Attack on Charles Raises Questions About UK Security

LONDON (AP) — British officials defended the country’s security establishment Friday after rampaging student protesters attacked a car carrying the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

The chief of the Metropolitan Police pledged to launch a full and detailed investigation into the incident, which saw protesters set upon the heir to the throne‘s Rolls Royce as it drove through London’s busy West End Thursday night. A group of up to 20 protesters, some chanting “off with their heads!” smashed a rear window and splashed white paint on the vehicle. Charles and Camilla were visibly shaken, but unharmed.

The security breach is particularly embarrassing for police and the Royal household in the run-up to Prince William’s 2011 wedding, raising questions over whether or not security protocols need to be reviewed.

Prime Minister David Cameron said police must learn from the lapse in security but not be blamed for it, insisting that protesters should feel “the full force of the law.”

“Let’s be very clear about where responsibility lies,” Cameron, speaking in Downing Street. “Responsibility for smashing property, or violence, lies with the people who perpetrate that violence and I want to see them arrested and punished in the correct way.”

The premier also shrugged off claims that violence was limited to a small minority of protesters, saying “there were quite a number of people who clearly were there wanting to pursue violence and destroy property.”

Metropolitan Police Chief Paul Stephenson commended officers for their bravery and said the nearly 3,000-strong contingent of officers out to deal with Thursday’s protests showed commendable restraint in dealing with the “dreadful” actions of “thugs.”

Buckingham Palace said it does not comment on security procedures.

    I seriously question this situation. 1. We have thousands of protestors at their gates because these people are destroying their future. 2. All the sudden the filthy rich prince drives out in his million dollar car. 3. The kids see this and attack the car it’s a protest and not a very friendly one. 4. It’s a setup to make them the wealthy look like the victims and draw support for the oh so poor rich people. I say TOTAL SETUP

    Honestly, I get so sick of the “royals” I could barf. Look what these inbred, pea brained people cost England to pay for their excesses. This whole royalty garbage must finally be turning off the young people who have just heard what the cost of the next royal wedding is expected to be. How many kids could be educated if William and Kate just went before a civil justice, said their vows, and threw a good dance and beer party afterward, rather than the planned extravaganza?

    Charles and Camilla hve it coming! Charles is promoting Islam, and anti-Christian. Also – this tuition rise guarantees that lower-class, working-class, and middle class English kids will NEVER have chance to go to University, and improve their lives. Meanwhile – foriegn immigrants are being given EVERYTHING in England. The English are shut out – the foriegn Muslims are beging handed EVERYTHING – including mansions.

    Too bad the mob did not finish off the traitorous scum.

    I am tired of the press reporting that this came from the ending of the “free” college tuition in the UK in 1997. It was never free tuition. The British taxpayers paid the bill for these brats and that was redistributed. At least American kids pay their own way through college or their parents pay it.

Union bosses will have their thugs do their bidding for them while they stay home all comfy and warm, same with Black Panther bosses, they too will be hiding while they encourage their goons to go out and cause chaos.     It seems to me that the best way to deal with this threat is to let Obama handle the riots and attacks and for us to stay calm; then, every time that there is an election, vote and elect the people that support our view. In the meantime work and save. If things get really extreme, massive, peaceful demonstrations ( 8-28 style )in the streets are another good way to show where we stand.

    It just seems so fake to me. Sorry. The Royals are the wealthiest family in human history and do not expose themselves to the lower classes in this manner. Unless the royals still practice patricide. Perhaps the next in line is not intended for the throne. Do they still off their own young, parents, siblings, etc. for the throne. They insist that those “dark days” are in the past.

    Still, they are a couple of criminal elites promenading their depraved and stolen lifestyle in front of the rioting commies they help spawn in effort to perpetuate their madness.

    Prince my butt. Princess Charles, more like. A real King can move among his people freely. This one displays cowardice in front of the whole of Great Britain. He should have stopped the car, gotten out and demanded, in the name of the King and Almighty God, that they cease disturbing his land. Would you allow your son to be led into battle under his banner?

