Beck on Israel: ‘Never’ Ever Call Judea and Samaria the ‘West Bank’

  • Glenn Beck responds to an interview given by Huffington Post contributor Frank Schaeffer to MSNBC’s Martin Bashir in which Schaeffer laments “faith-based politics” citing Israel perpetuates such politics.
  • Schaeffer asserts Israeli “settlers” in West Bank are “jeopardizing world peace”
  • Israel National News covers Glenn’s explanation as to why Judea and Samaria must never be referred to as “West Bank”
  • Glenn asserts the term “West Bank” is an attempt by the Arab world to link Judea and Samaria to Jordan
  • Glenn says the term “West Bank” erases the Jewish historical link to Judea and Samaria and is an attempt to wash away its “Jewishness”
  • Glenn points out there is no such thing as “indigenous Palestinians”

Arutz Sheva reports:

American talk show host Glenn Beck explained to his audience on Friday why Judea and Samaria should not be referred to as the West Bank, as the Arabs and mainstream media customarily do.

Beck made his comments in response to an interview given by Huffington Post contributor Frank Schaeffer to MSNBC’s Martin Bashir.

The interview dealt with the influence of religion on politics, and Schaeffer said that he believes such an influence exists, saying, “I think that the faith based politics is an immensely destructive thing. What do you think Iran, Saudi Arabia, or the settlers in the West Bank of Israel, who refuse to move and are jeopardizing world peace, are about? This is faith-based politics. We want reason-based politics.”

The staunchly pro-Israel Beck, who played the clip on his show, said: “Does anybody know why they call it the West Bank? Technically, what is the West Bank? I don’t think anybody in America knows.

….

The term West Bank dates from the establishment of the kingdom of Jordan on the east bank of the Jordan in 1922. It refers to Judea and Samaria by their location on the west bank of the Jordan River and is an attempt by the Arab world to link them to Jordan, although they were originally slated to be part of the state of Israel. Jordan has given up all demands for Judea and Samaria, which it occupied from 1949-1967, when they were united with Israel after Jordan attacked the Jewish state in the Six Day War.

….

“They [the Arabs] are really really brilliant,” added Beck. “This is really being played very well…There’s no history of Palestinians [in that area]. You know what Palestine is named after? The Philistines. There were the Philistines. That’s why they came up with the name Palestine later.”

The Philistines were a warlike, sea people whose origins may have been Minoa, an island off Greece, and who lived on the southern coast of Israel, far from Judea and Samaria, during the time of the Bible after their attack on Egypt failed. They were the Jews’ worst enemy during the time of the Judges and Kings, but were absorbed into conquering empires and disappeared as a distinct people by the 5th century B.C.E.

Listen to Glenn slam Schaeffer’s comments and deliver his own thought-provoking comments about the history Judea and Samaria below:

    The History of Palestine
Palestine; The land of the Prophets. Rich in history – the history of generations of believers who
lived and worshipped, and fought and died there, praising their Lord and defending their faith.
Nearly 4,000 years ago the Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, stopped in the land of
Cannan. He was a true believer, one pure of faith. He surrendered his will to God alone, with no
    associates.
From his sons Ishmael and Isaac came two great nations of believers. The descendants of
Abraham – two rivers from a single sea. But the nearest to Abraham were those who most closely
    followed his way.
Six centuries later the Prophet Moses, peace be upon him, revived his teachings and led his
people, descendants of Isaac, out of Egypt. Their destination? Palestine, the Land of Canaan.
Two more centuries and the Prophet David, peace be upon him, united the scattered tribes of
Israel. He took Jerusalem for his capital. It is said that he brought with him the ark of the
    coveneant.
The Prophet Solomon, peace be upon him, inherited the Kingdom from David, and built
fortifications, and a place of worship; a place of worship on a site revered since ancient times, a
    hill known as Moriah.
The Kingdom split into two in the struggle for power following Solomon’s death; Israel to the North
and tiny Judah, including Jerusalem to the South.
After two hundred years of bitter rivalry between these two kingdoms, Israel was conquered by
    the Syrians and Judah

If God gave it to Abraham and Ishmael was not part of that promised land it belongs to the Jews. Why don’t the Phillistines live with their other Arab brothers. Could it be the true purpose of the Palestian group is to comletely destroy Israel. I think you will find that this is the truth not the lets live together but lets us destroy Israel just read the Muslim Holy books and you will learn.

