Attempt to Catch a Shark During Live Broadcast on Australian TV Takes Unexpected Turn

Nowadays it’s pretty easy for embarrassing blunders and funny videos to catapult themselves to the forefront of news blogs, Facebook feeds, and twitter posts almost instantaneously.
You remember Brian Collins and the South Carolina contestant for Miss Teen 2007, right? Their tongue-twisted remarks were unfortunately caught on camera and became the butt of jokes for everyone from journalists to high school football teams.
And today a news team in Australia may have earned a spot in the group when a serious story about a shark living in a popular Gold Coast swimming spot ended with the reporter reeling in a live duck.
Take a look at the segment that, somewhat surprisingly (maybe?) doesn’t seem to bother the laid-back news team.

Posted on July 15, 2011 at 7:52pmUsed to fish for sharks in the Black Sea! I found out from the local fishermen that if you grab the shark by the tail (and DON’T LET GO), it cannot reach back to bite you! They cannot bite their own tail! Just don‘t hold it too close and don’t take your eyes off them! But to wrestle one from a kayak, right down in the water–that is COURAGE, FOOLHARDY COURAGE! Wow! What a catch! I wonder who got tired first! And, once the shark was ‘boated’ on the kayak, what do you do next? Paddle to shore, or beg for a tow? And, how do you negotiate the surf with the shark? If he gets loose, is he so happy to be free that he (/she) swims away, or does it turn and try and take a nick out of it’s tormentor?

Posted on July 15, 2011 at 9:09amI agree, it would be great to see news presented with real people instead of the stiff shirts and skirts. The quip about Peking Duck was great. News can be serious but also fun and thes people seem to have it right.

Posted on July 15, 2011 at 7:33amSo, why didn’t the news about the USA Kayak- er make the news over here??? Or did it, and I missed it? That was some cool, I thought.
Been close enough scuba diving to reach out and touch a shark that swam in front of me once. Nearly swallowed my mouth gear over that incident.