    It just seems contrived.

    I‘m no scholar on the English economy or how it’s structured, but usually when economies pile inequity or unreasonable costs onto a section of the populace, it is usually the section least able to defend itself against that behavior. It looks like that is happening here, and while I don’t believe in choosing violence, I do believe that this has to do with a lot more than just tuition. This feels more like the straw that broke the camels back.

    this is another bubble where you had a market falsely propped up by the gov. Just like the real estate bubble. I say the students organize and them march into the College Board room and start making demands. Then they will have real power. This is misdirected.

    Where is the respect for the Royalty?!?!?! What is wrong with these people…

    How stupid can they be to think that violence is going to get them anything, they need to all go home, go to the local pubs and coffee houses and sit down, make a list of things they “get” from their govt and says “okay, I will sacrifice this, this and this…. so that the govt can keep my education costs down, because that is my future and I want my education…”

    People need to be rational and they all need to be… it would help if the UK govt did just that, asked the people to do that… perhaps hold an Austarity public vote, put on a ballot 10-15 things that people will vote to cut off to save educational and other key things, let the people decide what they are willing to tighten their belts on and then when cuts are made, the govt is able to say to them, we are cutting what YOU want us to, to get through this tough time…

    Why would Prince Charles be in a car driving through the riot areas? Did he do this intentionally? It seems to me he could have gotten to his party by helicopter or one of the underground tunnels. “Off with their heads” was a suitable chant for this charade!

      I agree. Obama wants this to happen so he can call out the military and the National Guard and have every city in the United States covered with police. They started with Wal-Mart, asking neighbors to spy on neighbors, just a “nudge” as Glenn Beck says. We The People have to “stay calm”. Make this a war of the minds, not a physical war.       Actually, that is what I think the Progressives want. They are in a desperate mode now. They lost in Nov. and now they see their once in a life time opportunity being lost. If we riot, which is a good case once budget cuts begin, we could see this administration take complete control which is their desire.
      You should see article at http://www.blackquillandink.com today. There are also videos depicting what could happen in America. There is also an old blog post there, “Obama Suspends Civil Liberties” which describes events that might lead to such an action. We should be prepared and educate friends etc. It will be the progressives that take this action so we need to be ready.

      I hope it doesnt get that bad. I dont want to see a Reign of Terror happen over here. I just dont think that things are so bad in America that if we were to have (another) revolution that we‘d have to run around killing the wealthy and giving free Wii’s to all the poor people.

      Survival 101- No. it will be far worse here. Either we fight these guys with everything we have, or welcome to the National Socialist States of America, dear Leader, Obama. Most of us have not been in love with “free stuff”, we are the ones they forced to provide it!
      I think it finally occured to Glenn yesterday just how close they are to completing their take over. The rest happens quickly, very quickly. In Germany, 1933, Hitler became Chancellor in late January, I think it was the 30th, by the end of Feburary they had begun rounding up the communists.

      This is about more than the rise in tuition. This is the unions showing Parliament who’s in charge and using students to do so. Just like the unions here, when they don‘t need them they will throw them out like yesterday’s garbage. The membership needs to wake up! You want more money in your paycheck, no union dues would do that. Negotiating with your own company (the union bosses think you are too stupid to do that) would probably benefit each worker more than union negotiation. We need to bring manufacturing back to the US but unions keep the cost of goods too high to compete. Wouldn’t a choice of which manufacturing company you could work for be nice? They have taken away your right to choose. WAKE UP!!

      U R SO RIGHT Granny! I had a good-paying job with paid vacations, insurance, 401k, bonuses, etc. The company unionized and I lost my 401k, took a pay cut, got inferior insurance, vacations and bonuses were cut back in order to compete in the market, and was finally laid-off when the company decided to get out of the union. Nice. Now I have virtually nothing. Thanks Union!
