Atheists Unveil ‘Blasphemous’ Nativity at Wis. Capitol: Darwin, Einstein, & an African Baby

A mock nativity scene created from the Freedom From Religion Foundation (Image Credit: WXOW.com)
Earlier this week, the Blaze reported about the “slightly blasphemous” nativity scene that the Freedom From Religion Foundation has been planning to put in the Wisconsin state capitol. The atheist group was so frustrated over the presence of a Christian nativity, that its leaders decided to seek out a permit to make public what the group’s co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor calls an “irreverent tweak on the nativity scene.”
On Wednesday, the FFRF made good on its promise to counter the Christian depiction assembled by Wisconsin Family Action (WFA), a conservative organization in the region. In the atheist version of the nativity, Thomas Jefferson, Charles Darwin and Albert Einstein are the three wise men. The baby, an African girl, is intended to represent the birthplace of mankind. The beloved angels are an astronaut and the Statue of Liberty.

According to FFRF, the nativity spoof wouldn‘t have been created if the capitol’s rotunda didn’t already have other religious displays. But because the Christian message was represented, Gaylor’s group demanded that theirs be viewed too.
“But, since it is a public forum, it didn’t look like legally we could do anything, so, we were left with putting up our own, natural nativity display,” Gaylor explained. ”We think that the rotunda is getting too littered, we don’t think that it should be a public forum for religion at the seat of government.”
Andrew Seidel, who is also with the FFRF, explained the mock nativity, saying, “Thomas Jefferson, one of our characters (in the display), said that ridicule is the only weapon that can be used against unintelligible principles. He continued, claiming that his group isn’t competing with WFA. “Our beliefs, we think, are just as important and we want to get them out there and represent the other side of the story,” he said.
WFA has no problem with the presence of the display and says that it welcomes all perspectives. This incident follows a very public battle between the foundation and the Wisconsin state government after Gov. Walker began referring to the state’s official holiday spruce as a Christmas tree this year.

Why don’t you pick a day that is holy or spiritual to you and make an occassion out of it. Who says you can’t? But you choose to show hate and stomp all over other sybolism of faith. That shows how really childish your group is and will never be a serious organization. I believe this could be considered a hate crime.

Notice…none of them have a “slightly blasphemous” menorah to ever offer? This is nothing but their expression of their hatred for christianity while they abuse the constitution as a shield. Again I’ll ask it…will any of these “constitutionalist” atheists be staying at work on December 25th? Will they be demanding the day be removed from the national holiday calendar? Will they be demanding that any Federal, State and Local agencies scheduled to take the day off remain at work? Clearly…the day is Christmas Day..a Christian holiday and the state is acknowledging it. Where is their ire for the nation taking the day off? No..this is nothing but christian hating and very poorly veiled christian hating.

Atheism is a belief system. A philosophy. These demonstrations, now all across the country, and every year at Christmas time, are antagonistic and controversial with full intent and malice aforethought. Designed to outrage Christians and distract their minds from the love and charity the warmth of the thought of Jesus Christ brings to the hearts of Christians and faithful every where to focus on hatred and denial.

Posted on December 16, 2011 at 3:44pmI love this time of year! I love the controversy. It means that Christians are finally standing up for what we believe in and that the athiests are intimidated by it. Did you see the article where high school boys in a particular school are “tebowing”? Even kids are standing up for their rights, kneeling in the hallways for prayer. I think all Christians should do some ‘Tebowing”. Kneel and pray while shopping at Wal-Mart. Make the sign of the cross everytime you shoot up a little prayer in public. Join hands and say grace in restaurants. Stop and stand still when you pray in public and make the sign of the cross on your forehead with your thumb when you finish. Pray often in public, silently or out loud, but pray so people know what you’re doing. We can be silent witnesses by letting everyone around us know that we are Christians and that we rely on God’s grace, wisdom, and will, to get us through the day. How can they stop us from witnessing when all we’re doing is praying? Let the world know that we are many and we are serious about our faith. Wow! What an impact we could have……peaceful and silent.

Of course, it’s very clear these people are either ashamed to confess they do indeed believe in Lord God and Savior, but they hate Him. Atheism by definition is a religion:. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.

