AZ Sheriff: ‘We’re Not Convinced He Acted Alone’

In a press conference Saturday evening, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik confirmed that law enforcement officials have reason to believe another person may be involved in the shooting spree which killed six Saturday and injured 18 more, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz.
“We’re not convinced that he acted alone,” Sheriff Dupnik said, referring to the accused perpetrator, 22-year-old Jared Loughner. Until the other suspect has been found and questioned, police are refusing to identify him. Authorities are reportedly hunting for a white man in his 50s.
Loughlin’s shooting massacre was brought to a halt when two “brave individuals” tackled him, the Sheriff announced.
Though Dupnik offered no details concerning the shooter’s motives for the crime, the Sheriff blamed unnamed members of the media for inciting the violence.
“When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And, unfortunately, Arizona I think has become sort of the capital. We have become the Mecca for prejudice and bigotry.
“It’s not unusual for all public officials to get threats constantly, myself included. And that‘s the sad thing of what’s going on in America. Pretty soon, we’re not going to be able to find reasonable, decent people who are willing to subject themselves to serve in public office.”
Additionally, Dupnik noted that federal judge John Roll was in the wrong place at the wrong time. According to the Wall Street Journal, Roll had showed up at Giffords event Saturday morning to thank her:
The federal judge who was shot dead Saturday at a political event in Tucson, Arizona, was there to thank U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords for backing his effort to get more judicial support for the swelling numbers of immigration cases in his district, according to two U.S. federal judges.
In an interview, Michael Hawkins, U.S. Circuit Court Judge of the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco, said Judge John Roll had recently asked Ms. Giffords to sign a letter to Alex Kozinsky, the chief judge of the Ninth Circuit, to help convince the court to declare his federal judicial district a judicial emergency due to the high number of immigration and border control cases that were being heard in that district.

Posted on January 8, 2011 at 11:04pmNuts, I kind of agree with ya about the religious thing, he seems to be bringing it up more and more. Having said that though. What I’ve seen from Glenn in the last 2 years were HIS observations on Obama and all his cronies. Glen has brought to lite Van Jones as an admitted communist in Van Jones own words and video. He has brought to lite many others, using their own words and video. Yes, Glenn believes they are trying to push at the least a socialistic society. BUT!, all Glenn has done is lay out all the information for us to do our own research to reach our own conclusions. I’ve come to the conclusion that he is right.

Please enlighten us, where you have ever heard him incite this type of violence..

Posted on January 8, 2011 at 10:54pmI’ve listened to Beck for many years and have seen him use fear and paranoia time after time in his quest for ratings. When his Clydie Clyde routine failed, he hit on the gimmick of promoting his image as “patriot” and now he’s gone over the deep end, predicting the end of the world, evil conspiracies, a commie in the White House around every bend etc. The topper is, Glenn tells his audience that God talks to him and guides his actions. A totally unproveable and outrageous claim by any standard. How anyone can trust a guy that’s in a cultish organization like the Mormon Church is beyond me as well. I think Beck is a dangerous fraud as do many, many others who are waking up to this phony’s gimmicks.

Posted on January 8, 2011 at 10:31pmIf it was a hit carefully organized by democrat party masters loyal to Russia , why not do it like the Wheeler case where she ends up in a landfill ? . Why take out so many innocent people? Then again if this is the work of Vladimir Putin’s american network, killing a lot of collateral people disguises the agent. He won’t look like a professional assasin . Slaughter by a contrived nut job can be leveraged beyond controll of your own party dissent into an external attack on opposing parties, which we have seen take place today in a highly organised campaign. Clearly the democratic party is marshalling its people to attack conservatives on all levels of media. That does make them look like they wanted this to happen or even knew it was going to happen in advance…a few of them .

Posted on January 8, 2011 at 9:56pmMy progressive paranoia has set in.This seems strange to have occurred in AZ. The left has had it in for AZ for a long time. I keep hearing some of their statements in my mind. They have repeatedly called for violence. They have no compassion for either the victim or the weak minded souls that they prey on to carry out their dirty deeds . They will throw them under the bus every time. It is almost like it was set up and things went a little to far and got out of control. To make a statement blaming conservatives immediately following this tragedy convienently stirred up a “crisis”. I could be totally wrong . It is just that we have seen the their faces of evil before and heard the coldness in their insidious words. Nothing would shock me, and I feel nothing will stop them.

Posted on January 8, 2011 at 9:52pmYeah… maybe he was working with the Fed. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit; look at what it has become.
The government has been infiltrated by DOMESTIC TERRORISTS.
Nancy Pelosi = DOMESTIC TERRORIST
Barack Obama = DOMESTIC TERRORIST
Eric Holder = DOMESTIC TERRORIST
Janet Napolitano = DOMESTIC TERRORIST
They are actually partially defined as such in the Patriot Act:
[[A person engages in domestic terrorism if they do an act dangerous to human life that is a violation of the criminal laws of a state or the United States, if the act appears to be intended to: intimidate or coerce a civilian population; influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping.]]
THAT’S ALL THEY DO… intimidation and coercion. Against court order in the Gulf, even. Can’t forget about “bankrupting” coal either… or insurance. Or championing abortion, which goes against the supposed right to life.
These people have twisted the constitution and bill of rights to the point that murdering babies and intimidating industry is “legal”.
DOMESTIC TERRORISTS. They attack insurance, the military, education, charity, energy, manufacturing, banking, housing, free speech, privacy, even the right for a baby to live… EVERYTHING.

He does not have the right to only enforce laws that he agrees with. If there are laws that he does disagree with then he should do the honorable thing and resign his office. Then he can run for office in the State or even Federal Congress and try to make laws that he agrees with.

Posted on January 8, 2011 at 9:01pmI saw the sheriff’s news conference….his implication was that the shooter was motivated by people who spew “vitriolic” statements….since the sheriff was a spokesperson for the “Progressive Sheriffs” in Arizona who opposed Arizona’s illegal immigration bill, I can only imagine that he meant the hate-mongers on the Conservative side. The shame is that these “politicians” are already using this tragedy to silence opposition to Progressive politics. Pres. Obama and several others on the Left our saying that we should “come together”. Fine. Once they stop trying to push their agenda down our throats, we will stop fighting against it. That is not what they want. Progressives just want us to lay down and shut up. It sickens me that they would shamelessly use this tragedy, 6 people dead, to silence their critics. It just shows how morally and idealogically the Progressives truly are.

@sledgehammer yep your right, the coming storm will come from the feds with more TSA tatics geared towards the public as a whole and not just in airport check in lines. Discusting how the left is blaming the right and vise versa. Why would POTUS send the Director of FBI directly to Arizona? This congresslady didnt deserve this in any magnitude and the inocent bystanders god bless them also. And the Sherrif hmm strange at best. When your a public law officer and stand in front of the Nation and injects personal political views and specifically lays the blame on talk radio and certain tv stations then its time to resign. The sad part about all this Government Officials will just distance them selves from the people which means a more disconnect with the public. What a tragic day. God speed to the Congress Lady and all victems today.

Sheriff, I watched your press conference and with all due respect would like to say that you are a moron. I’m aware you have called people who attend Tea Party events “bigots,” so when you stated during your press conference that this murdering spree was motivated by bigotry, I’m assuming your brilliant detective work leads you to think that this nutjob was affiliated with a Tea Party organization. I’m not a detective, but, unlike you, I do have a triple digit IQ and would guess that if one of the murderer’s favorite books was “The Communist Manifesto,” it is more likely that he voted for a Liberal idiot like you than any Tea Party candidate.
