Barney Frank’s Words Stricken from Congressional Record Over Personal Attack on Fellow Congressman

Congressman Barney Frank went too far today. While railing against Republicans for allegedly stealing credit for several bills from Democrats, Frank specifically singled out several Republicans for personal criticism.
“Madame Speaker, I yield myself 30 seconds to say I have never seen truth stood on its head more rapidly than by my colleague from Texas. He accused us of being too concerned about credit, and said ‘I and my friends,‘ well I’m proud to say that the Republican member from Arizona, Mr. [David] Schweikert, is someone I consider a friend, and that’s one of the people from whom the credit was stolen. This notion that ‘who cares about the credit,’ if that were honestly what the Republican leadership believed, why did they take the credit from Mr. Schweikert and Mr. [Jim] Himes, and give it to Mr. [Ben] Quayle?” Frank shrieked. “It is they who engage in this credit grabbing!”
Watch the video of the outburst below:
Immediately after Frank’s remarks, Republicans called for the remarks to be “taken down,” which in the House means for them to be stricken from the record. This was agreed to.
Frank’s outburst comes in reference to an accusation by Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) that Rep. Ben Quayle (R-AZ) recently introduced a bill that is effectively the same as Mr. Himes’, only with Quayle’s name on it as the sponsor.

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 12:31pmThe man should be in jail, plain and simple. He has no right to criticize anyone about credit for any reason, or anything to do with funds. This man is the reason for the housing crisis and the economic crisis we’re in. Frank and Dodd should be in jail, nough said!

He didn’t call anyone a slut or whore or claim that they sleep with thousands of men a year.

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 8:27amThis is the best that our new congress can do with this idiot? Frank needs some white collar prison time.
Yankton, South Dakota. “A stand alone federal prison camp,” Ellis says. “A vanishing breed. These are camps that are not satellites to larger more secure institutions. It happens to be a converted college that went defunct. It’s in the middle of the town, not on the outskirts. There is a lot of community programming. People leave during the day and come back at night.”
Englewood, Colorado. “That’s outside of Denver,” Ellis says. “It’s a satellite camp to the federal correction institution there. I’m told by my clients that it is a pretty laid back place.”
Texarkana, Texas. “The federal prison camp there has an drug and alcohol treatment program,” he says. “It has a pond stocked with fish. And one of my clients said he liked to spend his day fishing.”
Sheridan, Oregon. A federal prison camp outside of a medium level security facility about 60 miles from Portland.
Pensacola Naval Base. “You get out during the day, you work on the Naval base, you intermingle with Navy personnel,” Ellis says. “The food is better. You are outside. I’ve had people who were taking care of the grounds at the admiral’s house. The admiral’s wife would bring out lemonade, invite the inmate in for lunch. Things of that sort.”

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 8:27am“If you are Jewish, I would say the federal prison camp at Otisville, New York, about 70 miles from New York City,” Ellis adds. “It has programs for orthodox and religious Jews. It has religious furloughs where people leave the prison for religious holidays.”

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 8:09amAnother sign of the apocalypse: I find myself actually agreeing with Barney Frank.
This is an excellent example of how the party machine promotes and cultivates the “chosen ones” over all the others and gives us the Bushes, Doles, McCains, and Quayles. It is a witches brew of seniority, nepotism, cronyism, and a moderate dose of plain old stupidity threwn in just to throttle our enthusiasm and crush our optimism.

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 11:08amI think you are right. The committee system, who testifies, and the vetting process stinks. Examples of people testifying who have no prejudice or have opinions that are steered into the public light go way back. This is also true in the budget discussions that are years old now. The purpose of the committee system is to get permission for starting or perpetuating bad public policy. Actors, one time victims of the one in a million goof up are paraded before the Senate and House to justify re-fixing what they already broke.
