    And what right, Mr. Frank, does the Federal Treasury have to TAX AGAIN what has already been taxed only because the principal has died? This fits quite well with the precedent set on our social security benefits which disappear once the recipient passes, rather than crediting that estate with remaining funds.     The largest number of businesses affected are from the agricultural business. In other words, family farms. On paper a farmer can look to be very wealthy when the value of his land and farm equipment is added up. Unfortunately for him his actual spendable is not all that much. But he dies and instead of passing it down to his children a farm that may have been in his family for over 100 years will have to be spent to pay the government. The same goes for small businesses. When the value of the their buildings, inventory, and equipment is included, there goes the business when they die.
    Regardless of how an individual builds his estate, how is it right or fair for the government to step in and take a large chunk of it after for their whole lives the people who built it up to leave to their children have already been paying taxes on it. This is just another example of some of these arrogant blood sucking leaches believe that that money really belongs to the government and we should all be grateful for whatever they decide to let us keep after we have worked for it. They are parasites and should be treated as such.

      Well said Rick. If the Dems want to prevent a family from accumulating too much wealth, how do they explain the Kennedys? And if the Dems/liberals in DC are worried concerned, they should donate their own money to the government when they die on a voluntary basis and leave the rest of us alone.

    They havent done anything to earn it? I challenge this bastard to come to my family farm and work all the years I have and tell me I have not earned it. My family has been farming since they came to this country in the 1800′s and the very farm I live on and work as been worked by each and every generation and it sickens me to hear this pond scum insinuate that I have not earned what is ours.

      my thoughts as well these farm kids have worked hard all their life, plowing the fields, planting crops, bailing hay, hauling hay, tending to the cattle or what ever,hogs maybe but the kids of these farmers have worked hard for it and God Bless the ones that want to stay on the farm or ranch and contiune as their forefathers did, gosh every time i see Barney it makes me want to do more than puke,he is a rich freak and he thinks we all forgot about him having sex with the pages(male pages) few years back and how he got to keep his job is beyond me,he deserves to be in jail

Many small families are developed and grow with the help of the whole family with maybe one person, the patriarch or matriarch as the legal owners. What is happening is an unfair tax on continuing the business. And Barney Frank should be the last one to have a say about family values or the transference of family business from one generation to another.

    Looks like it was removed…anyway, who is he to make that kind of judgement? It’s just like Glenn, Rush, Shawn and the rest say…the people in Washington think that all the money belongs to them, and they are ALLOWING us to keep some of it.

    We need to bring that kind of attitude to a screeching halt. Repeal the 16th & 17th Amendments and put the power back into the States where it belongs!

      And the thing he doesn’t understand, we worked our azzes off trying to build a business and during that time of little money, our children had to sacrifice as much as we did, perhaps more because they couldn’t do all the things other kids did because we spent years counting our pennies to keep our heads above water before the business started making enough money to feel comfortable.       It is double dipping. Our parents have worked all their lives to provide for us, their children, and to be able to leave us something when they die. They have paid all the dues that need to be paid on the estates and there need not be any additional tax thereof. Now, if once I have inherited something, and it is time to pay taxes and I get a property tax bill, then fine, I pay the property tax bill just like my parents would have. Isn’t it bad enough that the relatives have to mourn the loss of a loved one and then get slammed by greedy government, and possibly stand to lose all that their parents worked to build and leave them.

Most of us work hard and save to secure a future for our children and hopefully to leave a legacy to them. That’s what I plan to do. Before I’d leave a fortune to the government, I’d give it away to animal shelters all over the country after I give the allowed amount to family members each year before I die.

      Frank says the heirs didn’t earn the money? I would be willing to debate him on that point. When a father works his entire life to provide for his family he makes sacrifices that the family must endure in order for his success to be realized. The family or the heirs earn that inheritance with their time sacrifice and their support which allows that man to make the money he made. Since the inheritance belongs to the man it therefore belongs to his family.

