Zero, Zip, Zilch: New Jobs Report Shows No Net Jobs Added in August

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — Employers stopped adding jobs in August, an alarming setback for an economy that has struggled to grow and might be at risk of another recession.

It was the weakest jobs report since September 2010. The unemployment rate remained at 9.1 percent.

CNBC reports:

It was the first time since World War II that the economy had a net zero jobs created for a month.

Economists had been expecting the report to show a net of 75,000 jobs created, an unusually low number considering the US is technically more than two years removed from the end of the last crisis.

Stock futures plunged on the news. In the 15 minutes after the report was released, Dow futures fell 94 points, from 11,401 to 11,318.

A strike by 45,000 Verizon workers lowered the job totals. Those workers are now back on the job.

The weakness in employment was underscored by revisions to the jobs data for June and July. Collectively, those figures were lowered to show 57,000 fewer jobs added. The downward revisions were all in government jobs.

The average work week also declined and hourly earnings fell by 3 cents to $23.09.

The report may dampen expectations for the economy to pick up in the second half of the year. With hiring stagnant and wages declining, consumers won’t see much gain in incomes. That will limit their ability to spend, which undercuts economic growth. Consumer spending accounts for about 70 percent of the economy.

The economy needs to add roughly 250,000 jobs a month to rapidly bring down the unemployment rate, which has been above 9 percent in all but two months since May 2009.

In August, the private sector added 17,000 jobs, the fewest since February 2010. That compares with 156,000 in July and 75,000 in June.

Hiring fell across many different sectors. Manufacturers cut 3,000 jobs, its first decline since October 2010. Construction companies, retailers, and transportation firms also cut workers.

The health care industry added 30,000 jobs last month.

Weak growth, a downgrade of long-term U.S. debt in early August and a sell-off on Wall Street likely kept some businesses from hiring.

The economy expanded at an annual pace of only 0.7 percent in the first six months of the year. That was the slowest six months of growth since the recession officially ended in June 2009.

Most economists forecast that growth may improve to about a 2 percent annual rate in the July-September quarter. But that’s not fast enough to generate many jobs.

The economy’s weakness was underscored Thursday by the Obama administration, which estimated that unemployment will average about 9 percent next year, when President Barack Obama will run for re-election. The rate was 7.8 percent when Obama took office.

The White House Office of Management and Budget projects overall growth of only 1.7 percent this year.

Next week, Obama will deliver a rare address to a joint session of Congress to introduce a plan for creating jobs and boosting economic growth.

Obama HAS BEEN A SUCCESS! YOU ASK WHY? Because everything he and his Anti-American, Socialist, Progressives did what they wanted to do to our country….TAKE IT DOWN AS FAST AS POSSIBLE and those who voted for this man simply on a promise of the one word “CHANGE” helped him and his cronies succeed in doing so. He has another year to do his heap do even more damage and mark my words, HE WILL DO IT! This IS the plan folks. Before he was elected, people were told about his leanings toward Socialism. We saw and heard the teachings of his pastor and church he attended for 20+ years in which they cursed America and Americans, but for the sake of “CHANGE” informed voters put him in office anyway. With today’s computer age, there is no reason NOT to be informed this time around! Get the RINOS and Socialists out of power……you see what they are doing with it and it’s not to help YOU. Look at what they’ve done and are doing, NOT what they say.

Exactly ZeroObama is doing just enough to slow let the U.S.A. bleed out this country. ZerObama is a diehard progressive he believes what he is doing is 100% correct in the public eye but the truth is in his own mind and his cronie supporters they all know the end game is to destroy the U.S.A and fundamentally change it to their big government federal family utopia where they tell all of us exactly how to live.A world were everybody is equal they say. ZerObama will say he did all the correct things to fix this country but it is the fault of the Conservatives and the Tea Party that stopped his ideas from working and that they need to be publicly harassed (class warfare) into being silenced. Oh wait that it already happening and the CBC statements of “the Tea Party want to see black people hanging from trees” is just the latest attempts to start true hand to hand combat in ours neighborhoods in the class warfare game. Your going to start seeing more young black male and females attacking white people. Oh i forgot it has already started in Philly with the flash mobs. Wake the hell up people because it is only going to get worse. Prepare yourselves for everything and most of all to get ZerObama out of the White House.

