AWOL Indiana Dem Compares Fleeing State to Serving in Afghanistan

Indiana State Representative Dave Cheetham (D) not only found a way to recently compare his caucus’s running away to Illinois to avoid a vote on an anti-union bill to soldiers serving in Afghanistan, but he also found a way to invoke the children:
National Review has a transcript:
CHEATHAM: The thing that sticks in my mind, I guess, more than anything else — and this is something that has happened. My wife teaches first grade. This past week, one of the kids in her class, a little first grader’s dad is getting sent to Afghanistan. And he was really sad. And she said, ‘Eell, you know, your dad is doing something really good. He’s going to a country where people there are trying to take away the freedoms of other people there, keep them from living a good life. So he’s leaving to do something good.’ And one of the little girls in class just on her own — and this has never been talked about in class, because my wife doesn’t do that — said, ‘It’s kind of like Mr. Cheatham, he left to make our schools better.’ And when I heard that, that gave me a reason —” (drowned out by applause.)
NR‘s Jim Geraghty carries the analogy to it’s (il)logical conclusion:
Oh, I see. Fleeing the state and refusing to show up for work as a state legislator is just like serving in the U.S. military in Afghanistan! And I guess that would mean Republican state legislators are the Taliban and al-Qaeda in this metaphor.

Posted on April 1, 2011 at 1:35pmMr. Cheetham left to maintain the status quo. In fact, given his wife is a teacher (assume public), he has a conflict of interest. First I can’t fathom a 1st grader making that statement, secondly Mr. Cheetham needs to clarify and state whether or not he accepts the analogy.
Elections have consequences. On the national level we learned it with Obamacare. Here in Indiana its time for the democrates to act like grownups and except the dictate (vote) of the people.

Be careful with the “all for one and one for all” the Beckerheads may think your a socialist or a commie with all this talk about collectivism.
It must really, suck being a tea ******, I mean the sitting around in your trailers all day waiting to receive your orders from Beck or the Koch brothers, knowing that you are traitors.

You realize that the Union’s response to being asked to pay more for health care as well as their pensions AND earn reduced wages was not “WISCONSIN MUST BURN” but “Yeah, okay”?
The unions agreed to ALL the budgeting issues, the ONLY thing they did not agree to was to have their right of collective bargaining removed. This is about Union busting and has always been about Union busting. Or why else do you think Walker suddenly dropped all the budgetary issues from the bill and only kept the part about removing their right to bargain?

Posted on April 1, 2011 at 4:14pm2encinom, let me explain something, i am a small business owner { non union } only 7 empolyees, with all their families, around 25 .the empolyees all make 10 dollars an hour, some months,my wife and i don’t even get paid,we can’t pay our bills, but the employees get paid no matter what, we have mortgaged our home business, sold land cattle, just to pay for the outrageous insurance premiums and taxes, unemployment insurance, not including maintenance of equipment ,gas, and vehicle insurance, for just one month,we have even paid for their rent ,bills ,food, and even funerals of family members, because they have been loyal for years, they have even waited to be paid, but they knew we would make up to them so they work without one time gripping about anything,so now that work has come to a halt they must decide by june,{ because that is when all my savings run out } if they want to take a pay cut or leave,i hate for them to leave, but they know everything about our business finances, and if that is what they decide, then i will gladly shake their hands and thank them they will always be welcome back if and only if business picks back up,so please never accuse me of not being american,no where am i asking the government or the state to bail me out, i made my decision to go down my own road ,and will never ask for something i never earned. now,as fort you union people, if you continue to stand with commies and left wing nut jobs who would love nothing more than to destroy this great nation and her freedoms, then so be it,just remember you choice your path and choice to get what you could any way you could,so if you weren’t standing next to and with a bunch of left wing union bosses, then maybe and only maybe would i support you, i don’t a bargaining agreement with no one – nor should you. so let me see,i make nothing ,lose everything,so you can have what???? i made for years on less than a thousand dollars a month, and still raised two kids, own my own home and business plus payed a lot of bills, and you make what???? i will not lose everything so a few can have it all. and one more thing, we are one country, for now,

O.K. let’s call it union busting. Like the lefts hero FDR said. Public sector unions should have no collective bargaining because that would be unsustainable. ““It is impossible to bargain collectively with the government.” Government collective bargaining means voters do not have the final say on public policy. Instead their elected representatives must negotiate spending and policy decisions with unions. Unions pay to elect Democrats who will give them anything they want. The voters are now telling the unions GET LOST!

