Black Pastors Launch Anti-Obama Campaign to Convince African Americans to Withdraw Support for the President

African American pastors continue their march against President Barack Obama’s gay marriage endorsement. Since May, when the president first announced his change of heart (read about his history on flip-flipping on same-sex marriage here), a plethora black faith leaders have struggled to understand why Obama has taken what they see as an anti-religious stance on the matter. Now, just months before the 2012 election, a group of black pastors is coming together to advance an anti-Obama campaign.

These conservative black pastors believe that a national campaign may be the answer to convincing African Americans that it is time to rethink their support for Obama. The Rev. Williams Owens, president and founder of the Coalition of African-American Pastors (CAAP), is heading the campaign.
“The time has come for a broad-based assault against the powers that be who want to change our culture to one of men marrying men and women marrying women,” Owens proclaimed at a press conference announcing the campaign at the National Press Club. “They have chosen to cater to the homosexual community, they have chosen to cater to Hollywood, to cater to big money and ignore the people who put the president where he is.”
While he’s said that it is an effort to save the family unit, Owens has given few details about what, exactly, the group will be doing. Earlier this month, we told you about his outspoken comments about the president’s views on gay marriage. And considering Owens’ past history, advocacy against same-sex unions is nothing new.
“I am ashamed that the first black president chose this road, a disgraceful road,” Owens proclaimed on Tuesday, according to CNN.
At the press conference announcing the initiative, Owens appeared with five other pastors and claimed to have more than 3,742 faith leaders on board with the initiative. He contended that Obama was taking the black vote for granted and denied any connection between the gay rights and civil rights movements.
Among the controversial comments was Owens insinuation that Obama’s support for gay marriage was similar to supporting child molestation — a comment he later walked back.
“If you watch the men who have been caught having sex with little boys, you will note that all of them will say that they were molested as a child…” he said during the press conference. “For the president to condone this type of thing is irresponsible.”
This is only the latest in the slew of African American responses to President Obama’s May announcement. Following Obama’s lead, the NAACP also endorsed gay marriage. As a result, The Rev. Keith Ratliff Sr. resigned from his national board post with the organization. Previously, Owens joined other faith leaders in writing a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and Obama, asking for a meeting to discuss same-sex unions.

You libs just do not get it. Conservatives are for all Americans having equal rights within the law. No special treatment outside the law. The homosexual agenda is contrary to that. They will not even be “tolerant” of folks who say they are FOR traditional marriage and never once mention gays or same sex unions. That is what Dan Cathy said; there was no gay-hate on his part.

I have gay friends and it is not my place to judge them or their decisions. But if we are to have a moral society that is based on God’s laws, which by the way America still is, then we have to adhere to all of God’s laws, even if we don’t like them. God made it clear that marriage is between a man and a woman.

The Founders knew it was a mistake to base laws on the Bible or any other religious text. That‘s why you won’t find the words “Bible” or “Jesus” or “God” in the Constitution. That‘s why we don’t stone people to death, a favorite Biblical punishment. That’s why we no longer have slaves in this country despite Biblical sanction, including the New Testement: “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.” (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)
Now if you want to live in a theocracy, you could be to Iran or other places of that kind. They don’t allow gay marriage there.

Sorry my friend you can put all the polls up you want but the fact of the matter is whenever this comes up for a vote it always gets voted against, even in states like California which is one of the most liberal states out there. Facts are there are only a handful of states that legalized it and no matter how many polls you show me… what people vote trumps all of that.

If you looked at the polls you’d realize that each year support for same sex-marriage grows. As much as anything that’s probably because old people with fixed opinions grow old and die, and are replaced by younger voters who are more accepting of people not like them and more sensitive to denying equal rights to those groups.
You know, this has already happened many, many times in the US. Women couldn’t vote, discrimination against minorities was legal and accepted and often based on Biblical interpretations justifying those discriminatory opinions, just as they are in this case. But times change, opinions change.
Again, good point. But you don’t have to be a historian to realize that in 20 years, if not sooner, this will be a settled issue and those against same-sex marriage will be grouped with other opposed to equal rights for women, blacks or whatever group you chose to name. In retrospect all these issue seem silly and short-sighted and sometimes worse.

