Keith Hudson (Destiny Image)
Over the weekend, The Sun, a tabloid in the United Kingdom, joined countless outlets in reporting about the allegedly anti-Semitic comments that were made last week by singer Katy Perry’s father, Keith Hudson.
Hudson, an evangelical pastor, was delivering a sermon at Church on the Rise in Westlake, Ohio, when the controversial statements were uttered. Since the event, media outlets have been running wild with his words.
“You know how to make the Jew jealous? Have some money, honey,” he said. ”You go to LA and they own all the Rolex and diamond places. Walk down a part of LA where we live and it is so rich it smells. You ever smell rich? They are all Jews, hallelujah. Amen,” he continued.
The Sun called this a “sick blast,” while The Jewish Forward called it an “anti-Semitic rant.” And the Inquisitr referred to the comments as “hate speeches.” Even the Anti-Defamation League got involved, with the group’s national director harshly condemning the comments:
Keith Hudson’s unabashedly anti-Semitic remarks to hundreds of worshippers in Ohio about Jews and money are a reminder that the age-old stereotypes are alive and well and continue to bubble up to the surface in many segments of society. We have seen it previously manifested in pop culture and in religious and political spheres.
Church-based anti-Semitism historically has been one of the most virulent forms of this disease. We have made much progress in this country in terms of religiously based anti-Semitism. That’s why this manifestation is so disturbing…

Keith and Mary Hudson
But when the Blaze questioned Keith and his wife, Mary, in an exclusive interview, they offered up a very different explanation, calling the media’s depiction of the sermon “so out of context.”
During a phone call Monday afternoon, Keith said that the media have been inundating him with phone calls.
“I’m not anti-Semitic,” Keith explained. ”We have lots of Jewish friends. We’ve supported Jewish orphanages…The Hudsons do not mean any harm.”
Rather than a “sick blast” or a “rant,” he explained that the comments were said in jest and that there was certainly no harm meant by them. “I was joking. I have said this for years – I’ve said it in other churches before,” he continued.
Just before the comments were made, Keith said that he was talking about and praying for small business owners — mainly individuals who were self-employed. “I was talking about how God wants people to prosper and to be a blessing,” he explains. “God wants to bless you so you can be a blessing.”
It was after speaking and praying for these business owners that he made the joking comments about Jewish wealth. Quips about Judaism and wealth are widely regarded as pejorative and have been known to cause offense. But it’s the context that the Hudsons say is missing from media reports about the incident.

Mary went on to explain that the family has given thousands of dollars to Jewish charities and that they have supported Pastor John Hagee and Christians & Jews United for Israel.
Additionally, the husband and wife duo said that they have preached with Messianic Jewish leaders. According to Mary, her family may even have Jewish roots. ”We love the Jewish people,” she reiterated.
“I think where I erred was in using the word ‘Jews,’” Keith said, acknowledging the fact that some may see the word as offensive (though he maintains that he had no ill will in using the term). “I should have used the word ‘Jewish’ instead.”
In an interview with the Blaze, Pastor Phil Tammy Hotsenpiller (an expert in spreading faith in Hollywood whom we have profiled in the past), a close friend of the Hudson family, flatly rejected the notion that they are anti-Semitic.
“I would say it’s absolutely false,” Hotsenpiller said of the media’s anti-Jewish charges. “They’re some of the most pro-Israel people I know on the planet. There‘s rarely a conversation we have that doesn’t talk about blessing Israel [and] praying for Israel…”
The Blaze also interviewed David Schneier, a lawyer and a rabbi at the Messianic Initiative. When we told Schneier about the anti-Semitic allegations, he was surprised, as the Hudsons have worked with him in the past.
“Anyone who says anything like that — they don’t know them. Its nonsense,” he said. “I know them personally. They’ve attended conferences with the Messianic Congregation. They have never appeared to be and are not anti-Semitic. Period.”
Aside from failing to report the other side of the story, some media had details surrounding the incident incorrect. The Jewish Forward, for example, reported that Keith is “a preacher at an Ohio church” and that Mary, too, works for the same house of worship. Neither is true. The husband and wife were merely visiting the church and guest speaking when these comments were made.
Not every outlet jumped on the anti-Hudson bandwagon, though. Algemeiner.com seemed to, at the least, give the benefit of the doubt, writing:
Sometimes controversial remarks have clear malicious intent.
Sometimes they seem to be nothing more then idiotic, coming from a confused or misinformed source.
But sometimes it’s hard to know what the person was thinking, or what the purpose was of the remarks themselves. The father of international music star Katy Perry, Mr. Keith Hudson, seems to fall under that third category, but it really is hard to tell.
This story has certainly grown legs. The Hudsons, throughout our talk, reiterated their support for the Jewish people and were adamant about not meaning to offend. Still, there‘s no doubt many will remain offended by Keith’s comments.
What do you think? Let us know in the comments section.