Sorry, Glenn, but Judaea and Samaria were not originally “slated to be part of the State of Israel.”

Right down to 1948, the British, the US and other “powers,” the League of Nations and its successor the UN, understood that the areas west of the Jordan would ultimately be partitioned between a Jewish and an Arab state.

The area we now call the West Bank was indeed “Judaea and Samaria” in ancient times, but in modern times it had hardly any Jewish population, except in Jerusalem, and early Zionist pioneers mostly settled in the coastal plain or in the Valley of Jezreel and Galilee.

The UN partition gave Israel all the way to the Jordan River. In 1948 the Arabs (Jordan) fought Israel to a stand still at what we now call the West Bank. Jordan occupied that territory until it wanted more territory to the “West Bank” in 1967 Jordan along with other Arab invaders launched an INVASION on Israel. During this confrontation with the Arab instigated invasion, Israel gained land in military action. This gain is called the West Bank / Judea Samaria.

Arabs were not called Palestinians until King Husein kicked Arafat and his rabble rouser’s out of Jordan in early 1970s.

The Arabs made a gamble with the land of the West Bank and lost.

OK, so here’s a real historical fact – the Jews supported the Muslims against the Byzantine (Christian) forces in the 7th Century. Look up any history of Heraclius the Byzantine Emperor and the conquest of Syria and Palestine. Of course the inhabitants at that time weren’t Muslim – they were Eastern Orthodox Christians, but do you think they all suddenly disappeared to be replaced by Muslims? It’s as ridiculous as saying “well the Egyptians weren‘t Muslims so they can’t have a claim to Egypt”.

Marybethelizabeth, read Samuel Clemens’ (Mark Twain’s) account of the area during his travels: a desolate place full of rocks. Yes, there were some people there during the past 2000 years… a Jewish remnant and a roughly equal number of others (Turks and Arab governors); the rest were largely nomadic. The land began to “bloom” when the nationalists began to return over the past 100 years or so, and as it started to become prosperous by the 1920′s, Arabs from neighboring countries arrived to find jobs. The “indigenous Palestinians” mostly can trace their claim to the land for less than 100 years – for 60 of that, Israel was a nation. I‘m afraid you are another casualty of America’s lacking educational system.

      Encinom,
Your knowledge of history is terribly lacking. It is not a myth that the Jews inhabited Israel way, way back before the time of Jesus. It is one thing to disagree with Christian doctrine or belief in God, but quite another to distort or be ignorant of historical reality regarding who lived in that land. No credible historian agrees with you. Of course, all jihadist Muslims such as the leader of Iran agree with you. He also denies the Jewish Holocaust in Germany actually happened. But as to who gave the Jews that land in the 20th century, it was the Brits. If you are unaware, the reason was because Hitler killed millions of Jews and because prior to that for centuries, Jews had been harrassed, persecuted, and tormented throughout Europe. Seems only right that they should be given a place where that would not longer occur, but of course the Muslim nations are continuing those actions against the Jews to the present time. And stupid, uninformed liberal Americans and Western Europeans go along with them.

There are NO such people as “Palestinians!” They simply don’t exist! After TransJordan lost the ‘67 war, it ceded its “West Bank” territory to Israel in order to wash its hands of the rabble who lived there. These “desert rat” Arabs were a thorn in Jordan‘s side for decades and Jordan used the ’67 war as cover for getting rid of their problem.

The only “Palestinian problem” is that Muslims are using this trumped-up argument to attack Israel, physically and politically.

Think about it: when was the last time that you heard Israel say that it wanted to destroy its Muslim neighbors? EVER? The answer, of course, is “never.” If the Moozies would lay down their arms, there would be peace. If Israel did the same there would be no Israel. Need proof? Every single time Israel has ceded land in a “peace” deal, it has been rewarded with rocket attacks from the land it just gave up. Gaza anyone?

