Axelrod: Maher’s Use of C-Word Not as Bad as Limbaugh Because He’s Not Important

The Left has been attacked from multiple fronts for being allegedly too willing to tolerate sexist slurs from pundits like Bill Maher while attacking Rush Limbaugh for equal or lesser offenses. Yet senior Obama adviser David Axelrod argued that’s not the case after all on CNN tonight. His reason, ironically enough, is that Maher isn’t important enough for anyone to care about, whereas Limbaugh is.

Mediaite caught the video of Axelrod’s appearance with CNN anchor Erin Burnett. This is the relevant quote (emphasis added by Blaze staff):

Well, first of all, let me say there’s been a coarsening of our political culture. I don’t think that language is appropriate, no matter who uses it. And I think whoever you are in politics, you ought to be willing to say so. I was disappointed that Governor Romney didn’t stand up more forcefully when Rush Limbaugh said what he said.

But understand that these words that Maher has used in his standup act are a little bit different than — not excusable in any way — but different than a guy with 23 million radio listeners using his broadcast platform to malign a young woman for speaking her mind in the most inappropriate, grotesque ways.

Nor does Bill Maher play the role in the Democratic party that Rush Limbaugh plays in the Republican party, where he’s really the de facto boss of the party. Everybody responds to him, which is the reason why I think Governor Romney was afraid to take him on.

And here’s the video:

Got that? According to Axelrod, Maher’s an irrelevant pundit compared to Limbaugh, who Axelrod claims is in charge of the GOP. Much as that might please some voters, Axelrod‘s rationalization probably won’t sit well with Maher.

You have to love how he had to talk about Romney during the conversation. Slandering Romney everywhere he goes, that is the name of the game and Axel-nim-rod always tries to slam the candidate he most fears as an opponent. As Obama said earlier this week to their volunteers, trying to rally them, “if the elections were today, Romney would win.” That is quite telling. They fear Romney and know he will win in November.

That is if the base can get behind him. That is why Tea Partiers need to look at http://www.TeaPartyForRomney.com, it tells the truth of Romney’s record, that the media doesn’t want you to see, on things like his stance on abortion, 2nd amendment, health care, etc.

If Romney is the nominee we need to feel safe voting for his and that can only be done by looking at his history, which truly is conservative.

Wow this video is very revealing. Watch it again closely and notice how Axelrod is struggling to swallow and get his words out. Those in the military or law enforcement who have been trained to inerrogate or question detainees will pick up on this, it’s very noticeable. Deception under questioning causes the capillarys to contract restrictig the flow of saliva making it very difficult to swallow and to form words. Axelrod clearly doesn’t believe what he is saying. Poor guy, i’d flex cuff him and send him to GITMO.

Sigh. They just make up ANY excuse to pardon Bill Maher:

“It’s OK because he was just being funny, and Limbaugh was being serious.”
“It‘s OK because he’s a comedian, and Limbaugh is not.”
“It’s OK because Palin and Bachmann were politicians, but Fluke was just a woman.”
“It’s OK because Palin and Bachmann are conservatives, but Fluke is not.”

Now we have Axelrod’s little nugget:
“It’s OK because Bill Maher is not as important to Democrats as Rush Limbaugh is to Republicans.”

Mel Gibson is not as important to conservatives as Bill Maher is to liberals, yet he was still raked across the coals for his drunken antisemitic remarks.

Rush Limbaugh is a comedian that a lot of people take seriously and Bill Maher is a joke that a lot of people think is a comedian. Neither of the two clowns should have any impact on the general election, but unfortunately, I’m sure both of them will.

However, don’t play dumb, Blazers. We all know that it’s considerably more of an issue for Limbaugh to speak in the manner that he did because (a) he doesn’t claim to be a comedian and (b) so many flat-earthers listen to his show that he may have caused an inquisition-style wave of civil unrest with his illogical remarks. Bill Maher is (a) a comedian/satirist and (b) a “shock-jock” type of person. I don’t take either of them seriously, but the “I use a lot of curse words and say obscene one-liners” comedian is just following his M.O. when he says offensive things, Rush Limbaugh just looks like a fat white guy with a couple of divorces and a drug problem bashing on moonbeam college girls.

The right is really busy crying ‘foul’ over the reaction to Limbaugh’s remarks, but I think we all know that it’s a hollow argument (at best). Pretending to be outraged that Bill Maher gets away with profanity is comparable to the “why isn’t there a WHITE entertainment channel, then?” train of thought, which is obviously for fools.

@ Texas……….. Both you and Axelrod are correct, Rush does have a huge following and he is much more important. However Michael Richards and Don Imus, both of whom made terrible racist remarks about blacks, felt the full weight of the cabal of the left and media elites for doing so. All the while the same outrage was NOT directed towards the foul mouthed slurs of Maher, Schultz Matthews, Olberman et al. It’s ALL about the “victim” and their status as a protected class in the world view of the left. Conservative are fair game, even Trig Palin, the Downs Syndrome son of Sarah and Todd was ridiculed by Maher. Not a peep. I don‘t understand why this aspect of the controversy isn’t being addressed.

Only the right listens to Rush and mostly just older people. The left watches + listens to Maher and Maher also has the added position of television which appeals to the college kids and people just flipping channels. More watch tv or cable than listen to the radio.
He is trying to explain and defend a poor position on this. It cannot be done. Rush is only a radio talk show host…….nothing more ……and Maher is a television talk show host. Which medium can reach more?

Many of you Democrats come off as hypocrites because you commonly engage in the very conduct that you purport to abhor. If you want to take the high road then really walk on it and that means criticizing your own as much as you do your opponents. Bill Maher wasn’t important when he was just a comedian on stage. Now, he is on a political show as a political voice. He is in the same boat of scrutiny as any other political reporter so he should be held to the same standard. He preaches to the left and vilifies any conservative that comes on his show, so he has to uphold the same rules. When he decides to just go back to being a stand-up comic and limit his political rhetoric, then he can say he is a comic again. Until then, he should stop pulling the “I’m a comedian” card to defend his vile comments. I don’t think he should be fired, because that would destroy the foundation of the first amendment; but he should be held accountable for what he says…
