‘Blasphemy’: Christian Groups Blast Johnny Depp for His Role in ‘Jesus Stag Night Club’ Song

Johnny Depp Angers Christian Groups Over Babybird Song About Jesus

Actor Johnny Depp (AP)

Johnny Depp, the actor known for taking on epic movie roles, is reportedly getting slammed by the Christian Coalition and Focus on the Family for his involvement in a controversial new song by the British band Babybird called “Jesus Stag Night Club.” Depp, who has apparently helped to finance the group’s comeback, offers his vocals on the tune.

Reuters writes that the song, “…recasts the Son of God as a booze-chugging party animal who revels in driving stolen cars and facilitating bachelor parties.” The Daily Star adds that it, “…tells the tale of a boozing, stolen car-driving Jesus look-alike who gets his kicks at lap-dancing clubs.”

The song is about a bunch of guys who go out to enjoy a bachelor party. In order to make sure the night goes off without a hitch, the guys bring a Jesus doppelgänger to get them hooked up with what the Huffington Post calls ”all the finer things that a night of madness requires.” This, of course, leads to a night of drunkenness and debauchery.

Johnny Depp Angers Christian Groups Over Babybird Song About Jesus

Here’s one portion of the song:

Saw a man in the street lying on the floor beaten up/ He had a fish finger sandwich and a yellow M coffee cup/ I bent down drunk and tried to pick him up/ But when I turned around I could see…it was Jesus…/ I can’t remember where I was last night/ Think I was hanging on a church spire/ Tied by my ankles to a weathervane

The Christian Coalition, among others, is said to be outraged by the lyrics. According to the Daily Star, Lee Douglas, who is a spokesman for the Christian Coalition, called the song “blasphemy” and purportedly went on to say, ”One day, Johnny Depp and his cronies will face the judgment of our Lord and they will burn in hell for this filth.”

Focus on the Family, another Christian group, apparently told the paper, ”We are sickened by Mr. Depp‘s behavior. Why did he need to record this song?” The group went on to say that the song is ”a slap in the face to Christians all over the world.”

Listen to the song, below:

Stephen Jones, the lead singer of Babybird, has responded to the controversy, saying, “Some people have no sense of humour.”What do you think? Is this all fun and games or do you find the song offensive? Take our poll, below:

      What’s so surprising about this?

I mean, anti-Christian haters abound among the Hollywood elites, who see Christians as people who are responsible for all the ills of Jews throughout history. And, it is these far -left, anti-Christian haters who control Hollywood, the ones who have no qualms about making it known that if a prospective star doesn‘t buy into the entire hate scenario they’re going to go nowhere.

Rush Limbaugh says actors/actresses are far left zealots, because of their natural, “touchy, feely” make-up, but he’s got this one wrong. These people are what they are because IT IS REQUIRED IN HOLLYWOOD in order to get work.

And, believe me, it is the Steven Spielbergs, the Harvey Weinsteins and the whole lot whose rabid loathing of conservative Christians who decide what kind of belief system and attitudes are necessary to go along to get along.

Do you think Depp, Sarandan, Garafalo, Alec Baldwin, and the rest of a long list of others, strut around mouthing despicable hate about Christians and “white males,” because they have formed a rounded, informed opinion of those religions and people?

Well, undeceive yourselves my friends. They are that way, strictly because THEY HAVE to be that way in order to get roles. Some of them even adapt those attitudes until it’s a part of who they are.

There is no hatred in this land today like the hate-mongers in Hollywood right now, who control things and are determined to “get even.”

Do this with Mohammed and see how much fun this is. Because Mohammed has no mercy and is evil to the core.
Jesus has mercy and still there is hope for these people. Remember Paul and others and myself.
So, Johnny Depp: Repend because the Kingdom is near!

