Beck Explains the Difference Between the Left & Right — One Blesses the Flag, the Other Burns It

During his Wednesday morning radio broadcast, Glenn Beck juxtaposed two different stories that have made recent headlines — each of which clearly illustrate the difference between how the Left and the Right view the world, and America in particular.

The first example, featured on The Blaze, detailed how first through fifth grade New York City school students were heckled while singing “God Bless the U.S.A.“ by adults who shouted ”burn in hell!” The second example Beck delved into happened in Oakland, California, where people held an American flag burning while singing “America, F—k you.”

Beck then walked listeners through American history as it relates to the way each side of the political spectrum conduct themselves today:

Here is where I have a big problem with Beck and many others. He is saying the left. As in all people on the left. We all know not all left wing people feel this way. These are extremists, just like the right has extremist. Let’s call these people left extremist and right extremists and not try to lump the whole party into it. WORDS matter.

R’topic is twisted because of party influence. not too long ago Used to be much simpler-Well to do aristocrats > REPUBLICANS. Working man >Democrats. Hijacked parties. So he really was – reagan union buster ‘while lame libs now influence over dem party. More than ever the personal daily dilemma broadens party lines.unions used to be needed. Let me see if I can explain this in plain English to the trolls. There are rhino’s in both partys and neither party is perfect. We also have people as well as Politicians who are either extreme left of center or extreme right of center and are the ones who Glenn speaks of. These are the people who have no problems shouting down children who are just singing a Patriotic song and will go to extremes to shut down their Freedom of Speech. These are children, not adults but is sad to see when these Children are behaving better than the adults are. This is as bad as protesters showing up at a Special Olympic Ceremony shouting down to those who are Special Needs, yet the ones who have Special Needs acted better and had more respect than those who protested the event. Burning the Flag is not only disrespectful but it also disrespects all those who fought and died defending that Flag. If you trolls think this is acceptable behavior to get a message out then you are not part of the solution but part of the problem.

@pudssweetie – you are clear. Unfortunately gb has decided it is more profitable to be vague and condemn the entire left. He is guilty of adding to this huge polarization for his own benefit and that is one reason I cannot take him seriously. This site has become a sideshow with gb as the clown (his word) and I come here for the entertainment value more than anything. GB has made himself irrelevant but he cares not as long as the cheques keep rolling in. Good on you GB for your financial success, you have sold your soul however.

Let me break this down for you Glenn. You already know this but you refuse to share. It is not right-left, it is logic-emotion. Logic comes from patience and rational thought that only emerges through the process of critical evaluation. Emotional thought comes from the initial reactionary response acted upon without critical evaluation. We are all guilt of both at any given time. We are all liberal conservatives.

I only disagree with Beck with sadness and chagrin. Although he is a modern day religious Profit, he’s wrong on this one.

The American flag, the stars and bars, represents all Americans, not just the wealthy like Glenn. The flag also represents people like you too, people who don’t make millionairs of dollars, who might have relatives who couldn’t survive without social security and Medicare and you may even have relatives who have survived only because our country was willing to support and help you them get thought the bad times. I wonder how your parents, or grandparents would be doing without Social Security and Medicare? Were they just lazy bums who should now be learning the lesson to save enough to live 20 years after they retire? Seriously, your relatives were too stupid and shortsighted to save enough to live for a couple of decades with no income and without Social Security? Of course, because you’re voting Republican, YOU will save enough money to live for 20 years on your savings after you can’t work. Cause you’re really smart.

The difference in Democrats and Republicans? Here ya go:

A wise old man once told me how he viewed the difference between republicans and democrats. His example was if you were in the middle of a lake and and needed help, a republican would throw a rope half way to you, expect you to swim halfway to the rope, then pull you to shore.

A democrat would throw you twice a much rope as you needed then would lay the rope down on the ground and walk away.

      @JZS,
Thank you for calling my Parents and Grandparents stupid. I think you are the one who is stupid for making the comment you did. My Grandparents survived just fine without getting any hand outs from the Government. They did not want SS, but was forced to get it and what they did get was little and really did not need it. My Grandparents always paid in cash for their medical needs and did not need Medicare forced onto them. My Parents planed way ahead as well and never planned on using SS or Medicare as their only retirement option. They worked hard and saved up money even though my Dad did get a decent pension he still planned ahead and built up a nice nest egg for him and my Mom. The point is people can and have survived without the intrusion of our Government.
As for your little Bible Verse, if you look again, it means We The People are the ones who should be helping thise who are less fortunate, not the Government.