I understand what you are saying however you are comparing apples to oranges. What you are labeling as “gay rights” is not the same as women’s, blacks, rights in the past. Women and blacks wanted equal rights as their counterparts which they got (i.e. voting). Gays already have the same equal rights as their counterparts.
The definition of marriage is a formal union between a man and woman. A gay man has an “equal right” to marry a woman just like a straight man cannot marry another man. If we change the definition of marriage then we are making “special rights” for a particular group not equal rights. If we do that it then where does it end, what if a man wants to marry a horse, do we give him “equal rights”. I know that point is a bit extreme but you see where I’m going with this?

Nor is that definition an interpretation some part of the Constitution. That’s the definition in DOMA.
Constitutional challenges to DOMA have already succeeded in several states and are headed to the Supreme Court. Perhaps you can find something in the Constitution that would give a judge a reason to believe this law is Constitutional but I personally don’t know what that could possibly be.
The government doesn’t have the Constitutional right to tell you who you can or cannot marry in my opinion. What part of the Constitution make you think the Founders gave that right to the Federal government?

I always find it comical when liberals try to use the constitution in their defense because most times the only thing they would use it for is toilet paper. I’d be interested to know if you side with the constitution with every issue (i.e. gun rights) or if you just pick and choose when you want to try and use it in your defense.
You are correct there is no where in the constitution that states that gay marriage should not be allowed however there is no where it says it should be. I agree with you that it should not be the right of the federal government to decide this. Anything not in the constitution is left to the states which the majority of states have sided with me. The ones that have not and have made it legal I disagree with but it is their choice I feel as long as the people in that state are allowed to vote on it. If 20 years from now more states have the same belief as you and I am in the minority then well I feel that will be the least of our problems.

But you do say that nowhere is the Constitution is gay marriage guaranteed or prohibited. That’s true, obviously. But the Constitution does guarantee equal protection for all US citizens: ” No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States.” I see challenges to state laws denying marriage of same-sex partners succeeding in the Supreme Court. The Constitution guarantees equal treatment of US citizens under the law. It seems impossible to me the the court would conclude that only true with some citizens and but not with others.
But hey, you mention the 2nd Amendment which reads, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
What do you think they meant when they said, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State…”? Wasn’t that because there were no police or army at the time and that we should have armed men availabe to defend our nation? Unfortunately, it has also become common to use the term plethora as an ostensibly impressive word meaning “many”. However, plethora correctly expresses the negative connotation of an unnecessary overabundance or superfluity. Writing that a plethora of black faith leaders are upset with President Obama conveys your opinion that there are too many black faith leaders unhappy with the president.

2. The MSM has no clue as to how the black community feels. Sure, there are some loud mouths out there talking about supporting Obama, but no other community has suffered more in this 4 year period. Right now, black folk are weighing their options. It’s easy for somebody to say race means more than morale. But money means more than race, going by that same notion.
I only wish they moved faster than this. But if there is time, there’s none better than now. it’s never too late to make a good change in your life.

Although he has only recently changed his public stance on marriage, ANYONE WITH A BRAIN KNOWS that obama has always been pro-gay marriage. And, as others have mentioned, obama is a rabid abortionist – he has condoned and promoted abortion, including late-term abortion and the post-birth murder of babies who survive abortion, for his entire adult life. How many babies have been murdered as a result of obama’s support of abortion? How many babies have been murdered as a result of these very same black pastors having supported obama in 2008 and since? But again, regardless of what has caused these black pastors to open their eyes and see the truth, it is good to see that they have.

I applaud the stand Rev Owens is making but if 140 plus years of oppression by Democrats and the last 50 years of institutionalized poverty at the hands of the Democrats hasn’t illuminated their thinking, this won’t either.
The irony is that most black people in America work for a living yet still support Dems as a knee-jerk reflex, but when your hopes rest on continuing a life on the dole you’d be foolish to vote against that income stream. And now that BHO has removed even the hint of a work requirement for that income any hope of prying those voters away is slim.

When visiting my grandpa in Texas, as a child, my grandpa would pull off the dirt road to listen to the beautiful singing from the black church if we happened to pass by. From that time I always assumed the black people were very religious and loved Jesus. I’m believing it cause I always have. Thank you pastors for standing for truth and righteousness.

It the gay community would have respected the majorities value they could have had civil unions with no problem but they have to stick it in our faces and call us breeders. Blacks don’t like homosexuality and especially Christian blacks so they may just stay home. Lets all hope so.
