Glenn Beck opened his radio show this morning by commenting on one of the week’s most disturbing stories — the vicious attack that middle schoolers waged on Karen Huff Klein, a 68-year-old bus monitor (and grandmother of eight) in Greece, New York.
Beck joined millions of Americans in voicing his outrage after learning about the startling footage that captured the abuse. The video, he told listeners, showcases the negative changes that have occurred in American culture.
“We have lost our way as a society,” Beck said. “I saw a video yesterday that was so disturbing that I haven’t been able to even watch the whole thing.”
Joining the chorus of voices calling for a deeper look at the elements at play, Beck told Americans that we need to explore “what’s happening with our kids.” He also discussed the differences that exist between American society in the 1950s and today, claiming that such a spectacle wouldn’t have happened decades ago.

“Even [if the students acted that way], the driver would have slammed on the brakes at some point, gotten out of his seat, and administered some old-fashioned ass-whopping with these 12-year-old kids,” Beck said of the 1950s. “If not the driver, I do believe there would have been at least a student or two among the 30+ on board who had the guts and decency to stop or at least try to stop it.”
He went on to discuss some of the potential causes that have led American youths to such a point, concluding that, “The kids in this video are dead inside.”

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 5:48pmI totally agree with you. When I was younger I got the belt if I got out of line. Back then I didnt know any better and would obviously hate my parents for doing that but I’m 23 years old now and I believe that I turned out well. If I were to do this my parents would kill me. I was taught never to raise my voice to any adult including elders. So in this case, to me, these kids were never spanked, because its considered “child abuse” so they were probably put in time out which definately does nothing in my opinion

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 8:27pmI retired from teaching middle school special education. These are the kind of kids I tried to teach. Even regular classes were having these kinds of kids in class. It only takes one kid like this to ruin your whole class and keep others from learning. It is why public schools are not doing well. It is why parents have already taken kids to private schools and home schools. With vouchers, the rest of the caring parents are pulling their kids out of public schools too. What are the public schools left with? No wonder they are getting so bad!
Report Post »I saw this kind of child begin in a Head Start center where the mom of a 3-year old said right in front of him that “I can’t do a thing with him!” If you don‘t teach them in the Terrible Two’s, you get Terrible Two behavior for the rest of their lives. Raising kids is HARD work and 24/7/365. if you don’t want that work, don’t have the kid. 15-year olds want welfare money, so they have kids and don’t raise them. These kids end up like the bus kids. Responsible parents are not having too many kids; welfare parents are. The “bus” kids are outnumbering the rest of us. This is our future!

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 4:38pmAgreed! I’ve always stated that anti-bullying measures — along with zero tolerance policies — play into the hands of the bullies. Kids who follow the rules will follow them. The ones who don’t will not care about the rules and break them anyway. Anti-bullying and ztp’s will result in good kids being dragged down by the bad.
In my day — the 1970s — a middle school bully would’ve had his way for a few days or maybe a week or two. Finally, the good kids — or just a single good kid — would’ve knocked the living feces out of him, and the problem would’ve been solved.
A kid bullied me on the bus when I was in elementary school. One day I had enough and rode the bus to his stop, where I proceeded to beat the living daylights out of the punk. I got hurt, too. Later in life, he and I became friends and laughed about our bus-stop fight.
I had a cousin who stood up to an entire football team for taunting a black student (this was in the rural South, too). He kind of came up short on his defense of the kid, but he opened the eyes of school administrators to the behavior of the team, too. My cousin is an adult, now, and still lives by the principals he lived by in school. He’s very successful. Out of all his successes, I tell people about him taking on a county football team to defend a black kid before I tell them anything else.
I can only watch a few moments of the video. That poor woman. I’ve thought about her all day. In some ways, I wish I never watched it.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 2:32pmThis is the outcome of … “don’t punish the kids it will hurt their self esteem.” The kids know that adults are not allowed to do anything to them and that is why they behave like animals. These kids when they kill their parents or someone, we wring our hands and say how did they get this way. We cudle these kids to no end. When there is a tragedy somewhere we send masses of counselors to the schools to help the kids get over their grief, hog wash. When my friends were shot and some died, when relatives and friends died in accidents there were no councelors around to hold my hand and ask me about my feelings. I grew up to be a citizen without any criminal activitiy, I served honorably in the military, I held good and well paying jobs and I raised a family where my kids were taught to respect adults and the law. I am like millions in this world, BUT
We are on our way to live the movie “Lord of the Flies” and have the attitude that “you owe me, I did not ask to be born”.
In 20 – 30 years we will be slaves to the Chinese who believe in hard work and presently respect their parents and elders.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 2:27pmThe sad thing is that the parents of these children will never see a word we all throw out here. Because they don’t care them selves. They aren’t interested in what is going on in the country and what could affect their futures, they only care about surviving from day to day.
It is going to take US to fight for the life of our country and hopefully give these people the opportunity to see a different and better way to live and teach them how to live it.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 2:26pmThis is the DIRECT RESULT of parents AND schools not disciplining their children; the removal of prayer in the school and the lack thereof at home; the lack of respect for authority at home and in school: the bombardment of violence upon children from the movies, video games, bad neighborhoods and abusive parents / reletives; the absence of respect for the unborn and/or these childrens’ peers and/or the elderly; the lack of a challenge in schools that are purposely dumbing down our best and brightest to cow-tow to the children of lessor intelligence; the fact of “social promotions” to move an unruley child out of Grade A and up to Grade B even though they are NOT ready to move up; the loss of local control of public schools given over to an inept Federal Education Department, etc., etc. We MUST take out children, school and government back, AMERICA ! At least 49 years of Big Government has resulted in exactly what you saw on these videos – children that ARE dead inside. May God please forgive America. Let US Pray.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 2:21pmThere should be a mandatory assembly for parents/kids and the grandparents should be invited especially for every kid that rides that bus and this video should be shown. When children are taught not to listen to Mom/Dad/Grandparents this is the result. I do believe some schools/teachers are doing this by undermining what parents are trying to teach their children. We are hearing the lack of respect for adults/for elderly/ for anyone who is heavy. Shame! Shame! Shame!

