Barney Frank: Supercommittee‘s Failure ’Good News’

As predicted by some analysts, the total failure of the Congressional supercommittee has been greeted by various politicians as “good news.”

One in particular, was happy with the most recent development.

“Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said the congressional supercommittee‘s failure Monday to come to an agreement on spending reforms was ’good news’ because it will help to end the Bush-era tax cuts and give Democrats more bargaining power in budget negotiations,” reports The Hill.

As many Blaze readers are aware, because the supercommittee failed to reach any sort of constructive agreement, $1.2 trillion in automatic spending cuts have been set in motion to take effect in 2013 through sequestration.

However, several “hawks” in Congress are vowing to undo half of the cuts because many of them deeply gouge defense spending. For instance, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) said that he was readying a bill that would prevent the defense cuts.

On the opposite side of the political aisle, Barney Frank, who has always promoted cuts in defense spending, said “that gives Democrats the upper hand,” citing President Obama’s threat Monday to veto attempts to avoid the cuts altogether.

“The people who want to say ‘no’ have more leverage,” Frank said in a telephone interview with the Hill. “Every showdown until now, the right wing had more leverage. They tended to benefit more from gridlock. Now, thanks to sequestration and the expiration of the Bush tax cuts, gridlock is bad for the right wing. So they are now going to be forced to deal.”

Frank said the supercommittee’s inability to produce a plan was not a failure of Congress, but rather a reflection of the country’s “peak divisions.”

So what solution does Frank think is appropriate?

He think that Democrats should offer to extend the Bush tax cuts for the middle class while ending them for the wealthy, because that could then count “as savings against the automatic cuts.”

“And if you don’t like it,” Frank said, “well, then we’ll just sit back, see sequestration and the taxes go up on everybody.”

See Frank explain to Kieth Olberman why the supercommittee’s failure might be the “Democrats gain”:

Of course, going back to the right side of the aisle, conservative radio host personality Rush Limbaugh is absolutely convinced that the supercommittee acted exactly as it was supposed to:

“So the inside-the-Beltway crowd is still wringing its hands today over the fact that there was no budget deal. The super committee failed to come to an agreement, and I’m blue in the face telling you that it behaved exactly as it was supposed to behave,” Limbaugh said on his show on Tuesday.

“It ended up doing exactly what it was supposed to do, and you’re blue in the face hearing it. They were not supposed to come to an agreement. There was not supposed to be any kind of a deal. And, lo and behold, Obama held a five-minute press availability today. What did he do? He went out and blamed the Republicans. Mission accomplished! That was the whole point of this,” he reiterated.

“‘Do-nothing Congress! A super committee that couldn’t even come up with budget cuts and tax increases,‘ that won’t be implemented even ’til 2013,” Limbaugh said. “‘They couldn’t even do that!’ And right on cue, there’s Obama in front of the microphones and the cameras this morning saying, ‘Yep,’ and blaming the Republicans for it.”

The United States spends more on military spending than the next 15 countries combined. Not more than any individual country, but the next 15 combined.

I favor a very strong offensive and defensive position for country. I favor the development of battlefield weapons that are controlled remotely. But I do question how many troops we need in European as Asian countries.

That is our government’s main responsibility, national protection and sovereignty. Instead , we have money in all sorts of bureaucracies. Cut the DEA and the ATF, cut the Federal Education and send that back to the states…ETC… I could go on but it would be a long post to point out all of the crap the government could cut to clear 2 trillion in savings. The states have the power, not the Feds, get all the money out of the central and send it back to the states.

Let’s be very honest here…the Democrats are completely unserious about cutting spending. American voters need to wake up to the fact that the Democrats just don’t want to cut spending – at all – and prefer to massively increase spending instead. They simply don’t believe that trillion dollar deficits are a major problem, and give lip service to cutting the budget because it is poilitically expedient to do so. We saw this plainly when Obama earlier this year proposed to raise government spending by 3 trillion in his faux-budget (voted down unanimously in the democrat held senate no less). Then later, whent he political heat got too hot..chose to posture as a deficit hawk. Liberals believe the deficit will come down on its own when revenues increase as the economy recovers, hence they demand..taxes, taxes taxes. The reality is that projections say that this won’t happen for another 5-7 years at the current rate of growth and by then, the liberals will have spent us into default.

