Beck Responds to Odd Piven Interview: Is She Implying I‘m Going to ’Beat Her Up?’

Over the weekend, Frances Fox Piven sat down with NPR to talk about Beck’s discussion of her “dangerous” welfare and change theories. In sum, Piven said Beck‘s warnings about her just don’t make sense since she’s an old, frail, gray-haired woman. On Monday, Beck and his radio crew responded to her interview.

(Listen to Piven’s interview with NPR.)

“What does this have to do with anything?” Beck asked after listening to Piven discuss her physical appearance while defending herself. “Am I going to beat her up? Is that what they’re implying?”

You can listen to Beck and the rest of his radio team discuss Piven’s red herring argument below:

In true liberal form, Piven’s playing the victim card. Oh, I’m just a sweet old grey-haired lady who wouldn’t hurt a fly. Never mind the fact that I was calling for Americans to commit acts of violence very recently.

I‘d like to see Kevin Nealon’s subliminal guy do a bit on Francis Fox Piven. “I’m seventy eight years old and I have grey hair (riot on the streets!). I like like to knit and read poetry (death to America!). My husband is dead and I’m sad and lonely and I need the sympathy of the American public (violence is needed for revolutionary change!). I think I’ll go make a cup of tea.

Glenn Beck is a geriatrophile in case no one has noticed. He is also a raving liberal and feels threatened by the existential threat posed by the structural left. Senior citizens , mostly leftists are who give him a reason to live, as his Grandparents were in actuality were as far left as they come.He vicariously relives and relitigates his Communist upbringing by calling attention to nearly octogenarian liberals who he sees as fading forces that he must reverse promote. What did Piven get for an audience or a speaking fee before Glenn resurrected her?And George Soros is some kind of wunderkind for shorting the Limeys out of a little Sterling?Come on Blazers, he tells you to watch the other hand! “red herring argument”

Like every single one of Beck’s 10 second long, millimeter deep non-argument deflections about Geroge H. W. Bush, George W. Bush and 9/11.

“We have before us, the opportunity to forge for ourselves and future generations, a New World Order. A world where the rule of law, not the law of the jungle, governs the conduct of nations. When we are successful, and we will be, we have a real chance at this New World Order. An order in which a credible United Nations can use its peacekeeping role to fulfill the promise and vision of the UN’s founders.”

-George H. W. Bush sounding exactly like George Soros. President George H. W. Bush, father of President George W. Bush who “had to, for national security” build the machine that Obama is currently using against all of you.

It’s amazing how easily you will all accept Obama playing the role, but not Bush… you’ll all accept the fact that leftists lie, cheat, and steal as well as murder babies by the thousands and destroy the family unit in order to fracture society and bring in global communism, but can’t accept Bush having a hand in it? That’s mystifying to me.

They’ll give away nuclear secrets, sign treaties that mean certain death in the event of nuclear war, burn trillions of dollars, rack up debt with China, hire people who call for the “liquidation” of part of the population who refuse to be reeducated, yet somehow you all think they wouldn’t allow planes to be flown into buildings as a pretext to war and building the DHS, and everything that’s being turned on you RIGHT NOW?

News flash: MILLIONS of people have died in foreign wars. Your own soldiers, and civilians you don’t care about because they are poor and have brown skin. As horrific as it was, 9/11 is actually quite tame when compared to that, and the amount of abortions performed every year. IT IS NOT BEYOND THEM.

You’ll sit there and watch Beck say “they are setting up the next Oklahoma City” and STILL you can’t grasp what 9/11 was? Were you not paying any attention at all? 9/11 was THE catalyst for all of this. The only part that existed pre-9/11 was the debt. The cage was built afterward. Think about it: Beck says they are hoping for another Oklahoma, in order to use it against you. Well… WHAT DO YOU THINK 9/11 WAS?

Bush, Clinton, Obama… identical. All corrupt, all puppets, all supporters of the New World Order. Time to wake up, people. Time to look for yourselves, because Beck isn’t stepping up to the plate. LOOK INTO 9/11. Not “how the buildings fell” crap. The FINANCIAL ties. Look at the names of the people and corporations. Look for transfers of wealth. Look at the news for 6 months prior to and after the attacks. Look at what was crammed through before, during, and after the attacks. You’ll see a lot of familiar faces.

