Bachmann Wishes Elvis a Very Happy Birthday…On the Anniversary of His Death

Michele Bachmann may know a thing or two about politics, but when it comes to celebrity trivia, she’s made some errors worth noting. Back in June, she famously flubbed actor John Wayne’s birthplace. She said:
“I want them to know just like John Wayne is from Waterloo Iowa, that’s the spirit I have too,” Bachmann said. “It’s embracing America. It’s sacrificing for America.”
As we noted back then, that was a mistake:
The actor John Wayne is not from Waterloo. Rather, he was born 150 miles, and nearly three hours, away in Winterset. There was, however, a notorious John Wayne who had some history in Waterloo (although born in Chicago): serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
Now, in what could end up being an even more embarrassing mistake, Bachmann took some time at a campaign stop to wish music legend Elvis Presley a Happy Birthday. The problem? Today — August 16 — is actually the 34th anniversary of his tragic death, not his birth (he was born in January). At a stop in South Carolina, she said:
“Before we get started, let‘s all say ’Happy Birthday’ to Elvis Presley today.
We played you a little bit of Promise Land when we pulled up. You can’t do better than Elvis Presley and we thought we would celebrate his birthday as we get started celebrating taking our country back to work.”
Of course, the cringe-worthy moment was caught on video. Her enthusiasm, which is always a pleasant element when watching the ultra-passionate Bachmann speak, makes her birthday proclamations even more awkward. Watch her “commemorate” the King, below:
Perhaps celebrity trivia should be avoided for the remainder of the campaign season.

There are to many canidates about to come out and announce that they are running for her to stay in the lead. This does not look good however, and I hope it all blows over and is a wake up call to her campaign to get it right.
