We’ve told you before about the George Soros-funded organization Faith in Public Life (FPL). As previously reported, Faith in Public Life received a two-year $450,000 grant in 2009 from Soros’ Open Society Institute (partially tied to the group’s work toward achieving immigration reform).
This week, the organization is, once again, finding itself embroiled in controversy. Catholic League President Bill Donohue claims that John Gehring, Catholic outreach coordinator for FPL, recently e-mailed leftist talking points and interview tips to the media. The subject at hand? The controversial contraceptive mandate.
The allegation is based on a leaked e-mail that Donohue intercepted and it comes during the same week that the Catholic Church plans to launch a religious freedom offensive. The top of the supposed e-mail, which is published on the Catholic League’s web site reads, “FOR BACKGROUND PURPOSES ONLY” and it claims that it was addressed to “Reporters, Editors, Columnists.”
“Given the charged political backdrop of this high-profile initiative — five months before a presidential election in which Catholics will be swing voters in key states — it’s important that journalists covering these efforts separate fact from fiction, ask critical questions about the Bishops’ sweeping claims and have access to Catholic experts who can provide clear analysis,” the email reads, going on to provide talking points as well as interview subjects that media outlets are invited to speak with.
One portion of the e-mail even offers up suggested questions that journalists can ask of the Bishops:

A screen shot from the Faith in Public Life e-mail "coaching" journalists
Earlier this week, here’s what Donohue wrote about the e-mail:
June 21 marks the beginning of the “Fortnight for Freedom” events, the campaign for religious liberty being conducted by the nation’s bishops. Fair-minded persons may disagree with this effort, but there is something unseemly going on when those who work for a George Soros-funded group are quietly providing talking points to the media. [...]
On June 7, Gehring sent a memo to his buddies in the media (a copy of which was generously leaked to me—click here) instructing them on how to handle the bishops. They should begin by questioning the prelates why the Obama “accommodation” wasn’t good enough. “You have to ask why the bishops can’t take yes for an answer,” he wrote.
Teaching them how to handle the “war on the Catholic Church,” Gehring advises, “Several bishops have used inflammatory and irresponsible rhetoric that conflates a process of working through complex policy issues with a fundamental attack on the Catholic Church.” He also frets over the politicization of the religious liberty campaign, an effort made possible, he neglects to say, because of the politicization of religion by President Obama.

Catholic League President Bill Donohue
Considering the notion that FLP purportedly sent the e-mail out to journalists in an effort to co-opt the conversation in its favor, The Blaze reached out to Gehring for comment.
“My position on that is that I’m not going to comment,” he said when reached via telephone.
After explaining that refusing to comment would likely create even more questions in the minds of readers, he reiterated his choice not to provide statements about the e-mail (read the full e-mail here).
“Gehring provides a go-to list of Catholic activists who can be counted on to subvert the bishops’ message,” Donohue concludes in his blog post. “It’s what we would expect from a George Soros group.”

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 7:59amYou may want to google the video interview when Soros revealed the magnitude of the evil that rests in his persona.
Soros was being interviewed by an attractive young woman who obviously caused Soros to drop his guard. Soros began describing how, as a 14 yo during WW II, he used to accompany his uncle (I believe) on rounds to the homes of Jews to confiscate their property. Soros described that he was absolutely euphoric and remembered this time as one of the best in his life.
At the moment he uttered those words, I had a flash to the old Rolling Stones lyrics “I was there when Jesus died….,“ ”rode a tank, held a general’s rank.”
I’d love to share my thoughts on what should happen to Soros; but, they would never be published. Just imagine the most hideous end for a human being to endure times ten and that should be Soros’ fate.
Having said that about Soros and being a lapsed Catholic as a result of many Roman Catholic priests being allowed to rape and ruin countless children, you have to wonder if this is all payback for church leadership looking the other way while altar boys were being bent over in vestibules across the land? When safeguarding the weekly take in the offering baskets is more important than protecting your children, there has to be a time of penance to be paid. These trying times courtesy of the Soros demon may be that time?