After Obama is removed from office in November, real Americans will return our country back to a god fearing, Constitution loving, Shining city on the hill that it once was…………They are very afraid, and they should be, because they have exposed themselves as to who they truely are……….See you at the voteing booth November 6th ;)

It is important to get information from all types of venues. Nothing is gained from speaking with people who only agree with you. Political discourse works through the exchange of ideas. You should be open to people who are interested in honest, open, and informed political action. I hope that everyone here is a responsible enough American to want to be informed about all of their countryman’s beliefs.

I have heard from those who promote alternative life styles; I am not convinced.

I have from heard those who are for gun control; I am not convinced.

Personal politics aside, this type of “us vs. them” mentality and rhetoric is irresponsible. The political spectrum is not black and white, nor is it even one dimensional. Calling people who do not hold your safe beliefs “enemies” gets ratings and riles people up emotionally, but will never get anyone closer to any real solutions.

Wisdom. I’m personally a pretty liberal guy. All I refer to when I say that, is my lifestyle choice. I think that that’s what most Americans mean when they use the words liberal and conservative. When we fight each other over whether or not we’re liberal or conservative… we’re fighting each other over lifestyle choice. That’s pure stupidity. Sure there are idiots out there, ALL over the place. But you have to take them as just that. Idiots… We, as individuals, need to stop assuming so much about people and dividing OURSELVES, and start taking each other at individual value. Btw, just because I say “liberal”, doesn‘t mean I’m a democrat. I’m actually a proud anarcho-capitalist.

@Git-R-Done: False. Those that grow up without a PARENTAL figure are much more likely to develop psychopathy, commit crimes, and support a cradle to grave welfare state. Parental does not necessarily imply authoritative, because authoritative implies that a person knows everything and therefore should be TRUSTED, rather than questioned. In other words, everything this figure says is gold, in other words don’t teach how to think, instead teach what to think. Which is why our country, imo, is pretty screwy. “Parental” simply means caretaker.

Mormons don’t believe in communism. Communism is where the government forces a distribution of wealth. The Book of Mormon’s only related reference to your post is 3 Nephi 26:19

19 And they taught, and did minister one to another; and they had all things common among them, every man dealing justly, one with another.

It’s not communism when it is voluntary and one can leave at any time. Communism is evil because it takes away man’s free agency

the founders invented liberalism progressivism and socialism…

And they did kill conservatives they were traitors rarw they ran them out of the country burned their buisiness and houses down…

thats what they did way back-in 1776

And they also hated dominionist christians—

      the founders loathed conservativism
      the puritans fled from it-
      the pilgrims hated it-
america was founded as a socialist country..

Reagan stole his city on the hill speech from the puritans- which were socialists..

but you all are losers who are going to get yours soon

conservatives are the enemy of the republic…

Socialism.sucks – The Founders loved capitalism, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, right to bare arms, and private property rights while you lefties hate all of those things. So don’t pretend that you have anything in common with the Founding Fathers.

Git-R-done- about the only thing out of that list that the conservatives love is capitalism. They hate freedom of speech, proven by the fact that they want to restrict any expression that they disagree with (see the original posts on this thread). They hate freedom of religion and don’t want to acknowledge or show respect for anything but their own hard line Christianity. Bearing arms is something that they claim to love, but are more than willing to restrict it to people that are of the same mind as they are. And they will not hesitate to take private property and give it to corporations, if there is money to be made from it. You can complain about the left all you want, and I would agree with you, but don’t get any ideas that the right is any bettter, or more in favor of freedom. Look at all the assaults of the 4th Amendment being pushed by the conservatives in their zeal to “protect us”.

Right on to Brother Winston Smith and Reallibertarian. The lesser of two evils is still moving the country down the path of evil, just slightly slower than the greater of two evils. Not something to be proud of. And the pledge of allegiance is a socialist idea! How about that. Bet you didn’t know that, did you?

@RealLibertarian: Oh yeah! And about the conservatives loving capitalism, that’s barely even true. They love the crony/corporate side of it, but hate the pure, voluntary, mutually beneficial side of capitalism that is between two parties.