PLEASE do your duty and LOOK.

Cite for me Beck’s arguments against 9/11. Because in the past 3 years all I’ve heard is mockery… calling people “crazy”. Isolating and intimidating, and ridiculing, just like he whines about the left doing to him.

He ignores the 99% of truthers who are sane people with REAL information, and pounces on people like Van Jones. Do you really think Van Jones signed that petition because he’s a truther, or even cares about 9/11? He signed it to hurt Bush, plain and simple. One tiny signature in passing, and all of a sudden he’s synonymous with truthers? Look at the man. His history, and work. It has NOTHING to do with 9/11. It was just one signature from having a petition shoved under his nose. And now all of a sudden truthers are “leftists” and “anti-American” because Van Jones signed a freaking petition? And Charlie Sheen? THAT is Beck’s next big attack on truthers? Charlie Sheen? Now truthers are “stupid” and “stoned idiots” because Beck pinned a commie and a crackhead on the top of the pyramid?

      That’s called a smear tactic.

All he does is cite non-arguments and pop-culture trash. Compared to the depth he goes on leftist social groups, his debunking of 9/11 is nonexistent. He goes for the trash heap, not the core arguments. He turns into Jon Stewart.

I don’t know what his reasons are, but GLENN BECK IS WRONG ABOUT 9/11. And not just 9/11 either. That’s just one part of it. He’s dismissing 50% of the picture altogether.

9/11 was an insurance scam. Even an idiot could see that if they bothered looking at the simplest of facts. That was the payoff for the lease holder for allowing it to happen. As for everyone else: well, you’re looking at the end result.

If you like Obama’s administration and all the power it has, thank Bush.

      You have earned my respect.
I now may no longer say you haven’t a shred of sense in you.
      That distinction belongs to N37
And may I add, Broker, your diagnosis is spot on: this guy’s ailment is succumbing to the flattery, of believing pseudo-facts as facts because it makes him feel like he’s the smart one, which he doubts, deep-down.
N37, you are NOT unredeemable. But learn to think for yourself. You can’t have it both ways: is the govt smart enough to pull off the huge cover-up required but AT THE SAME TIME too dumb not to keep it hidden from you? Go back and study logical fallacies and identify all the ones you’re committing. Return to the light, please.
But don’t try spouting that nonsense here: we‘ don’t buy it on this forum.

I see there’s no point in arguing 9/11 with you morons, so I’ll change gears. Only this time, I’d appreciate some actual feedback on the things I say. Defend beck here. Tell me where I’m wrong:

You can’t use “truther” as a slur until you debunk their claims and make it truly derogatory by definition. Can we agree on this? But Beck hasn’t done that. He skipped the whole process and attained the “slur” status not by debunking, but by pinning negativity to it. Guilt by association. He ignores the majority and roots around for the odd person like Van Jones or Charlie Sheen and THAT is how he turns truthers into idiots. Not with core arguments. Not with facts. Not with debunking, but with the importation of external negativity. He’s not proving the truther argument wrong. He’s proving communism wrong, and drug abuse wrong and then pinning them to the truth movement. He’s not discrediting the truth movement by flogging it with its own arguments, but by flogging it with the external, unrelated beliefs of an extreme group minority. He has the whole thing inside out.

What Beck needs to understand is what he is doing is a smear. He points this out to the point of exhaustion when it’s aimed at him but will turn around and do it himself regularly, and it makes my jaw drop. Some days I swear I’m the only person in the universe who notices how much of a raging hypocrite he can be. I don’t like it, because it makes it harder for me to trust his word and motives.

Beck using Van Jones and Charlie Sheen to define the truth movement is EXACTLY the same as Media Matters and Huffington Post using Byron Williams (the Tides Foundation shooter) against Beck. Exactly the same. Think about it objectively: Williams did something that Beck was against, that had nothing to do with Beck’s code of conduct or motivations, yet the left used it to smear us all. Now look at what Beck did: Used Van Jones and Charlie Sheen. Both did things that had nothing to do with the truther movement or what they believe, yet he uses them to smear them all. The methods are identical. Neither one directly addressed the issues, yet were used to inflict damage.