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 2:20pmTwo things on this:
1) I saw this sort of thing happen to kids on the school bus back in the 1970s, so its not really new. The severity has increased, however; and,
2) What exactly does a “bus monitor” do? Isn’t she supposed to maintain order on the bus? Why is she there and taking that abuse?
Yes, it’s horrible and the little bastards should be suspended from school indefinitely and their parents should be forced to meet with the administration to explain why their little creep should be allowed back in.
That said, this problem has been brewing for a long time and we haven’t done anything about it as a society. We are headed to a scary place. And kids in most other countries are not as bad as this. Not yet, at least.

Did anyone ever think these kids are learning media propaganda? Maybe they were trying to engage her to act so they can post a Youtube video titled: “look at this evil bus monitor beat the cr@p out of these innocent kids”!
Also, if she does nothing she is chastised and if she reacts she is crucified. It’s a NO win for her. This is the BS we put up with today.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 2:46pmI‘m in my 40’s and the worst thing I witnessed in regard to disrespect toward elders in school was when a kid who sat behind me called our teacher “fat butt” behind her back. Now, I loved her and thought she was one of the best teachers ever so I told on him. His mom was also a teacher and she wore his little punk a$$ out. That’s what is supposed to happen when punks disrespect adults. These punks don’t even respect themselves and no one is teaching them otherwise. Do we just allow this kinda behavior because of that, or do we address it and correct it before it’s too late. To me, the answer is obviously the latter.

I can see my Dad standing over me as I cut that woman’s lawn with a pair of dull scissors on a hot summer day after my apology. He’d say, “Every blade, son, every single blade of grass!”
Heck, I got whipped for making fun of a kid, who lived down the highway, when he rode a mule up to our house. Forsythia makes wicked switches. I think the kid’s family was poor, but, heck, we were, too.
I’m getting ready to make my kids watch this when I can muster the fortitude to watch all of it.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 9:44pmA bus monitor is on the bus to help keep order because the bus driver has to drive. it used to be that the kids could be trusted to behave on the bus, so the driver rarely had to do anything. If a kid acted up, his bus privileges were suspended. Then, when kids couldn’t be trusted, they went to cameras, but the do-gooders said that was entrapment or something, and the kid couldn’t be kicked off the bus. So…they got bus “monitors” who could watch the kids and let the driver drive. Now, the kids don’t obey the monitors either. Maybe we should go back to neighborhood schools, so the kids could walk to school. They’d get exercise (reduce obesity), fewer buses would be on the road (less pollution), their parents could participate in the school….oh, but then the poor innocents would be out in danger on the streets???

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 2:13pmI’m 25 years old, and thankful that I was raised the way I was. This is disgusting to witness. Had I done something like this when I was a kid, I wouldn’t of made it to my next birthday, I watched a follow-up of this story on ABC news, they interviewed one of the boys fathers. Although he was apologetic, he didn’t seem all that fazed by his sons actions. On top of that ABC made no mention of the girl involved. Apparently they didn’t listen to the entire recording, or they took a tip from NBC, and chose to ignore the whole scope of the incident. Have we become a society where we are to afriad to discipline our children? This is pathetic, and sickening to watch. We are witnessing the rapid decline of a once near morally sound society. You can thank Progressives, and liberals alike for this sort of behavior becoming the new norm. Somebody needs to slap these kids. Yes … I said slap… I guess im just insinuating that we should all “abuse” our children. May GOD help these kids, and our society as a whole.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 1:58pmSociety has lost its moral compass. Suddenly it becomes “not a big deal” to drink, do drugs, use profane language, cheat if it benefits you, break the law, etc. Parents don’t seem to care (participating in many cases), and the entertainment industry glamorizes it. Foul language is so commonly heard in general society (music, TV, schools, etc) that when I have asked kids standing in line at the mall not to use such profanity around my children, they actually stare at me, not even understanding what my problem is. I homeschool my kiddos & thankfully they understand that many in society think it is a way of life to be immoral, crass & crude – but we will not participate!

Makes me wonder too what are the schools teaching that these “things” are allowed to fester and grow within the school system? The schools lecture on anti-bullying, on sex education, on ‘tolerance’ where American students are denied the right to display the US flag, etc. etc. I would think that at the beginning of the school year that those kids riding school buses need to sign a contract that they WILL behave themselves as civil human beings — no spit balls, no screaming, no insults, no beating upon others, no taking things of other bus riders, etc. If the rider violates the contract — the student would be BANNED for riding for the remainder of the academic year. PERIOD. The contract would have to be signed by the parents as well.
