Awkward: Angry Sledder Confronts Reporter on Live TV

Snowstorms are not too common in Seattle, as was evident when much of the city shutdown and video of drivers struggling with the conditions went viral following the large snowstorm that hit the Puget Sound region earlier this week. While some struggled with the weather, others were thrilled to finally enjoy sledding on the city’s notoriously steep hills.
When KING 5 reporter Meg Coyle was conducting a live feed warning residents about the icy conditions at Queen Anne Hill, she was confronted by a disgruntled sledder who called the reporter a “complete killjoy,” blaming her for a sledding clampdown on the hill:
The angry tuber explained her resentment of Coyle in an interview on 97.3 KIRO FM’s Dori Monson Show:
“Nicole, the vocal tuber, singled out Coyle’s reporting about the dangers of sledding and what she claimed was an overemphasis on the illegal activity.
‘The crux of her reporting continuously was the dangers of sledding down Queen Anne Hill and that she was appalled that the police kept driving by and couldn’t believe the police were doing nothing to ruin this horribly dangerous sledding situation,’ complained Nicole.”
Coyle told the station that she was just doing her job and sarcastically responded to the tuber’s heated words “I didn’t realize I was the boss of Seattle Police but evidently I was promoted.”

Posted on January 22, 2012 at 7:18amI grew up in a town that would close this one tiny section of paved road anytime there was more than a few inches of snow (couple times a month at least). The police would come and put barricades on it, just so is kids could sled. It was a great family event – a few of life’s greatest memories were made on that hill – as a family. The road was on the edge of town and not a critical road – even for the few folks who lived on either side of the section that was closed.
But no!!!! The progressives placed the fear of lawsuits and deadly repercussions into the minds of our city. The road hasn’t been closed in decades now, and the kids have nowhere to sled.
I’m not that old, but I can remember back when people kept their noses out of other people’s business, and allowed other people to LIVE life. I am SO glad I’m not a kid growing up in this bubble-wrap fantasy land of progressivism!!

Posted on January 22, 2012 at 9:16amUmm…I’m all for having fun..
But am I missing something to this story.?
(in the video) Are the roads closed and the vehicles I see diving through the intersection, at the bottom of that hill, are they doing so illegally ?
Or are the kids taking their own lives in their hands and playing chicken with two-ton metal moving objects ?
Let me put this another way…Since they (media) is doing a story on the hazards of “kids playing on a busy street” and the fact I saw “in the video” a car zooming through the intersection, from a side street at a good clip. I’m going to assume that the kids are on a active road. And are not only putting their life in peril ,they are dooming some pore guy who is trying drive on bad roads…AND
1) Who possibly is not used to (road condition) her/himself…. (it’s a rarity)
Report Post »2) Who is not looking for (kids sledding on roads)..( it’s a rarity )
3)Who is going to experience all the hell ,that comes with running over a kid and be charged with hitting a pedestrian ,charged with manslaughter , or at the very least ,will be sued from one of the
(no-fear / kill-joy) kids Parents.

I don’t care much for the left stream medial, however like a monkey with a typewritten, once in a while they make sense. Wasn’t that crass traffic at the bottom of the hill even as the “tubber” was whining about the reporter spoiling the day by expressing a legitimate concern.
If we are to be seen as the more logical aspect of the citizenry, then we must make sure our positions are grounded in reason and fact.

So are you saying they SHOULD shut down sledding on the hill?
I live in MN next to a huge sledding hill that has a busy street at the bottom. Never seen a moving car strike a sledder in 30 years I have lived here. HOWEVER, every year kids smash into PARKED cars at the bottom because they are too stupid to bail out of the sled. There is ONE lone tree off to the side of the hill, and every year at least 2 kids need an ambulance because they are too stupid to bail out of the sled before they hit the lonely solitary tree.
Every year there are news broadcasts from the hill talking about the “dangers” of sledding. How long before there is a “study” conducted showing that kids who sled are 75 times more likely to suffer minor to severe injuries? THEN there will be a law that says sledders MUST wear head gear and pads. Then there might even be regulations of the kinds of sleds kids are allowed to use in order to insure even more safety. Just where does it stop? At what point does society stop with the ridiculous broadcasts, studies and laws and simply say “If you’re going to be stupid, you better be tough!”? I mean according to today’s “studies” and standards its a freakin miracle that anyone born prior to 1988 was able to survive past the age of 7.
I applaud sledding lady in vid.

The greatest thing about America is that you can walk up to anyone and tell them what you think of them, their beliefs and their behavior.

No ..I’m saying use some common sense.
We don’t live in the 60’s anymore .
A person isn’t responsible for their own actions TODAY…!
We live in a world that if “ I ” spill a cup of coffee on “myself” ,
I can sue the guy who gave it to me …For a million dollars.
If a guy goes to a bar and gets drunk and drives down a road and kill’s some kid sledding into the road. The parents can sue the drunk for killing their kid….The drunk driver isn’t responsible for his actions he can sue the bar, the bar tender should have known better to serve a drunk.. The kid isn’t responsible ..every one should know they sled down that hill into traffic.
Where does it stop..
Blame game U.S.A..
Tell me.. If you’re kids were doing this (TODAY)…
And one of them got hit by a vehicle …Would you tell your kid …
“That’s what happens when you go sledding into traffic ” …!
Or would you have asked your kid…If they got the license plate.
Its all fun and lollipops “TODAY.” until someone gets killed.
Report Post »Then here comes the lawyers .
AND THEN …THAT’S WHEN A LAWS IS MADE.
Every time common sense goes out the window and someone get hurt.
They make a law to protect the idiots against themselves OR THEIR KIDS..

to answer your question, yes I would tell my kid that’s what he gets for being stupid. If the driver of the vehicle drove off like it was a hit & run, then yes I would ask if anyone got the license plate. As far as laws not being made based on “studies” but only lawsuits… nope, laws are made from both. Some laws or regulations are even made based on assumptions.

Let mom and dad worry about that. Stop trying to control all of us with your terrorist tactics because yes, people are afraid of your cameras and your nosey reporters ruining their lives. I did alot of things that were stupid and dangerous when i was a kid, and got hurt doing some of them but my family never thought about suing anyone because I was stupid, when and where did the fact that you were being a dumbass get thrown out of the evidence in a court case. I guess that NASCAR drivers should sue NASCAR because they are forced to drive at unsafe speeds then we can have 70 MPH speed limits on racetracks. I know that is ridiculous but not anymore than some of the idiot rules we have now.