Have an argument against communism and drug use? OK, then. You have an argument against communism and drug use. Not truthers. Using Beck’s logic on this, you could attack any other facet of life by simple, one-way association. You could say baseball is crazy because Sheen likes it, or turtlenecks because Van Jones wears them. There are racists, drug users, thieves, and rapists everywhere. You cannot use them to define an entire group. It doesn’t work that way.

These are the exact lines of logic Stu and Pat (but mostly Stu, who I like a lot because he’s so focused and logical) use when tearing the left to shreds. They point out fallacies and non-arguments like this all the time. Just go back and re-read my last 2 paragraphs, but read them in Stu’s voice. See what I mean? It’s something Stu would say.

I don’t hate Beck. I’m eternally grateful for him, but just have to call him out on things like this. I know a lot of you get offended when people go on the attack, but understand that I’m not attacking Glenn Beck. I’m attacking things he says and does. Unlike you I don’t like or dislike people as a whole. I like or dislike many different facets of everyone. It’s not about emotion, or being a fan. It’s about logic and honesty, in its purest form. I defend beck constantly, but also go on the attack. Isn’t that what this is all about? If it’s about liking a man to you, and being a fan, I think you have your priorities out of order.

I treat Beck like a human being. You people treat him like God. There are so many contradictions and holes here, I don’t even know where to start.

Some treat him like a god…Sure. What do you expect? Look at the audience you have here. People are people. You have many little old ladies, some old retired dudes, some young punks, working class, men, women, college grads, pastors, and white collar professionals. From all around the country and probably other countries. You cannot get away with making any blanket statements here, you have to take each poster at face value.

That said, I take Beck with a grain of salt. Just read my post in here, I agree that without Beck putting the spotlight on her Piven is a nobody. I also think Beck “milks” his audience. I would come short of calling it “scare tactics” but he does present the absolute doom and gloom scenario but then is amazingly uplifting and even spiritual too. He is a showman, no different then his early radio days…Except he believes what he is saying and he has researched it. Worship Beck? No. But I watch and I respect his opinions, even when I disagree. I think most people in here take Beck at face value and do their own homework. The sane ones anyway.

Your problem is you are a truther and you do not like the fact that Mr. Conspiracy himself will not take your kind seriously. But honestly, I don’t believe anyone that works for Fox does. I am sorry, it is simply a crazy theory. I know people have thought it through and I admit that some of the arguments are compelling. But happystretchedthin makes some good points. You really should just let go of this one friend. I full well understand your position as I am a young earth creationist myself and I know what it feels like to beat your head against the wall, but stop and think, is it really important who was behind the attack? You will NEVER prove anything beyond terrorists. You can come up with all the grassy knoll arguments you want, but you cannot prove anything. Let it go…

This is a serious question I’ve never met a truther able to adequately answer. It goes to the heart of the CONTENT of their propositions, AND to the FORM of their psychology.
You ducked and covered when I asked it, then ignored me, and accused me of not challenging you on the issues. That question IS pointing our where you’re wrong.
As to Beck, I like him when he’s right, and call him on it when he’s wrong. Haven’t had to do the latter much. But since you accuse…burden of proof on YOU to show he HASN’T debunked your “facts” (which are really pseudo-facts, you have to admit, but won’t).

      “Oh, they wouldn’t do that!”

Yeah… because when you’re taking over the world, the last thing you’d do is pull out all the stops. Instead, you’d risk trillions of dollars and decades of work just to avoid killing a few serfs. Right… keep telling yourself that if you want.

They needed an emergency, so they let some stinky cave dwellers slam jets into the WTC. Sorry, but the truth hurts. But it doesn’t hurt as much as living in denial. Agreed. You will find very few here who would argue that. I will even agree that Bush was just as bad as obama and McCain also. I do not think many here have that “white picket fence” mentality, go up to the end of the first block and read my reply I just made to JZS. I will go further than most and even assert that as a nation we are doomed. It is already too late. America will keep going in one form or another, but those baseball, apple pie, county fair, white picket fence, 4th of july parade saluting the flag days are gone. Forever. They aint coming back. Starting your own business on Main Street so you can pass it on to the kids is gone. I hope Christ is coming soon because I do not want to live in this “new” America, nor do I want my kids to not have the freedoms I grew up with. I will fight till my dying breath to keep America how she is supposed to be.