Traditional Christian displays don’t ridicule atheists or any other non-christian groups. Again, can’t say the same about those atheist displays. You want to display your beliefs..its fine with me. I agree that Christians shouldn’t have special rights over non-Christians but nobody is shoving anything down your throat the last I checked. Maybe they did in the distant past, but never in my lifetime has anyone forced me to do anything remotely religious, whether in public school or even in church.
Of course, last time I checked, nobody is forcing you or anyone else to go to these public Christmas displays or to put up a Christmas tree or to take December 25th as a holiday, or to exchange gifts or anything like that. Nobody is stopping these atheists from putting up their display of non-religious propaganda as far as I know either. They have equal rights as much as the Christians. You can go along your merry way and never even acknowledge any of these things, religious and non-religious if you so chose.
Just because somebody refers to an ornately decorated conifer as a “Christmas tree” doesn‘t mean it can’t be something completely different to you. You could call it the “Ornate Conifer of Winter Solstice” if you chose, or even “A stupid myth tree.” Sure you might offend some people, but they have just as much right and privilege to be offended as you do. Its like when someone calls their father “Dad” instead of “Bob”. The context is different for that person so no offense should be taken.

Atheist displays really don’t affect my life or my beliefs. I don’t push my beliefs down their throats. I don’t discuss my belief in God with them unless they ask me to and then only if it can be a civil respectful conversation. The only thing I object to is that most atheists can’t seem to peacefully co-exist with those who don’t agree with them. In general, atheists are always demanding people respect their viewpoints but don’t give the same consideration to others. Attacks, ridicule and unfair demands on either side don’t encourage an atmosphere of equality or peaceful tolerance. All it does is create more animosity.

Do you believe in God? “I’m not an atheist. I don’t think I can call myself a pantheist. The problem involved is too vast for our limited minds. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn’t know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God. We see the universe marvelously arranged and obeying certain laws but only dimly understand these laws.”
Is this Spinoza’s God? “I am fascinated by Spinoza’s pantheism, but I admire even more his contribution to modern thought because he is the first philosopher to deal with the soul and body as one, and not two separate things.”

Rom 1:19-20 “Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them……For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”
God’s eternal power and Godhead has been made know to all of mankind as well as unto all Atheists/Evolutionist/Humanist. They are without excuse!
Eccl.3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.” NKJV
God put eternity into the hearts of men and they cannot get it out. This is why all men will worship something, whether it be the true and living God or some other creature, heavenly object, graven images or man himself as the Atheists/Evolutionists/Humanists do.

Posted on December 16, 2011 at 8:26amI would have more respect for these atheists if they had displayed a scene of what constitutes their own beliefs rather than simply denigrating the Nativity. Oh wait, I guess they just did display their beliefs. They are Anti-Christ. They apparently have no core beliefs or redeeming values they can share with the world other than to insult Christ and Christians in general.

Posted on December 16, 2011 at 8:42amCould not have said it better myself. These particular atheists are acting just like spoiled children: they can’t get their way, so they resort to needling those they disagree with (REAL mature… NOT!). Mark my words, though, when it comes time for them to account for their actions on this earth, they will rue the day they decided to turn their backs on God Almighty.

Posted on December 16, 2011 at 8:51amThey are NOT a religion and funny, they only attack Jews and Christians? Are they too scared to MOCK the Muslims OR ARE they Muslims? This would be treated as a HATE crime for sure, if the display was mocking and insulting Muslims.. guaranteed!!!

Posted on December 16, 2011 at 8:18amWhat idiots…. So who’s going to call the Funny Farm and complain about this ridiculous grade-school attempt at ‘getting their ideas’ out and about? Looks like FFRF doesn’t make enough money to commission their own nativity scene, so they threw together some paper dolls, a latex brown colored baby-doll and a sign that reads “Thou shalt not steal” with a fan of pamphlets in front. I assume those pamphlets will still be there when they take down their abomination, due to the “stealing” sign. The people of Wisconsin need to make paper-doll clown suits, and go and dress up their blasphemy scene a bit. A Ronald McDonald statue would complete the picture, I think.
