Belgian Newspaper: Google Is Blocking Us on Searches

BRUSSELS (AP) — At least three Belgian newspapers are reporting Google is preventing their web sites from being found through its search engine as part of a legal fight accusing the American-based company of copyright infringement.

A Google spokesman said Friday it was required by a Belgian court order to block the searches. Google searches Friday for the newspapers — La Libre, Le Soir and La Capitale — did not show their web sites.

La Capitale said Google was “boycotting” it.

In 2006, Copiepresse, representing several Belgian newspapers, sued Google, saying it had no right to post unauthorized links to newspaper stories on Google News. Google lost in May. A company spokesman said the decision applied to Google Index as well as Google News and the company feared significant fines.

    I wish there was a search into the reports of the President’s birth certificate that was released on April 27 being a complete forgery.

    Google needs to search that. What should we do if the President is lying to us?

    If you can’t control the internet

    control the companies that control the internet;

    soon we may even be able to research any thing related to google, soros, obama, agenda 21, or anything else that is not sustainable,

    Why switch to Ixquick.com? At least six former Google executives are now in the Obama administration. Let’s face it, they are on Obama’s side. Do we really want the administration to know what we search for? Check your ads if you use Gmail. You’ll find ads connected to your emails.

      It’s no better with Yahoo. They nearly bought the Huffington Post and the chief editor of the huffington post sits on the Yahoo board of directors. There was a time where yahoo was blocking my Glenn Beck searches for theBlaze. They brought up whole pages not listing theBlaze, when for months prior, it came up right away. I was even more certain because I used the search drop box and just clicked on the link, and it still wouldn’t bring up theBlaze. Interestingly, this was at the same time Yahoo was supposedly looking to buy HuffPo. I wondered if they didn’t do this in order to make the search numbers look more favorable to HuffPo when compared to the Blaze…I don’t trust any of these people any more

      I use Swagbucks mostly. I started using it in January and I’ve earned $50 worth of Amazon.com gift cards in that time.

    These newspapers sound like a bunch of crybabies to me. I’ve looked up this story on other sites that had more information, and it seems that Google was given an order by the Belgian court not to link to the newspaper’s sites, period. The order came from the very court that decided the case that the newspapers brought. What should Google do, defy a court order to please 3 newspapers that sued them? That’s ridiculous. They sued Google to get un-linked from Google, won, and now they’re crying about the result?

      posting links on “google news” is not the same as allowing someone to find a company through a search of their name.

      they would not be defying the court order by allowing the search engine to do it’s job – the court order only pertains to them creating a “google news” by using other papers articles instead of paying someone to do it the right way. Google is a monstrosity. No search engine should be able to purposefully delete the ability to look up something, someone, or someplace just because they’re getting pissy about it. They have a duty, at least I believe they do, to be fair and unbiased. But that seems to be impossible anymore with all these giant titty babies like Obomber the war monger around. People learn by example, and his example is that of a giant temper tantrum spoiled brat.

    I’d like to know what part Google is playing and has played in the uprisings in the Middle East, especially Egypt. The possibilities are frightening to international security.

    I stopped using Google years ago (many reasons, but don’t care to get flamed at this moment). If I’m not using Yahoo (or Bing; lol), I really like using a cool no track search engine called Ixquick. :)

      At that time, I mainly used Yahoo anyway, but did like Google because it appeared to do a good job with cache searches. I also used Ask Jeeves (just Ask now) and a few other search engines (some don’t exist anymore). I stopped using Google because of the way it appeared their searches came up (I was naive enough to believe searches would be categorized by relativity; only later that I found that was not so). I know that Yahoo (and I’m sure all of them) do this, but it was in your face w.r.t. Google at that time. Now, I continue to not use these guys because of the idiotic political callings (Google is a search engine; not a source for overthrowing foreign governments). I did, however, sort of looked the other way w.r.t. to their Chinese issue since I despise the Chinese Government. Not sure if they caved yet and if they started to give away search info to the Chinese Government, but it wouldn’t surprise me. They probably do it here too. That’s why I like Ixquick. :)
