If you have fifteen minutes to spare, turn up the volume and watch this clip.
The video features composer Eric Whitacre explaining his virtual choir project that brought 2052 voices together from all around the world, via the internet. Also included, video clips of the choir performing.
(We realize that not everyone can spare 15 minutes, if you just want to experience the music, jump to 6:26 for the impressive first effort at the virtual choir and then to the 12:00 mark of the clip for the jaw-dropping, second, even bigger choir.)
Bravo!

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 4:56pmEric Whitacre is in my top five contemporary composers, I sand one his his songs in college and was hooked. If you enjoyed this, check out his website and you can listen to a variety of his music. http://ericwhitacre.com/ I’ve been known to jump around on his site for an hour just listening to stuff. Oce could say that math is an international language, which is true, but it only speaks to our minds. Music is another international language…but it speaks to our hearts and sousl…

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 3:33pm…my finite mind thinks infinite thoughts of angels around the throne of God, where we will one day join in the song of exaltation and praise to our Lord God Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and His only Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who has purchased our salvation by means of the most horrifying death in history, yet never deserving of that death, He took our place by bearing our sins, that we might be the redeemed who will one day sing the song of the redeemed… Holy Spirit now teaches and abides resolutely by our sides, one day and one note at a time, that the heavenly melody of God’s creation would be perfect at that time and place; and all will be at peace in His Presence, singing the new song… oh, that we might live our lives to His Glory, and trust Him to fulfil His promises to us who have been called by His name… Blessed is the name of the Lord! … thank You, O, Lord, for the beauty of melody and harmony… Praise Him for each note, and each individual instrument which He brings together for His joy to be fulfilled in all of us…

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 2:53pmI must agree with Flagwaver and others. This is using the Internet to reach and touch people all over the world and it couldn’t have been done any better. I‘ll never think of the ’Net the same again.

Posted on June 5, 2011 at 11:44pmNice to hear harmony instead of disharmony for a change. They say music soothes the soul. Maybe we need a worldwide singalong to calm things down for a while.

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 3:57amMy goodness! That wasn’t 15 minutes, was it? More like five, it seemed. Enough to put me into another world, away from the corruption in government, the overreaching administration, and the horrors of war being perpetrated by those who would kill for the sake of killing.
There is beauty in this world, a reaching out to others, and a serenity of the mind.
Thank you, Mike Opelka. Thank you sincerely.

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 10:53amBrought tears to my eyes too. Wish I would have known about this. I love singing classical music, but do not have enough power to sustain for very long (therefore cannot join a choir). This would have been the perfect opportunity for me. Maybe he’ll do another.

Posted on June 7, 2011 at 3:02pmI think that goes to prove that people are beautiful and good no matter what the government wants to make us out to be.
It’s not easy to get a tear from “The Tin Man”; but, this did it.
Thousands of people working to make something pure and beautiful; and some poor programers working their tails off to compile it for an awesome piece of work.
Thanks, Blaze for posting this!
