On Tuesday we thought the viral video showing a young man hacking Times Square video screens was a hoax. Now it’s been confirmed that it is. And there’s “behind-the-scenes” video to prove it.
But the video isn‘t just any ol’ hijinx, it’s actually a promotion for a movie set to debut tomorrow called “Limitless.”
“For what it’s worth, the movie, called ‘Limitless,’ is built on the premise that you can use more of your brain than you currently do,” NBC Bay Area reports. “What that has to do with giant TV screens in Times Square, we’re not sure, but that video sure had people talking.”
The NBC station says the marketing campaign comes courtesy of James Percelay and Michael Krivicka, who started a marketing company called Thinkmodo. The company’s whole business plan is to create life-like videos that go viral.
In a new, behind-the-scenes video of the Times Square “hack,“ the hacker pedals a substance featured in ”Limitless” that allows people to use more brain power (more brain power apparently allows you to create amazing hack tools):
For the record, Percelay and Krivicka are also behind the HeadBlade “viral” (and now revealed to be fake) shaving helmet video:
As one careful reader points out, the video playing on the large Times Square scene immediately before the hack is for “Limitless”:

Very interesting and actually very innovating advertising campaign. This movie is getting a lot of press – will be interested in seeing how it does at the box office.
