Bill Maher, Michael Moore Back Tony Bennett on His America ‘Caused’ 9/11 Comments

Bill Maher and controversial filmmaker Michael Moore defended singer Tony Bennett’s earlier comments this week that America “caused” the Sept. 11 attacks.
Bennett later clarified and apologized for his remarks, but on “Real Time with Bill Maher” Friday, Maher said there’s now a “club” of people “accused of 9/11 hate speech” for simply stating their views.
“I‘m not offended by what he said and I think it’s a brave thing to say,” Moore said, agreeing with the sentiment that American policies provoked a terror response.”If you have a pitbull in your neighbor’s backyard and you keep kicking that pitbull and then the pitbull bites you, you don’t say, oh hey why did that pitbull bit me? Cause you’ve been kicking the dog!” Moore said.
Former Democratic Congresswoman Jane Harman disagreed, saying that while the First Amendment protects Bennett’s right to say what he wants, when it comes to events like Sept. 11 or the Holocaust, “a lot of people take it very personally and that’s totally understandable that they do.”
Maher cut in at that point to say there needs to be “an adult discussion” where it‘s understood that comments like Bennett’s have nothing to do with the individuals who died on Sept. 11.
“Nobody is saying that those specific people who died had it coming. No one is saying that. That’s how it becomes interpreted,” Maher said. “What we’re saying is that the United States has almost half a million troops in over 150 countries around the world. That is an empire. If you want to have an empire, and this country by its acquiescence of that fact certainly does, if you want to have that big a footprint, yes, there is going to be some kind of blowback.”
Moore agreed, saying Bennett’s remarks generated so many threats this week on “AM hate radio” and recalled his own now-infamous comments about the “fictitious reasons” behind the Iraq War during his 2003 Oscar acceptance speech.
Watch the full HBO segment, via Mediaite:
In the same appearance Friday, Moore also defended the health care law and similar ones around the world, saying the only “things you maybe have to wait for” are knee replacement surgery or cataract treatment.
“Things that are not life-threatening,” Moore explained. “The reason why you have to wait sometimes in those countries is they let everybody in the line. We make 50 million people out of the line so the line is shorter, so sometimes you have to wait as long. If you are a patriotic American, you want every American to be covered the same as you. No, not ‘I’m going to get ahead because I have health insurance and they don’t.”

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 11:53amI usually disagree with Maher and Moore on nearly every word they say, however in this story, if you read their qoutes they sound perfectly reasonable. I know that doesn’t sit well with those who buy into the “they only hate us because of our freedom” nonsense, but it certainly makes a lot more sense that the hate is caused by our presence in their lands and politics. Very qualified and conservative experts in middle east relations, such as Michael Scheuer explain blowback and also agree with Ron Paul (and Maher, Moore, Bennett and many others).
Report Post »In fact those who get angry at the concept of our aggressive foreign policy causing resentment and aggressive retaliation, only want to hear that America is the greatest and can do no wrong. The things that made America great in the first place like liberty, individuality and true free market capitalism have been hijacked by the progressive movement for the past 100 years. If you honestly believe that our government can do no wrong and does nothing but good around the world, then maybe you are too naive for your own good.
It seems to me that what todays “conservative” (actually neocon is the correct description) uses to determine who is a good conservative is how much one hates those who disagree with him. The more one hates opposing opinions, the better “conservative” he is. Traditional American conservatism is rooted in Christianity, which has no place for the hatred and vitriol that neocons spew.

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 11:58amOk, I’ll take the bait. So here is a question for all the flag wavers here at the Blaze, China decides due to their economic interest (a $1.2 trillion dollar loan) in the United States to set up six Chinese military bases around the US. Obama fearing the Chinese will dump their T-bonds, oks the Chinese bases. In addition to the bases, the Chinese start flying drones around the US to monitor activities of the new patriot militias that have been taking pot shots at the Chinese bases.
Do you feel betrayed by your government? Do you take action to force the Chinese to leave your country? Are you willing to do anything, including giving your life, to destroy the Chinese bases? Would you be willing to participate in a mission that would involve taking action against the Chinese in China? Do I have to go on with these questions, or can you thick skulled, blind sheeple get the picture? Walk in another man’s shoes for just a little while, before you let your emotions take control of your brain.
This was blowback and escalation, we do it, too. This will continue, and you “patriots” will lose all your beloved freedoms because of it.

