Republican Michele Bachmann is laying blame for the so-called “Arab Spring” on President Barack Obama. According to the GOP presidential contender, Obama’s stance on Israeli-Palestinian peace talks laid the groundwork for the uprisings against autocratic governments across the Arab world.
At a fundraiser Thursday in North Carolina, Bachmann traced the mass protests that sometimes turned deadly to Obama’s call for Israel to return to negotiations and pull back to the territory it held prior to the 1967 war with Egypt. According to NBC News, she compared Obama’s approach and policies to those of President Jimmy Carter in the 1970s. She said:
“I am probably even more concerned about the foreign policy implications because of what Barack Obama has done to the nation.
Just like Jimmy Carter in the late 1970s didn’t have the back of the Shah of Iran, we saw the Shah fall and the rise of the Ayatollah. And we saw the rise and the beginnings of radical Jihad which have changed this world and changed this nation.”
Bachmann also said that the president “has laid the table for the Arab Spring by demonstrating weakness from the United States of America.” She continued:
“So too under Barack Obama, we saw him put a lot of daylight between our relationship with our ally Israel. And when he called on Israel to retreat to its indefensible 1967 borders, don‘t think that message wasn’t lost on Israel’s 26 hostile neighbors.”
Watch her comments, below:
The Arab spring protests stretched from Algeria in North Africa to Syria in the Middle East. Some led to political instability in nations with longstanding rulers.
Bachmann’s campaign did not immediately return a message left by The Associated Press for elaboration.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

obama and his islamic, socialist, khalifate-loving democrat kindred, are PROUD of the uprisings, and obama even WANTS America to “rise up” the same way! If I recall, he has even CALLED FOR IT !

Posted on September 30, 2011 at 8:01pmThere is a lot of truth in what Bachmann says. These guys were dictators and tyrants, but they were friends of America and were willing to come to terms with Israel. Now we have these countries under the control of out of control Muslim mobs. People like them aren’t ready for democracy, and maybe they never will be.

Quit smoking that stuff, and use your brain! Muslim Terrorists and Dictators, ARE BULLIES TO THE nth DEGREE! Whenever you deal with bullies, YOU SHOW THEM YOUR NOT AFRAID OF THEM!! RUNNING AROUND TELLING THEM YOU‘RE SORRY FOR EVERYONE WHO’S EVER STOOD UP TO THEM, ONLY MAKES YOU A TARGET!! At one time Obama took credit for the Arab Spring! Jimmy Carter showed the world how tough America was by sending his MOTHER to be his personal envoy to many of them!! VERY TOUGH!!! JFK SAID UNLESS WE LEARN FROM HISTORY WE ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT!!! History with the M E is that when Israel had the 67 borders ALL THE NATIONS AROUND THEM USED THE HIGH GROUND TO ATTACK THEM!
MB is VERY well versed in fact!!! You need to learn some of them before you criticize her!

The U.S. is being weakend to the point that we won’t be able to viably protect Israel, at the same time these muslim countries are gaining strength. God is not going to allow His Israel to be overtaken completely. You Chistians out there remember….these are hard times to watch, things seem to be out of out control, but at what will be the lowest point and it will seem like the end for Israel, 144,000 jews are going to rise up with the Lord and lay waist to satan and his army of muslims….can’t wait to see that.. Posted on September 30, 2011 at 4:02pmYou know, I like her understanding of the Constitution and history. Her problem is her personality is really flat. Watching her in Iowa, I saw more of her personality that I’d only noticed in glimpses, before.
She doesn’t come across as sharp and articulate. I know she’s not dumb, but she speaks slowly, and she responds slowly. No doubt, she’s carefully considering her responses before she speaks, but the time-lag makes her sound “slow”, as in she doesn’t “think on her feat”. She’s not incisive, and that’s not very inspiring for a leader.
I’m backing Herman Cain now. Sometimes he has the opposite problem. He’s a little brash, and sometimes speaks without fully considering his words, but he comes across as passionate, so it’s easy to forgive his minor miss-steps.

