Biden Says Gay Marriage Is ‘Inevitable’

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden says the country is evolving on the issue of gay marriage and he thinks it’s inevitable there will be national consensus.

He said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Friday the same thing is happening with the issue of marriage that happened with gays’ service in the military.

Changes in attitudes by military leaders, those in the service and the public allowed the repeal by Congress of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that will eventually allow gays to serve openly in the military.

Gay marriage is still not legal in most states. President Barack Obama recently said his feelings on the gay marriage issue are evolving, but he still believes in allowing strong civil unions that provide certain protections and legal rights that married couples have.

      Hey, you‘re free to think what you want on any subject you want as long as you stay true to the principles of the party platform you’re running on. You know, like if you say you’re going to be fiscally responsible, BE it.
      As far as DADT, you aren’t supposed to be overtly sexual/sexually active/activist no matter WHAT your preference is while in the military. I don‘t care if you’re straight, gay, bi etc. I don’t want to know about it, and I prefer our soldiers not have to consider these things in any way whatsoever, especially while at war.

      For people who call progressives control freaks, you all have this weird issue with people’s sex lives.

      “We’re screwed”

      Yeah… gays marrying is going to destroy your life. Probably turn everyone else gay, too.

      Conservatives are so senseless sometimes. If you had any brains, you’d realize that the Democrats get gay support because they support gays. As a result, gays vote Democrat and the Democrats pass socialist bills that actually DO destroy your lives. And Democrats genuinely get to claim moral superiority on this one.

      Gays aren’t all socialists / Marxists, you know… they are just going where the support is, and who can blame them? It’s not like they are going to join a group of people who hate them. And don‘t say you don’t hate them; I can read. Don’t feign compassion. It’s just fear and hatred, plain and simple. You give conservatism a bad name.

      Is your heterosexuality a choice, or were you born that way? Do you remember deciding? Did you have to sit there mulling it over? I doubt it. Why can’t that apply to homosexuality? Why can your sexuality be predetermined, but theirs has to be a choice? Think about that for a minute: That logic says every person on earth who consciously decides their sexuality decides to be gay… now that is just idiotic.

      “But it’s unnatural”

      So are countless other things people are born with. Does it make them a “choice” too? Did Sarah Palin‘s son choose to have Down’s syndrome? Birth marks, cleft palates, dwarfism… none of these are choices. Neither are your hair color, eye color, height, or anything else.

      There are social influences too, just like anything else, but to call sexuality a “choice” is just pathetic. Gays are just as helpless about their sexuality as you, so perhaps you should “honor God’s wishes” and accept them the way they are born instead of forcing what can only be called a sexuality abortion. You‘re effectively throwing their souls into a rice paddy because you don’t like it. That’s truly sick. In many ways, you’re eugenicists yourselves.

      Gays are being used by progressives, and the only reason why it works is because conservatives mindlessly attacking gays. I can‘t believe you haven’t figured this out yet. They use every minority they can think of, and in this case anyway, you play the part perfectly: Ignorant, hateful people. All based on logic that’s the equivalent of shoving your head in the sand. There would be no gay pride parades and politicized events if it wasn’t for you people pushing them to the darkest corners of society. You’re creating this problem yourselves. Can’t blame this one on progressivism. It’s all you, physically and emotionally; you gave birth to them, and you shoved them into she shadows.

      Hardcore conservatives are just as pathetic as liberals. You‘re handing the enemy power at every opportunity because you can’t get your priorities in order, or even logically justify half of your priorities regardless of what order they are in. You’re also forcing your religious beliefs onto everyone else, the exact same way you whine about Muslims doing it. You expect “Muslims to be Muslims” without spreading Sharia law onto everyone else, yet don’t apply it to yourselves. How hard is it to just “let gays burn in hell” if that’s what you believe? Just get over it.

      In case you’re unaware: Gays are born from heterosexual relationships. STRAIGHT unions are what produce them. So if you truly consider them a scourge (you hypocritical eugenicist) you should be encouraging gay marriage and adoption, and never have sex again. Just the human race die out.