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 11:42amSo, I took the time to look up “welfare” as it was understood by the Founders and Framers of the Constitution and found this: ‘the state of doing well especially in respect to good fortune, happiness, well-being, or prosperity’.
Report Post »The concept of ‘welfare’ meaning government assistance or so-called health care to those the government perceives as “disadvantaged” or some other modernized definition of the word came along in the 20th century with the do-gooders who usurped the Church’s role in caring for the widows and orphans.
The Bible warns against accepting bribes ( it ‘blinds the eye’ to what is right and good), and “welfare” is really little more than a bribe in most cases and is given to garner votes for whatever party is offering it. While not necessarily defending the Roman Catholic Church, because their history is littered with the grief caused by bribes and the ‘love of money’, it is however despicable of that slimeball George Soros to involve himself in anything remotely called “faith”. He should come out and tell everyone that he is the Luciferian he has every appearance of being. His money and influence will rot with him as he will not be able to bribe the Lord Jesus Christ.

Sorry, idiot, stop letting Beck do the thinking for you. Hamilton never saw the General Welfare clause tied to taxation, but a seperate power. In the Butler decision, the Supreme Court held the power to tax and spend is an independent power and that the General Welfare Clause gives Congress power it might not derive anywhere else. Further decisions of the Court have brought the current unstanding of the clause in line with the expansive view of Hamilton. All Congress needs is to prove that there in a national issue (its hard to argue that health care is not) and the General Welfare clause allows for the Congress to address the issue. (See Helvering v. Davis, which upheld Social Security).

You Progressives and your pretzel logic, there isn’t enough time or bandwidth to unwind your insanity..
“The General Welfare clause applies to the States of the Union, not to the People.”
If what you claim is true, then there is no limit on the Federal Governments powers and defacto no Constitution.
“If Congress can employ money indefinitely to the general welfare, and are the sole and supreme judges of the general welfare, they may take the care of religion into their own hands; they may appoint teachers in every State, county and parish and pay them out of their public treasury; they may take into their own hands the education of children, establishing in like manner schools throughout the Union; they may assume the provision of the poor; they may undertake the regulation of all roads other than post-roads; in short, every thing, from the highest object of state legislation down to the most minute object of police, would be thrown under the power of Congress…. Were the power of Congress to be established in the latitude contended for, it would subvert the very foundations, and transmute the very nature of the limited Government established by the people of America.”

Okay you braindead Beckerhead, read the cases I cite to, read the comments of Hamilton (see I can point to a Founding Father also). The COurt has followed the expansive view of Hamilton in appling the General Welfare clause. With one of the few limits being that the issue being address has to be of National Concern.

There is no case that shows that the General Welfare Clause enables the Feds to provide universal healthcare, THAT is a Progressive, Socialist and Statist delusion….
“The General Welfare clause applies to the States of the Union, not to the People. However, it is certainly in the best interest of the People if the General Welfare of the states is promoted. Furthermore, even if this clause was determined that it did apply to the people specifically, it is clear that any benefit or enhanced well being should be general or applied to the whole and not a select portion.
Report Post »It is also not an enumerated power. It states the purpose for the Union and US Constitution in the preamble as well as the purpose of raising taxes, but the phrase itself does not create any power itself. If ‘general welfare’ was carte blanche authority, it would render the limits of the Federal government to the enumerated powers meaningless. Article 1, Section 8 is not a list of suggestions of power, it is a list of delegated authority. If a power is not listed, congress is not authorized to write a law requiring an unlisted power and would need to seek amendment to the US Constitution.
It is important to note that under the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution, many of the programs that have been created by the Federal Government such as Federal Welfare, Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, etc, would otherwise be perfectly constitutional under the jurisdiction of the states themselves.