That still does not change anything I wrote above. Once again, you are beating a dead horse. What do you think it will accomplish? Why not focus on what is in front of us rather than what is behind us?

We can still pull ourselves out. The problem is the brainwashed libs need to get on board. Democrats are not the enemy, in fact, despite what most simpletons in here believe, we NEED them. We need two opposing parties and there is room for different views. But this socialist/progressive mentality needs to be defeated. Truth and history must prevail. I just fear it is asking too much. The damage has been done, it has been done 40-50 years ago. We are just now getting around to paying the piper. I pray I am wrong.

I’m glad that we have someone like Beck who is exposing her obvious contempt for America and what it stands for. Beck has done Piven the biggest favor he possibly could have. She would have gone to her grave in relative obscurity except for a few radical liberals. Beck has propelled her to the limelight and made her name a household word! Look at how many interviews she has given just the last few months!

I think that Francis Fox Piven is a red herring for Beck. Glenn has absolutely not established that she is an instigator or leader or leading philosopher of the left. Sure she is a radical, but there are and always has been many radicals in the USA. Guess what, they are allowed to spout off without personal persecution. Without Beck focusing on her, she would continue her academic and radical life without notice by the left or the right.

Talk about spooky. A year or ago or so, no one had heard of Francis Scott Piven.. She was an obscure sociology professor who, with her writing, was unknown outside the University where she taught. Fifty years ago in the sixties she and her husband proposed a ridiculous scheme to overload the government with welfare claims. Fifty years ago.

No one in the United States or elsewhere would have even heard of her, let alone act on her article from 50 years ago, were it not for Glenn Beck. But Beck needs enemies, and so he picked on this totally unknown person, who even radicals hadn’t heard of, to demonize.

But here‘s the point and here’s what is spooky. This American citizen is getting death threats. Lot’s of death threats. That Beck is saying “is she say I want to ‘beat her up’” is revolting given that she knows she recieving anonomous threats from Beck listeners. No Beck, nobody is saying that you’re trying to beat her up. Ha ha, of course your not. And neither did you threaten to “beat up” employees of the Tides Foundation, although one of your listeners drove to their office with full body armor and armed to the teeth to slaughter everyone there (by his own admission, and giving you as the inspriration).

Come on guys. This isn’t funny anymore.

The strategy of forcing political change through orchestrated crisis. The “Cloward-Piven Strategy” seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.

Cloward and Piven were inspired by radical organizer [and Hillary Clinton mentor] Saul Alinsky:

“Make the enemy live up to their (sic) own book of rules,” Alinsky wrote in his 1989 book Rules for Radicals. When pressed to honor every word of every law and statute, every Judeo-Christian moral tenet, and every implicit promise of the liberal social contract, human agencies inevitably fall short. The system’s failure to “live up” to its rule book can then be used to discredit it altogether, and to replace the capitalist “rule book” with a socialist one. (Courtesy Discover the Networks.org)

      Hey JZS,

What you say is correct, she was obscure until Beck brought her out into the open. But don’t criticize Beck for showing the world what she has said and wrote. They are her words, her ideals, her plans and schemes. They are no secret, they are not only openly published but also taught. She herself spent the better part of her life teaching this. Why are you blaming Beck for showing the rest of us regular folk what the ivy league thinkers are thinking? Hmmm?

She made her own bed, let her live up to her reputation or apologize for her thoughts and admit she was wrong. Either way…But don’t blame Beck. He only showed us what was already published and taught.

@TROLLTRAINER – I don’t disagree with your first few sentences. Yes, her ideas were published. And no, I don’t object to Beck quoting her fifty year old ideas – they’re published, they are public domain and he can quote them. But at that point in your post, you lose your bearings.

You say, “Why are you blaming Beck for showing the rest of us regular folk what the ivy league thinkers are thinking?” Ivy League thinkers? What evidence do you have that any Ivy League thinkers” have even heard of her, let alone are teaching the ideas she wrote 50 years ago. I don’t want to be presumptuous, but I’m confident that none are. None, as in zero.