      Your narrow-minded hatred is killing American liberty. I hope you realize that. It’s YOUR fault. You’re following your delusion right down the drain.

      @whitetea gay marriage issue aside I can’t find any evidence of Biden possessing a functioning brain.

      Politico: “When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed,” Biden told Couric. “He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’”

      Time (yeah, really): “I started thinking as I was coming over here, Why is it that Joe Biden is the first in his family ever to go to a university?”
      — Joe Biden, during his first presidential run, lifting passages and even gestures from a speech by Neil Kinnock without giving credit to the leader of the British Labour Party.
      Biden’s problems continued when C-SPAN footage surfaced two weeks later showing Biden inflating his academic record at law school. (His claims included one that he finished in the top half of his class at Syracuse Law School; he graduated 76th of 85.) Though he later called the accusations of plagiarism “much ado about nothing,”
      “In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.”
      “Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be Vice President of the United States of America. Let’s get that straight.”

    Leave this alone. It’s meaningless. If folks want to marry others who are the same sex as they are it’s their business. If a Chruch wants to honor the arrangement that’s their business. If a Church doen‘t want to honor the arrangement that’s their business. If a state wants to honor the arrangement it’s their business. If a state doesn‘t want to honor the arrangement it’s their business. The federal government does not have a role in ANY marital arrangement.

    Make the government stick to what’s important. Cut spending/reduce government size, period. Every one of these silly side tracks we let them go down amounts to little more than a way they can stall addressing what they should address. It’s like teaching a 2 year old. If you give them more than one thing at a time to accomplish they get nothing done. Actually, Congress is worse than that. My apologies to 2 year olds everywhere.

    Politics surely can and does corrupt souls. Biden prides himself on being SUCH a “good” catholic. Uses the phrase “God rest his (or her) soul”, God bless you”, etc. so often that I am ready to puke. When it comes right down to it he sees only the politically expedient the cause of the moment . I am not religious at all but I think that if you believe in a particular religious philosophy you should either act on your beliefs or shut up about it. After all, where does he think he is headed, the presidency(?), another six years of the senate? He doesn’t seem to be faithful to anything but votes, and not even for himself He is going nowhere after (hopefully) 2012. The re-election of democrats has become more important than his God. More important than his soul.

    I think that gays just want the rights that married people have as far as the law. In other words if a gay’s partner died, right now they have no right to make any decisions for their partner even if they have lived together for a long time. Or if their partner is sick, they are not considered a spouse so they cannot make any healthcare decisions. They also are not able to be on their partner’s healthcare, or any other document or right that married people have. So, they need to fix this to be fair. People immediately think” Oh my God, not the sacred institution of marriage”, It really isn’t about that,it is about having the same LEGAL rights as straights.

      You could provide the same legal protections with civil unions without having to redefine or defile the sanctity of marriage. And even now you can legally designate your power of attorney to allow healthcare decisions to be made by the person of your choice. Perhaps the government should grant civil unions to all couples who apply, and leave marriage to the domain of churches.

      gay relationships and gay marriage are two different things. we allow gay relationships but not gay marriage. I think our government should have a role in protecting and defining marriage since that is where the next generation is raised to be law-abiding, moral, and productive (gay or not). slippery slope is a confusing fallacy. When the gay movement uses “love” as their reason for allowing their marriage, it is not slippery slope to apply that same arguement to polyandry, beastiality, or pedophilia. If two people love each other why not let them get married? I know the arguments, I don’t endorse any of those marriages. I only wanted to highlight the reason it is not the slippery slope that leads one to say those are next. Dec 13 there was a headline from sweden that incestual marriage laws were being debated as “illegal” too, and that incestual relationships shouldn’t be disallowed by government laws. slippery slope fallacy?

      Why should Government be involved in protecting something like this?! WHERE is that protection in the CONSTITUTION! For a bunch of Constitutionalist wannabe‘s in here you sure don’t mind trampling on it as long as it’s for your own cause.

      It‘s a state’s issue or a local issue. If you’re local pastor is open to marrying a gay couple, that’s on him! If he doesn’t want to, he doesn’t have to. That gay couple can go to city hall and get a civil union. Why not just get rid of the word marriage?