Right on !!!! I recognize this community organizer as a snake oil salesman the first time I ever heard him selling everyone in “CNANGE”. Well, people did not recoginze the change he was selling was a bill of goods. Just goes to show you people do not do their homework. They choose to listen to the state-controlled Media such as CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, PBS. I just had a liberal peer walked out the door earlier this week at work. Instead of placing the blame where it should go, he blames the company. Heavy regulations, ObamaCare, Quantitiative easing, debt, downgrade of America , bypassing congress, have taken their toll. Only when the American population wakes up and open ther eyes to see that this is a plan of Action to destroy the U.S. will the tide turn. With the marxist and socialist controlling the media and the education system, this will truely take divine intervention.

Grace, you’ve got it right. After wading through a lot of frustrated people’s comments, I’m glad I found someone else who understands what Obama is up to. He is not dense and those who say he “just don’t get it” are disgustingly wrong. He has us on the path to destruction that he and his handlers outlined and were able to foist upon the gullible and uninformed in this once great nation. I hope that all who read these posts are also talking to their contacts via other media. God forbid that we don’t get this pretender out of office not later than 2012 — preferrably sooner! If he had any concern for the U.S., he would resign.

PRECISELY!!! So many people miss calling it for what it is! Obama’s mission is to END IN IT. He was put in place for ONE REASON and one reason ONLY. Here it is: Obamas mission is to finish off the dollar. The end game is being played out. All will be forced into the new currency, the new economy, the new enslavement. This is the end game. One world currency, with biometric chipping of all of your data, in a one-world, computer controlled slavery existence. Resistance is necessary and somewhat futile, but there you have it: The Obama mission, boiled-down to a few sentences. I ask you the question asked in the bible: “Who is like the beast? Who can make war against the beast?” As we have read, ‘He forces ALL,small and great, free and bond, rich and poor, to receive a mark [biometric chip, I can now see], on their right hand or on their forehead, so that NO MAN may buy or sell, except he who has the mark, the biometric chip that allows you to particpate in the new world order. And what if you don’t want to participate and you want to go back to the non electronic monitoring standard? See the history on the Nazi‘s final solution and apply it those who will probably be called ’Non-Chippers’. There you have it, my little droogies, the Obama mission. So far, on course for success!!!

It was very disturbing watching this unfold when Obama came on the scene. You could see that he was to be the one to get the Dem nomination. You could hear in his campaigning the underlying dislike of this country. His not-so-subtle (to me) animosity towards whites, our countrys heritage, his affiliation with racist Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayars, was very telling of who this man was.

He and Eric Holder have emboldened young blacks who were already poisoned with hatred towards whites and the US to now act out their hatred with the flash mobs we see. All this was in the plan. I cannot even imagine another 4 years with this America-hater and his equally America-hating wife in the WH. They must lay in bed at night laughing at the dumb, guilt-ridden whites who put them in the WH. They are certainly enjoying watching us wring our hands at what might happen next.

Obama is a traitor, people. Wake the heck up and get involved to defeat this evil before it’s too late. Get involved with your local tea party group. It‘s one of the only places where you’ll hear the truth.
Remember that Obama said… “fundamental transformation of America”, and think for a moment of what that means.

I expect them to get the heck out of the way for those of us who do!

As we continue to lose jobs (wait for the revisions next month), they continue to pile on the regulations, the “Justice” Dept blocks a merger that AT&T said would have brought 2000 jobs back to the US, and they raid one of the very few successful manufacturers still in this country.

That almost sounds like an Obama speech. How do you expect 1/3 of the Government (The House) to get any kind of bills passed to help the economy when Obama won‘t sign one and Reid won’t even vote on a budget much less any kind of regulatory reform that the Democrats passed before they were elected? The only way this economy will get moving again is after 2012 when Conservatives control the White House and Senate along with the House.
