Beck Reacts to Gingrich Calling His Criticism ‘Bologna’: ‘The Audio Speaks for Itself’

Glenn Beck has regularly said during this election season that Newt Gingrich is a big-government, progressive Republican. One of the many pieces of evidence he uses to support his claim is that Gingrich has praised Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt as great presidents and great politicians. He’s even called himself a type of “Wilsonian,” a reference to Woodrow Wilson. But on a radio show in Florida Monday morning, Gingrich called that claim “bologna.”
“I don‘t know what Glenn Beck’s problem is, but he obviously has never read my writing,” he told 970 WFLA’s Jack and Ted. “I’ve written three novels about George Washington, four novels that involve Abraham Lincoln.”
He went on to call Washington the “greatest” American president and Lincoln the second greatest. As for FDR, “If you measure his World War II achievements, FDR is an extraordinary leader.” He noted that he disagrees with FDR’s liberal policies, such as the New Deal.
You can listen to that interview below (the Gingrich and Beck talk starts at the beginning) and get a transcript over at Glennbeck.com:
When Beck heard that interview, he couldn’t believe it. In fact, played the audio of Gingrich praising some of the controversial presidents.
“The audio speaks for itself,” Beck said before playing it:
Later, he even went on to say the Gingrich was “lying” to voters, and said that he will be inviting Gingrich back on to his radio program for another interview so that he can explain the contradictory audio.
The Blaze’s Billy Hallowell contributed to this report.

In a debate, he will destroy Obama. Romney reminds of McCain, and we see how that went.
Newt was much of the brains behind holding Clinton at bay back in the 90s with his pact with America.
Once again, Newt is not my favorite. I would much rather have Demint, JC Watts, heck, I would vote for Tim Tebow. I will not vote for Romney though.

I hope the black community is waking up to the destructive progressive / liberal policies and how Obama has put this destruction on steroids not just on the black community but the nation. If this becomes a growing trend, Santorum will do something that no one has been able to accomplish, initiate the trend of black conservative voters in large numbers. The irony would be that the voting sector that put Obama in office would be the same one that drives him out.

Sorry for the comparison, but it is very true, saying exactly what people want to hear but having no practical way based in reality, just like the intellectual elites of the left- They have no plan on really doing it, it is just an articulated answer for when being challenged and also serves as mean to turn the argument back on he opposes him. Newt will always blame everybody, well, that is, except the people that listen to him, because “you” aren’t one of them.It is just everybody else who doesn’t support him. Seriously, these are socio-paths we have as congressmen and senators. Seems after Obama, the republicans want one as president for themselves. Makes me want to puke. What do you see different between Newt Romney? I seem them as the same, progressive.
I can’t vote for either Romney or Newt, neither have integrity, honor, or consistency and both have flip flopped more than a fish out of water. Both are too much like Obama.
With that said, Santorum isn’t any better. He has lobbyist ties and believes in Government intervention in social areas which is progressive as well as his progressive foreign policy.
Newt Romney Santorum is nothing but a progressive party. All 3 are progressives and just differ on how Government will intervene/dictate our lives and only differ with Obama on how Government will intervene in our life. None of the mentioned above want to take Government out of individual lives and reduce Government.
Newt Romney Santorum will more of the same.

Wow! Here is just a brief list of Newt’s flip flops.
Newt Flip Flops
-For cap n trade, now against it
-For mandated health insurance, now against it
-For treating terrorists like criminal, now against it
-For “Cost saving end of life treatments, now against it
-For foreign aid, now against it
-Ignored withdrawal from UN bill as speaker, now for it
-Ignored bill to audit Fed as speaker, now for it
-Supports a North American Union with Canada and Mexico
-Wants to “fundamentally transform the Government”
-Took millions from Freddie/Frannie that destroyed the country!
-Only Speaker to ever be disciplined for ethics violations
Newt is a progressive, whether that upsets you or not. You are upset because you associate best with Newt’s policies making you yourself a progressive and that upsets you to realize such truth.
If you look at all Newts solutions, they all consist of Government being the solution. Newt’s past remarks accuse him and his current remarks prove him guilty of such accusations.
CONSERVATIVES do not advocate Government being the solution for anything. Only PROGRESSIVES do.
Newt will continue BO‘s policies just like BO continued Bush’s…..

