Bashir: Stop Gingrich’s Food Stamp Rhetoric Before Someone Gets Killed

MSNBC host Martin Bashir rarely misses an opportunity to dramatize and string-together current Republican happenings with obscure incidents from the past. Example. On Friday Bashir made the arguably far-fetched comparison linking the murder of a black British teenager in 1993 to Newt Gingrich calling President Obama “the most effective food stamp president in American history.”

Newsbusters reports:

After referencing the killing of Stephen Lawrence and a U.K. inquiry finding institutional racism in the British police force, Bashir played clips of Republicans, including Newt Gingrich saying this: ” President Obama is the most effective food stamp president in American history.” Shamelessly using the murder of a teenager to score political points, Bashir excoriated, “Let’s cut out the food stamps rhetoric right now before things get any worse.”

Just how did the left-leaning Bashir make the leap that food stamp-related rhetoric leads to race-related killing?

Bashir stretched the analogy beyond all logic. He sneered, “[The murder] also showed how political leaders could be responsible for either encouraging better race relations or making matters a whole lot worse by using cheap and nasty slurs.”

The MSNBC anchor continued in his quest to link events that clearly have nothing to do with each other, adding, “But while sticks and stones may break your bones, the public inquiry into the life and death of Stephen Lawrence shows that words can and do cause irreparable damage to a culture and a society.”

MARTIN BASHIR: It’s time now to clear the air. And I wonder if you’ll indulge me just for a moment, because I want to focus our attention on the issue of race as it effects the 2012 campaign by starting overseas. In London’s central criminal court, two men were found guilty on Tuesday for the notorious killing of a black teenager called Stephen Lawrence. Stephen was actually murdered in 1993 at the age of just 18, but it has taken almost exactly the same amount of time to prosecute his killers. Now, there were a number of early police investigations, but they were sloppy, badly handled, and unprofessional. As a result, the British government in 1999, ordered a public inquiry into why, despite all of the evidence the police had, they failed to secure a single prosecution. The inquiry produced a damning report, accusing the police and other agencies of being institutionally racist. It also showed how political leaders could be responsible for either encouraging better race relations or making matters a whole lot worse by using cheap and nasty slurs. Now, listen to some of the things that are being said by these Republican candidates.

NEWT GINGRICH: President Obama is the most effective food stamp president in American history.

RICK SANTORUM: I don’t want to make [blah? black?] people‘s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money, I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money.

BASHIR: There’s nothing subtle about Newt Gingrich or Mr. Santorum. Their comments are clearly targeted at the President, who’s black, and at other members of society, who haven’t made millions of dollars from lobbying. But while sticks and stones may break your bones, the public inquiry into the life and death of Stephen Lawrence shows that words can and do cause irreparable damage to a culture and a society. Newt Gingrich is never going to win the Republican nomination, but he could badly damage race relations in the process. So here is a simple plea: Let’s cut out the food stamps rhetoric right now before things get any worse.

    Hello people, Last year we had a choice between mccain and obamma who was both a part of the new world order. Your kids are in danger. We have come to a time when the kids will not vote and the majority of the voters are against what you think.

    Each 4 years we are up against our country be taken by force and no one will know it until each family is killed, crucified, raped, mamed, taken hostige or taken away for a slave. When the international community is involved it is anarchy on a level only Christ knows.

    Parents: Make sure you know what you are up against. My kids don’t believe me and have no questions. My world has already ended. Family, friend or foe don’t believe we are in danger.

    I have all the confort of life and I am OK with everything.

    I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior and I would like to let everyone know to forgive me of my sins.

It sounds like some strange doomsday comment over Martin Bashir‘s weak attempt at trying to link racism in Europe to America’s Republicans. At least I could understand Bashir, even though his logic is… well, Liberal logic is no logic at all.

