Baseball Star Josh Hamilton Will Give First Post-Relapse Interview to GBTV on Wednesday

Glenn Beck Announces Josh Hamilton Will Be on GBTV

On his radio show Tuesday morning, Glenn Beck announced that Texas Rangers player Josh Hamilton will have his first sit-down interview on GBTV this Wednesday since publicly relapsing earlier this month. Beck previewed the interview by speaking with Pastor James Robison, who serves as part of the famed baseball player’s spiritual support system. The well-known faith leader will interview Hamilton while filling in for Beck as host of GBTV Thursday night.

For many, despite his ongoing struggles, Hamilton has been an inspiration. “He has been called the number one recovering drug addict in America,” Beck explained, referring to Hamilton. Recently, the famed athlete, who has publicly struggled with drugs and alcohol in the past, has been in the headlines for relapsing and consuming alcohol at a Dallas, Texas, bar.

“I’m so moved by the Josh Hamilton story in the first place because it is a story of redemption,” Beck said. “He lives in my general neighborhood and everybody that I know down in Texas just says he and the family…are just amazing people, just amazing people. And Tania and I were so hurt to hear that he was struggling with alcoholism and, you know, the relapse.”

Beck, who is also a recovering alcoholic, offered up his encouragement to Hamilton, who has been open about the role his Christian faith has played in helping him overcome addiction.

“People who are alcoholics or who have gone through drug rehab are watched by other alcoholics and they are important for us to say ‘If he can make it, I can make it.‘ I don’t know of a single alcoholic who roots for another alcoholic to fall,” Beck explained.

Robison shared his heart and compassion for Hamilton, while discussing some of the challenges the baseball player has faced. Watch the discussion, below:

My heart goes out to Josh. Addiction is a tough thing to deal with, especially in the public light. No one is perfect and I don’t think Josh should be penalized for being human. I think it‘s great that he’s using his faith to get back on track. There are actually a few Christian drug rehab centers that incorporate spirituality like Renewal Christian Care and Sobriety Recovery. I wonder if he‘s considered that option since he’s so religious..

I “turned my life over to god too” and now i’m a good person. Oh and god also told me that everyone who hears my message should send me 20 dollars. Contact Beck for information. Thanks.

I think it’s cool how all these drug addicts hang out together. Maybe they can invite Rush, too, and have a party!

The biggest lie of all is that all people are not deep down inside suicidal, and that’s one of the main reasons people have difficulty dealing with life. Whether it be spiritual suicide or physical suicide people are still suicidal. Even the actions of Jesus Christ in that he did not deny the Father in Heaven, was in fact suicidal because he knew he would be crucified.

Really think about it. Whether it be chasing extreme activities such as sky-diving; or eating large amounts of junk-food; sticking to your beliefs even if people know it’s detrimental; or spiritual suicide by chasing fame and wealth and idols and not chasing the things which matter most. If people would just admit that it would open many doors.

If nearly everything tries to tear down the human body from the minute someone is born into this world, then what makes people think their soul is any different? Perhaps that is why he who conquers will be made a pillar in our Father’s Heaven and he will go no more out. I’m just saying.

Perhaps alcoholics are more spiritual than they really know.

…no big deal…either he straightens up or he doesn’t. couldn’t find this story anywhere else, including SPORTS news on the net. glenny is making this personal to his own struggles…no one else seems to care. hope you get some mileage out of it glenny.

Wow Midwest, you are either out of touch or not a sports fan. This was all over the place and there are many people that care about this story. It is not just a story about a great player who wrecked his life only to be given a second chance. It is also a story about redemption… about trying, failing, and trying again. While this story is more meaningful to those of us who have dealt with addictions or loved (and lost) people who lost the fight, it is also a story that fans all over the baseball world follow. Some because they love the juicy tidbits (and like to see a “big shot” fall) but many of us really do care about this man and his family and have been praying for them for years.

…i get you knobby…and that is very well said. i just think that a man who makes millions playing a “grown-up-kid’s” game should find it easy to deal with life. ultimately, we all have to. maybe he has yet to grow up in some ways that playing baseball will never teach.

I wonder if Glenn is going to push his two books on redemption. I heard him do this when relating Whitney Houstons death to his books on redemption and getting your life back on track. I hope he didn’t mean to do that, but it did bother me watching how he made a comparison of the two. Snow Angel and he mentioned another book. Time for a few road trips, Glenn.

Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me…Hopefully he doesn’t “relapse” again and get behind the steering wheel and hurt somebody. What exactly is he doing when he relapses? Alcohol, coke and hookers? It can’t just be a few beers at home…

IMO calling his shenanigans “relapses” is doing nothing more than covering for a married man who got drunk and cheated on his wife.Simple really. It’s happening all over the USA. Hamilton is obviously not fit to be married, or a role model if he cheats every time he“relapses”.

Josh Hamilton shouldn’t even be playing MLB due to his past, but because of the grace of God and Josh’s freakishly exceptional baseball talent he is playing for the Rangers. My son and I love Josh and we know he will not waste his talent. Keep your head up Josh and we look forward to seeing you play soon.

All this attention just because he plays a ball game. I don’t understand the fascination with sports personalities. It is no different then those who tune into see what the Kardashians are doing this week. :-/

Wrong, like Glenn said, its a story of redemption. To see a person with so much talent fall so hard then make a miraculous comeback is inspiring. The Kardashians dont inpire in any way.

      Who are the Kardashians?
A story about the trails and tribulations of recovery through the Grace of God, can be quite uplifting.
FYI statistically 10% of the American population are afflicted with the disease of Alcoholism.

OH Yea ! Star Trek: the Next Generation. That other alien race.

Having personally recovered from a hopeless state of mind and body through the Grace of God, and maintained sobriety since Nov 13th, 1987 – I still find these stories to be Important; some other person who is LOST in the mires of alcoholism may see the WAY OUT through THIS story.
So ( this is my suggestion) if you do not like this PLEASE say nothing at all.
I do not say this in spite; the person that might find recovery through this story, may possibly value your opinion as well and turn away because of your comments.

You are not responsible for your neighbors problems yet you might give them a hand up some day.

Sorry guys. I’m sure he will inspire people. It is just a shame that it takes some big sports personality to do so. Many others have battled against alcoholism and I would bet that many didn’t start solely because of some well known person. It was because they knew they needed the change.

Josh is fine. He just need to get his mind straight and quit being a coward and getting drunk. Going up to scherlocks and getting wasted then having your team mate come get you is weak. Dallas love there rangers and will forgive you for losing the world series. But not if your some drunk

While i am glad this guy is trying to clena himself up, why shoudl someone get attention for doing the wrong things? There are a ton of baseball players most never heard of that havent been on drugs and i think we shoudl be praising them for doing the right thing. not praising someone who maay start trying to do the right thing. Media is so focused on celeb failings that those who have been on the straight and narrow never get the atttention of those that screw up

I have to agree with you to a degree, while it is somewhat inspiring for this guy to make a comeback I also strongly believe there needs to be more public focus on the good people doing the right stuff day in and day out but sensationalistic drug addict headlines are well sells in this country these days, unfortunately…