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 12:17pmGo back and read the arguments of prominent GOP liberals as to why America should not intervene in World War I or World War II, striking dated references, and you would think you were reading the latest Ron Paul press release. George Norris and LaFollette Sr. were both vocal opponents of World War I, for instance, blaming “greed” (LaFollette) and “munition” makers, the early 20th century version of Paul’s attacks on “neoconservatives” or the military-industrial complex.
The one prominent exception on this score was the decided anti-New Dealer, Ohio Senator Robert Taft. Senator Taft was viewed as the pre-eminent conservative in his time in the U.S. Senate (elected in 1938, he died as the new Senate Majority Leader in 1953). But even Senator Taft ran straight into a part of the problem that Congressman Paul is encountering. While he was known as “Mr. Republican,” Taft’s non-interventionist streak which was considerable and thoroughly cloaked in the language of constitutionalism was seen by conservatives in the day as a confounding break with his conservatism. Snapped Taft’s thoroughly conservative Uncle Horace Taft (brother of Taft’s presidential father William Howard Taft) to conservative friends over his nephew’s unwillingness to understand the danger posed by Adolph Hitler: He (Robert Taft) was “one of the best fellows in the world but dead wrong on foreign policy.”

Then what does the State do? It tells the people that they ARE the State, and by more or less political guilt trip, makes individuals feel they have to support the State and their unholy occupations.
What should we as the people do? First, disassociate yourself from the State, secondly, acknowledge that the State’s actions can be bad, just as they can be good.

THEN EXPLAIN THIS.
What Jefferson heard when he went with John Adams to wait upon Tripoli’s ambassador to London in March 1785. When they inquired by what right the Barbary states preyed upon American shipping, enslaving both crews and passengers, America’s two foremost envoys were informed that
“it was written in the Koran, that all Nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon whoever they could find and to make Slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Mussulman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise.”
Ambassador Abd Al-Rahman did not fail to mention the size of his own commission, if America chose to pay the protection money demanded as an alternative to piracy
The level of tribute demanded began to reach 10 percent of the American national budget, with no guarantee that greed would not increase that percentage, while from the dungeons of Algiers and Tripoli came appalling reports of the mistreatment of captured men and women.
Were we in pushing our exceptionalism at this time? It would be wise to understand history of the enemy of the United States Of America before you defend them. This way your posts don’t seem awash with stupidity and ignorance.

Then explain this quote told to Jefferson and Adams when they asked why American men, women and children were being attacked, sold into slavery, raped and killed.

Were we in Afghanistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Beirut, Africa,or anywhere in the middle East? Were we supporting Israel at the time? Why then would they attack America. Could it be BECAUSE THEIR IDEOLOGY COMMANDS THEM TO? Or would that just be to freakin simple.

China would have to be invited by the ruling goverment to set up shop here. Or war upon us and conqueror us as Islamic Ideology mandates all good Muslims to do. No I’m not implying China is an Islamic country. I‘m implying that Islam is a conquering iridology weather we’re there or not.
Do us all a favor explain to all of us here why Muslims said this over 200 years ago to two Americans who asked why they were attacking men women and children, driving them into slavery, rapping and murdering them. Posted on September 24, 2011 at 4:16pmSteve Let’s see, because this scenario was brought up ten years ago, it’s irrelevant. Your examples of Islamic aggression is over 200 years old, yet it is relevant to today’s problems?
So let me understand you. All Muslims are bad because they have a flawed religion which advocates violence and aggression. There is no living with these people, so we are going to have to kill them all to stop them. 9/11 was an act of aggression by this religion on a “peace loving, Christian nation that has done nothing to deserve this type of terrorist action”. Four thousand tragic deaths that day, must be answered by close to one million additional deaths of guilty and mostly innocent Muslims. We as Americans are bound by our Constitution to bomb nations that harbor members of this religion. Our mission will be over when every last Muslim is dead and every Koran burned. Then and only then will the Islamic threat be over, until then we will bomb and kill, send our kids to be killed and maimed, give up our basic rights here at home and bankrupt our country doing this. Do I understand the “problem” now?