_______________
True, but no case with those facts have gone before the Court.
So we need to look at the Social Security and other similar cases that have gone before the Court. That line of cases upholds Hamilton’s expansive view of the Clause. Fringe right wing blogs do not hold much weight, your quote on the subject is meaningless.
Justice Cardozo, one of the most respected men to sit on the bench:
Report Post »“Congress may spend money in aid of the ”general welfare.” Constitution, Art. I, section 8; United States v. Butler, There have been great statesmen in our history who have stood for other views. We will not resurrect the contest. It is now settled by decision. United States v. Butler, supra. The conception of the spending power advocated by Hamilton and strongly reinforced by Story has prevailed over that of Madison, which has not been lacking in adherents. Yet difficulties are left when the power is conceded. The line must still be drawn between one welfare and another, between particular and general. Where this shall be placed cannot be known through a formula in advance of the event. There is a middle ground, or certainly a penumbra, in which discretion is at large. The discretion, however, is not confided to the courts. The discretion belongs to Congress”

Yes, because PRIOR to Obama, religion DEFINITELY wasn’t politicized. It‘s not like religious undertones aren’t behind almost every international conflict prior to the twentieth century (and many conflicts following). It‘s not as though it’s directly BECAUSE of Christianity that homosexuals are denied equal treatment under the law, and that medical products, procedures, and research that would otherwise be completely uncontroversial (how do I know? Survey atheists, or non-Christians, and see what THEIR opinion on the subject is) not to mention beneficial to humans, are made into national issues. It’s not as though Christian Zionism is a thing and the primary reason the vast majority of Americans support the Israeli government no matter WHAT it does (which is stupid, because there are much BETTER reasons to support SOME of what the Israeli government has done and to support its statehood). And it’s CERTAINLY not the case that every single President in U.S. history hitherto, publicly at least, has claimed to be SOME kind of Christian or another.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 3:58pm@JOBOWW. Correct. The Roman Catholic Church had always been opposed to Marxism in all it’s forms. Karl Marx and Communism deny that humans have a soul. All human beings in a Communist materialist dictatorship are merely a bundle of atoms that belong to the government. Communism considers people as belonging to the state with no God given rights. Karl Maex wanted his beliefs to establish a “heaven on earth” and will destroy anyone or anything that stands in it’s way. It’s odd that a “Catholic” or any other Christian could be attracted to such a system. Liberals and the left have a particular loathing for Chriistianity and today are on the side of Islam, which even though it claims to believe in “god”, hates women and denies individual rights and freedom.

The cornerstone of Catholic social teaching is subsidiarity, that is, nothing should be done by a larger organization that can be done by a smaller one. It’s a principle similar to the ones our founders intended, limited government and personal freedom. It’s the opposite of centralization and the welfare state. Now I‘m not claiming that the policy of subsidiarity has been strictly adhered to because it hasn’t. Matter of fact the US Catholic Bishops publicly criticized congressional efforts to reform the welfare system by decentralizing it and removing its perverse incentives. But to claim that socialism has always been part of Catholicism is false.

Look at the States of Europe currently and explain why Catholic dominated States support Socialistic Govs…
Look at the US, majority of Catholics support a party that advocates socialism.

one can defiantly say that those French “catholics” who sold out for the socialists are indeed materially anti-God; Yet it would also be important to note that not all of them are ‘formally’ so. Most French Catholics like Catholics and protestants have not actually been taught formal Catholic teaching that has not changed and continues to be held by the Magestarium. I would agree that far to many in the clergy and lay state failed those entrusted to them in speaking up, or in some cases actively deceiving their flock. Such people will be held to account by our Lord. ITs hard to say that French Catholics voted him in when less then 10% even attend mass which is mandatory, ( not optional) when you are Catholic. Those that voted as such dont know their faith and need instruction, so here we agree that there has been a failure in the teaching system to bring about the Kingdom of God.

