The most outrageous concession ever given to the teachers union was TENURE!
This was outrageous on so many levels one can hardly begin to decry the stupidity of it all. Which other job in the world has TENURE?
Tenure protects the most incompetent teachers; when a corporation, a government agency, a school board or a small business cannot fire an unskilled, non-producing employee then we are in the throes of self-destruction and mediocrity.
Unions have outlived their usefulness, they know it and that is why they are expanding ill-gotten power into political corruption and creating havoc.

Brava! Governor Walker continue to save your state.

Please explain to me why Noam Chomsky, Francis F Piven, and others speaking of pro-disruptions, destroying our Country, etc are not traitors to America and charged as such? I don’t understand how these people can keep on praising these acts against our Country and get a free pass for doing so. These people are no different than Bin Laden who rants and attacks our Country. The communists and socialists can protest all day long without a negative word from our Admin or the left; however, if the Tea Partiers stand up for our Country and expose these people, our own President demeans us, the far left media seek to destroy us and the truth gets watered down. Fox News with Glenn, Rush, Hannity, and Host Mark Levin are our saving grace. If the people who disagree with where our Country is headed get in the streets, we are subject to arrest. I do not know my Country anymore. I can’t believe we are tolerating communists, socialists and radical Muslims to destroy our homeland. It’s terribly frustrating to watch this video and know there are thousands in America that agree with him and want to bring this Country down. This would include our President. I am 58 years old and hate the thought that I may have to live the remainder of my life scared of my own Countrymen. It’s very sad to know that our President is pushing this socialist and communist agenda and is backed by so many people, it’s hard to get a handle on it. We are in so much trouble. It’s amazing how these actions accelerated once Obama was elected. To deny he’s involved is to be a fool. I hope we win this battle for our Country, our past veterans who fought for our freedom and for our children.

I agree with you 100% but to have anything done about it, it would involve having the gov’t on board for doing so. I just wish the leaders in our congress would grow a spine and do something about it, they’ve got the ultimate power, not the prez.

Though they (unions) want it badly, Governor Walker is not going anywhere but to his office to continue the fight against the useless union workers. We, the people of Wisconsin, elected him because we knew he would take charge of our state and get rid of the waste and unfair union practices. The unions are in a panic. It is no longer all about them. Surprise! There are other people in the state and we are now being heard, thanks to our newly elected Governor. The unions can no loger run our state. BOO HOO unions. Good grief!

One problem with the analogy, Noam, is that Scott Walker isn’t a brutal autocrat oppressing Wisconsinites. He’s trying to balance the damn budget.

Another problem is hardly anyone in the United States thinks Teachers Unions are more important than Students. So you can forget about a popular uprising over this issue.

The Chomsky-left will try to latch onto Middle East unrest and use it to “inspire” uprisings here.

    It won’t work.

Madison is Mecca to socialists and communists. The governor is pooping all over their holy grail the unions. The ugliness hasn’t even started yet. Governor Walker is fully aware of the capabilities of the Communists/Unions. Much of the extremes that are about to take place will probably not even be Wisconsin citizens. The union thugs will be bussed in. That is why the National Guard has been alerted. They are so extreme that a Egypt style uprising is what they have wanted for a long time and the same people fueled the uprising in Egypt anyway.

It’s typical of those who would destroy this nation to use a false comparison. What’s going on in Wisconsin is nothing like what is going on in Egypt and Chomsky knows it. It is very convenient to use it though. Emotional responses always work well. These poor teachers can then be seen as some sort of freedom fighters and gain sympathy. Meanwhile the process of destroying our nation continues.

Our nation is a Republic, and not to be based upon the concept of mob rule; each and every democratic nation and society of the past has failed, completely and utterly gone into the night. It is frightening to see so many seeking to so casually call for changes to what we are not, based on the biggest of lies.

      Counter Piven

THIS IS HOW WE SOLVE THE INSANITY OF THESE BLOATED GOVERNMENT PENSIONS.

      IT’S VERY SIMPLE.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE GOVERNMENT TAKES OVER A FAILED PENSION PLAN IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR?

RESEARCH UNITED AIRLINES. THE UNION EMPLOYEES GOT 25% ON THE DOLLAR AND HAVE TO WORK ADDITIONAL YEARS BEFORE THEY CAN RECEIVE IT. I KNOW, IT HAPPEN TO MY BROTHER.

SINCE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ALWAYS THINK THE SOLUTION IS HIGHER TAXES WE SIMPLY TAX THE PENSION PAYMENTS AT 75%.

IN OTHER WORDS, WE (AS GOOD TAX PAYERS) CONTINUE TO KEEP OUR PROMISE TO PAY THEM THE DOLLARS THEY ARE DUE, HOWEVER, IN RETURN THEY MUST PAY THE TAX WE IMPOSE.

FOR EACH $1 WE GIVE THEM WE TAKE IN TAX FROM THEM .75 CENTS.

THAT SOUNDS MORE THAN FAIR AND EQUABLE TO ME. ESPECIALLY, SINCE I AS A TAX PAYER DON’T HAVE A PENSION — SO WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR PENSION WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO BE MY SERVANT.