      By the way. When did talking about food stamps become a racial slur? My parents aren’t black and they used food stamps back in the seventies when they were struggling. I never thought about race when someone mentioned food stamps or welfare. In fact, I rarely thought about race at all. It only seems to come up when Democrats attack Republicans and businesses. It‘s only recently that I’ve heard food stamps and race as being directly linked. I believe them when they say there is a correlation to minorities being poorer, but they are far from being the only ones struggling. I (almost) paid my own way through college just to find that I would never be able to land a job teaching math because I couldn’t afford the last of the classes. The price skyrocketed beyond affordability. So, I’ll always be poor and always be considered… advantaged?!?!… simply because I’m not black nor Hispanic? I certainly don’t feel advantaged…

      I see the fall coming too. No one will listen to the words of wisdom that comes from the Holy Bible, if they do claim to be a Christian, they have selective Christianity believing in works salvation or that a person is saved by some ceremony performed by their fellow man. If anyone speaks the truth, the are labeled a bigot and troublemaker but when we read the Bible, that’s exactly how Jesus and the Apostles were labeled. If a Christian hasn’t been called a bigot or a nut lately… chances are they haven‘t been speaking God’s Word or witnessing about His salvation! If a Christian finds any common ground with his fellow man, it will only be with those real Christians who have been redeemed and atoned by faith through the blood of Jesus Christ our Lord alone and not some ceremony. When ever anyone speaks of Jesus now, it‘s in the past tense and they don’t realize He lives! Jesus is man’s only hope in this world! Hang in there Dumbwhiteguy.       Oh DumbWhiteGuy it’s all going to happen one day, nothing we can do will change that. From what I been reading we will get taken at the 3.5 year mark of the 7years of peace. The only thing you need to do is help your friends and family find Jesus, buy food and ammo. Now it says he will take care of us that we will be alright…. (You can see his hand a lot if you think about it, if a terrorist had a big truck and drove down the sidewalks of New York how many people would you kill, but it never happens. If a jihadist had an AR and 1200rounds of ammo how many people could he kill but they havent. The attacks that do happen are limited, not as many deaths as one would expect ever.) You have faith that he will protect us but it might be in a way him protecting you through you so get your supplies. Then if you family does not believe does not follow him, tell the future. When night falls on Damascus it will be whole and when the sun rises the next morning it will be no more.(paraphrase Bible) Israel just told them that if one missile hits Tel’ aviv they will level Damascus. Now it is out of your hands, have faith in God and let go, live your life as nothing is coming to pass. It does not matter what time it is we are suppose to live you to the very last day happy and secure, happy with this amazing life we have been given and secure in the love our father gave us. Funny how math works, anyways do you think it’s better to be on welfare or is it better to go get a job. It’s easier to be on welfare that is for sure, but it gives you a crappy life.       Welfare is not designed to be empowering. It’s designed to keep you suppressed within a certain wage range, because as soon as you make one cent above their little margin, they shut it off on you.
      It’s always better to work if you can FIND the work and wage sufficient to survive without welfare, even if it means more than one job.

      I’m really surprised you are aware of those stats, though. Most people argue with me when I tell them those exact same stats. You must do your research like I do. As a percentage of population, there will always be more white people on welfare because there’s more white people in America than black people. Can’t get away from it either, because poverty isn’t going anywhere anytime soon… and blacks are only projected to grow by one or two percent from current population numbers by 2050, while hispanics are projected to increase ridiculously to become the majority.

      you wrote what I’ve been thinking and have been confused about, the establishment the big GOP backers part of the tea party seem to be backing Mitt Romney because of his business experience. The social conservatives are backing Rick Santorum, and the libertarian minded for the most part are backing Ron Paul. Now I know Glenn goes on about Newt Gingrich’s being a progressive they did the same thing for Herman Cain and in 2008 they did the same thing to Sarah Palin. Now my question is why are they putting the hammer down on Newt Gingrich if he is this big member of the Council foreign relations? One would think that they would welcome him so known matter whether Obama wins or he wins they win. Don’t know the truth but it seems that the powers that be are very fearful that Newt Gingrich would win the nomination and therefore the presidency. To me if he was their man you would think they would be pumping a ton of money into his campaign, so the question is to most out there I truly believe that they are scared of Newt Gingrich, like Herman said this country needs bold solutions not just words we got that at the last election. It hurts that we put so many tea party people in office like Nikki Haley and she endorses Mitt Romney go figure.

