Atheists Threaten Legal Action if Anti-God Sign Isn’t Posted Next to Michigan Nativity

Will it ever end? Every day, it seems there’s a new story about atheists and believers sparring over the presence of nativity scenes and Christmas messages on — even near — government property.

Following the deluge of bizarre scenarios, it’s going to be tough for critics to contend that the “War on Christmas” is merely a figment of believers’ imaginations. Now, atheists are taking on a nativity scene in Warren, Michigan, and they‘re threatening legal action if the local government doesn’t comply with their demands.

At the center of yet another atheist-led drama is a nativity that is currently stationed inside Warren’s City Hall. If the Christian-based imagery is going to be present, atheists contend that the town must also allow other religions displays that represent different viewpoints.

So, to level the playing field, they wish to post a sign that says (you may recall this same message from other nativity dramas, as this is frequently used by the FFRF):

“At this season of the Winter Solstice, let reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.”

Douglas Marshall, a member of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, is claiming that Warren Mayor Jim Fouts is discriminating against atheists and nonbelievers, while engaging in illegal censorship. So far, the mayor has ignored Marshall’s requests to post the sign.

While the local atheist has apparently tried to place the sign inside city hall, it has been removed, as he does not have the permission to do so. If Fouts continues to ignore the request to place the sign inside of the government building, the FFRF has pledged to file a lawsuit in the coming days.

Why do Atheists post signs that say what they do not believe. Should Christians post a signs that says atheists are spriitually blind sinners who choose to follow the ruler of the earth, Satan, without knowing because of they are so arrogant they believe they know more than the creator of the Universe ?

How does a family scene with some superhero with wings become so offensive to people who don’t believe in the supernatural anyway? If they want a family scene without the winged dude, they are welcome to put one up! Until then, SHADUP!

AMERBUR…we‘ve tried it the athesists’ way. Nazi Germany, Stalinst Russia, Khmer Rouge, Maoist China..ad nauseam..all vehemently, staunchly humanist/secularist regimes. They’re responsible for hundreds of millions of deaths and incarcerations between them. Make no mistake this is not about the constitution to atheists, it’s about removing Christianity from the culture. They merely hide behind the constitution. I’ve defied atheists whereever I see them to not take the Christmas holiday off. To demand everyone stay at work including the Federal, State and Local agencies that also take the holiday off. To litigate that the entire country not recognize a Christian occasion on that day. They don’t have the guts to do it. They’re not principled in the least, they’re just angry, bitter, twisted little people with a deep hatred of Christians.

I’ll take my chances with the Lord. If you want to look at it another way…it is just a good and moral way to live. Contact the FFRF and let them know that America knows that they are not representative of most Atheists.

Let them know how silly they are making themselves look:
Cowardly little folk all scared and intimidated by the sight of a simple Nativity Scene. Asking them if something so simple scares them, how do they manage to get up each morning and face their day? Telling them how, because they are so easily frightened, no one would want to be faced with depending on them in an emergency. And, of course, ending with: Merry Christmas! God Bless You!. And, if that sends their timorous little selves running and whining — So Be It!

Call Their Bluff, People! Let the FFRF know that they are an embarrassment to the Atheists they claim to be speaking for.

Atheists remind me of the Pagans that came to use Stone henge and pollute it’s history.
And they were just used by the Pagans, just as even now Socialists and Atheists are moving into churches? God has never changed except on the account of the hardness of people’s hearts, and that‘s why God’s Commandments to Moses changes slightly every time Moses goes up on the Mount. Exodus 20:24 An alter of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, thy oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee. 25 And if thou will make an alter made of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lifts up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it. 26 Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine alter, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.

I suppose they had better understanding way way back in the ancient days when the built Stone Henge, since they built it from stone which is not “Hewn” stone. Of course God commanded “If thou wilt make me an alter of stone”, meaning the which is not preferred by God, and yet if people do not understand that the Alter made of “earth” is actually the “Human mind in thought giving grace and thanks to God”, then an alter of stone is the next best thing.

Actually, the Nazis embraced religion (Christianity) as a way to help them make their ideology seem good and normal. Hitler is on record of even stating he wished Germany was a Muslim country. Clearly, he and the Nazis were not atheistic, they were quite eager to use religion to their ends.

You didn’t read the story, in your zeal to smear Christians. The nativity display is staying, the atheists simply want equal access to public property.

Seems to me that’s a fine solution actually, as no party is offended by exclusion and all parties get to use the public property that they all pay for. Telling others that they cannot use property that they contribute to the costs of, well, that’s totalitarian to the core. Let all come in, and let all ideas be discussed in the common weal and let the market of ideas determine the outcome, as it should be.

I‘ve asked them why they think it’s OK to constantly barrage us believers with rhetoric that God doesn’t exist, etc. After all, us believers don’t barrage the non-believers with rhetoric that God does exist. To get the atheists to shut up, I’ve told them that if they can explain their existence here on Earth, I’ll listen to them. In other words, I‘ve asked that they explain if they are so certain God doesn’t exist, how exactly did they came to be here (did they just appear?, does their parents have the ability to create a body and breath life into it?, did aliens drop them off on this planet?). Since they are ever so certain God doesn’t exist, then they must know for certain what the intelligence is behind life here – or do they think everything is random (can you imagine what a horror it would be to think that?). To date, no one has explained this secret.

      That’s well put.

In fact though, they do have a point, legally. They’re not trying to remove the image(s), which I’ve *always* disagreed with, they’re just claiming “equal time”. Given as they’re taxpayers like the rest of us, that’s not unreasonable.

I’m not against “diversity” believe it or not, I just don’t want my beliefs and values excluded, which has been the trend since at least the early 1990′s. Now that nativity scenes are showing back up on statehouse laws, I’m satisfied in things going back towards traditional values. That said, others have the same right to display their beliefs, if I have the right to do so.

