August Unemployment Rate Stays at 9.1%

WASHINGTON (AP) — Employers added 103,000 jobs in September, a modest burst of hiring after a sluggish summer.
Still, job growth remains too weak to lower the unemployment rate, which stayed at 9.1 percent for the third straight month.
The Labor Department also revised the previous two months to show that companies hired at a better pace than first estimated.
Nearly half of the gains last month occurred because 45,000 striking Verizon workers returned to their jobs.
Employers have added an average of only 72,000 jobs in the past five months. The economy must create twice as many just to keep up with population growth.
The jobs crisis has intensified a debate in Washington 13 months before President Barack Obama will run for re-election.

Posted on October 18, 2011 at 5:17amIf I were the US president, I would solve the unemployment problem …….by getting a list of all the millionaires and billionaires of the US and all over the world …then find a strategy to persuade them to open a business here that would hire a lot of Americans.
If the response is negative, I would ask why…then, I would ask them to give me suggestions what to do to convince them to do business here. Then I would convene a meeting of the top economists of the country to see if it is feasible to accommodate their suggestions. If it is not feasible, I would like my economists to counter-suggest until a “compromise” is reached.
THEN I WILL BE ON MY KNEES PRAYING FOR MORE ECONOMIC WISDOM IF THE STRATEGY DOESN’T WORK.

Posted on October 7, 2011 at 5:25pmYeah, it’s bad out there. Think about it, after subtracting the 45,000 Verizon workers who got back their jobs after a strike, you end up with 58,000 new jobs created. Now, stay with me here, if you then add one state to the fifty-seven that Obama visited while running for President back in ‘08, that makes fifty-eight. Divide those 58 into that 58,000 and we have a WHOPPING one thousand jobs added per state. I’ll bet that the increase in illegals last month coming across the southern border was more than that. BET YA!

Posted on October 7, 2011 at 2:13pmThink about this for a minute:
If 9.1% of working people are unemployed rather than 4.5% how much tax revenues is the federal government loosing? Add to that lost revenue the cost to send these folks unemployment checks, food stamps, medicaid and other social welfare. Add to that the fact that despite all of the help these poor folks are getting, they don’t have enough money to go on vacation, buy things, spend money. What is this high unemployment really costing America?
Now what about the people who are underemployed now. Making far less than they used to 4-5 years ago. Many of these people used to pay higher federal taxes and now may be paying little or no federal taxes. Many are now on welfare, medicaid,etc.. where they weren’t before. How much is this costing the federal government in lost tax revenue and added spending? These people are spending less as they live within their means now. How does this affect the economy?
Now for the evil rich people. Thanks to the stock market and other things, there are quite a few LESS millionaires now. This should make the liberals happy, right? But since they have historically paid so much more in taxes, that revenue is way down as well. They used to spend gobs of money because they had it. Now they spend gobs LESS.
This all trickles down, trickles up and trickles into every aspect of the economy. It’s simple. Create policy that allows for Private Sector job growth and revenues go up, up and up.

Posted on October 7, 2011 at 2:07pmI agree with Tifosa. As long as Obama can keep the unemployment rate below 25 percent he has done a great job. What more could we expect from him. Obviously any one else would be worse. I mean this is the first time a president has “inherited” a recession right? If it’s not, I’m having a hard time remembering another President who has been so inept, his term is almost over and things are far worse (by his own admission).

Report Post »The more people you have on the welfare roles, the more people on unemployment, the more people in dire straights and desperate, the more voters you will have right? That may be what you are counting on, but I predict this will back-fire on you. The shine has worn off and America is starting to see that you are an empty suit. When we finally throw your sorry ass out of our White House, we will have someone who is willing and ready to lead this country back to pre-obama greatness.

Posted on October 7, 2011 at 9:42amThe President said that they had created 1 million jobs this year. But notice that he never said how many jobs were lost this year. For the unemployment rate to remain unchanged then it is probably safe to say that at least 1 million jobs have been lost. So how would he explain that?

Posted on October 7, 2011 at 9:11amWow, the spin machine is out in full force. Economists say the economic outlook is a little better than they thought. So we created only 60,000 jobs last month (I will not count the striking workers as new jobs created) when we need nearly 200,000 new jobs a month to get us back on track. The article also stated the economy created on average 72,000 a month for the past five months. So to me there has been is a decline of 12,000 in job creation compared to the 5 month average. News to the economists who spread this manipulated information: No matter how you spin the numbers – the economy sucks and there are no jobs!

Posted on October 7, 2011 at 9:05amThe Labor Department needs to tell the true unemployment rate instead of adjusting it to not make Obama look as bad as he actually is.
Real unemployment rate is 16.6%. The Labor Department‘s statistics don’t include the underemployed and those who have stopped looking for work.

Posted on October 7, 2011 at 8:48amDoes it really matter what the rate is to those who factor into it, if they get 3 years of unemployment compensation, which is all the rage on the left at the moment?
If a guy had a decent cushion, he could almost be so lucky as to get laid off and take a 3 year sabbatical.
The next step I would bet after 3 or 4 years, is permanent unemployment compensation like they have (or had) in the UK.
