Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann claimed Saturday that the United States has more fuel resources than any other country, but blamed what she termed “radical environmentalists” for bottling up American energy policy.
With untapped oil reserves in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and off the nation’s coasts, shale oil in Western states, and rich natural gas and coal deposits, she said the U.S. “is sitting on a mother lode of treasure.”
“The United States is the number one country in the world for energy resources,” the Minnesota congresswoman told a central Florida town hall meeting, arguing that in shale deposits alone the U.S. easily outstrips the total oil supply of Saudi Arabia. “That doesn’t even include … all the oil in Alaska.”
But Bachmann said environmentalists were preventing resources from being exploited, leaving the U.S. dependent on energy imports.
“Instead of thinking we are beggars out here begging for oil and for energy, we are the king daddy dogs when it comes to energy,” she said.
“The radical environmentalists have demanded that we lock up all our energy resources,” she added. “President Bachmann will take that key out of the door. I will unlock it.”
The crowd at the upscale retirement community cheered wildly.
And Bachmann got a similar reception when she promised to eliminate the “job killing” Environmental Protection Agency, saying that she would close the agency down in a single trip. “We will turn out the lights and we’ll lock the doors,” she said.
Bachmann is in the middle of a three-day swing through Florida. Later Saturday she will address the Florida Family Policy Council, which led efforts to ban gay marriage in the state constitution.
She said she would be returning often to the state. Florida could play a key role in determining which GOP candidate faces off against President Barack Obama.
The state hasn’t set a primary date yet. But Florida officials hope to schedule it ahead of all but the four earliest voting states — Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.

Posted on August 28, 2011 at 3:18amYes, let’s get rid of the EPA. I long for the day when large cities were covered with permanent smog, blotting out the sky and sun, where simply living and breathing there is equivilant of smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. Yes, those were the good old days, when rivers occasionally caught fire from all the solvents dumped in them by chemical companies and the fish you caught there were inedible from the mercury in their tissue. Yes, when our kids got cancer from the carcinogens in the drinking water – how we all miss that! Why shouldn’t our cities smell like chemicals and petroleum? Who care if we can no longer swim at the beaches because the water is toxic and filled with garbage?
Companies the country over could save money if they could simply spew sulpher into the atmosphere (nothing better than acid rain!), and dump toxins into the land, sea and air. The rich, who can afford to live somewhere else, will be making more money! Who cares if cities are unlivable for the rest of us?

Posted on August 28, 2011 at 1:20pmHi Speck, I just left China. I didn’t see the sun or a patch of blue sky in my one week there, all thanks to coal burning for energy production. Extreme? Scare tactics? Read this about the Cuyahoga river, which has caught fire 13 times in the last 100 years or so, thanks to pollution: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuyahoga_River. Google the word “smog” and read about how cities like Denver and LA were blanketed by a permanent haze before the EPA stepped in an regulated emissions(did I mention lead – a neurotoxin, brain damage – before lead gasoline was banned?).
You must be young. My post wasn’t a scare tactic, I was only referencing US history. I wasn’t making a prediction, I was talking about the effect of pollution that the US has already experienced. Ironic, too, that a Glenn Beck fan would be critical of an alarmist post. Glenn make his living preaching an alarmist, apocalyptic worldview.
Didn’t I answer your question about my liberal philosophy and personal life? I thought I did. Okay, here’s a starter. “Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor.” Luke 18:18-22. “Do not look to your own interests, but let each of you look to the interest of others” Phil 2:2-5. “Whoever has the world’s goods and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?” 1 John 3:17

You must be old, if your profile pic is you and not father time from a google image search. I don’t see what age has to do with anything, unless you’re an ageist, then I get it.
The liberal argument seems to be we can’t reign in wasteful government spending or unelected government agencies who continue to amass more unnecessary power. Liberals believe ANY attempt to get on the right track would result in acid rain or pushing g-ma over a cliff. Call it what you will, I will call them scare tactics. I can see your side of not wanting to do away with the EPA completely and I apologize if you agree they have overstepped their authority.
About me being critical of an alarmist post, you missed the point. As one who bashes beck as a fear monger, it was a bit hypocritical of you to invoke acid rain and toxic beaches.
Bible verses are nice but you didn’t answer the question. Give examples from your life. Tell how you sold every possession you own (minus you computer) and gave to the poor or how you put the interests of your conservative brothers and sisters before your liberal interests.
I pre-apologize because I know you dislike referencing a topic from other articles, but please inform me on the number limit that the second amendment places on firearms? Maybe my post about the second amendment didn’t post. Here is: My copy of the Constitution says says, “A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” Is that what yours says too? My dictionary says “arms” is synonymous with “weapon.”
Like much of the Constitution that phrase is subject to interpretation. Does it mean I have the right to have nuclear arms? Should I assert my Second Amendment Constitutional right to possess surface to air missles? Hand grenades? Flame throwers or a bazooka? Chemical weapons?
Of course not, there are limits that have to be based on reason. That‘s why you can’t legally buy a nuclear bomb, even if you had money. You’re correct, the Constitution doesn’t limit the number of guns you can own. If you want to believe that those eight AK 47s being sold over and over to the same person are for protection of a family of eight, well, okay. Believe it if you want.

National defense, which is a function of the Air Force, is one of the things spelled out in the Constitution for which the Federal Government has a direct responsibility: Article I, Section 8.
The EPA, who’s function is dubious, is administered by appointed bureaucrats who are not elected by The People. Yet the regulations that come from the EPA are enforced as if they had the weight of legislated laws.

Goldstein was not “invented by the Party”. In the book, he lived and was indeed an early “subversive” to the Party. The lie was that he was still free and causing mischeif for the State. The reality was he’d already been broken and turned into an unperson by the time the central character came along.