HOW STUPID ARE WE … JUST KEEP GIVING UP YOUR FREEDOMS, RIGHTS AND MONEY TO PEOPLE WHO WANT TO CONTROL YOU

Where is the media on this? Imagine if it was a republican, conservative, TEA Party member that says “they wish…” Double standards in this country are sickening…. oh and watch what you wish for it might come true.

These people who are calling for riots etc in the US do not understand they cannot control those in the “rage”. They wants protests like Egypt which come apart into violence, they dont understand this dream of theirs could tear the country apart. Now many will argue thats what they want to reign in this fundamental transformation of the US. But they dont understand that if that happens they, people like Chomsky, Pivens, etc become a target too!!!

Its like a wild animal tamer in a circus, they work with the lion of grizzly bear for years then one day that lion or bear, elephant goes off and takes them out. This is what will happen here in the US and these fools calling for an uprising do not get. The “animals” will revolt against them too!

Stand down is all I can say to those of you with common sense and a sense of patriotism no matter what do not engage the radicals. They want riots, they want violence in the US to start whatever machine it is they are building…..

“What we want is for fair wages, a country that puts people ahead of profits and corporate interests. A government that respects the rights of its citizens, including the right to collectively bargin for fair employment.”

What you have is the right to freedom of association. There is no such thing as a right to force others to have to deal with you. Doesn’t exist.

You can collectively bargain and that’s fine, but you can’t claim a right to force others to abdicate their own freedom of association.

Public employees are unionized against *us*. We’re the employer. The representatives of the employer, the Governor in this case, is doing the people’s will. Since the people’s will is to abolish a fake “right” and re-establish a natural right of two way freedom of association, then that is what will happen.

Why anybody would fight for the greedy union leaders who are themselves shafting the union membership, is beyond me. But people sometimes don’t act rationally when others whip them into a frenzy.

Its all the unions…..they don‘t like that he won’t pay union dues out of paychecks but wants to give employees the abilit yot pay the union on their own……the money’s drying up Trumpka…..find another state. The MAJORITY spoke in November in a VERY Democratic manner…..we already ARE like Egypt. People are missing Chomsky’s ideology. He is not a communist, but an anarchistic socialist. He believes that capitalism only is compatible with democracy when firms remain small and characterized by 100% employee ownership. He also prefers smaller government, where public workers have strong bargaining power, as they would in 100% employee owned firms. He has been appalled at the lack of concern for workers’ rights and the relative loss of economic power and share of the profits of corporations in this country. He writes about this all of the time.

While I share his concerns about the erosion of the middle class and do worry about the weakening of unions as a big reason for the stagnation of worker pay since 1973, I think it is harder to make that case in the context of public workers. While the right wing makes totally over-the-top, hostile comments about public workers, claiming that they add no value–as if a pot hole filled or a report written by a private company suddenly becomes value-less if the government does it–or arguing that they are uniquely selfish or unproductive, the reality is that public workers have not sustained the kinds of pay cuts that people working in private sector have been forced to take during this downturn (the average decline in pay was 2-3% when I last looked at it, versus high single digits for private worker pay). And this is a problem. I do think that the WI Governor is pushing for the loss of key collective bargaining rights that public workers, like private workers, should be entitled to. However, the government needs to be able to respond over time to labor inefficiencies by reducing staff or cutting pay, just like the private sector.

The people who think that they are intelligently discussing the issue by throwing around names (Communist, Pivens), however, really ought to learn better.

Cemot, the correct quotation is: “if we can but prevent the government from wasting the labours of the people, under the pretence of taking care of them, they must become happy.” Note that this does not logically mean that ALL government action that seeks to help people is wasted…

You can find the original quote, as well as a picture of the original script in Jefferson’s hand at:

@ ABC while I hear yeah and also agree on the Chomsky thing he is not a “communist”. I think the anger is based in the fact that the private sector feels they are bearing the brunt of the burden. They have lower wages when compared to the public sector and less job security than the public sector and are then asked to pay higher taxes to pay someone else salary and benefits that are already greater than their salary/benefits to begin with. No one says that public workers aren’t good people or needed, but their demands are unrealistic given what the rest of us have to endure and sacrifice on a daily basis. To those in the private sector this is a source of anger because they feel like they are making sacrifices, but when they see public workers rioting over them having to contribute half as much for their pension and health care as the private sector it is a hard pill to swallow and it angers many. And their collective bargaining is not being eliminated but simply limited to what it should be…..salary. Just my 2 cents.

WHY do they ALWAYS LIE to support their facts??? He says stop their pensions that‘s just a LIE and just trying to incite the public employee’s even more. The public employee’s are being requested to pay more towards their pension contributions and pay more towards their health care coverage. Presently they contribute minimal amounts unlike the private employee/citizen who pay their Salaries. The reason is obvious! the Unions want to bankrupt the state and then get the Government to bale them out, just as long as the unions and their members are OK it doesn’t matter about anyone else. Remember the Unions paid a lot of money to get Obama in, now they need the money back.

Thats a lie, government workers make no where near the same as private. The phony stat that Fox News uses, takes into the average, jobs that have no counterpart in the public sector, like hamburger flipper at McDonalds or greeter at Walmart. This artificially lowers the private sector average. There is nothing fair or honest about Fox, and nothing intelligent about its viewers.
