Bizarre: Officials Move School Bus Stop Near Strip Club After Parents Complain

School Bus Stop Near Strip Club Moved After Parents ComplainMYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (The Blaze/AP) — File this one under bizarre. Horry County School District officials in eastern South Carolina are moving a school bus stop that was by a strip club after parents complained.

In a report that seems almost too unbelievable to be true, WPDE-TV claims that children had to wait in the parking lot of a strip club in Atlantic Beach to catch the school bus.

Misty Umphries, a mother who waits at the stop with her children, says she had to explain to her 4-year-old the meaning of “topless.” WPDE-TV has more:

The mother of four waits with her children at the bus stop every morning. Windy Prince, a mother of three, also says the bus stop shouldn’t be where it is.

“I don’t want my children being picked up behind that. I’m not knocking what they do, but I just don‘t think it’s appropriate,” she said.

Even Joey Zilker, who works at the club, agreed. “I liked to stand on the side of my club, but as far as being behind it to get on the school bus, it’s ridiculous,” he said.

Horry County transportation director Jim Wright previously said the stop was the central point of four blocks it needed to accommodate. Wright was concerned that moving the stop to a community center that parents suggested would require some children to walk farther.

District officials have since decided to create two bus stops in the area. Fortunately, neither is at the strip club. How the stop was originally placed so close to a strip club is a question that has yet to be answered.

One idiotic decision followed by another. 1st one is obivious, pickup at strip club. 2nd stupid decision: Rather than have the students walk ONE more extra block, they create 2 stops, one before and one after the strip club. Can’t fix stupid.

You are correct. Can’t even understand how the strip club would be in walking distance of a residential area. Glad the woman isn’t knocking what they do. What most of them do is not pay any payroll or income taxes. Another example of why the tax rates are higher than people want. The underground economy keeps getting larger and larger. Really not interested in underwriting the topless.

If you answer your child in a tactful manner (and not make a big deal about it), they’ll accept it as an adult expression. Sheltering them will make matters worse.

Sorry but I see no problem with “sheltering” a 4 year old. There is a time and a place when we must explain this stuff to them, but not at 4 years old. In my opinion it is the job of parents to “shelter” their children up to an age of better understanding.

Having said that… what 4 year old knows how to read the word “topless”? If the kid asked, they must have been told what the sign said by either overhearing the adults complain or an older kid telling them. Parents need to remember not to discuss issues in front of their children that they don’t want their children to ask about, because kids hear EVERYTHING. I was reminded of this when my son was very young (3 or 4) and I was talking about something with my mom while he was watching cartoons, completely convinced he wasn’t paying the least bit of attention to us. I forget what I said but my mom cautioned “Be careful, because the walls have ears“ at which point my son turned from his cartoon and said ”No they don’t!” :)

@USAMama The lefties want our children at age 4, and even earlier, so that they can begin the brainwashing before the little ones’ outlooks on life are contaminated with good morals and truth from their parents.

My son could have read that sign at age 4. When he was in the 4th grade, he tested at highschool reading level. But that’s not the point. I do believe in answering questions up to a point, then I’d prefer to shelter, too.l

I agree. Just thinking a couple minutes here I came up with an easy way to broach the topic with the 4 yr old. Just say ‘Sometimes you run around without a shirt on, right?? Well, in there adults aren’t wearing shirts. That‘s why it’s called ‘topless’. It‘s not appropriate for adults to be ’topless’ in public.’

So now the stop will be moved and they can be picked up elswhere so they won’t have to be exposed to what a strip club is. Then they can arrive at school to be taught that 2 women or men having sex together is normal. Why do these school officials that moved the stop hate heterosexual women strippers so much?

Wow, this story is totally off-base. First, the bus stop was centered in the middle of it’s pickup zone many years ago because parents complained about some children having to walk further than others to meet the bus. Second, the bus picked up and dropped off kids during hours the club was closed. Third, this didn’t become an issue until recently when a local councilwoman complained AFTER her child reached school age and was at that bus stop. When she tried to throw her “political status” around the school board, they laughed at her and she decided to make this a bigger issue. Do the research of local papers, blogs and news reports in this area to get the full story.

I’m sure if we pass another levy and throw more money at them, it will solve the problem. After all, public schools only have our kids’ best interests at heart. /sarc

Further proof why I don’t trust public education to teach my kids how to tie their shoes.

Congrats to those parents for being true advocates for their kids and implementing good change.

Now this is discrimination, plain and simple. You can’t discrimination against a gay pedophile that wants to teach kindergarten, but you can discriminate against a single mother that dry humps old men to pay for her babies diapers.

I am wondering how many read the story?? They moved it from the strip club parking lot to two different area’s.. This is exactly what parents need to do to protect their children.. I applaud them.. I also applaud the owner of the strip club for complaining also.. we need more people like these to stand up and demand.. Crap in CA no one seems to give a flying crap and their children are taught the most horrible things in school to make the very few comfortable… meanwhile.. a whole generation have their brains twisted.. God help us.. but if people want to change things they are going to have to stand up and be accountable!

But wait, wouldn’t that mean more government control? I though tea partiers want the government to leave people alone and not tell people what they can and can’t do.

Or, is this just an exception because its a type of business you don’t like and then its ok for the government to limit where it can be located?

Apparently, no one can handle the truth. Answers to all follow up questions. The kid would ask.
No dear, You’re not allowed to know the definition of topless even if it just means to be without a shirt.
They walk around with no shirt on for money, dear.

Parents complained about something, school administrators said “F-U, we’ll teach you to complain” and they moved the Bus stop behind a strip club. The story will get exposed (no pun intended), the school will say “oh, we did not realize it was a strip club…” then compromise with parents. We have been around town with our school system playing these games. They are elitists who hate freedom, families and parents that think on their own.

Hang in there folks and keep ON THEM!!

More government common sense at work that you have the luxury and privilege to pay for. Once again, people in government have no commons sense. Why? Because it requires thought, thought which is foreign to them when they fail to work in the private sector. This is why no one should be government for too long. It is a mistake for people to spend all of their life in government

This is what REAL PARENTS DO! They watch for danger to their kids, and when they see it, THEY DO SOMETHING POSITIVE ABOUT IT, like getting the school bus stop moved to a decent location.

A thousand years or go or so (if you are looking at me though a child’s eyes), your would have seen my father and other like-minded fathers of children my same age, having a restaurant across the street from our junior high school limited to selling beer until AFTER 5 p.m. when all the children were long gone from the premises.

Hooray for the parents INVOLVED positively in their children’s lives. Our children need more parents with stand up and do something COURAGE.