As much as I resist saying it, this reminds me of nothing more than the character Emmanuel Goldstein in George Orwell’s book “1984.” In the book, he was an enemy of that state and nothing was known about him except the fictional ideas the Government gave and that he was presented as the object of hatred (is it a coincidence that Priven and Soros are most others demonized by Beck are Jews?)

You get a little scary TROLL when you say, “She made her own bed…” Given the threats, what do you mean by that?

How old are you JZS? (rhetorical question). There was a time not too long ago that socialism was the enemy. We even fought wars to stop the spread of it. This is a capitalistic republic. You can quibble about the meaning of that, or just how capitalistic we are now…But the fact is what I make belongs to me. Not you or anyone else. I have had ancestors who have fought for that principle and I would gladly give my life for it myself. There are many who feel the same as I do. When someone wants to take what I have earned they become my enemy. It is no surprise Piven has received threats, after all, she wants to take what is not hers. I hope nobody goes off the deep end and caps her. She is, after all, just a stupid old woman. But if someone does, I will not shed a tear over it. She should not have spent her life trying to overthrow the government she was living under by taking what is not hers to give to those who have done nothing to earn it.

I hope I have made myself clear. It is a difference in ideology. My parents generation dropped the ball after they came back from WWII. I suppose they never imagined that their children would fok up what they fought so hard to keep. They lived through the Great Depression then the war and when they came back to a booming economy and an industrialized country they formed their own Utopia. They did not want theor kids to live through what they did and they sheltered and spoiled them. Then my generation, after we drugged out in the sixties and destroyed all vestiges of morality, went even further with our kids. Then our kids raised what Beck has called a generation of would be killers. Kids who think they are entitled to everything without any effort. Kids who got a trophy for just showing up. Kids who were graded in rainbow colors because red would hurt their feelings. Kids who never got a good, old fashioned whipping…We are lost. As a nation…It has all slipped through our fingers. But…There is a solid core of ‘normal” people who have fought these trends. Who have raised our kids the right way. Who have taught them values and hard work. Who showed them God. Anymore these kids are home schooled, but there are still a lot of them.

Piven and her ilk are the enemy. Obama is the enemy. You do not redistribute wealth, you encourage its growth. This country will either wake up and go back or…We are doomed. At least America as it has been. To you that might be a good thing. I personally miss the America of my youth I miss the America of the eighties and even nineties. This place sucks these days, the dream is all but dead.

I hope I made myself clear? If Piven is killed it is no less than she deserves. She is a traitor to my country.

Give every truly evil person enough time, and they do themselves in. Glenn Beck is no different in this regard. By publicizing the fifty year old writings of an old harmless woman, writings that never caused any harm, Beck has unwittingly drawn attention to one of his evil techniques used to generate ratings. Now he’s being seen as a bully and a thug, just as he was decades ago when he tried to boost his sagging ratings by attacking a harmless female DJ he viewed as competition for simply being over weight. This is true, but do your own homework and check it out for yourselves

TROLLTRAINER, you say, “But the fact is what I make belongs to me. Not you or anyone else.” Sounds nice but is only true if you live alone on a desert island. You’re forgetting a few things: the road in front of your house, the streetlight, the drinkable water that comes out of your tap, your school, the library, the police and fire department, the servicemen who protect your freedom, etc. If you want to enjoy the benefits of living in civilization, your money is not all yours. You have to help pay for those roads, highways, libraries and facilities that clean your water and the people who enforce the laws that keep carcinogens out of the water supply. If you want to live in a civilization, you have to contribute to those things that benefit everyone.

Also, you should be careful about assuming you get to decide who will live and who are traitors who should be murdered. Check your Bible as a reference, starting with the Ten Commandments. Also check the First Amendment of the Constitution.

So, of course you do. You pay taxes. But do you pay your share? If you live in a town with 1000 people, do you pay 1/1000th the cost of cleaning up the water you drink (etc?). I doubt you do unless you are wealthy. The wealthy pay far more than you do, for example, to make sure you can drink clean water, because they pay more taxes.

So the fact is that wealth is being distributed, from the wealthy to you. When you were born, and now. The wealth is redistributed to YOU. So stop complaining about the redistribution, because you my friend are the beneficiary.