      If you are religious, you can get a religious union. If you are not or are gay, you get a civil union. Simple. Done. Next topic.

    What a simple minded fool. This whole gay marriage issue is a distraction from the really important issues. I don’t want to know about other peoples sexuality. Marriage is between a man and a woman to create a family. Relationships are based on friendships, and if adults consent to it, then sex. Marriage is a sacred unity to back up the strength of the family. Progressive mentality wants gay marriage to support the health care issue, and other centralized government programs that they know the homosexual community craves. They only want the customer base.

      @HIGHCARRY You have every right to hate homosexuals. I have no problem with that. You have the right, based on property rights, to discriminate against them on your property. There’s plenty of competitive businesses out there that will be more than willing to make more money out of your discrimination.

      TIFOSA you seem so Tolerant !!
      Because my religion teaches me that homesexuality is a sin, that it is an abomination to the Lord, I am suppose to give up my religious beliefs and my eternal life so that people can enjoy sins of the flesh ??? I think that is asking a little too much. I would die for my country, I would die for my family, I would lay down my life for My God…..but I will not give up my religion for sinners. If you do not stand against sin and evil then you are supporting them. Don’t ask Christians to give up God so people can engage in a CHOSEN LIFE STYLE that goes against nature. God say to deny yourself earthly pleasures. So these people need to learn how to ‘deny’ their un-natural lust just as we all must pray for strength to overcome all sin and temptations. Do some of you folks really believe that a ‘romp’ in the hay is worth giving up eternal life? That is what you are asking Christians to agree with. And if there is no ‘physical sex’ then there is no need for the GAY idea.
      Next you will ask that we approve pedaphilia and beastiality. Christians have the moral RIGHT to speak out against what we believe is sinful. Applying labels such as ‘homophobes’ is senseless. If Christians stand by and ‘agree’ to let Gay Marriage and DADT become acceptable in society, then we are not practicing our religion. Please keep in mind, Christians stand against SIN as we believe it to be. We can not support SINFUL practices because it makes us part of it. This country would be so much better if people spent the same amount of time on teaching people about God as they spend on spreading the work of the Devil. I am on a rant here, but I just do not understand why I am asked to give up my religious beliefs so someone else can serve evil. If a person choses to live a homosexual life style it is a sin just as worshiping false gods is a sin. Christians must work harder to spread the word of God and for Him to forgive this Nation for the sins that are being committed against His teachings.

      EP46: your religion…interesting excuse…er, reason…to use for supporting discrimination, judgmentalism, intrusiveness, self-righteous indignation. I don’t pretend to speak for Him, as some in here do, but it seems to me that any God would be ashamed to have such practices supported in His name. Pedophilia and bestiality just aren’t even pertinent topics to this debate.

      EP46 Those without sin cast the first stone. Who’s got the stones, bud? Last I recall, all sin was equal in the eyes of your Lord. Lying is as bad as murder, is it not? So whatever sins you have is just as bad as homosexuality. At least that’s the last thing I remember being taught.

      We are wasting our time arguing about Gay Marriage, Gay people can legally enter into to a contract with another consenting adult home ownership, power of attorney etc and call there union what they want. And when you break marriage down it is a contract between two people that the state recognizes. The supreme court will rule in favor of Gay marriage because it is a contract between adults. Now if you want to talk about about how the Gay agenda is left of Fidel Castro that is an discussion we can and should have.

      ‘Twas The Night Before Jesus Came’

      ‘Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house
      Not a creature was praying, not one in the house.
      Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care
      In hopes that Jesus would not come there.

      The children were dressing to crawl into bed.
      Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
      And Mom in her rocker with baby on her lap
      Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.

      When out of the East there arose such a clatter.
      I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
      Away to the window I flew like a flash,
      Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!

      When what to my wondering eyes should appear
      But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
      With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray
      I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY!

      The light of His face made me cover my head
      It was Jesus! returning just like He had said.
      And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
      I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

      In the Book of Life which He held in His hand
      Was written the name of every saved man.
      He spoke not a word as He searched for my name;
      When He said “it’s not here” my head hung in shame.