Moses leads them out, they went HOME,to Israel.further civilized the land w/schools,temples,shops-not tribal backward nuts, like surrounding cultures (Philistines) -and you would figure since Obama(via his father)& those against imperialism /colonization would empathize with the Jews since they have NEVER SOUGHT OTHERS land, but constantly had to fight for their own, just to live in peace-where are all the anti-colonialists defending JEWS always being run over in THEIR OWN LAND in Israel,i.e diaspora ok for Jews, kick em out of home country since 2000 b.c,AND THEN COMPLAIN WHEN THEY WANT TO GO BACK HOME..but kick Native Americans,Mexicans(out of illegally entering),black Africans,Muslims(out of Europe),thats evil white imperialism-that is definition of hypcrisy-it’s like if I let my brother move in to part of my house-I go away for month-I get home & brother says, you were gone for too long, its mine now(no,Abraham/Isaac have title)

Although the terms Philistine and Palestine are related, the idea that Palestine is a new invention is ludicrous. It has been known as such for over 2,500 years. In the 5th century BC, Herodotus wrote in Ancient Greek of a ‘district of Syria, called Palaistinê”. There are many other mentions up to and including the 2 divisions of Palestine under the Byzantine Empire and of course it was resurrected as a name when the British defeated the Turkish Empire in the First World War. The “West Bank” is a geographic description. This is just another desperate attempt by Beck to get some attention. Hopefully the Israelis will ignore him and his tour. I do tend to agree with Shaman World – there is no evidence for a King David or King Solomon (anymore than there is for King Arthur).

There is no historical record of King David(fake) or most of the “history” of the ancient Hebrews. They were nothing more than wannabe Pharoahs(children of God). Any of the real history in the bible is thanks to the record-keeping of the ancient Egyptians who were meticulous scribes. Look at who is in control of things. Take the blinders off.

Anti-Christ (Satan) comes in peacably and prosperously. Every one will worship him thinking that he is their Messiah in what ever form they worship. He is supernatural. Ok I won’t call it the west bank.

But you stop calling Abraham the first Jew.

The term did not exist during his time. Jew simply means someone of the tribe of Judah or a resident of the land of Judea. You can be a Jew and have no Israelite heritage.

Second. Stop trying to fit Israel (the true seed) all 13 tribes into that little country called Israel. It does not work. The Abrahamic covenent and blessings fall to the people who are true Israelites. Though they lost their identity, God knows who they are.

Third, stop with the multi-cultural multi-faith stuff. Christ is the only way period. True Christianity, not a corrupted version of it.

Fourth, know the key of David. If you don’t know it, you will be decieved. Read Revelations chapters 2 and 3. About the 7 churches. Those are Christian Churches. Only 2 made it. Only 2 God did not have fault with. Smyrna and Philadelphia. Mainly Rev. 2:9 and 3:9. They had the truth.

Fifth, learn the parable of the fig tree. The good and bad figs were planted in 1948. The final generation. Planted in the place where Glenn is focusing on.

Sixth, It is good to focus on Jerusalem, it is where the Anti-Christ will show up. Mainly the temple mount. Watch.

If you read the Bible carefully, I think you will find that the “Jews” (men of Judah) were a remnant of what was once a larger “Israel,” defined by its covenant with God at Sinai, and that Israel in turn was just one of several “Hebrew” nations that arose out of the wreck of the empires of the Late Bronze Age in that region, others being Ammonites, Edomites, Moabites, etc., all at least notional descendant of “Eber.”

It’s another question, of course, how much of this prior to maybe the 8th century BC corresponds to actual history.

You’re right. BC is before Christ being born, and AD means “in the year of the Lord”. That’s how important this person we all call Jesus Christ is to the World. We measure time by his birth! The majority of the World measures time from the time of his birth!

It has been 2,011 years since Jesus Christ was born. The Jews measure time differently because they don’t believe that Jesus Christ was the Messiah. (Strangely, there are “Jews for Jesus”, that I really don’t understand, because that would make them Christians.)

There are tons of sects of Christians. I’m a Catholic, and I believe that the Catholic Church is the only “true” Christian Church. I’m sure that Christians, who are not Catholic will disagree with me. This doesn’t bother me in the least, because I truly believe in the Church that Jesus Christ established.