Johnny is one of my favorite actors…I didn’t know that he did music too…he’s good..I liked the song and the way he did it but I couldn’t understand the words entirely…what I would have surmised is that he was getting drunk before getting married and that he whether just in his own mind or there or that Jesus was there calling him…I have not a clue.. Though to say that Johnny will burn in hell…it ain‘t over til it’s over…Johnny may not be a believer now…but that is because God has not called him..Many are called…but few will be chosen…let’s hope that Johnny will be called and chosen.

Writing this type of song about Mohammed would never even be considered because they wouldn’t want to offend Muslims. When it comes to Christians or Jews, we are fair game. It’s a sad, sad, world but it is biblical. At least WE have something to look forward to when Jesus comes back.

      Mr. Depp,

In the photo they use here – it looks like you are wearing Frosted Lucky Charms cereal as a bracelet. What is that?

No doubt you are a gifted actor. You have earned fame and millions from a cadre of people who range from adoring fans (who will never really know you as a person) to perverts and wackjobs who only wish to use you for their own ends.

Please consider for a moment that your talent came from God, and that He will be very interested in what you did with His investment in you. Consider that He both knows you, and yet loves you. Consider that fame and riches in eternity are more valuable than what you have now.

Its called selling your soul to the devil! They are sealed and delivered by their own hand.

Satan is not allowed to take you by force, you have to give yourself over to his devices, then you belong to him until you either repent or die, then its for all eternity. These people are going to be very surprised what awaits them when death comes to their bodies. Make sure your not one of them!

Seek God and deliverance from sin through Jesus, the only one who died for the sins of man so that the sinner could be rescued from eternal damnation and darkness apart from an everlasting Love and kindness that only comes from God. The false gods of this world are idol worshippers like those in Hollywood who worship Oscar, Emmy and the Stars on the boardwalk.

They have become lovers of self and haters of anything that reveals light and goodness.

@AVENGERK….if I wanted to look “edgier and cooler” I’d go with Dissection or God Dethroned. But since you seem to know the names of some bands that you can Google I’ll keep it at Deicide. Once again, someone from this site has missed the point of a post. People on here are offended by the song Depp sings in yet there are no stories on here about “Bible Basher” or “Behead the Prophet” by Deicide; which they actually wrote. What that tells me is that Blaze and its readers are looking for the sensational, anti-Liberal everything message so that they can use it to prop up their conservative values as the only true form of thought. You however find a remark like this as an attempt to look cool, while I see it as an attempt to show how absurd the messaging is. By the way…Behemoth and Absu are much “edgier and cooler” than Mayhem and Impaled Nazarene. But since I see where you‘re going with your statement I’ll give you cooler….Rotting Christ.

Jesus hung out with sinners because they were the ones who needed him most. Not because he joined in with what they were doing. Unless they repent, they will burn in Hell.

We are taught to love, revere, obey and serve our GOD not to make fun of HIM or degrade HIM. This act/song (?) is NOT “just a song”. It is more of the camel’s butt inside the tent! (We’re way past the “nose” being in the tent, guys.

Get ready for a real battle. Those not fully committed to following CHRIST will be shaken off in the ensuing darkness like water off the coat of a dog. We are taught to “abide” in CHRIST. Be good to look up synonyms for “abide”. as well as antonyms. Too many of us fall into the latter category.

Humbly pray on, AMERICA. CHRISTIANS, awake and pray without ceasing, not our will, but HIS. In JESUS’ name, amen.

Yeah, He is not mocked. Yet you still REFUSE to call Him by His actual, Jewish name(which translates to “Salvation”). Instead you call Him by a name which literarly has no translation at all and is just bits and pieces and pieces of 4 or 5 languages. The funny thing is, you wouldn’t dream of forcing a Mexican named Pedro to be called Peter. Actually to equate to “jesus” it would be something like Petrannosaliason. No, xians don’t mock Him. To hell(another pagan lie) with Depp in the name of our white lord jesus!

Please tell me I am making “too big of a deal of His name”. I love that hypocritical argument. Maybe tell me that jesus “has meaning to me”. I love that sort of relativism that places you above God in deciding Scripture.

