Bachmann Responds to Pawlenty Remarks: ‘This is an Election About the Future’

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann has responded following fellow 2012 hopeful Tim Pawlenty’s comments on Meet the Press this morning that “her record of accomplishment in Congress is non-existent.” POLITICO reports that this is what the Minnesota Congresswoman had to say:

“This is an election about the future of our nation – one where voters will have to decide who is best equipped to lead our nation by looking at our records, as well as our vision for the nation. Instead of negativity, I want to focus on my accomplishments.

I have fought the cap-and-trade agenda, rather than implement it, and I will work to end cap-and-trade as President of the United States. I stood up against President Obama’s support of the $700 billion bailout rather than defend it.

I was a leading voice, fighting against Obamacare and the unconstitutional individual mandates; I did not lift my voice in praise of it. My message brought tens of thousands of Americans to Washington D.C. to oppose Obamacare. As President I will not rest until Obamacare is repealed. And I will not vote to raise the debt ceiling.

People can count on me as a fighter; I am proud of my record of fighting with resolve, and without apology, for our free markets, for sane fiscal policies, and in opposition to the advancement of the big government left. As President, the American people can count on me to stand by my record of advancing pro-growth policies to put our nation back on the right track.”

Bachmann’s response does not mention Pawlenty directly, but Bachmann’s early emphasis on cap-and-trade draws attention to Pawlenty’s past support of the legislation.

What do you think of Bachmann’s response? Puts Pawlenty in his place or reiterates her “accomplishments” as simply supporting the majority positions of her party (anti-cap-and-trade, repeal ObamaCare, won’t raise debt ceiling).

I don’t listen to any politicains when they try to sway me to vote for them based on what they call their acheivements. Simple fact is I just want to know where they stand on the issues, their plan on solving it and how they would go about convensing congress and the senate to support thier ideas. Aside from that I will decide on who’s plans best fits my opinion on how to solve the issues of the day and then I will vote for them. Just as the last election cycle when Obama ran against McCain, I voted for Duncan Hunter.

Too many candidates will say what they think the people want to hear to get elected. There will be conservatives doing this too. Newt isnt an option for me, Rommy either. I saw Pawlenty on msnbc when I was going through the channels. Hes on my list of concerns after that. I didnt stay long enough to hear what he had to say. I like Santorum. I like Perry, I didnt like the animal bill he signed that was written up by a dem. woman. There will be more maybe. The people will decide this time who is the right person for the job. Lotus.

I thought Michele Bachmann‘s response to Pawlenty’s desperate remarks on “Meet the Press” were spot on. Pawlenty, by doing what he did this morning, reaffirms what most of US already know: Michele Bachmann is the 800 lb. gorilla in the room. He made a fool of himself for David Gregory‘s sake and gave Michele another opportunity to show what she’s made of. About a month back, she BITCH-SLAPPED David Gregory on that very same show when he attempted to back her into a corner. Today was ol‘ Timmy’s turn to feel the wrath of a woman scorned! Michele has my vote! She impresses while most of the rest depress US!

Her response to his concern about her not having a record of accomplishment was to give a laundry list of things she has opposed and fought against. Kind of made his point. She has not brought forward a single idea. She opposes other peoples ideas, but as president she might have to actually come up with something once in awhile.
Pawlenty is right about this woman and so were the people who left her campaign with the same comments.

      Saranda,
Don’t fall for the foolish and progressive assumptions that a “good” candidate is one that has proposed a variety of government programs and projects. What is needed now is a candidate who has the intellectual integrity to do whatever he or she can to drain the federal swamp of its endless, useless programs.

The fact that Bachmann not only withstood the pressures to increase the reach of the federal government, but to lead the resistance, is a fact of accomplishment.

Bachmann is a bright, well-educated and experienced political leader, not some mere wonk who wants to engineer society (i.e. you and me as persons) into some sort of well-run beehive.

So far Rep Bachmann has my vote and money… A new Idea isn’t always the best thing. Sometimes returning to a previous status quo is the best option. Fighting to keep “Washington” from spending us into ruin is just the medicine we need and it seems fewer and fewer people are understanding that… The house of cards is not far from falling down around us. Its time we return to some old standards, like live within our means!!!

      Cheezwhiz,
I don’t care about lineage, hair, voice, or any other superficial quality. I care about upholding the Constitution. Only one candidate from either party meets that standard and that is Ron Paul.

BTW Bachmann voted for the Patriot Act more than once and the most recent (to extend) was just weeks ago. I can’t consider her a patriot when she is so willing to break her oath to uphold the Constitution.

Many “conservatives” define patriotism as supporting our military efforts (no matter whether the engagemnets are constitutional or not). I believe that politicians use these un-necessary wars to keep the masses behind the government by spreading the belief that unless you support our war efforts you are not patriotic. They create unrealistic threats to our security so that we will follow them out of fear and call it patriotism. The real victims are the soldiers who are killed in wars that are engineered for political reasons and are truly accomplishing little in regards to American freedom or security. In truth there is no foreign nation that is currently a serious threat to the U.S.
True conservatism and patriotism is not being a military cheerleader but being devoted to our founding principles of liberty, our Constitution, and to the foreign policy endorsed by the Founding Fathers of humble friendship extended to all nations and no entangling alliances. Ron Paul is the real patriot in this race.

Every word of her statement was just the standard, shallow presidential candidate cookie cutter response to the question of their performance. It’s about as useless as a post-game press conference with an NFL wide receiver. It adds nothing to the game.

I would love to hear her give an in-depth explanation of her understanding of economics (i.e. Austrian Economics vs Keynsian) and the role of the Federal Reserve and the hidden tax of inflation. I would also love to hear her explain how she thinks the Patriot Act is constitutional. She talks in wonderful little “conservative” sound bites but so far I’m less than impressed with her deep understanding of our history (economic and constitutional) and what really needs to be done to restore our republic.

I think we are conditioned by the media to settle for talking ken and barbie dolls for presidential candidates from both parties. The only difference between the D‘s and the R’s are the sound bites programmed into their pull-string talk boxes. When compared to the brilliant minds of our early Presidents like Jefferson, Madison, Washington, and Adams, it is shameful how far we’ve fallen. There is one candidate who has the brilliant mind of our Founding Fathers, thoroughly understands our economic system and how to fix it, and doesn’t talk in sound bites. Ron Paul 2012!!!

      Gbmbullets,
First of all – I don‘t listen to any media talkers because I don’t trust any of them to tell me the truth (Fox News and talk radio hosts included). I listen only to the words of the candidates themselves and I look at their actions, personal history and voting records. That’s my point exactly. Other than Ron Paul, I’ve never seen any candidate from either party demonstrate a true in-depth understanding of our economic system throughout our history and the real reasons why we‘re in the mess we’re in and how to fix it.
I’ll bet if I posted quotes from all of the candidates and did not include the source of the quotes, you would be hard pressed to tell which candidates made which quotes. The exception would be Ron Paul – his quotes would stand out because he is not the status quo and he doesn’t speak in sound bites like the rest of the candidates.
If you can link me to an example of Michele Bachmann or any of the other candidates demonstrating a profound understanding of economics, (not just the simple sound bites “stop spending”, “cut taxes” etc.) but fully explaining the Federal Reserve System, how fractional reserve banking led to the fiat currency system and how they are leading us towards hyper-inflation and how to stop them, I would love to see it. While you’re at it if you have a link of Michele Bachmann explaining how the Patriot Act is constitutional, please post that as well