      The people whose names had been written with love
      He gathered to take to His Father above.
      With those who were ready He rose without a sound.
      While all the rest were left standing around.

      I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
      I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
      I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
      Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.

      In the words of this poem the meaning is clear;
      The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
      There’s only one life and when comes the last call
      We’ll find that the Bible was true after all!

I have a couple who are good friends of mine – 2 women – and they have been together for over 25 years. Some straight marriages don’t last that long. And who are we to judge that this is a sin? http://maboulette.wordpress.com

      True, authentic Christians have always stood firm against sin.

      False “christians” yield to the pressure.
      They evolve their thinking to eventually declare the ‘good’ to be bad, and the ‘bad’ to be good.

      The question is; Am I a true and authentic Christian, or a false christian?

Words to the effect of … ‘if gays and lez can now openly serve and fight and die for their country, why can’t they marry the one they love.’ We will soon see G&L military members filing for benefits and housing for their “partners”. Silveracer,
      If you want to leave the question to the church, then you would have to concede that any religion or sect has the right to define marriage as it wishes. That means that pro-gay rights churches have to right to perform as many same-sex marriages as they want. So do temples, synagogues and whoever marries Hindus and Buddhists.

If you’re out to COMPEL the states to adopt gay marriage, get the votes to AMEND the Constitution…Gay marriage is something new, it was not mandated in 1867 by the 14th Amendment. 18 year olds and women had to amend the constitution to compel states to allow them to vote.

      I agree that marriage is a religious term. They shouldn’t call it marriage. I was technically not married to my wife, we had a civil union in a court house. I‘m Agnostic and didn’t want to be married by a priest.

      I understand where most of you come from, because marriage is a religious ceremony. I also understand you want Government out of your religion, which is perfectly fine by me.

      Would any of you compromise and say homosexual couples can be wed as civil unions? The problem with not allowing them to have that commitment recognized by some authority is because married couples gain certain privileges such as filing joint tax returns, hospital visitations, and the misery of being married.

      It doesn’t have to be a religious event. Maybe we should stop calling it gay marriage for one. Although everyone considers me married although I technically never had a marriage as a religious ceremony.

      Are you all still opposed to a gay union?

      A) The goat could not consent to the marriage/union. B) The 5 year old is not a consenting adult and is not afforded many rights until they turn 18 and 21, respectively, for certain rights. So no, the 5 year old couldn’t consent to marry that “Muslim” man, as if Muslims are the only ones wanting to marry under aged girls.

      @P C BE DAMNED you honestly believe all male homosexuals molest little boys? Or female homosexuals molest little girls?

      I know a good amount of people throughout my life. I have yet to meet anyone who has been molested by the same sex as them. I have, however, known more than enough girls who were molested by their fathers or grandfathers or uncles or neighbors….. generally someone of the opposite sex. Heterosexual molestation is more of an issue than same sex molestation, although I’m no expert, I base this on my many years on this earth.

      Fear is a strange thing. I‘m a straight man but I don’t understand the fear of gay people. So someone is gay. Might I feel a little uncomfortable around them, sure. This is America right? Freedom is the cornerstone of this nation is it not? Regardless if you believe it’s a lifestyle choice or they were born that way, THIS IS AMERICA. Land of the FREE. That includes your lifestyle choice and your sexual preference. What business is it of yours what someone does at home?

      Seriously, you small government conservatives “keep government off my property!” types, this issue is a GLARING example of your hypocritical. You believe in individual liberties and for people to stay out of your life and property, unless you’re gay, then you can tell them how to live their lives!

      Until the Conservatives in this nation can finally STOP being a group of hypocrites, this nation will suffer. Both liberals and conservative are at fault. They just tend to blame the other side each and every time.

      american soldier..what are you talking about….us small government minded people don’t want to tell someone how to live…we just want them to stop forcing their way of life on us…gays want to take the sanctity of marriage and turn into some kind of freak show…they want their civil unions..let them have them…but thats not good enough…they both want to be the bride…they both want to be the groom…marriage is defined as a union between a man and woman period…so who is trampling on who…I see it completely different….

