Ok, to be fair, I don’t think they really intended to bury themselves. From all accounts, it seems these Russian military men were using their artillery gun to dislodge snow as an avalanche prevention measure in North Ossessia.
Still, they were a little too close for comfort and, oddly enough, giggled in good spirits as a wall of snow bounded down on them:

Posted on March 22, 2011 at 7:20pmIts North Ossetia, not “North Ossessia”. You’d think after the war in Georgia no editor would get that one wrong…. Heck, it even says it on the video.

Posted on March 22, 2011 at 12:40pmA couple of years ago I saw some U.S. Parkservice employees do exactly the same thing. Create a man-made avalanche using a 105mm arty piece and bury themselves.

Posted on March 22, 2011 at 12:59pmSearch “avalanche control” and you will see it is done like this all over the world. You think these guys are crazy, some are up there on skis, toss a timed charge, and fly down the hill like a bat outta hell. Better to purposely bring it down, than to try and dig people out of 30+ feet of snow when it decides to let loose on its own. I have seen this done in Yosemite and Squaw Peak many times.

Posted on March 22, 2011 at 12:02pmToo Funny! In all fairness, you can see several different edges breaking off to make the massive avalanche, so I imagine they did not intend for this to happen. Looks like they had a good laugh though.

Posted on March 22, 2011 at 12:05pmSheer size of Russia and the huge amount of simple peasants they could gather up to fight. Hitlers ego. The massive amount of American supplies that were given to the Russians. And last but not least the brilliant t-34 tank that was based on an American chassie design.

Posted on March 22, 2011 at 12:26pmThis is one of those metaphorical art films.
The soldiers represent us Americans.
The shells they fire represent the freedoms we’ve lost thanks to closet socialists posing as “democrats.”
The avalanche is the $#&@ storm heading our way which we have to prepare to survive and eventually dig ourselves out of.

Maybe they just missed their target, or simply are allowed to have some fun firing off their cannon for practice at the avalanches.

Report Post »Did they not fire a light howitzer at the mountain top? did they not bring down an avalanche on themselves? did they not dig out afterwards? maybe you should take your meds, your spastic mind is kicking in and questioning the obvious. If you find the title misleading maybe you should read up on reality, and how to understand it. the title says exactly what they did. GET A GRIP!

Posted on March 23, 2011 at 1:40amIts called a controlled avalanche. They do it to prevent bigger, more deadly avalanches.
Somewhat akin to a controlled burn.