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 5:47pmWell lets see.Islam and it being our fault for 9/11 is the subject not some ridiculous comparison that makes no sense.
My example of 200 years ago shows the ideology of it’s aggression to non believers you silly fool. Its wasn’t as Paul said or the stats he uses. His and your understanding of Islam is wrong.
All Muslims follow a political ideology that mandates that the world submit to it’s rule weather they convert or not. That is not a religion that is a political ideology.
I never said we cant live with them it’s they who cannot live with us. and as for killing who exactly is doing that?
Explain to me what exactly is an innocent Muslim. Someone who only subscribes to a quarter or a half of what the Koran, hadiths and Sira command?
If your implying we slaughter every Muslim then that would be kind of silly wouldn’t it. Then again your post in general is silly. Bound by our constitution come on what are you in 11th grade?
You understand nothing. Your idea to slaughter all Muslims in the name of peace is rather silly. We as a compassionate nation must wait for them to slaughter us first then we can PROTECT OUIRSELVES from their aggression. Let me make a suggestion. When Islam does raise it’s ugly head here in the States again can you submit your name and those of your family to be the first to become American Martyrs. That way those like you who embraced Islam and defended it‘s mantra The Religion Of Peace will be the first to feel it’s Loving sting.

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 7:06pmSure Steve there are no “innocent” Muslims due to their beliefs of what is written in the Koran. If they are guilty by belief, then what is your solution. I really love how our government has convinced the people that the Islamic threat is real and at everyone’s doorstep. The latest boogyman to be afraid of. It’s as if our government has used “1984” as a playbook to control the minds of the people.
So Steve, you seem to have all the answers. What’s next bomb Iran (they have really scary beliefs, a crazy leader and maybe, just maybe, WMDs? Or should we take on North Korea with their nukes and crazy leader, concentration camps, etc… Aren’t there some more countries in Africa that we could bomb? How about those damn Chinese with their $5/day labor and rigged currency, shouldn’t we carpet bomb them (then we don’t have to pay them back the trillion bucks we owe them)? How has Government convinced us of the Islamic threat. Students of history only have to understand it’s murderous culture of the past 1400 years and early American history. Did our early goverment convince our small nation that Islam was a threat when it went to war for the first time? As John Adams said “We ought not to fight them at all unless we determine to fight them forever” So we opted on the side of peace and paid them what amounts to jizya tax. Till The level of tribute demanded began to reach 10 percent of the American national budget, with no guarantee that greed would not increase that percentage, while from the dungeons of Algiers and Tripoli came appalling reports of the mistreatment of captured men and women. Yusuf Karamanli, the pasha of Tripoli, declared war on the United States in May 1801, in pursuit of his demand for more revenue. That was over 200 years ago. Your misrepresentation of the facts about the threat shine a glaring light on your lack of knowledge of Islam and blame America for it’s hatred towards us.
I’m not saying that tomorrow we will fall under Sharia. What I am saying is that Islam as presented from folks such as yourself and Dr. Paul give at best inaccurate information while applying left wing talking points.

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 11:03amYou have to give these two twisted liberal idiots some credit for getting rich off the fools that support them, I personally think being a brainless clown appealing to dumb sheep does not make one smart. Would not waste a dime or a minute of time listening to either of these freaks. I find little Billie Maher even more disgusting than big Mike! They should have a brain storm meeting soon and get Maxine Waters, Pelosi, etc to speak

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 11:13amThe fact that they got rich and have an audience at all is pretty telling about what we get with a public school education (aka BS indoctrination). This country seems to have been stuck on stupid the past 40 years.

