Bill Clinton Calls Obama‘s Deficit Approach ’a Little Confusing’ & Says Tax Increases Are a Bad Idea

Since 2008, politicos have wondered how warm the relationship between former President Bill Clinton and President Barack Obama truly is. After Clinton’s wife, Hillary, lost the Democratic presidential nomination so publicly to the freshman senator back in 2008, there have certainly been a few tense moments.
With Obama now recommending tax increases on the “wealthy,” it seems the two may once again be poised to clash. In an interview with Newsmax Magazine (a conservative publication), Clinton, who came out in strong support for Obama’s jobs bill, claimed that the president’s approach to the deficit ”is a little confusing.”
The former president went on to explain that raising revenues in an economic down time would be counter-productive to growth. This notion, in itself, will likely be enough to send the White House into a tailspin. With such a prominent politician railing against Obama’s proposed tax policy the year before an election, the reaction could be noteworthy. Clinton said:
“I personally don’t believe we ought to be raising taxes or cutting spending until we get this economy off the ground. If we cut government spending, which I normally would be very inclined to do when the deficit’s this big, with interest rates already near zero you can’t get the benefits out of it.”
Clearly, this statement is a blow to both conservatives and liberals, as the former have proposed cuts with the latter — led by Obama — pushing for revenue increases. He continued:
“I don’t think you can tax or cut taxes, I don’t think you can spend or not spend enough to get America back to a full employment economy until we flush that debt.”
“So what I’d like to see them do is come up with a bipartisan approach, starting with the payroll tax cuts because they have the biggest return.
These comments seem a bit more tempered when compared to the statements Clinton made in an interview with the “Today Show’s” Matt Lauer earlier this week. It was during this exchange that Clinton seemed to slam the Republicans’ arguments against raising taxes in the current economy (something he now seems to agree with, although some would argue he was more generally speaking against the Republicans’ push for lower t:

In addition to making these statements, Clinton claims that he’d like to see both sides of the aisle further assist homeowners who are in peril. Considering the foreclosure crisis, he believes that this would be prudent. In other comments that are sure to appeal to conservatives, the former president explains that the government should consider pulling back on new government regulations.
While he believes that the business community can be supportive of new regulations and standards, he believes that it’s a fragile time to be imposing these new elements on them. In difficult times, he says that “they don’t like to have too many things changing at once.”

Posted on September 21, 2011 at 3:43pmBill Clinton is single handedly the most responsible person for our economic collapse. His provisions in the Gramm leach bailey act require banks and mortgage firms take on more risky low and income and no income loan as a portion of any growth within their business. That meant at a constatnt 20% of all substained growth must be in the CRA market. Twenty percent in an industry that runs on a 8-12% margin is unsubstainable.

She and Bill together would completely tear our country down to nothing.
BUT…SEEING CARVILLE COMING OUT OF MOTHBALLS SHOWS US SOMETHING IS GOING ON.

If Bill could find a way to run again…he would win, we’re that dumb as a nation. With Hillary as president, he would run the show. Hillary will be hailed as the savior come to life.

Posted on September 21, 2011 at 12:06pmClinton was immoral in his days as President and leaned left BUT when he saw the people rising up against him he was not stupid enough to fight them back and go the COMMIE way. Both Bill and Hillary are intelligent enough not to push the limits and destroy our country like Obama is doing. When Obama became President, his first telephone call was to the Pali President. Can you imagine Hillary or Bill doing that? My vote is for Rick Perry but I’m just saying that Clinton would not have done the damage to our country that Obama did. I know Hillary and Bill are Americans even if they are on the left. I do not believe Obama is an American.

Posted on September 21, 2011 at 12:06pmIf tax increases are seen by nearly any reasonable mind as a “bad idea during tough economic times”, what would make a tax increase a “good idea” at ANY moment in time? If tax increases costs jobs in bad times, then it certainly follows that tax increases in good times would also cost jobs.
Are the people for tax increases really that stupid, or is that mindset and ideology purposeful? Either answer is tragic, but the latter should be considered treasonous.

Can you provide me with some facts regarding a flat tax rate and then some opinions on why you feel it is best for this country? I have heard a limited number of people throw that idea around and although I havent looked deeply into it, it would appear to be better than what we have now just by the name itself.
This is a serious question. I am not attempting to argue or dispute with you your opinions. I would just like the view of someone who supports it. If youre unwilling, can you provide sources of where I can get information on the pro’s & con’s of a national flat tax rate? Thanks!
