Bachmann Doesn’t Rule Out Ground Forces: ‘This is President Obama’s War’

During a “Fox & Friends” interview on Wednesday, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) made some strong statements about America’s intervention in Libya. Not only did she call this Obama’s war, but she also said sending troops in looks like a possibility.
“We’re looking at a full scale escalation, potentially United States troops on the ground — we were assured by our president that that would not happen — and now a call for arms. So this is President Obama’s war, even though he’s not using that term, we are now engaged in a third Middle Eastern battle.
“I think this was the wrong move at the wrong time,” she added:
Bachmann’s assertion that troops may end up on the ground is not far-fetched considering 2,200 sailors and marines have just been deployed off the coast of Libya (to replace Marines already in the area). WTVD reports:
Twenty-two hundred Marines and sailors from Camp Lejeune are preparing to deploy off the coast of Libya in northern Africa. They said goodbye to their families Monday afternoon, and they’ll be leaving in the days ahead.
“There’s always in the back of your mind what if, what could happen,” Marine wife Carrie Cochran said. [...]
The 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit was set to deploy to the Mediterranean later this year but that got bumped up once NATO forces launched an air assault on Libya.
The unit is relieving the 26th MEU, which took part in some of the initial assaults. The 22nd is a Marine, air and ground task force. Some are trained for aviation combat, others for ground combat. They can handle evacuations and humanitarian missions too. [Emphasis added]
Whatever the president decides, Cochran’s husband, Sergeant Lewis Cochran, says he told his little boy, Dylan, he’s ready.
“My Marines, all the Marines the whole PLT is ready to go,” Sgt. Cochran said.

Posted on March 30, 2011 at 10:12amGee, America NEVER saw that coming. Boots on the ground, a third war, Van Jones must be rolling in hysterics as his STORM plan reach’s fruition.
Report Post »Congress, particularly the pansies in the House cried foul at Obamanation when he didn’t consult them about this ( thought the socialist’s have the war powers act of 1973 to fall back on). Yet just EXACTLY what have they done? Whining, sniveling, simpering, and pandering to the socialist in chief. What, defund this illegal police action, this kinetic missuse of American arms? Since when does America become the worlds conscious, and judge, jury, and executioner to people we deem “ dangerous to their own peoples” ? Does everyone here fully undeerstand that since WWII, congress has declared war on only Iraq, and that’s debatable? No small wonder the rest of the world despises us when we foist our “ oh so wonderful moral decries upon them by force of arms”. All of this is in the socialist’s plan for our demise, it’s in the STORM Manuel, in Alyanski, and in full force as we live and breath. The dangers our nation faces at this moment and time are legion, tantamount to catastrophic !
Taken piecemeal the events and actions our government has taken seem innocuous, looked at together in light of what Glenn, and yes Alex as well have shown us, we see clear indication of the terrible troubles soon to descend upon our nation. Yet not only America, but this blue orb, earth and all her peoples. No matter ones spiritual/ religious beliefs, it is obvious to one and all that something incredible and life shattering comes our way. My suggestion, clean house, trust in GOD through the grace of Christ Jesus and help others whenever they need it.
Soon.

But throwing in missiles, planes and possibly ground support for something they started is overreaching at least. France and Britain get a LOT of oil from Libya and they have a bunch of economic and resource interests there, which is fine. I dont want to see Europeans freezing to death next winter because they cant get oil to heat their homes.
The plain truth is that america got sucked into this engagment by the europeans and they dont have a plan or the stomach to do anything. And when/if this new Caliphate is established there will be another world war. It would be much better for the entire world if Britain colonized Libya and ran the government.

Is it all being done using predator drones and spotter aircraft, or are there actually observers on the ground radioing the information to the attacking aircraft? When opposing forces are in close contact, especially in urban areas, the absolute best and perhaps only way to do it is to have someone on the ground calling in the air strikes. This has to be done by someone who has been trained to do it. I strongly suspect that there are some Special Operations people on the ground doing this. They may or may not be Americans, but I do think that they are there.

The regime is considering arming the rebels, but they do not really know who they are. Where is all the money for the weaponry coming from? What is the endgame here? Who stands to gain/benefit from this operation? The idea that suddenly the US will be cheered on by the Muslim world because of this is more than a bit far-fetched. Could the endgame be not to improve the US’s standing in the Muslim world, not to remove a heinous dictator(who the world has left in power for over 40 years), but to stretch the military so thin that any sort of major problem in the US would not be rapidly contained. I agree that she is taking a big risk by criticizing the President this early. It makes it look as though she is not principled and will take the opposite point of view no matter what he does. This kind of raw politics is not good when our troops are at risk.
It is ironic, however, that conservatives quickly point to the saving of lives from brutality under Saddam Hussein as the sufficient rationale for the Iraq War, but they refuse to admit the same rationale in this case. Either you have to admit that Bush was wrong to invade because there were no WMDs and Obama is wrong to attack Libya because they likely lack WMDs, or you have to accept the invasion of Libya on humanitarian grounds, just as you did the one in Iraq. I think they are both huge mistakes, but most conservatives are not that consistent…

Posted on March 30, 2011 at 12:31pmIt is not just conservatives, the left is split on this issue also. I am an isolationist at heart myself, but sometimes it is hard to know what is just and what is not. Hindsight is also 20/20, don’t forget Bush had the support of congress, did Obama here?
Listen, I am not blaming Obama for anything on this matter. I think he is handling Egypt, Syria, and Libya as best he can. No matter what he says or does most folks in here are going to despise him…And with good reason I would say…But I am going to be fair to the man here, this is indeed a turd sandwich and Bush could not have handled it any better. Should we have joined the UN? I really don’t know…There are equally serious ramifications on both sides of that argument. Why not Syria or Iran last year? Listen, our resources are limited and we can only do what we can do, I understand that. The whole thing is a powder keg and we would be best served just pulling out of that area of the world entirely…But then what about Israel…There is just no way to win here.
The left are nothing but a pack of brainless, yapping lapdogs making noise at everything that moves. We all know this. But the right needs to shut up and not play that game. Criticize where it is legitimate, but we do not need to act like 5 year olds arguing with our siblings. I am sick of the attacks from BOTH sides and am patiently listening for someone…anyone…with some answers.