Who are you going to trust-
Sarah Palin or Beck ?
Palin is obviously, rooting for Newt…her enthusiasm speaks volumes.
Beck & Palin always seemed, like kindred spirits
but with this issue, it’s hard to justify.
Beck has been vicious toward Gingrich.
In that previous interview, Beck asked questions & Gingrich responded.
Gingrich maintained his composure, while Beck went ballistic.
Set aside the politics, Beck’s behavior was atrocious, on ANY level.
I was shocked & saddened.
Love Beck and appreciate all his goodwill, aimed at resurrecting the country,
but this episode was a total disappointment.
I just finished reading his latest book on Washington
I‘ve read Gingrich’s historical novels, including those on Washington
& was so surprised, to hear Beck battle with someone,
who appreciates American History, as much as he does.
He owes Gingrich & his audience an apology.
Knowing Gingrich, he would graciously acknowledge & accept it.
When people, who know nothing about Beck, excoriate him,
I have always stepped in and defended him, it was easy to do.
Lately, I don’t know how to defend him, he‘s someone I don’t recognize.
It’s fine, if he doesn’t like Gingrich, as the nominee.
However, Beck’s rage at Gingrich is not only disappointing, but disturbing.
Chill out, Beck-
keep talking up your guy, but stop frothing at the mouth,
maliciously, disparaging our guy.

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 3:57pmI totally agree that Santorum is the best candidate.
However Newt did get the Republicans the majority with Contract with America he did get us welfare reform that lowered the number of government employees.
Beck looks at Romney the wrong way I fear. Sure Newt admires the wrong politicians but why is that? It is because they got a lot done. Newt got a lot done at speaker so he did learn from these men.
He is somewhat progressive but he is not for the same progressive goals Obama is. As Chris Matthews said Romney is moderate liberal Obama is Center liberal. Those two are the same. Newt is much much different.
Santorum is far better than Newt on the issues and perhaps more conservative but his record is also very troubling in some ways as well, not as much so as Newts. Thing is his national name recognition is low he has no strong management experience getting things done. His exit from the Senate makes me wonder if he can handle the Press. I pray Newt chooses him as his VP. But I see no way he wins the nomination.
My plea is Beck will take another look at Newt especially his conversion story and how it affected his political views. I think the progressive rants will hurt Beck as it is hard to understand and no where black and white. Newt is very different than Obama to say they are the same is hardly believable. Democrats hate Newt with a passion for real.

Yes, I fear Gingrich because he has supported mandated healthcare, has no morals, believes Government to be a solution, and has no plans to cut Government at all nor any plans to help our economy or dollar value.
Any patriot who wants a country ran by the Constitution, which Gingrich believes is outdated, would fear Gingrich as President because Gingrich would continue the destroying of it.

When questioned about direct quotes supporting progressive ideals, Newt simply dismisses them calls the very act of questioning of them “baloney.”
When questioned on lobbying for Freddie Mac, he claims he was a historian. When questioned on ethics charges while speaker, he says they were dismissed and infers that because they were, they must have been without basis (despite being fined, reprimanded, and forced to resign). He uses technicalities to get around his record of corruption and acts like he was actually a principled politician.
We already have someone in the White House who is very talented at dodging questions, reshaping his record at will, and giving feel good answers. When it comes to corruptibility, Newt makes Obama look like Steve Urkel.

Actually, I recall that Newt said that asking that question was “as close to despicable as anything [he] had ever seen” — this from a guy who has been a history teacher, who certainly must know about slavery, the holocaust, you name it — all pales to insignificance when held up against bringing up an uncomfortable matter about Newt Gingrich! He seems to want to show how much he has learned about history that he indiscriminately throws candidates into buckets… this guys is just like Teddy Roosevelt, Jackson, FDR, Wilson, etc. just because the person relates to something about the individual. Of course in Glenn’s mind he assigns the worst case. Well, when those same people or other politicians compare themselves to Lincoln, Reagan or Bush does he make disparaging remarks? No! Bill Clinton, in a New York Times poll in October 1992, just weeks before the election, found 33 percent of voters with a favorable view of him but 39 percent unfavorable. Mr. Clinton won despite being a candidate whom voters were slow to develop a liking for.
A more unambiguously favorable precedent for Republicans is that of Ronald Reagan. At this point in 1980, Mr. Reagan’s ratings were 38 percent favorable, against 39 percent unfavorable. However, his favorability ratings were fairly strong by mid-summer 1980, and he soundly defeated Jimmy Carter later that year.
The fact that the media and the Republican establishment keep telling us Gingrich can’t win, tells me that they fear him the most!

I am sick to the gills of GB pummeling Newt and he has said nothing about Romney. Oh Newt has his faults. Oh yes. For sure. But come on, Romney!? I mean really? That guy is the biggest charlatan on the block. Where is GB’s painstaking expose of that gentleman? Hmmm? Sorry did I miss it? Gosh I must have because I’m sure GB is totally fair and honest in that regard.
Romney is a pro-abort. He is pro gay rights. He put PP into Romneycare. He implemented Romneycare a blueprint for Obamacare. He ran on a platform of being to the left of Ted Kennedy. Yep, he sure did. He completely spurned Reagan and Bush senior in his 1994 election bid. I mean come on. Talk about a total and utter political opportunist. A total rino. He utterly disgusts me to my core.
I could never vote for a pro-abort, never. That is one thing I could never do. Now the same Romney attempts to pass himself off as a conservative, and GB says what??? Oh yeh, nothing. He chases Newt over and over. He is getting to be just like a liberal. You never win with a liberal. They have their talking points and they dont listen.

