‘Black Hebrews’ Polygamous Cult Leader Pleads Guilty to Killing 4-Year-Old Boy He Thought Was Gay

An ongoing story out of Durham, North Carolina, is disturbing, tragic and virtually unbelievable. While the drama, which involves an alleged murderous cult leader, has been reported on for months, new developments have emerged. Peter Lucas Moses, who is said to be the leader of the Black Hebrews religious sect, has pleaded guilty to killing a 28-year-old woman and a 4-year-old boy. The motivation behind the latter murder is said to be the cult-leader’s belief that the young child was gay.

As a result of Moses’ crime, investigators are seeking the death penalty. The two victims, Antoinetta Yvonne McKoy and Jadon Higganbothan, were living with the man at the time the crime was committed. Their bodies were later found wrapped in trash bags and buried in Moses‘ mother’s backyard.

The uncommon practices and beliefs associated with the group are said to be at the root of the crimes’ motivations. The Huffington Post has more about the so-called religious sect that Moses led:

The 27-year-old Moses is also allegedly the leader of radical religious sect, whose members comprised a number of women and children who called him “Lord.” Moses reportedly lived together with at least three of those women, who counted themselves as his “wives,” and nine children and in a one-bedroom Durham home. Moses is the biological father of all the children, except for Jadon.

The Associated Press identified Moses’ sect as the Black Hebrews, whose members believe they have descended directly from the ancient tribes of Israel. The Black Hebrews are also said to believe that a forthcoming “race war” will leave blacks dominant and supreme, according to court documents cited by the News-Observer.

Here’s more on the case:

The fringe religious sect allegedly saw homosexuality as an abomination, which is what purportedly led Moses to kill the boy. His suspicions that the 4-year-old child was a homosexual were apparently predicated upon the fact that the child’s father had him and his mother (the boy’s mother, Vania Sisk, was one of Moses’ three “wives”). The cult leader also apparently claimed to have seen the child hit the backside of another boy.

According to reports, Moses shot Jadon, while playing the Lord’s Prayer in Hebrew — a bizarre and disturbing twist to the story that showcases just how intensely the cult’s religious beliefs played a role. Last year, WRAL.com reported the horrific details surrounding the boy’s murder:

Sometime in October 2010, Smith told Moses that Jadon had hit another child’s bottom, and Moses became angry and started walking around the house with a gun that belonged to Sisk, prosecutors said.

“He starts screaming, ‘I told you to get rid of him!’” and told Sisk, “‘How am I going to do this?’” Cline recalled the witness’ account.

Moses ordered two of the women to set up computers and speakers in the garage, prosecutors said they were told by the witness. They said he started playing music with the Lord’s Prayer in Hebrew, took Jadon in the garage and shut the door, and the women then heard a gunshot.

And McKoy, who also had a relationship with the cult leader, was killed for allegedly attempting to flee the home and escape the relationship. Sisk, not Moses, is accused of shooting the woman after she and the other women allegedly beat her for trying to leave the home.

      I agree. People like him do not need to be running loose. These types amaze me in that they pick up women and these women allow them to mistreat even their children. The whole cult needs to be in the insane asylum in Durham. They must have escaped from there.

      There’s a group here in Southern Israel. We took them in thinking they were Jewish; when we found out they weren’t they blackmailed us threatening to claim racism in the US. They were causing trouble for the people in the area; don’t know how things are now.

      I presume they were called Christian because of the name, to emphasize that they weren’t Jewish. They accept Jesus; I assume that’s why they were called Christian. Just like things are called Judaism in the US that deny the basics of the faith.

I thought you were all for religious freedom. How far is too far? What if the baby died because they believe in prayer instead of modern medicine? Is that too far?     Another in an endless amount of examples of extreme religious views gone way too far. Although many blaze readers have supported the death of gays, it’s actually shocking when it happens. But it is publications like the blaze and its followers that perpertuate this kind of situation. As a warning to so many, this guy will die because of his actions. Think he’s ready to meet god?

      Vaman– Most of the blaze readers do not support murder. We are too busy getting ready for what ever calamity Our prophet Glenn tells to be ready for. We are Christians that support Romney even if he does not believe in the Trinity and at times wears magic undies.       I don’t see anyone here ever calling for the death of gays.
      There is a lot of disapproval for homosexuality, and oftentimes I cringe when I see comments here applauding church leaders in the South who call for acts of violence against gay people (putting them behind an electric fence, etc.) but I have not seen anyone actually call for the death of gays here.

      In fact, there was an article posted here on The Blaze recently where a church pastor (sorry for the vagueness but I forgot his name) was preaching to his congregation about how the church needs to remember that we are ALL sinners and sins such as divorce and infidelity are just as serious in the eyes of God as the sin of homosexuality.
      I agree with that pastor and I applaud him for taking the stand to say something.
      We are living in an era that often forgets that homosexuality is not the only sin listed in the Bible and according to the Bible: we have all sinned and fallen short of God.