      I watched Gingrich’s town hall the other day, good positive, ideas based stuff…Chris Matthews was in the audience.
      If Gingrich were a progressive, or even was “out of the race” I seriously doubt Matthews would have been scowling the way he was.
      Gingrich made sense, he was saying “do what has been proven to work” go back through the historical data & implement what has worked in the past.
      “Imitation, not invention”
      He also made the point that the money Obama will have access too will make the gap between his (Obama) record & Romney’s seem razor thin (thus discouraging voters..the why bother there’s no difference attitude)..the way to defeat Obama is to elect someone with whom there is a GULF OF DIFFERENCE, & that’s Gingrich.
      His record with Reagan & through the Clinton years is credible; please don’t buy the propoganda..check the facts.
      The other point that he made, & its a good one, is that “going negative” works (& he was talking about personally negative, not someones public record) but it generates so much ill-will it cripples the POTUS ability to accomplish anything. He sited Bush’s second term & there is certainly some evidence of that.

      Why would anyone think Obama can beat anyone in a debate, last debates, he reminded of my 5 year old arguing for a new toy at Walmart. Sure no matter how much drool rolled down Obama’s chin, the media praised how brilliant he was, but only the truly ignorant bought that.       100% Correct. I am accused of being a political wonk, but my knowledge has come, not out of my choice, but as a necessity to try to keep up with what the MORONS in DC are trying to do next.       Blacks are far from being the only ones to get food stamps, in the 70s any married GI E5 and below stationed in the Washington DC area qualified for food stamps. You saw them being used in the military commisaries all the time.

If I were unethical and amoral, and had a power base that is poor and uneducated, wouldn’t it be in my best interest if I kept them poor and uneducated, hand out small sums to them so they become dependent on me, tell them they deserve much more, but the greedy rich whites stole their money. But if they elect my party we will get that money and give it to them. My party truly cares, the other party’s racist.
      *You would think someone being exploited like that would carry the logical extensions to the inevitable conclusion: Who is truly reaping the benefit by keeping my people down, poor and dependent? Logical extension infers the ones who use me to remain in power.
      Well, the worst part of this hard and bitter truth is the blacks who are bought and sold like it’s 1840.
      Slaves, do-boys, traitors of their own peoples. Jesse Jackson. Al Sharpton. J. Wright. Luis FairyCon.
      And it‘s them and an incredible number of blacks who’re raised as racists. If a white family raised their children up as racists(yes I know some do but if we could find stats I am quite sure the blacks would have a much higher ratio than whites in the learned racist behavior).It’s such a double standard. We got BET, Black Entertainment Television. 100% RACISM!!! What would happen if there was a W.E.T.? Yeah, tell me about it.

    With the state of things as they are right now, ending the welfare programs in this contry would bring too much strife to our unedcated and totally dependent lower class. The progressive agenda has truly come to a head and the fix will never be imposed….never.
    I agree with with glennbeck that our welfare system was designed to entrench the liberals and the needy into a voting block that is nearly undefeatable.

    If they said hillary clinton was going to run as vp, everyone would be falling over themself to vote for her. Our people are so dumb I’ve had to change my name to Dumbwhiteguy. Our own people are going to lead us to our demise and they don’t even realize who is not for the US best intrest.

    People don’t realize we are being set up with a crisis that is going to seperate us from our liberty and freedom in the name of martal law to be invaded by the new world order military.

    The US is now considered a war zone and they have the right to round up you are your family and say you are the terrorist. They will detain you in the fema camps, gas you and creamate you in order to depopulize the world.

    We have come to a point to where we are defensless as far as no one would care if everyone in our country dies or not. Even with the amount of weapons we have, they will be willing to seek out each person with the newest technology that will be used against us.

    People think they are going to sit back and watch, but when they start WW3, they already know how they are going to start and finish this one.

    I’m surprised the enemy is walking our streets. We have about 10 months before we will all know what we need to do. The communist are trusting the socialist and progressive way.