Posted on January 24, 2012 at 5:35amBottom Line: Newt is in no way similar to, nor in any way worse than Obama – period. My fist choice is Santorum, but I profoundly would not be opposed to Newt. Aware of some of the things Newt has said in the past and done in the past, but that was 15 plus years ago. He may be a pragmatist and has had some ideas that have been out of line, but we need a house cleaner to clean out all the garbage Obama has deposited all over Washington D.C. and everywhere Obama’s stinky feet has tread. Newt can definitely clean up garbage, and there is a lot to clean up.
Report Post »carbonyes
Posted on January 24, 2012 at 6:36amWatched Beck’s video. If Newt still thinks like he spoke in the excerpts, we have a serious problem with Newt. It is obvious that some of those comments were at least 15 years ago. However, if also appears that some of them were made since the year 2000 and possibly in the last 5 years, which would indicate that Newt would very likely still have some pretty serious progressive bones in him – not a good thing. that being the case, still don’t think he would be as bad as Obama, but may well be not too far behind Obama in his progressive thoughts and potential actions.
Would counter Glenn when referencing Andrew Jackson, in that Jackson was probably as well as if not better known as fighting in the War of 1812 than the Indian fighter. In addition, Jackson was known for taking on the bank in Philadelphia, a private bank run by a Mr. Biddle, and in effect broke the bank and basically decentralized it to where the banking was accomplished on state levels and put back at least temporarily on the gold standard. Doesn’t seem progressive to me. Jackson was definitely an “action man”.
Newt would be an action man. Not necessarily a bad thing to be an action man, provided his actions would be to tear down the mess that Obama has created and to implement some of the domestic agenda that Ron Paul has suggested. Still could be taking a big chance with Newt.
The better option of the now candidates would still be Santorum.

As quoted from your post above-
“You have heard what I have been hearing for over two months now. Glenn has come at Gingrich
& I have to say Glenn has been harder on Gingrich than Obama.”
Yes, your distraught is quite apparent.
After that upsetting Gingrich interview,
I tried to reason, that something else was going on with Beck,
sending him off-kilter, so I waited & didn’t say anything.
But, he has railed against Gingrich, non-stop-
I can deal with the politics part of it, I get it, he doesn’t like him.
Instead, of wasting high-energy tearing Newt apart,
the sensible thing to do, would be to rally around his preference.
Disturbing, even more, is that he’s barraging Gingrich,
on his personal life, when NOBODY cares.
ABC bombed with their hit-piece on the ex-wife,
Gingrich was the benefactor of public outrage at the media & personal sympathy-
& they voted for him in S.C.
Yet, Beck is like a child,
falling on the floor, throwing a tantrum,
continuing to berate Gingrich’s personal life.
He says he’s NOT judging, but he’s judging full-throttle-
THAT is NOT his place,
ONLY Gingrich & God knows what‘s in Newt’s heart,
it‘s not anyone else’s business.
He needs to concentrate on the politics, not the personal.
It truly, makes me sad, he’s such a smart, sweet passionate guy-
almost, on the verge of a breakdown.
Still, I wish the best for him, sure, Newt would, too !

Thanks for the link. Interesting that Newt calls himself a “Reagan Conservative”!
I cut & pasted for those who don’t like to follow links:
In 1987, then Congressman Gingrich co-sponsored, with the pillars of the left, Rep. Barbara Boxer, Rep. Henry Waxman, Rep. Chuck Schumer, and the late Rep. John Murtha, H.R. 1934 that would have reinstated the Fairness Doctrine. The bill was vetoed by then President Ronald Reagan. Newt has never attempted to cover up his vote instead he offered this excuse on his website :
In 1987, the three left-wing networks plus PBS/NPR dominated media, and talk-radio was still nascent; many of America’s most influential conservative activists, including the American Conservative Union and Phyllis Schlafly, supported the Fairness Doctrine at this time.
The rapid growth of conservative viewpoints in the media in the last 25 years is a testament to the power and innovation of the conservative movement once power is taken out of the hands of the elite networks and put into the hands of consumers.
In other words, he supports the Fairness Doctrine, and is against free speech, when it helps his cause. This isn’t his only brush with hypocrisy. In 2007 he wrote a book called Contract with the Earth, and recently removed a chapter with a distinguished climate scientist in it’s sequel that is due out in 2013

