Beck on Schultz Suspension: Leave Him on the Air to Destroy Progressivism

Earlier today, Laura Ingraham issued a radio response to Ed Schultz’s much-covered apology. Now, Glenn Beck weighs in and mirrors her statements, calling Schultz’s comments “sincere,” but questioning why MSNBC chose to punish the commentator. Beck said:

“First of all, what makes this really different than many of the other things that he has said? He has said really vile things before. He has called people all kinds of nasty names before. Why, why this particular word? Is it that this is just politically more sensitive than the other things that he has said? This is not out of his pattern of behavior at any point.”

Beck further explains, with a few hints of sarcasm, why he “opposes” Schultz’s suspension, stating that it isn’t right to shut down free speech. After all, why not unleash the liberal ideologue and simply allow him to verbally destroy the leftist movement he represents? Beck says he would rather see MSNBC allow Schultz to speak freely to accomplish the aforementioned goal:

“Let Ed Schultz, let all of that anger and that rage and everything else just spill over all the time. Let the name‑calling and the union thuggery, let it just be out. Show it,” Glenn said. “Look at the ratings. Nobody wants to join that party. It doesn’t sound like a fun party.”

“I don’t have any intention of trying to shut [the progressives] down. We can win the argument.”

    The “Ladies” on the View have already excused him for this. Calling a woman a slut is okay… but call a Radical Muslim a Terrorist… How Dare You Say Such A Thing!

    NOW doesn‘t care because it was said about a Conservative woman and they can’t waste their time “Protecting” the women on the Right… just the Left. The Left always says such vile things which the Right doesn’t say, so NOW can spend their time Lobbying for more Socialist programs. If NOW were to “Protect” the dignity of all women from the vile speech from the Left… they would never be able to get anything else done. Besides, the people they would have to attack for the vile speech are the same people they hold up as being model citizens.

    Schultz is a nobody who is trying to become a somebody but doesn’t have the talent to make the transition.

    Divided States Of America, I have never imagined that our country would ever become so divided. I stood in protest on October 15th 1968 against the Vietnam war and thought of nothing but what my brother was fighting for, I thought the country was divided then. Now our country has been divided by the administration, with ill will, to gain power and seek out ways to control everyone by way of “martial law”, sieze our weapons and dictate what we hear, say and believe. May God help us all, Amen.

    I agree with Beck as for letting Schultz and all the rest that have totally destroyed their selves by their rhetoric. They were hired to do this very thing. But I think that if they hadn’t have suspended him, he would have done something worse the next time. These leftist media stations don’t really care as long as their anchors slander any conservative. But what he said was personal and he could be liable to suit for that along with the losing media he works for allowing him to do it without some type of penalty.

    I sometimes like to watch his show, and some of msnbc’s others. Not because I agree with them, but to better strengthen my own opinions, as well as get a taste (albeit bitter one) of what America would be like w/out Fox News.

    Well, I, for one, do not for a second think it was sincere – but that’s my opinion only — I don’t know his “heart” when he said it but there’s nothing wrong with making a “judgement” going on his past actions and words that he continually spouts….the “odds” are that he wasn’t. However, I do see what Glenn is saying about letting him rant. But don’t know if I agree with that. Like someone said, most people who watch it (check out Huffington Post) agree & love whatever he says & just makes them feel more comfortable about their idiotic beliefs. Also don’t think it wrong they “disciplined” him – they are his employer and have rights I would think to do that if they want. I don’t know what it said in his “contract” about this. But yes, Laura is not surprised and has handled this kind of stuff forever & realizes it’s part of the “job

      Ed says he is suspended for,,,,, NOT, more like he is taking a long Memorial Day weekend, his site says he will be back on Tuesday.
      If I’m not mistaken, but when Don Imus called the Rutgers women basketball team ” nappy head Hoe’s” he got fired a week later. but they praise this misogynist and give him a slap on the wrest. if your going to suspend someone, then make them feel the consequences. Fire Them!!!!!

      I live within shouting distance of where “Mr. Ed” went to college. Moorhead State (Minnesota) was the site of this man’s ONLY “higher education” experience beyond high school. And he barely made it through…thanks to a lot of tutoring help and a “wink, “wink” lending hand form the football coach.

      Schultz cheated on his first wife…with his now second wife. “Mr. Ed“ claims that the second wife helped him to see the light of political ”progressivism.”

      Is it just me….or….does he REALLY seem sorry?
      Are my feet really this cold, or has has hell REALLY frozen over?

      That being said, i have no idea what in hell he is apologising for. “right wing slut’ would seem to infer that she goes gaga over uber right wing issues, and although i somewhat disagree, it seems appropriate in Ed’s radio show and apropo with his extreme talking points. And I really don’t see why he is being admonished at all.
      I say this is typical PC BS, and MSDNC should let him be and say what he wants on his radio show. This smacks too close to the fairness doctrine, and Ed’s first amendment rights to voice his opinion, in MY opinion, are being violated.

      Gosh dangit, I believe I just stood up for that rediculous mass of vehemence and hatred.

      The Blaze is HARDLY a perfect demographic sample for America. As for the mainstream media, the median age of viewers (by which I mean corporate owned news firms, MSNBC, FOX (sorry but Fox is, sadly, mainstream) and CNN) is somewhere around 50 (obviously it varies, and it decreases to ~30 near prime time for that block of time). My point is that, actually, almost no one in America watches ANY of the major news networks that conservative gripe about (or the one the conservatives love)–most people get their news from online sources or local media. And for Leftists, who are by and large younger, that’s even more true.

What I‘m saying is that young people in America don’t have the knee jerk fear of Socialism and are willing to actually engage in intellectual debate. Furthermore, they generally don’t base their morality on arbitrary thousand year old appeals to authority, but on pragmatic and consequential considerations. As they ascend to political power, and the older generation dies off (as people are wont to do), we will become more liberal.