Interesting tactic, they‘re wising up that the public doesn’t, by and large, like them for trying to exclude the culture of the majority.

How about no signs and displays on public property. Keep them on private property. I’m no fan of organized religion but I think having that sign up is dumb too. People have a right to believe what they want and to teach their kids that. Kids grow up and they’ll go one way or the other on their own one day.

Ironically, this country is finally becoming what it has always claimed to be in terms of equality. A christian display on public property in no longer proper in a culturally equal society. It belongs in your yard or the church yard.

Not “religion”, rather, “belief systems”. There are belief systems outside of the realm of religion, in fact philosophy is a direct reflection of man’s attempt to construct sound moral frameworks.

Look, if we get to sit in the public square and display our beliefs, then that’s a great thing. We don’t have the right to suddenly start excluding other citizens from displaying their beliefs. That‘s what they’ve been trying to do to us for decades, and two wrongs do not make a right.

Many times they must file a permit, pay a fee and at this late date, it probably be a waste of their time and effort and the official is just saving them the money. Many times it takes more than a few days to get an approval. Had they started maybe two weeks ago, the official may have allowed the signage regardless how insulting it would be to many. This group actually mailed their sign to another city for the city mayor to put it up, but they couldn’t as the mayor would be breaking the Constitution as NO government official can hang up the signage; only private citizens can seek approval. No, it’s not a religion, it does not appeal to a supernatural authority or even acknowledge a realm where the supernatural is possible. Now, it is a faith of sorts to a lot (not all) of atheists, for exactly the reasons you outline. But a religion, no, not hardly. That said, they (a lot of them) certainly act like the Inquisition of fable when confronting anybody who dare not see the world as they do. Shameful way to act for people who supposedly wish to advocate reason and logic instead of religion, but hey, end of the day, we’re all human.

The most honest of atheists/agnostics say “I have neither proof for nor proof against a supernatural deity, thus I have to take the default position of disbelief until proof is offered”. That’s very reasonable, as it means they have an honest mind and open outlook, even if they don’t have the capacity for faith, their mind can be changed at a later date if they adopt that capacity. The Crusading Atheists however, turn me off in the same way that Christian Calvanists do.

Don‘t presume to tell people that they don’t have the right to express their views in civil society and on land that they contribute towards.

while obama’s atheists try to divert our attention, here’s a horrific gem from the IL REVIEW:

ISLAMIC WORLD TELLS CLINTON: DFEMATION OF ISLAM MUST BE CRIMINALLY LIABLE IN AMERICA.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton welcomes Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu to Washington this week. As part of the visit, working teams from the Department of State (DoS) and the OIC are going to discuss implementation mechanisms that could impose limits on freedom of speech and expression.

The OIC’s purpose, as stated explicitly in its April 2011 4th Annual Report on Islamophobia, is to criminalize “incitement to hatred and violence on religious grounds.” Incitement is to be defined by applying the “test of consequences” to speech. Under this twisted perversion of falsely “yelling ‘fire’ in a crowded theater,” it doesn’t matter what someone actually says — or even whether it is true or not; if someone else commits violence and says it’s because of something that person said, the speaker will be held criminally liable

“Hardens the heart”. Isn’t that a phrase of biblical origin from where G-d hardens Pharaoh’s heart? I thought celebrating reason meant focusing exclusively on the mind. Maybe next they’ll tell us religion poisons the soul (the one they don’t believe exists).

We will know the Atheists are serious about preventing religion in the world when they post the following sign outside Mosque in Iran, Egypt, Lybia or even in America.

“At this season of the Winter Solstice, let reason prevail. Mohammed is a fraud, Islam is a superstition, there are no prophets, no angels, no martyrs, no paradise, no good, no evil, no Islam. There is only our natural world. Islam is but myth and superstition that creates hate and violence. hardens hearts and enslaves minds and persons.”

Until then Atheists are just cowards and pick on Christianity because Christianity does not threaten them with violence.

Most of our current science is not proven fact but composed of theory (faith). Science is in itself a religion, a religion in search of a god. The principle that underlies everything.

I fully agree. That’s precisely why atheism should refrain from attacking other religions. Their beliefs, despite what some of them may believe, aren’t any more provable than those of anyone else and are equally impossible to disprove. These atheists believe they can prove reason to be the only truth but in reality that belief is as unprovable as any belief in G-d.

Um, Hidden, dude, scietific theory is not “faith”. It is a long string of empirical data that supports a given hypotheis, to the point that the data overwhelmingly demonstrates the hypothesis as correct.

Faith is belief without fact, and there’s nothing wrong with that, you’re not supposed actually have met God in real life and have proof, you have to rely on faith. But that doesn’t mean every endevor is based on faith, sorry, you’re wrong.

“Um, Hidden, dude, scietific theory is not “faith”. It is a long string of empirical data that supports a given hypotheis, to the point that the data overwhelmingly demonstrates the hypothesis as correct.”

Presuming that you mean ‘scientific’ and ‘hypothesis’, are you referring to well known and accepted data such as the inability of matter to exceed the speed of light? Perhaps the accepted fact that expansion of the universe is slowing? Those are just anecdotal examples, of course, of ‘facts’ that a year or so ago you would have stated affirmatively, but can no longer can. It seems that science may not be a place where too much faith ought to be invested. At any rate, if the previous examples of data-based mis-faiths are not convincing, I’ll happily provide others. You are apparently confused regarding the distinction between ‘theory’ and truth.

So when the majority of elected officials, including the President, and/or the majority of Americans claim to be atheists, maybe the whole “We’re being attacked” claim will hold some water. Until then it’s nothing more than Everest being picked at by a dental pick.