So, if you want to call Him “Salvation,“ ”Annointed One,“ ”God and Lord,“ ”High Priest,“ ”King,” or many other wonderful names, Im sure He will know your heart and take it from there. “Quite pharasitical”? Besides the obvious problem with that statement, let me ask you, since you speak in all-inclusive, remove-the-Jewishness, malign-The-Torah words… what was Paul? What was Nicodemus? Have you been taught that progressive Gospel?

“Spirit and Truth”? Indeed.. the Truth is that His Name is actually written in Scripture. There is even the same name in the “old testament”. That name is Yeshua, it is not jesus. So, again… why would we not WANT to get His Name correct? If it’s there, why be AGAINST using it ALL the time? Yeah seems so petty to ask that you not put in some other word where one is already.

P.S. I don‘t think it’s the Name you know that is a sign of the covenant. That’s your mistake, not mine. I think it’s His Testimony and His Commandments. His Holy Days are clearly called the sign of His covenant.

That may change. They are moving to impose their Sharia law in several states. Subtle but still yet imposing. You can’t separate their religion from everything they do. That is why Sharia law is part of the Iraqi Constitution…you can’t separate it.

Well, if people go to he‘ll for what they do instead of what they believe about Jesus and His sacrifice fir us we’re all in a bit of a fix.

I used to like Depp, however after seeing him wear a Che Gavara pic around his neck , I decided not to support him. Fear God for he is just, is all I have to say about this song. When ppl invoke the name of Jesus one should shake in his boots if said in vain. Words of wisdom from someone who has been smacked down by God, not fun.

Dear Christians (Muslims or any other religious group),

I have this to say, if you don’t like the song, or what someone has to say in concern with your religion, then don’t listen to them, embrace your faith and move on with your life. Ranting and raving about it (or worse), won’t help you and will probably only turn others who might have followed your religion against you because it makes you look petty and unsure of your faith.

    Thank you,
    A Pagan.

Petty and unsure. Not hardly, but thanks for the concern. We’re instructed to rebuke those in error. If we didn’t, many would not know the error of their ways. However, ALL of us fall short in the eyes of God.

I do not see why people would get angry. It’s just a song. Lighten up! Everyone should laugh at themselves. Doesn’t Jesus say in the Christian New Testament and the Quran say “laugh at yourselfs; they shall be high in spirit?”

@ DUCKHEAD- Yes, Jesus is mentioned by name 5 times more than Muhammad in the Qur’an. That’s 25% more times than Muhammad.

No, in fact. He never said anything like that. Please read the Bible before quoting it. Actually, the Bible says he was given a name that is above every name so that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow of the things on the earth, under the earth and in heaven. It’s not a name to be making fun of. It’s a name to be revered. These guys will bow to Him one day or another. I hope it’s bowing to Him as Savior and not as Judge.

sirhan, Ive proven to you that the quran is NOT THE WORD OF GOD.
You state hitler is a Chritian also, you and your buddies are believers in that antichrist! so everything you claim is false, see.
      Muhammad came from Ishmael, FACT!
Heirs to the Jewish throne came from Isaac. FACT !
The Torah states, “My covenant I will establish with Isaac,” (Genesis 17:21)FACT! Later, God repeats the same message, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” (Genesis 21:12)FACT!
You defend this abomination called the quran by talking of Jesus?
That dude named ‘Yusuf Ali’ added the word ‘Abraham’ to your quran translations to make it read: “We gave (Abraham) Isaac and Jacob, and ordained among his progeny Prophethood and Revelation.” FACT! Ill bet this really gets ur turbin in a bunch that he would fudge this whole thing up like that! By adding Abraham, it is possible to include Muhammad in the prophetic line!FACT! (this however debunks YOUR entire religion!)
      OUCH!
However, Abraham is not found in the Arabic text of the Qur’an which YOU consider to be perfectly correct!