Posted on September 30, 2011 at 3:52pmIt has already become clear that Bachmann is not ‘the guy’. So, her campaign notwithstanding, no harm is done by such reductionist sound bites.
Elections in Iraq subsequent to Bush’s overthrow of S. Hussein have inspired those seeking Representative government to overthrow oppressive, tyrannical regimes in their own countries. Thus, ‘Arab Spring’.
B. Hussein’s sympathy for anyone who is anti-American has encouraged oppressive, tyrannical movements to attempt to co-opt the ‘Arab Spring’. It remains to be seen whether and to what extent tyrants may succeed.

Please explain to me how that is “weak”? What is he supposed to do; start 10 different unfunded wars to stop every uprising in the entire freakin’ world? That doen’t make any sense. We are all complaining about how broke we are but then saying we should be everywhere in the world to stop an uprising half-way across the world.
It is not intellectually consistent for anyone on this blog to scream for smaller government and decreased costs one second and the next saying we should go into Egypt and stop that uprising and spend the trillions of dollars necessary to prop up another democracy.
I say we sit back, get our house in order. Se what comes of this uprising, and if the new governments starts anything we can blow them to kingdom come then.

Report Post »Godfather.1
Posted on September 30, 2011 at 3:53pmNot only do her comments indicate that she is fine with other people living under dictatorships as long as it helps us, her time is also off.
She claims Obama’s stance on the Israeli-Palestinian border led to the Arab Spring. Let’s see, the Arab uprisings began in December 2010 while Obama made those comments in May of 2011.
So, not only does Michelle Bachmann not care about democracy or human suffering in other countries, once again she has shown that she is factually challenged.
Report Post »Jaycen
Posted on September 30, 2011 at 3:54pmSo far, I haven’t seen anyone state we should go into Egypt. That wasn’t what Michelle Bachman said.
The complaint was that Obama’s weakness, his loosening our ties with Israel, encouraged our enemies abroad. If you paid attention to the fact that most of the uprisings were instigated by unions, and that SIUE wrote a handbook (published in 2009) that showed up in the hands of Middle Eastern unions members during the uprisings – you‘d understand that Obama’s organizations are probably directly behind the Arab Spring.
You want to talk about unfunded wars? Are you in the camp that thinks that government spending increases economic prosperity? Did WWII pull us out of the Depression?
If so, then President Obama inherited a Progressive Utopia from President Bush. We should have walked into a golden age with Obama’s inauguration. Clearly, his continuation – and in many cases, his ramping up – of Bush’s progressive policies have shown Progressivism to be an abject failure.
George Bush and his crusade to police the world is the Nationalist Progressive ideal. Barack Obama is an Internationalist Progressive. The differences are really nuanced from my perspective. Both want massive entitlement spending, legislated morality, and government control of your life.
Wake up, dude.

Unions have a history of starting revolutions so it’s not that big of a surprise that they are behind some of these.
Your comparison to WWII is off. Although the war was not completely paid for, taxes rose significantly to pay for the war effort, which is the exact opposite of what happened under Bush. For WWII, revenue increased, under Bush it decreased.
Report Post »Jaycen
Posted on September 30, 2011 at 4:25pmFair enough, Godfather, but taxation has little to do with revenue historically. Spending has everything to do with it. In fact, I think most conservative (Austrian) economists would agree that lower taxation tends to increase revenue, as you get more economic growth with lower taxation. Growth increases revenue faster and in greater proportion than taxation does.

A bit off-topic here, but here’s a link you might find enlightening on the deficits and debt.
http://zfacts.com/p/318.html
Click on any of the charts there for further explanation, and there’s a video at the bottom. Not sure how Bush’s tax cuts brought on any prosperity for the nation, myself. It sure brought a lot of prosperity for the wealthy overlords he served, there’s no doubt about that. But he bankrupted our country big-time.

Posted on September 30, 2011 at 3:09pmAll the colored revolutions are in furtherance of American foreign policy. Their only failure was in Iran, where the CIA found out too late that they would have to do more than just hand out cell phones. Like they tried in Iran, they (we) are continuing to choose regimes more repressive than already exist to assume power. That has been consistent American foreign policy for the past century.