Lutheranism was established by Martin Luther because he refused to believe in the infallibility of the Pope on religious matters.

The Church of the Latter Day Saints, or Mormons, was established by Joseph Smith. He claimed that an angel directed him to establish this Church (this happened in upper State New York). Originally, Mormon men were allowed to have multiple wives. This is mostly rejected in current times, but still happens . There so many different Christian sects. Holy Rollers, Baptist, Presbyterians, Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, Lutherans, Evangelical, Black Social Justice Theology, Catholic, and so on.

Jews for Jesus technically are Christians, but they are called that because they are ethnically Jewish, not religiously. One can convert to being Jewish, but you can’t change your heritage. The Bible says that the Jews are his chosen people and there will always be a remnent. The Jews for Jesus (and I believe there’s another group, but can’t remember their name) are that remnent. They will be going to heaven, while those Jews that don’t believe in Jesus, sadly, won’t. That’s why I support Jews for Jesus so they can convert more.

      @ Circledwagons:
Paul tells us: “For [God] will reward every man according to his works: to those who by perseverance in working good seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. There will be . . . glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality” (Rom. 2:6–11; cf. Gal. 6:6–10).

In the second century, the technical Latin term for “merit” was introduced as a synonym for the Greek word for “reward.” Thus merit and reward are two sides of the same coin.

Protestants often misunderstand the Catholic teaching on merit, thinking that Catholics believe that one must do good works to come to God and be saved. This is exactly the opposite of what the Church teaches. The Council of Trent stressed: “[N]one of those things which precede justification, whether faith or works, merit the grace of justification; for if it is by grace, it is not now by works; otherwise, as the Apostle [Paul] says, grace is no more grace” (Decree on Justification 8, citing Rom. 11:6).

The Catholic Church teaches only Christ is capable of meriting in the strict sense—mere man cannot (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2007). The most merit humans can have is condign—when, under the impetus of God’s grace, they perform acts which please him and which he has promised to reward (Rom. 2:6–11, Gal. 6:6–10). Thus God’s grace and his promise form the foundation for all human merit (CCC 2008)

      Posted on August 2, 2011 at 9:31am

(Cont’d)…Virtually all of this is agreed to by Protestants, who recognize that, under the impetus of God’s grace, Christians do perform acts which are pleasing to God and which God has promised to reward, meaning that they fit the definition of merit. When faced with this, Protestants are forced to admit the truth of the Catholic position—although, contrary to Paul’s command (2 Tim. 2:14), they may still dispute the terminology.

Thus the Lutheran Book of Concord admits: “We are not putting forward an empty quibble about the term ‘reward.’ . . . We grant that eternal life is a reward because it is something that is owed—not because of our merits [in the strict sense] but because of the promise [of God]. We have shown above that justification is strictly a gift of God; it is a thing promised. To this gift the promise of eternal life has been added” (p. 162).

After a war with ancient Israelites which the Philistines won, they captured the Ark and put it in the temple of their god(s) only to find that their gods were destroyed overnight. While the ark resided in the first Philistine city, many developed “tumors” (uncertain origin), and when the Ark (where the Lord’s Spirit on earth resided is Israel during this period of history), was moved to other cities these maladies repeated themselves.

The Philistines were happy to “get rid” of the Ark by returning it to the Israelites! It is said that the Israelites deserved to be taken captive, but that God allowed “Himself” to be captured for a variety of reasons directed at the Philistines and at the Israelites. (Condensed from I Samuel 5)

the name palestine was given by the Romans to the land and the arabs that were left after Rome scattered the Judeans across italy and eruope. This was done after the Jews rebelled against Rome, Rome sent Titus to conquer the jews and make them submit. and thus the siege of jerusalem started in 70 ad.
Rome tired of the uprising burned the temple to the ground, so all thats left is the wailing wall, and scattered the Jews and salted the earth so that nothing would grow there. “Sulpicius Severus (363–420), referring in his Chronica to an earlier writing by Tacitus (56–117), claimed that Titus favored destroying the Jerusalem Temple to help uproot and demolish the Jewish people.”