if you have a problem with a minimal net to help out people i dont know what to say to you. Obviously if people take the opportunity to abuse government powers and continuously expand this security blanket to include anyone for any reason it is wrong.
Catholic teaching as far as government responsibility for the needy goes back to the beginning, It can be seen throughout history, even in Acts. Kings had three responsibilities 1) Lead and maintain an army for the protection of their people; 2) Protect those who cannot help themselves because of internal factors (mental, psychological); 3) Provide for the Widows and orphans that cannot provide for themselves. Too often kings failed this responsibility yet it was theirs because they were in charge of using their power for the good of the community. Now again this should never be abused, and far to often it is but dont mistake the wrongs done by certain Catholic politicians or Catholic clergy who failed to teach what has always been known with what the church actually teaches and wishes for her people to know. Posted on June 21, 2012 at 2:30amYou had better believe that anything funded by George Soros aka Gyorgy Schwartz will be subversive in nature. He’s the king of subversion. That’s what he does for a living. He sits in his ivory tower and he uses his hedgy hedgefund billions to alter elections, and to sway public opinion, by all the media and politicians that are bought and paid for by him! And he does this in all the countries in the West! In other words, he‘s got his dirty hands in everyone’s pie, and nation’s resources! They know him well in Europe, and they are well acquainted with his Fabian Socialist bullying tactics.
He’s wanted for insider trading in France. He has brought down the economies of at least four nations, and admitted that he broke the bank of England. And he profits on it! I mean this guy should be behind bars. Why isn’t he? Because, as I said, he works in the shadows and he buys up all the politicians and the media. That’s why.
Money talks! And this guy walks! Whereas most of us would be behind bars long ago.
Criminals with impunity is what most of these globalists are! They’re living on borrowed time because the people are waking up, and they’re tired of being the pawns in their tyrannical game!

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 2:01amI guess there will be at least 2 Catholic votes, biden‘s and pelosi’s, for the liar-in-chief. That the Church has not yet ex-communicated either of these pathetic lowlifes makes one wonder about the sensibility of the Church. The Church must put their trust in God giving glory and honor to Him in everything and not cowtow to this evil admin. He alone has the power to bring this admin down. Question is will He help a nation that has become the most wicked, corrupt, and immoral in its history, turning against God, blaspheming His Name, disavowing His existence, removing His Name from being spoken in public, and living unrighteously defying every commandment given us?

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 9:28amagain excommunication is not a political tool, it is used to put the person out of the church in order to draw them back into communion. These politicians that continue to support teachings that are against the church are providing material support for the cause and in doing so have excommunicated themselves defacto. If your problem is that no official statement has been issued then im sorry but you fail to understand that an automatic excommunication is already in place. Part of the problem is that even if a formal excommunication were issued it would only be used by such politicians to batter the church with. They know what they are doing is wrong. Catholics who actually practice the faith are not scandalized because we know they are public sinners and have further seperated themselves from the body of Christ. Those that need to see formal expositions of such issues need to understand this and actually learn what the church teaches on such

I am glad that you knew the state of his soul at the moment of his death. Was what he did good? NO!! In fact it was deplorable and evil in every fashion yet you have no knowledge as to whether he repented in his last weeks, I dont know either. Perhaps he did, should he be denied a funeral? Take up your rock when you are ready. I personally would not have had a funeral within the confines of the church but that is up to the priest there who celebrates the mass
Why are they allowed the sacraments? Perhaps the Catholic Church should realize that being silent about those members who continue to go against church teachings is getting to be pretty lame, and pretty expensive.
Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the actual information that is out there regarding this type of situation. Cardinal Burke who head the Supreme Court of the Vatican has again and again made it know that such unrepentant behavior should always be denied the sacraments. Now if a Bishop or priest does not listen to the good Cardinal or the Popes throughout the ages on such behavior there is not too much that can be done because far to many are trying to be pastoral rather than orthodox in their office.
If its expensive that people are scandalized that problems exist perhaps they should ask who made Judas an apostle

Get acquainted with Archbishop Chaput, new AB of Philly. A singular man, stands for truth. Read his newest short book available for Kindle apps for very little $: A HEART ON FIRE: Catholic Witness and the Next America or his book of about 2008, RENDER UNTO CEASAR.
Excellent writer, excellent Christian and excellent AB–good complement on the east coast for Cardinal Dolan and Bishop Lori who was just moved to Baltimore to be closer to DC, since he is called on to represent the Catholic stand in hearings before Congress.
Pray that the Church will grow, mature, and correct course as the Lord would have us do for His Purposes!