I am sick an tired of fools like yourself, nothing more than puppets, repeating the party lines given to by Beck, throwing an american flag in the face of labor when the corporate fat cats do not want to fair wages.
Your private business has nothing to do with the Walkers of the world bullying labor, your small business has nothing to do with the fats cats in auto and steel that fight tooth and nail to cut labor salary and benefits so that they can earn larger and larger bonuses.
The workers in Wisconsin agreed to a reduction in benefits, yet the tyrannt is still looking for his pund of flesh.
Its time for you to stop being a useful idiot for the rich and wake up.

Posted on April 1, 2011 at 6:42pm@encinom, i think you have that all wrong,it is people like me and millions more that buy the steel and the cars, you build, and it is and was our tax money that payed for the unions bail out, along with the banker fat cats . so the next time you go to work, remember that your 10% of the work force, and we make up 90% with us you don’t work. o by the way, i am a proud tea party patriot,i love small government and remember it was not the tea parties who uses strong arm, communist tactics to get what they want we also don’t stand next to or with any communist group, one more thing,we are not the one carrying Nazi signs,or tearing up our state hose,we are not the ones who are protesting any company just because of their political beliefs just to strong arm them into giving in.so call me what you would like, but remember we are all in this one way or another, either big government, more taxes, more freebies that they can’t pay for ,dictator style government { health care } ,or less government ,one tax, only elected officials with term limits, no subsides,no hand out { only for the sick or poor } it is up to us to decide, and i know where i stand ,with freedom not a new world order, how long do you think the union bosses will keep you hired when they can go to Egypt,or any third world country for less pay and more labor????? wow, that is what is already happening, so then what??? you will be in the same boat with the rest of us,

So is the freedom of speech and association, not a right but a privilege? Where in the bible does this creator fellow list out what are human rights? Cleary the Bill of Rights first amendment is counter to the first commandment, one outlines the right of freedom of religion and the other prohibits such freedom (the whole no other gods thing).

“Liberty,”
You mean like the LIBERTY to associate in a Union? This law tries to limit their liberties.

Posted on April 1, 2011 at 3:20pmIt’s interesting that those who want the “Liberty” of associating in a Union also want to limit the liberty of those who want to work the same job WITHOUT being in the union. ‘You are free to work wherever you want as a teacher, autoworker, steel worker, etc. as long as you pay us money and join our union and do what we tell you to do. And if you or your business don’t agree to support us, we are going to bully you and take away your business.’
Sounds more like extortion to me. Some freedom.

You have the liberty to associate with a union….what you don’t have a liberty to do is use extortion tactics to take from one group of people to provide for another. You can call it collective bargaining but the rest of us now it for what it is. Extortion.
I keep reading all this crap from the left on these blogs and other places and its getting absolutely disgusting. You know, I can almost have sympathy why they come here and talk about corporate greed and other corporate abuses. That‘s not what’s happening in Wisconsin. Union employees are paid higher wages, receive excellent benefits and pensions and it’s never enough. They gotta have more and more and more. They don’t care if the economy is in the tank, how large the state debt is, just gimme more. Well, it’s not the government paying these public sector union employees its the tax payer, The people doing the same jobs in the private sector for less money….
And don‘t even go into that I’m just jealous because I don’t work in a Union. That’s just more crap. The smoke screen of the left to turn our eyes away from addressing real issues. People are losing their homes, some people are doing without meds, others are doing without food (something after watching these videos of the demonstrators is obviously not an issue with union employees). The unions don’t care, its just gimme more, gimme more. We don‘t have it to give so why don’t you go ask Trumpka or the contributors who gave millions to the unions to support idiots like this “representative” they seem to have wealth to spread around. How about a Union strike against your own Union leaders and their fat cat supporters who raise 10 of millions of dollars around the country to buy elections? Maybe everybody who once worked in a Union shop and lost their job because of unfair demands by Unions that resulted in their company moving elsewhere or shutting down entirely should get together and form their own Union and start demanding a piece of the public sector Union employees pie? Maybe then you’ll see and understand how the rest of us feel.

As an Army Medic and as one of that era I’ve know many good men who were diagnosed as having manifested PTSD after having served multiple tours of hard combat. Passing Amendment #2 in Coloraod in no way compared to the Republic Of-nor to combat. This Democratic Pol sounds as gay as the lesbian professor from the Peoples Republic of Boulder Colorado the self diagnosis in both cases seems similar.