      Don’t you know that this all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful god knew this was going to happen eons ago? Nothing happens without god’s say so. God makes good and evil. It was ‘god’s will’, therefore where is the tragedy? You should be rejoicing that this boy is ‘in heaven’. You should be rejoicing that god’s will is carried out. In fact, every time a murder or a molestation is done, you should be thanking god since it‘s all part of it’s plan, right? Or am I wrong? Is god not in control? God plans everything but didn’t plan this? Maybe god just doesn’t care. Maybe it’s looking from whatever cloud it sits on and is just waiting for the right moment to come down and put a stop to it.     Did i say this site is the reason is happened? I was making the point that on one hand you all appplaud talk about death of gays but when someone actually commits the insance act as you all have talked about its bad?       Perhaps your lack of understanding the term “all” is the problem here. Speaking in absolutes seldom wins arguments, especially when the argument is this silly. Not “all” posters praise killing gays. In fact, few do and they are roundly excoriated for doing so. What is more incomprehensible is why so many come to this site when it is obvious they loathe anything posted here. I have read far more blood-thirsty and downright ugly postings from those who are self-professed atheists or just anti-Christians than from those who may or may not agree with “all” of the postings.     After seeing all the comments praising the pastor who wants gays rounded up and put behind and electric fence until they die as well as prasing the child pastor singing “ no homos gonna go to heaven” i thought this would be cheered by you all on the blaze. On one hand you all applaud talk of death to gays but when somoen suspects a kid is gay and kills them you have issue with it?

    I am agains tthe killing if this kid as well as the talk of killing homosexuals, but the lack of consistency on this site is amazing. You dont like activist judges but want the supreme court to turn over Obama care.       Christians pay taxes as well as athiest,if not way more, why is it atheist’s feel only they should be represented in public? Clearly the majority do not agree with them. You atheist talk about democracy but when you are on the losing end of it you get pissy. Why?     Odd that you never hear of atheists attacking gays, it’s always very religious people or religious “leaders”. Why do religious people hate so much? And christian values are superior to humanist values? Where are they hearing all this talk of hate?       There is evidence to support that Hitler was a Christian and the Nazi Party and Nazi Germany were supporters of Christianity. I do not see how Vladimir Putin is a Marxist when he is a member of a political party that goes against Marxism. In fact many Russian Marxist in Russia are against the government of Vladimir Putin.       Wikipedia as a source? And nobeliefs.com, an Athiest apologist cite? Take a look at their actions, not their words. Do those jibe with ANY form of Christianity? Putin was a KGB officer. They’re not really known for their Christianity. And if Nazi Germany and Hitler were such Christians, then how do you explain their persecutions of Christians?

      Yes, I used links from these websites. Do you suspect me using bias links from Christian websites? All kinds of people were persecuted during WW2 and died. Looking at information on the web it seems Christians were on both sides of the fence in Nazi Germany. People are crazy. Now about Vladimir Putin. Yes, he was a member of the KGB but that doesn’t mean he was a Marxist scholar. I’m a volunteer for Unite Here (union group) but that doesn’t make me socialist.       Take a look a little deeper and you’ll find that Hitler expressed his contempt for Christianity and his atheist viewpoints to his inner associates. And your argument regarding Putin cuts both ways. Just because he‘s a member of the Russian Orthodox Church doesn’t make him a believer.

    He killed the child because it wasn’t his. That type of murder happens more than you can imagine. The new husband/boyfriend/whatever will kill offspring from another male. It is probably similar to what some animals do. We share our society with people who are at this level and it is frightening. Build new prisons, buy more ammo, and elect tougher judges and sheriffs. Stop making excuses for the beasts, lock them up and throw away the keys.

    WHY ARE THERE SO MANY STORIES ON GAYS HERE AT THE BLAZE ? There are more important issues in this country that we need to focus on. Not to mention, Glenn‘s said in the past that he doesn’t have a problem with gay people, and that he might be ok with Civil Unions but not ‘Gay Marriage’.     I have had the pleasure of watching many videos by Black Hebrew groups on YouTube. Most, if not all, are racist and disgusting. Never have I seen people who I hate like the Black Panthers, The KKK, and Nazi skinheads. All this division and attitude that we‘re better than you and you’re evil and disgusting is terrible. America is a very diverse country with a lot of people who are not afraid to point out they hate someone else for whatever reason. I just miss the days when people respected one another regardless of different views and racial background. I’m a white Latino American who is in a relationship with a woman who is black. If our relationship can survive despite the different backgrounds that I can see many Americans getting along and respecting one another as equals. I just dislike all this disgusting hate and insane groups that will kill a young child like this and his mother. I can’t stand it!

    28 and a 4 year old, defenseless child… what a waste. Heartbreaking. A shame we can’t all come together to unite hearts and stem the tide of violence.       Sorry to tell you GW, but I never made a choice to be gay and I grew up in a religious household and family that frowned upon gays. If I had a choice, I would have chosen to be with the so-called NORMAL PEOPLE. Not the teased, picked on and beat up on people that were easy targets. A choice would have been an easy path filled with lies to myself.