You quote bible verses as if you are a believer in God, the creator of this universe, if you are not a believer why do you quote something that is non-sense to you? I can tell you, man does not and never will be in control of our environment on planet earth or any where else except maybe in very limited ways. For instance what control did Al Goredo and the environmentalists have over the earth quake in Virginia? If we had two or more major volcanos errupt or a large meteor collision with earth we could easily move into a new form of ice age, what control does the envirmrntalist man have there? Not too much, nevertheless, we might be in a little better position if we had lots of cheap energy to warm our homes. God expects us to trust in Him not Al Goredo: This should be clear to anyone who quotes the Bible. Going on from there, if you travel as much as you say, you appear to be one of the contributors, like Al Gordo, of polluting this environment so why is it you don’t protect the environment by getting a job just down the street from your home and ride a bike to work? Liberals can be so hypocritical eg. Al Gordo and our beloved president Barak, the puppet, Obama. The GOD who created this universe will control it to meet His ends and for the leaders of the environmentalists wackos, they are just in it for the money.

Bleed us dry financially, slowly and steadily, while tying us up with so many regulations upon more regulations until everything comes down in a massive collapse.
Mr Obamas greatest dream this would be, and it is the nightmare the people of America need to stand against.

Posted on August 27, 2011 at 8:27pmLibs don’t seem to be able to look at green energy from a practical standpoint. If you count the subsidies required to get windmills and solar off the ground, the cost per KWH is at least double that of coal, nuclear, Hydro or natural gas. Of course we need to continue work on green concepts but not by buying into large scale energy schemes that make rates permanently skyrocket. Our fragile economy can’t stand another negative shock.

Posted on August 27, 2011 at 7:34pmBachmann is so right on about the radical environmentalists. When the environmentalist first started they were good and well needed. They have totally gone to far about our natural resourses dealing with energy. Balance is what is needed with our resources and the environmentalist will not listen to logic, that will bring us the energy we needed and still protect our enviroment.
We so need a president that can bring us the energy we need, that we can get out of our own country, and not be paying high prices that the oil cartel are asking and getting for their oil. This would bring in so many jobs and give us the energy we need.
None of the other canadats have even come close with an answer to our energy problem, as Bachmann has. It is time we elect a president that will work for the good of our country and also provide jobs that are needed.

Posted on August 28, 2011 at 5:21pmAgree with Michelle 100%. Balance is required. Unfortunately, having worked in environmental enforcement, balance is the exception. Most are radical and heavily biased with no conscience about these things as it affects their day to day judgments. I got out of that career because being even handed and fair brought on persecution from the radicals both inside and outside…though I reaped greater actual results in emissions reductions and accuracy. Even now USAJOBS begins its EPA position opening annoucements with “where every day is earth day” (ie you‘ve got to be a nature worshipping radical or they don’t want you.) It’s the only place where bias in JUDGMENT is prerequisite for employment. Add to that the elite socialists/communists (as Carol Browner) use of it as a tool for productivity reductions and global redistribution of wealth and you’ve got one mean apparatus against free Americans and the economy.
The whole Agency needs to be scraped. States can regulate what needs to be regulated more efficiently, with a heavier dependance on civil suits when life or property is impacted. And by all means balanced individuals must be employed when needed.

The only way Obama is gonna get another term is if the Neo-Libs a.k.a. Neo-Cons a.k.a. undercover progressives push Perry, Bachmann, Cain, or Palin (if she runs).
But even then if Dr. Paul runs as an independent He would still get enough votes to win. (read my post below this)
Remember this, and this goes to all the Neo-Libs/Neo-Cons, this is the 2012 election not the 2008 election and people don’t use MSM anymore and Dr. Paul is king of the alternative media.

Posted on August 27, 2011 at 7:33pmTough talk from the pint-sized candidate. Any talk of shutting down the EPA gets me perked up and on that bandwagon. That’s an “idea” worth listening to. Uh, buuuuuttttt…….I don‘t think she’s gonna get the chance to fufill that promise. The “machine” that is the GOP will never allow it. Too many progressives in the party. It’s tainted and has lost any credibility it ever had. It gets more and more difficult to discern between sincere platforms v.s. grandstanding platitudes from would-be candidates. Anytime someone is down in the polls, they feel they have to make some grand public statement to get the media buzzing about them again. You know…politics as usual.
The real question is….who can you really trust to follow through with their ideas? And, can they even get enough cooperation from Congress to pull any of these more radical ideas off? Can we really trust Romney or Perry? I doubt it. They’re the the two with the best resumes, but are what’s wrong with Washington today. Career politicians with RINO skin. Can we trust Bachmann, Paul, or Cain? More likely, but they’ll get far less cooperation from those needed to push their agenda.
The “Damocles Sword” is when either, Perry or Romney gets the GOP bid and one of the Tea Party candidates run on an Independant ticket and split the Conservative and Independant vote. With fear of another 4 yrs of stinkin’ BO most will vote for the GOP guy, and the Tea Party and Liberatarians will vote

About 50% of Dems are fed up with Obama and the Dem establishment status quo and back Dr. Paul.
About 60-70% of Independents are fed up with the GOP and DEM establishment status quo and back Dr. Paul.
That is more then enough to win the election.
In fact did you know that when Dr. paul started the Tea party back in 2007 he had a 35-40% democratic base at his rallies?
That’s the best thing about Paul, He can pull in Republican, Democrat, and Independent voters. Just look at how his popularity has grown in just the past 4 years without much media coverage.
Obama doesn’t stand a chance against Dr. Paul in the election.