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 10:57amDon’t you just love these people that made their money through a Capitalist system, then bash everything about it and America. It isn’t just Bennet that is senile, Maher and Moore have early dementia. That is the sickness of the liberal mind. The sad thing is that Alzheimers is a devasting disease, these people have a self inflicted disease of the mind. That, and just plain stupidity. I wish they would all leave America and go to Iran, Cuba, somewhere, anywhere but America. All of Hollywood too. Its time we had decent movies with morals and wholesome story lines. Take Morgan Freeman with you please. Acting does not make you intelligent, it only means you can read script.

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 10:56amAmerica didn’t “cause” 9-11.
The CIA PERPETRATED 9-11.
Ron Paul didn‘t agree with Bin Ladin’s “motives” for 9-11.
Ron Paul simply repeated what Bin Ladin stated himself (in a more-than-likely CIA-produced video), that the reason the WTC was attacked was because the financing of foreign wars on their “holy” soil.
If Bin Ladin really wanted to attack the base of financial terrorism for wars on their “holy” soil, then he would have attacked the FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS who finance all the foreign incursions.
He didn’t.
The reasoning behind the 9-11 attacks was a farce. It wasn’t to attack the financial district as Bin Laden (CIA asset Tim Osman) wanted us to believe.
The reason 9-11 was perpetrated BY OUR OWN GOVERNMENT was to disarm us and initiate us into the globalist police state.
They have been unimaginably successful, nullifying every single amendment of the Bill of Rights.
Are you awake?

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 11:31amIn some way greed did cause 9-11. We had to pay below market oil prices so we supported the saudi toryal-cut deals with them to pay less oil then any one else. And greedy for military bases there from which we can control the world[especially the muslims who se dictators did our bidding in the cold war and didn't hesitiate to torture and kill all muslim leftists or funadamentalists].Our greed fo , cheap oil, military bases ,power and influence in faCT DID LEAD TO 9-11 WHEN THOSE UPPITY SAUDIS SHOWED US THAT WE COULD NOT BE SURE OF ACTING IN THE WORLD FOR OUR GREEDY INTERESTS WITH IMPUNITY ANY MORE.

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 10:53amThe following comment was posted by Moore on his own website shortly after 9/11/2001. He promptly flushed it down the memory hole after condemnation by even his lefty friends:
“Many families have been devastated tonight. This is just not right, They did not deserve to die. If someone did this to get back at Bush, then they did so by killing thousands of people who DID NOT VOTE for him. Boston, New York, D.C., and the planes’ destination of California—these were the places that voted AGAINST Bush.”
So in Moore’s twisted world, the terrorists would have been justified in attacking Utah or Wyoming but not New York. That quote alone is why I cannot watch this cretin on TV.

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 10:46amVan Jones, Bill Maher, Michael Moore, and Bennett — Ultimate examples of people who refuse to see what is really going on, mass conspiracy theories of conveinence for their ideology, and then use it to push their own agendas.
Look at how this particular theory has come to evolve now — especially with these four idiots:
a. Bush bombed the WTC.
b. Cheynee bombed the WTC.
c. America bobmed the WTC for our terrorist activities.
So what will be the next incarnation of this for these idiots to spew when this is also proven to be nothing more than another progressive-socialist lie and fabrication?

Posted on September 24, 2011 at 10:43amThe only problem with the argument about taking people out of line for knee replacemnts etc is that the doctor performing them are specialists and so would not be involved with those needing critical care such as bypass surguries. So now you are saying in a free market a person does not have the right to choose their procedures in concert with their doctor, you now have government bureaucrats deciding who gets what based on the government dollar. This is what is flawed with one size fits all socialized medicine, and this is what opponents to Obummercare are against, not people recieving medical care they need. Does this argument also suggest the the same bureaucrats will redirect doctors to perform procedures they normally wouldn’t do? The government can not give to one person that which it has not already confiscated from another!

But one cannot get around what Jefferson heard when he went with John Adams to wait upon Tripoli’s ambassador to London in March 1785.