Posted on March 30, 2011 at 1:13pmI don’t the think the left is uniformly brainless as you claim. I think there are smart and thoughtful folks on both sides, and then a lot more morons on both sides as well.
I think there are a lot of liberals that have learned that Bush had a tougher call to make and greater challenge to manage that they originally thought, while many conservatives ignored those realities when it came to Clinton and now Obama. These are highly complex situations that we are better off avoiding, even if it means that we have to watch innocents die at the hands of dictators, or we have to watch folks who attack us get away. The invasion of Afghanistan, a direct retaliation for 9/11, hasn’t brought perpetrators (e.g., Osama bin Laden) to justice, nor has it made us safer. In “No Country for Old Men,” the uncle in a wheelchair is asked what he’d have done if the man that put him there had been released, to which he responds, “nothing.” Why? “All the while you’re trying to take back what was took from you, more is flying out the door. It’s better to get a tournaquet on it…” Maybe we ought to internalize that lesson about what a truly humble foreign policy should look like. It is tough, and few politicians could survive it. We all want the gratification of revenge. But none of these three wars looks very rational to me. Of course, in two of them, I have the benefit of hindsight.

Am I a “troller?” Have you read many of my posts to understand my political orientation? I am sorry if you cannot face reality, but I am capable of thinking for myself, not being tied to any party or website. If you had bothered to read my first response to ABC you would have seen what I said about the left. Here, I will replay it for you:

ABC disagrees with me and he is probably right. I am sure many on the left are “intelligent” enough but for whatever reason they are deluded. I have yet to find an issue where I agree with the left. So take that for what it is worth when you consider my political persuasion.
However, my comment was directed at just the type of person as yourself! You are a member of the peanut gallery, you simply want to rant and rave and go to war with anyone that does not agree with you 100%. You are not interested in actually reading the articles here, you have no idea what this issue is even about. You simply read the infuriating headline and get your panties in a wad and lash out at anyone who dares dispute the world according to RJO. Posted on March 30, 2011 at 9:45amIt’s for politics only. Obama spent the first 2 years of his presidency (if you want to call it that) trying to wind down out of campaign mode and now he’s winding up with a war in Libya. He thinks he need a war like his predecessors to get re-elected. I’ll bet he takes out Qaddafi, or at least tries.
But honestly, with man’s incompetence, he is liable to screw up the whole thing. Pray for our men and women in the armed services. They have to take orders from this boob.

Perhaps you are unable to comprehend that abandonment includes not fortifying the conflict with the appropriate level of troops or equipment or worse, implementing “new rules of engagement”. Obama abandoned the troops in Afghanistan when they were requesting 35,000 troops ASAP and instead he dithered for over a month, then announced he would send 15,000 troops while also announcing our withdrawal date. How do you fight when you feel you are not backed 100% by your CIC?
Quite telling of your simplistic one tract mind that abandonment could only mean literal physical abandonment. The new rules of engagement and the “medal of restraint” are other examples of abandonment. If you are the CIC that has the balls to send men to die, stand behind them, give them everything they ask for ASAP, do not implement policies that will put them in harm’s way and NEVER give aid, comfort or hope to the enemy by announcing when we will withdraw

Posted on March 30, 2011 at 1:07pmHere we go again. Remember that one time we went to war in Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction that reportedly didn’t exist? The progressives sure didn’t like that too much. This time we may be going to war with our enemies because we didn‘t take the time to figure out who we’re fighting. How is that any different? I’ll enjoy seeing how they try to sweep this one under the rug!
God bless our troops! We appreciate you so much!

Report Post »We have no business in Libya. And remember how well it turned out for us the last time we followed France into a war? The only reason I want our forces in that region is to prevent the destruction of Isreal. But that doesn’t appear to be part of the rules of engagement for this administration. Prayer is nice, but don’t neglect your food, water, and ammunition.

That‘s EXACTLY what I’ve been trying to get people to understand! Is there nobody left but a few of us “bloggers” that even gives a damn what happens to our military & country? I know…they’re trained warriors. I believe they are the best of what the U.S. has to offer & can kick anybody’s ass on a level or even disadvantaged playing field (historical fact). But a current fact is also true that you can’t spread out our Defense so thin that supply lines can easily be destroyed (conventional).
Sure, our technology & training is superior. Our people have honor & courage. Our politicians & government are dishonorable & failing those who defend our very liberties. This is the key as to what the anarchists, Secret Society, Muslim, Communists want…spread us so thin that we can’t take care of ourselves. In the most basic yet militaristic sense: Use their own sense of morality against them.
Please read “The Art of War”. Our Republic is being taken away because of our values. I’ve commented so many times & only ONE person had the courage to reach back out to me. Is spending time posting all our charming wit all we can do?
BTW: I had the honor of thanking a WWII Vet on Saturday, & a Vietnam Vet today. The pain in their eyes tells me all I need to know about where our country is. It’s been sold & given away cheap.