RIVERDOG….I’ve tried to educate on this in the past but in typical liberal idiot style you put your fingers in your ears and cried “la la la I can’t hear you”.
From the Boston Globe: “[...] his fingerprints (Barny Frank) are all over this fiasco (Mortgage Crisis). Time and time again, Frank insisted that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were in good shape.[...] for example, when the Bush administration proposed much tighter regulation of the two companies, Frank was adamant that “these two entities, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are not facing any kind of financial crisis.” When the (Bush) White House warned of “systemic risk for our financial system” unless the mortgage giants were curbed, Frank complained that the administration was more concerned about financial safety than about housing.
I know whatyou’re gonig to bleat next RIVERDOG..”oh yeah? well how could the democrats stop congress from investigationg Fannie and Freddie when for a while the GOP had congress?”. This is where you’re unteachable it seems, because for these matters to go to congress for a vote, they have to go through the committee process, Barney Frank (D) and Chris Dodd (D) as committee members and chairs blocked the measures from going to congress. Congress cannot vote on a measure that doesnt’ reach them. Is that clear or are you just too stupid of a liberal to get it?

Riverdog… Barney Frank was responsible for Fannie May and Freddie Mack loaning money to people who couldn’t afford the houses they were buying. People who were charging off 500 dollar credit cards were getting loans for 150,000 dollar houses that were backed buy yours and my tax dollars. Then when they couldn’t make payment, of which anyone who could read a credit bureau knew they couldn’t pay, the loans defaulted causing the housing market to collapse. Then the economy fell with it. I don’t care if he smokes pot or smokes pole. Him and the Clinton administration made those loans. The loans were defaulted while Bush was in office. Frank opposed the limitations Bush put on the sub-prime loans. So get your facts straight before you open your mouth.

The number one goal of the democratic party is to see the republican party fail. To them, this is more important than seeing the country succeed.

And I have to say I saw this one coming from the start. The “default” fallback if the super committee failed was something the democrats would go for and the republicans wouldn’t: increased taxes, lots of defense cuts. So, of course, it was going to fail. That was the democrats plan all along. And, of course, Obama can now play the “frugal” president and veto any bills that attempt to forestall these defense cuts. The GOP party has been far too naive in this situation.

What he failed to say was the Republicans had plenty to offer but it was the Demoncrates that failed to come to the table. Only one thing wrong though he didn’t blame Bush. Guess he figured that just wouldn’t work anymore. The one thing that might have save the Republicans during the deliberations would have been to simply make public there offers. Then that would have thrown the Lib’s under the bus where they belong for turning them down. But they weren’t smart enough to do that so now Barry has them by the shorts hairs and Barney is gettind his Frank ready to screw any Republican he can. Doesn’t seem fair but the Demoncrates will do anything to win in 2012 even sell their souls if necessary. But there is a bright side to this most American even some in his own party see Barry for what he is. They are willing to say no to another Dance with Obama.

Of course the Super Commitee is going to fail…It’s election year…Congress is going to let the “automatic Cuts” kick in…that way each group can say they didn’t do it, so their “contributors” will still contribute to their cause

Typical response from a (BACKER) of liberal Fecal Blizzard talking points! He just needs to keep his (MOUTH) where it belongs, and you ALL know where I mean! Enough of this (BLOW)hard! He is one of the main causes of this financial meltdown we are experiencing! And should fess up to it,by RESIGNING and paying back ALL the money he made off this tragedy! Barney, take your significant other, and move to San Francisco, and meld with your own kind! Then just disappear! And the world will be a FAR better place, with you and yours GONE!!!!
