Bad Romance? Pawlenty Admits He Likes ‘Talented’ Pro-Gay Singer Lady Gaga

Bad Romance? Pawlenty Admits He Likes Talented Pro Gay Singer Lady GagaConsidering America’s enormous debt ($14,400,378,763,707 as of 1:35 p.m. Eastern), an immigration debate that’s doing anything but simmering, a debt ceiling that’s about to be obliterated and numerous wars, one would assume that Lady Gaga would be the last point of discussion for presidential contenders (okay, maybe that’s a little harsh — politicians are people too, right?).

Yet, today, in Iowa, Republican presidential hopeful T-Paw (also known as Tim Pawlenty) shared his love for the raunchy (not to mention controversial) pop princess. According to The Washington Post, in a video interview with the entertainment web site Glittarazzi, he said:

“Well you know, in terms of the beat, I like ‘Bad Romance. I gotta say, even though she’s a little unusual, ‘Born this Way’ has some appeal. She’s actually very talented. Now if you go to the end of the HBO special, the Lady Gaga HBO special, and you watch her sing a cappella “Born This Way,” she can sing. She can definitely sing. She’s talented.’

Watch his interview with Glittarazzi, below:

Just to backtrack a bit — he’s seen the entire HBO special? Lady Gaga’s take on gay marriage, among other subjects, pits the politician against the songstress (legislatively, anyway). Below, you can watch the video for “Born this Way,” a controversial song that The Blaze covered earlier this year:

(Content Warning: Sexually Explicit)

And let’s not forget her faith-offending hit, “Judas”:

Perhaps most curiously, in defending his liking for Gaga, Pawlenty said:

“If you had to limit your artistic choices to just conservatives, we wouldn’t have a lot of choices…”

The Post also notes that it was Pawlenty and not the interviewers who brought the pop singer up in the first place:

It wouldn’t be a presidential campaign without probing questions from the likes of MTV about inappropriate things like undergarments. But this week, the question came from the candidate himself — former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty — who turned the tables on a team of pop-culture bloggers in Ames, Iowa, by asking them to name their favorite Lady Gaga song.

There’s certainly no problem with politicians bringing up the artists they listen to. But, for a candidate running for the presidency and hoping to win the Republican ticket, why Pawlenty would invoke the name of a woman who, by her very nature, offends millions of conservatives is perplexing.

I’m somewhere to the right of John Wayne, but I still like her music. Does she suck as a person? Yup, but that’s between her and God.

If I hated everyone who made bad choices and did bad things, I’d be living in the woods by myself.

You people need to lighten up.

He’s right. She gets compared to Madonna all the time, but she has more talent, at least at singing.

He’s also right that if conservatives only listened to conservative musicians and only watched conservative actors, our choices would be very limited.

Me, I like Bruce Springsteen. He literally put a cloak on in the concert I saw and talked about the evils of being a Republican. Does this make me happy? Of course not. But are we really so silly that we can’t even contemplate consuming the creative output of people who differ from us ideologically? Can T-Paw not see Lady Gaga as talented, and her music as worth listening to, without sharing her politics?

Oi. This is just a another version of prudery. She’s nuts: granted. But do we really want to become like dishumored Leftists, perennially upset and angry.

Can you not grant him openness and honesty? Are those such undesirable traits?

Talented? Since when does stealing an old Madonna song qualify one as being talented? I’m still not sure Madonna is all that talented, so where does that leave ga ga? Like most pop music of the last two or three decades…pumped up trash. very little music, thought, or talent. I’d like to seee the pop music scene look more like it did in the sixties. When pop MUSIC was made by actual musicians. Not concocted nonsense from a computer program or keyboard. Back when the charts were full of actual songs performed by singers and bands. Just to cite a few examples… Herb Alpert, Burt Bacharach, Tom Jones. Not necessarily the coolest or the most rock-n-roll, but they were capable of creating actual music. I guess it’s just another sign of our rotting culture.

I mostly listen to rock and blues, but I’m willing to admit she has talent. She can sing, play an instrument, and write songs. I admire Herb Alpert, Burt Bacharach and Tom Jones, too, but none of those guys could do all three.

Pawlenty falls into the category I call, ‘naive white guys from the suburbs’ who believe it is their duty to publicly praise the seedy and the edges of society in order to prove how generous and liberal they are. It is a case of political correctness winning over common sense. Mr. Pawlenty may think such statements make him appear a big person: actually they only make him appear silly.

Wow. I was hoping there’d be something more to this, but no. An entire article was written and posted about the musical tastes of someone. It is even more disturbing that this had any impact on some of the people who have already commented.

Anyways, I am going to be a bit un-germane and just post a comment about the new comment system. Basically – it’s horrible. There is absolutely no way to see who’s replying to who, or if they are replying at all. It just encourages people hitting reply to the first comment instead of post so that they can get their comments to the first page. Plus, the amount of effort one must put in just to see if someone responds to your comment is pretty ridiculous. As I said, this doesn’t really relate to the article, but there is nowhere else to see how others feel about this. Plus, this was a pointless article, and I would imagine only those who read through all the articles would click on it.

Pawlenty can say ANYTHING HE WANTS and I believe all the people on this blog believe that to be true. NO ONE is saying he is NOT allowed to say or do anything, BUT, and HERE IT COMES LIBBER, if he wants God’s Spirit to move for him and in him, if he wants conservative Christians to BELIEVE what he says; if he wants us to vote for him, then he had better get his act together and back up what he says. Afterall, ACTIONS DO SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS and he has spoke volumes to us here on The Blaze. So, take your judgmental critique on those of us who SHARE INFORMATION, THOUGHTS, AND INSIGHTS, somewhere else as I doubt anyone will even respond to you but me. And I did because truly, I REALLY FEEL SORRY FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO TRY YOUR BEST TO DESTROY SOMETHING GOOD; TO DECEIVE READERS WITH YOUR LIES AND DECEIT. This is a BLOG – a free thought website that allows us our FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS, SO SAY WHAT YOU WILL – YOU ARE ENTITLED, BUT KNOW THIS, if you really want a good responsible and decent response, get off your high horse, BE INTELLECTUALLY HONEST and we will blog with you in response. Otherwise, go elsewhere because I doubt anyone believes you are anything but a LIBERAL INFILTRATOR trying to stir the pot. FREE speech is always allowed until your Marxist President tries to remove it using his power, which if that happens, be wary of the number of guns that will be purchased in 1 day in America. Enough said?

I believe it means he will not stand for what is moral and right to get votes. Gay men have over 400 lovers in a lifetime according to statistics. One can easily look it up in scientific research. Palenty is desperate. Lady Gag me encourages sexually deviant behaviour, hates God and Palenty needs to get back into the Word. God says that sexual imorality is the worst sin since our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. God says that those who enourage it are just as guilty.
He is a flake. God doesn’t “change” with the culture.

Now hang on just a second. Finding some catchy pop music tune is NOT akin to “serving another master”. True to my Christianity and morality, I find a lot of her lyrics to be offensive (especially that Judas song), but the music itself is benign.

Unfortunately, a lot of todays pop music has bad, immoral and whatnot lyrics. The music tends to be a hook to get you to listen to what they are saying. One can, if careful, and grounded, enjoy the music without paying any attention to the lyrics.

“One can, if careful, and grounded, enjoy the music without paying any attention to the lyrics.”

Uh…no, sorry, you can’t. If one is “careful” and “grounded”, he will flee from things like Lady Gaga. There is nothing redeeming or edifying in any of her songs.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
      Philippians 4:8

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
