who believe far more than I do about them, in fact I really do not care. They won’t change my mind or heart. The blueprint for the world is in the bible, if they don’t want to see, hear and be warned, so be it.

Cool. Keep waiting around in life to die, hoping for something more. Something eternal. Something that has absolutely no evidence behind it at all.

In the mean time, I’ll enjoy what the world really has to offer. We only get one life; one existence; one shot. Make it count.

Science – Please be honest and truthful in your falsehoods.

Are you people nuts – Atheist constantly are spitting in the face of Christians and you would like us to be truthful and honest in our falsehoods – what?

Just like Glenn pointed out about the Liberal Media – one day they would be begging for Glenn to go back to only one hour of News a day – the same can be said for Atheist – They will be begging for Christians to return back to Earth after the rapture of the Church – Atheist soon will be left on Earth with EVERYTHING they asked for – Sin, Destruction, Chaos, Murder, Rape, and Hate. The difference is it will be magnified a 1000 fold.

I will be truthful – I do believe that God made a better deal to those that believe, than Satan did to those that don’t believe.

And if you atheists believe that you can put up a Billboard up denouncing Muslim Sharia Law that is coming, then your dead wrong – Those believers will destroy you – Mohammed when he flipped the writings of the Bible – he left out the parts about turning the other cheek and the good Samaritan.

It appears that very soon Atheist are going to get everything they asked for and more – enjoy your 7 years of pure Hell.

      part 2:
” 5) the “relationship” is a coincidence or so complex or indirect that it is more effectively called a coincidence (i.e. two events occurring at the same time that have no direct relationship to each other besides the fact that they are occurring at the same time). A larger sample size helps to reduce the chance of a coincidence, unless there is a systematic error in the experiment.

In other words, there can be no conclusion made regarding the existence or the direction of a cause and effect relationship only from the fact that A and B are correlated. Determining whether there is an actual cause and effect relationship requires further investigation, even when the relationship between A and B is statistically significant, a large effect size is observed, or a large part of the variance is explained.”

“Science – Please be honest and truthful in your falsehoods.”

First, your opening sentence contradicts itself in every shape, form, and fashion. Asking someone to be honest and truthful in an alleged falsehood is like claiming one should eat their vegetarian burger with as much meat as possible in it.

And thank you for the lovely sentiment- “Enjoy your 7 years in Hell”. How appreciative and kind of you… I can see the Christian love runs deep in your soul. What better way to spread your faith than by damning others different from you into a world of fire and pain?

I think she meant to say…“The only myth here is the fact that TRUE atheists ”DO NOT” even exist. If your having trouble doing the equasion ill explain further.

In the day of discerning the difference between atheist and agnostic, everyone concluded that to be an atheist one had to know EVERYTHING there is to KNOW about the ENTIRE UNIVERSE…the debated pushed the atheist to the more realist position of being an AGNOSTIC…which moves them one step closer to God…

And when they said one step closer to God they freaked out and went against the grain of knowledge and regardless of definition still call themselves Atheists but do not know everything there is to know to rule out the existence of a higher power…then they drift off to UFOS. LMAO

@S I N Evil, it really is not that much of a mystery is it? For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS

      Happy Resurrection Day!

@S I N Evil, God will judge, if found guilty His law will require your eternal life. There will be consequences to all that we do, a fact of life, not a tactic. There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God. For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.

If you do not believe that God exists, you will be judged accordingly, if you believe that God does exist and do not do what he has asked of you, you will be judged accordingly… but God does not want that… He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him… a consequence.

Um. Wait. In order to be an atheist, we would have to know everything about the entire universe? …..Then by your definition, wouldn’t that make a “true atheist” God? Atheism doesn’t claim any beliefs. It is not a religion. It is simply, the disbelief in god(s). Atheists do not claim to know everything about the universe, and they never will. Instead, they encourage openmindedness and curiosity. It is a beautiful thing to constantly search for knowledge and know there is always something more interesting and grandiose around the corner.