      @GodLovinMom
      Gays want to be married so they can have the same rights as a normal married couple (a civilian Union is NOT the same in the eyes of the law and these unions do not extend beyond state bounds). The bill is not forcing churches to marry gay individuals, the bill is forcing a gay union to be valid in the eyes of the law – as I believe it should be.

      Any true believer knows that God does not abide by the rulings of the USA – if He does not approve of Gay marriage no piece of mortal legislation will change that. If you take offense because churches are willing to marry them “before God” then you take that up with the church. We are a secular nation, the laws we impose are not God’s laws they are the laws of man. I believe two men who love one another have as much legal right to be married as anyone else.

      Biden is correct, although I don’t know his reason for saying what he did. But the flow of history proves his point. The world, and we as a country have gone through this kind of transition many times before. Historically it’s been forbidden to marry outside your religion or race. But those social prohibitions have, for the most part, fallen by the wayside.

      Blacks were prevented from joining the armed services (not to mention every other discrimination against blacks) but, once a strong leader – Eisenhower – ended that discrimination the world moved forward. The same happened with the women in the military and now the change has happened for gays.

      As time passes those artificial walls erode and ultimately collapse. You can say it’s wrong, and fight it, but you’re going to drown in the current of history being made (sorry for the high flown metaphor).

      SNOWLEOPARD, you’re fibbing. Your post rings false.

      Obama and Biden are riding what they think is a bandwagon. the problem is its not a bandwagon its a grassroots conservative movement that will remember how they screwed up.

      as for pulling our of Afghanistan lets look at our current situation with north Korea. if we had finished in Korea after wwII instead of pulling out we wouldn’t be dealing with yet another crazy little bastard with nukes….think about Afghanistan in 20 years…ugh oh brother

      I do not agree with you at all…and that is my right…marriage is between a man and a woman and if they want the same legal benefits as married couples…maybe they should rethink their lifestyle…or live with the choice they made and all that comes with it…but…biden is probably right…it is going to happen because that is how far America has sunk…still I do not have to go along with it…secular or not…

      @GODLOVINMOM VOTEBUSHIN12 beat me to it. They just want the same rights to be as miserable as the rest of us. Is it the gay’s fault that when you go into city hall they call it a “Marriage License” no. Feel free to change the name of this license. Since when should you even need a license to be married? I oppose this license outright! Allow them equal opportunities as a a straight couple would have. There are many perks to being married these days. I know some will say “You can get those same rights by filing this and that” well why should a gay couple have to pay extra for those legal documents while the married couple get it de facto?

      @JZS I almost seems like I get ignored or personal attacks. I’ve been feeling like leaving this site lately. At least when I post opposition on HuffPo, I understand their hostility towards me. Here, it‘s just so much hypocrisy it’s seeping out of their ears.

      @TIFOSA I agree, the newest post should be shown first, not last. Once there’s 7 pages of comments, it’s pointless to discuss anything outside of the first few posts, regardless of topic

      @GODLOVINMOM again

      It is absolutely your right to voice your opposition for it. Just like I believe the socialist and communist in this country have every right to voice their opinion for what they want as their country. The facts remain is in a Republic, the minority is protected from the majority. In this case, the minority (Homosexual) want the same rights under the law as the majority (Heterosexual). Had our Constitution actually followed, it would be a states issue. Equal protection under the law. Every man created equally. A priest or preacher has every right to deny a gay couples request to be wed. A judge, justice of the peace, whomever, who works for the Government cannot discriminate against gays when it comes to marriage. it doesn’t have to be a religious event but a legal binding commitment between two people that the government recognizes and allows them to receive the same benefits that a traditional married couple receives.

      Don’t you all get it? This is such a hot and controversial issue that we are all playing into it, again. The old DIVIDE AND CONQUER strategy. Works every time. They use the racial card. They use the social class card and now they are using the sexual orientation card. It’s a diversion people! Please do not play into it. We need to stick to what our founding fathers envisioned for America. Keep an eye on what the left hand is doing! Biden is one of many LEFT hands.