      Lets see Barny Frank argue with a divorced woman and tell her that she has no right to claim alimony from her ex husband because she didn’t earn the money. Good luck with that Barney.

Hmm…interesting) and you can bet that they are doing their best not to pay their full taxes and to leave the most they can to their heirs. This is all for show so that they can pretend that they actually care for their Democratic constituents. And sadly those constituents believe it! Every generation has worked the land and every darn generation since taxes has nearly gone broke paying the estate taxes on land that our ancestors meant for US — Oh did Congress mean that our ancestors meant to leave the inheritance to the U.S. ??? NO take the dots out congress it’s been left to their chosen inheritors. If a person has wealth and wants to leave it to someone who never set foot on however they made their fortune THAT’S THE INDIVIDUALS BUSINESS NOT THE GOVERNMENTS! My goodness Barney where did you get your education? They certainly didn’t educate you on this countries right to gain wealth and do whatever we want with it!

      It‘s not a tax unless it’s taken from wealth that is created. That wealth that is left over after it has been taxed can be shuffled back and forth at will amongst the Private Sector, because someone in the Private sector created it and owns it. I am free to give my wealth to whomever I wish without the government getting involved – that’s what liberty is.

      And since, after taxes – which are to be used for the benefit of every constituent in the same way, by the way – the wealth is mine, for the government to take more as a so-called tax, is theft. And since “Estate Taxes” are theft, I am well within my Constitutional right to defend my wealth according to the 2nd Amendment.

      Learn your rights, people.

      2.) The deceased, unless they obtained their assets unjustly (which can be resolved in a court of law), sure as heck has earned the right to determine what the estate they spent their lives building will go to.

      I am, by no means, a fan of Media Matters, but this level of discourse is nothing to be proud of. I would challenge most of you “clever” folks to identify something akin to this on MMFA. And I have literally NO COMMON GROUND with MMFA.
      I LOVE THE BLAZE.
      I am disappointed.
      Can we please, PLEASE, keep the discussion relevant to the topic without resorting to the same tactics the progressives play by?

      Here’s an idea;

      Include every family member on the deeds, titles, assets, and all other owner-related paperwork for the family farm/business. Whenever a baby is born in the family, it’s name goes on the deed to the farm/business plus titles, other assets, and the rest of the paperwork.

      That way, there will always be an owner alive. No death penalty.

      Unless the government decides to kill entire family trees, rather than just “prune” them.

      Let me ask you Traitor Frank! What did the Government do to deserve this money! And double dip in it for that matter! Oh yes, we need to hire lawyers to sue for Muslims that want off 3 weeks in the middle of the school year for a vacation! We need to pay politicians to figure out ways to let illegal criminals into our country! We need to pay sanctuary cities to enforce laws that they don’t enforce! We need to pay for foreign nationals to have large numbers of children that become US citizens so we can support them and their 5 kids!

I have zero respect for this man, how could anyone have voted for him? still blows my mind how he could have gotten elected in the first place never mind keep getting elected.       Don’t these people live in the real world? Don’t they know that there is a cost to everything? The heirs of these “rich” people may not have gone out and drawn a paycheck in the traditional sense to earn that money, but they did earn it. They paid their dues. THEY were the ones without a dad at home at night because he was off busting his buns to make a business go. THEY were the ones who didn’t have a Dad at the soccer game or the school concert. THEY were the ones whose mom put them to bed every night because Dad wasn’t there. THEY were the ones that got to know their dad for only a short time before he died.

      And if their Dad as a Farmer, they did go out there and drive the tractor from the age of 12, they moved the irrigation pipe from the time they were 7, etc. etc. Where do these people get off thinking they have ANY CLAIM to that money that “rich” guy earned AND paid income taxes on. That is such BULL.

In this country, I get to do with my wealth whatever I please. He‘s got it in his head that it’s wrong to want to provide for your children later. I work hard for myself, but also to help create a foundation for my kids to stand on, and now he wants to jerk it out from under them? No sir. My wealth, my decision.
