Biden: Trayvon Martin’s Death Should Spark Gun Law Debate

Vice President Joe Biden said the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin should prompt a debate about gun laws, particularly the state’s “Stand Your Ground” statute.
“It’s important that people be put in a position where their Second Amendment rights are protected, but that they also don’t, as a consequence of the laws, unintendedly put themselves in harm’s way,” Biden said in an interview broadcast Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
Biden, a former chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said any such discussion would be a state issue, not a federal one. Still, he expressed doubt over the idea that carrying a gun makes people safer.
“The idea that there’s this overwhelming additional security in the ownership and carrying concealed and deadly weapons…I think it’s the premise, not the constitutional right, but the premise that it makes people safer is one that I’m not so sure of,” Biden said.
George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer, has claimed self-defense in shooting Martin, who was unarmed. Zimmerman remains free, claiming protection under “Stand Your Ground,” which permits using deadly force rather than retreating in a fight.
“I’m confident the people of Florida will debate and discuss whether or not this law, the Stand Your Ground law, whether is being applied as it was intended to [be] applied and whether or not as intended it makes sense,” Biden said. “But that’s a decision for the state to make.”

Homeland security just ordered 150 Million roundsof .40 cal hollow points. For what? You don’t use hollow points for target practice (you use full metal jacket rounds) unless you want to pay more than twice the cost to shoot. Point is why would this amount of ammo (not including rounds for M16s and shotguns) be thought necessary by our government for possible use against the citizens of the country? While a tragedy, it could have all been avoided had Trayvon simply told Zimmerman he lived in the neighborhood, but I guarantee he copped an attitude instead. My son is black, he’s in the JROYC and joining the Army after he graduates. He sometimes wears a hoodie and honestly, he looks like a thug when he wears it and I tell him so. The difference is, if someone came up to my son asking what he’s doing. my son would be respectful and tell them. It is all about respect, parents don’t teach their children respect anymore. If Trayvon had a little respect, he’d be alive today….I’m not saying Zimmerman is blameless by any stretch…however, the bottom line is Trayvon is dead because of his own actions….

Could your victim not have been on the street , but rather in an area that just could arouse someone’s suspisions- like maybe in a side yard and maybe looking in windows.
2. How -repeat -HOW- do you or anyone else know that Zimmerman continued his stalk, trailing, following, hunting, chasing, corraling, intimidating, wiolating civil rights, taking away voting privilidges , etc , yadda, yadda after the conversation with 911?
3. “We don’t need you to do that” Where is the inference that the cavalry is on it’s way? There is no statement made that indicates a crime was in progress. There is no cop that I know of that will hurry to anything, unless there is injury of death- – (unless of course they can get in on a car chase- then ALL betsa are off)? You don’t think so, call an report sombody suspicious, and set your stop calender.
5. The shot – According to reports, Zimmerman is getting his head pounded into a sidewalk or driveway nobody knows but EVERYBODY knows -FOR SURE That is the story. I believe those “witnesses” were after the fact If I saw someone beating someone, I’d have called 911 and stayed on the line while calling out to the people involved “I’m on the line with the COPS” stand down. But all we heard was a young man screaming from the 911 call. I don’t believe that Zimmerman was injured. I think that is all cover up. The VIDEO clearly shows no nose injury, no blood from a bloody nose and from what we can see on back, no head injury. And just how did the youth manage to attack Zimmerman and get him on the ground when ZIMMERMAN WAS THE ONE WITH THE GUN? How do you explain the Coroner’s office comments of no injuries to Trayvon? TRUTH IS ALL THAT COUNTS. SEEK IT. If I‘m wrong I’ll be the first to say so, but right now it appears that for whatever reason, Zimmerman was a zealot, he spotted this kid and proceeded to track him. HE was out for a killing. Now wail all you want to. It‘s a beautiful Sunday and I’m content to search for the truth, but I won’t argue about it. So when seconds counts, we’re suppose wait MINUTES for the cops to show up? If a member of your family is about to be shot in the face, execution style, you’re suppose to just be a good little citizen and run away with your cell phone at hand to call the police so they can clean up your family members brain matter off the wall of your own home? How stupid can you be.
Self defense is one of the most fundamental aspect of freedom and property ownership (property as in you own your own body and can defend yourself to protect it) and to say we should all just wait around for the police to help is beyond stupid.
No one knows the exact details of that night, but you sure as hell aren’t take my gun away from me. I carry every single day. I am not allowed to pull my weapon out until there’s imminent threat. I believe Zimmerman had his pistol holstered when he confronted Martin. Had martin seen the gun, he would have ran faster than he’s ever run in his life. The fact that there was a scuffle indicates to me that he did not have his gun drawn and only drew his weapon after being in a fist fight. Once there’s that much contact between you and the perp, any reasonable adult would have the fear that he could either be killed by the attackers fist or his gun taken away and used on himself.
If Zimmerman isn’t lying, if what he says is true, and it happened to me…. I would have pulled the trigger too.

The initial police report that was filled out corroborates Zimmerman’s story. The police report clearly stated that Zimmerman’s back was wet and grass stained, like he’d been struggling on his back, and that he was bleeding from both his nose and the back of his head. This corroborates Zimmerman’s claim, and eyewitness reports, that Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman, that he punched him in the face, and that he was bashing his head against the ground.
Yes, Zimmerman did outweigh him by about 40 pounds, but he was also an out of shape doughboy while Martin was a muscular football player and 7 inches taller. There is no way that Zimmerman would have been able to chase him down. Martin definitely came to him instead. Furthermore, the police never told or suggested that he not follow anyway. That was just a 911 operator. Not the same thing. No right to give lawful orders. But there isn’t even any proof that Zimmerman followed anyway. When the suggestion was made to not follow he said “Ok”. Later on in the call he had trouble expressing details, proving that he was a large distance away. There is absolutely nothing in the call indicating that Zimmerman chased or hunted Trayvon down. There is every indication that Martin doubled back as Zimmerman was returning to his car and confronted him.

So what’s your theory? It scares me that people like you sit on juries. You just believe whatever you are told, or in this case, what you aren’t told, but want to believe. George Zimmerman looks more Hispanic than Barack Obama looks Black and there is no way that the police somehow created some massive cover up to protect him here. They didn‘t file charges because the evidence didn’t warrant them to do so. This would never have been national news if NBC didn‘t lie about Zimmerman’s race, calling him “white” and lie again by editing the 911 tape to make it look like Zimmerman was only following him because he was Black. LIES LIES LIES. Nor did they mention that little Treyvon was recently found to be in possession of drugs and burglary tools at school when they were showing his 12 yo football photo.