HE picked that phony Bachmann first…she played up to him; NO one else liked her; then he picked SANTORUM…we like Santorum well enough, but he’s a total LIGHTWEIGHT when it comes to debates and stating his position…he needs to get back in the SENATE or run for GOV of PA…he is no where NEAR ready to be President. BECK and his side kicks were outrageous this morning and STUPID. I hate silly sarcasm- it takes genius to be successfully sarcastic. I hate passive aggressive.
BECK should have said: “Look, America, I’m afraid that Newt has too much baggage (obvioiusly not) or I don’t know what Newts stand on (fill in the blank) is…but to carry on like 14 year old boys for 1 hour is disgusting…. HE will lose me too if this keeps up. He can have his own opinion. HE MUST RESPECT that we may have our opinion too. IF he thinks he can just “DICTATE” who we should follow then BECK is worse than a hypocrite….WE’RE ALL SUPPOSED TO THINK FOR OURSELVES. PS: LET DAVID BARTON inform you, Beck, on Wilson’s dying words (about the mistakes he had made in social engineering) …READ something NEWT has written. GROW UP.

Ron Paul does NOT WANT TO LEGALIZE DRUGS — he says it’s a STATE right.
Re: drugs, porn, prostitution
Report Post »The Republican National Committee pulled a dirty trick on Paul. According to the Times, Paul was running for Congress against fellow Republican Greg Laughlin, whom he eventually defeated in a runoff. During the campaign, an Austin marketing company called people and asked respondents who favored Paul if they would still support him knowing that he was in favor of legalizing drugs, pornography and prostitution. The real truth, the Times noted, was this: “Dr. Paul said he only favored repeal of Federal laws on drugs, pornography and prostitution, leaving states to prohibit them.”

2-Newt had 14,000 negative ads run against him his first year as speaker. He was featured as the grinch, breaking tiny tims crutch, before he had even held the gavel. He took the slings and arrows so others wouldn’t have to.
3-Newt had 84 ethics charges filed against him.83 were dismissed. The one remaining charge was for teaching a college course about America.Newt was eventually found not guilty of any wrong doing.
4-Newt resigned to give the dems “their pound of flesh” so that his fellow republicans could continue to score victories on the budget and taxes. It didn’t work because they went after his replacement before he even had a vote.

Posted on January 24, 2012 at 6:57amI GASPER, agree that Glenn seems to be going overboard, although I really believe that Newt stepped in it again in the South Carolina interview when he lied by saying “balogna” when asked whether he had said FDR was the greatest President of the 20th century. Being a pragmatist is one thing; lying to cover your tracks is completely another thing and displays character of the wrong kind – bad character.
All that aside, and I am not discounting anything, but it appears Glenn is trying to be a King maker, for he also has his neophytes on the GBTV round table hammering Newt, and they do not have their facts correct, nor are they very professional with their giddiness.

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 2:46pmWhat do you mean proof?
Wilson believed in free trade, while Taft argued against free trade. Glenn Beck agrees with Wilson on free trade. Wilsonian realpolitik was an approach to foreign policy that believed that protecting democracy abroad was in the interest of the country. Beck agrees with that. Jackson was against a national bank, Beck is against the Federal Reserve. Theodore Roosevelt argued strongly against judicial activism, as does Beck. Roosevelt also believed that English should be the official language of government, only English should be used in schools, and decried hyphenated Americanism. Does Beck disagree?
So he attacks people on agreeing with Wilson, Jackson, and Roosevelt on some issues when he does himself.
Report Post »Berbel73
Posted on January 23, 2012 at 3:44pmMore lies from the encinom troll. Beck does not agree with nation building and trying to spread democracy abroad. He has specifically stated the opposite and that he would like to bring more of our troops home, and use our armed forces only when we are attacked or as a result of direct provocation, so that is a blatant and outright lie. The federal reserve is not a national bank, so again you try to pass off a distortion as the truth. Beck is against the federal reserve but trying to tie him with Andrew Jackson in some sense of agreement is totally dishonest. Beck‘s disagreement with Jackson stems from Jackson’s belief in manifest destiny and his slaughter of the Native Americans. Since you seem to claim to knew Glenn so well then you should know that. And Teddy Roosevelt wasn’t the first or only president to speak out aginst judicial activism and trying to tie the two of them together in agreement and accuse Beck of hypocrisy is just typical of the liberal progressive left. You try to reframe the argument by ignoring the facts and manipulating the choices so that it would appear that you are right. But you liberal progressives can’t stand up to the truth so you lie, distort, and rewrite history to fit your agenda. You are such vile despicable human beings and are completely without honor or integrity and I’ll never know how you manage to live with yourselves.