Once again if you are a liberal anti-samite it is ok but if you are a conservative anti-semite is certainly a damnable thing. By the way did anybody catch the TV commentators after the Denver game all closing the broadcast by mocking Tebow praying. No outrage – everybody thinks it is funny to mock Christians.

Close! No they don’t want you asking questions concerning how so many of them amassed so much. Many think that they are blessed of God, even superior, hard working, extremely intelligent…etc.
All one has to do is look at the Banking Cartels across the globe including our very own Federal Reserve in order to understand it all… Really not that difficult.

Posted on January 9, 2012 at 10:04pmThe problem here is that if Mr. Hudson was doing what he should have been doing – giving the Gospel – then he wouldn’t be in this situation in the first place. Jest or not, Christ would never have said such a thing. Nor would the Apostle Paul, Peter, John, James nor any of the early disciples.
but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews {keepers of the law] a stumbling block and to the Greeks {intellectuals} foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. (1 Corinthians 1:23-24)
This business about wealth, health, & material prosperity is anti-biblical garbage. Christ promised no such thing, just the opposite:
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. IN THE WORLD YOU WILL HAVE TRIBULATION; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
(John 16:33)
My brethren, COUNT IT ALL JOY WHEN YOU FALL INTO VARIOUS TRIALS {problems, troubles}, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. (James 1:2-3)
In this you greatly rejoice, THOUGH NOW FOR A LITTLE WHILE, IF NEED BE, YOU HAVE BEEN GRIEVED BY VARIOUS TRIALS, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ… (1 Peter 1:6-8)
Mr. Hudson…preach the Gospel & teach the Word of God & leave the jokes to the comedians & the wealth building to the financial advisers.

Posted on January 10, 2012 at 12:07amSorry dude, that’s just heinous. Out of context this trope could have easily been used by Goebbels in a Nazi propaganda magazine. The phrasing “The Jew”, like “The International Jew ” – anti-Semitic pamphlets published by Henry Ford in the 1920s and the whole lusting after money and smelling rich it’s just so vulgar and cliché. This could have been one of those rude side gags on The Family Guy.
The ultimate test is to replace “Jew” with “black” and the words “money”, “rich”, “Rolex and diamond” with “fried chicken and ribs” and then decide if it’s racist.
This even makes Mr. Beck’s “Mr. Soros as Puppet Master”, “Reform Rabbis”, “Mr. Soros as Nazi collaborator” and Ms. Palin’s “Blood libel” gaffes appear mild by comparison.

The Jews we speak of are almost entirely from Russia. They are the ones that were the major part of the founding of the BOLSHEVIKS, Marxism, and Communism and many have come to America the only place in the world that has given them a safe home.
While they want our money to help Israel they are here taking OUR Christianity away with wealthy lawyers fighting those that have little or no money to fight back (It is unconstitutional BTW). It’s a gimmick and they work it well.
In the future, call them what they are “ARABS” just like their Middle East brothers or call them Bolsheviks but don’t call them Gods people or Americans. Remember they were KICKED out of their land by G-d.

Posted on January 10, 2012 at 9:44pm@NoRoomForSocialismHere,
You believe Jesus rules & is Lord, that is wonderful. Why then do you, who has been forgiven so much, rail against a man who has done nothing to you other than express his opinion (right, wrong, or otherwise). Would the Savior have spoken to him that way? I understand we all have feet of clay, & sin is ever present w/ us until we are glorified, but is it necessary as a Christian to rip into him in that manner? I understand others doing so, but I don’t understand disciples of Christ doing so. Jesus said “why do you call me Lord & not do what I say?” Luke 6:46
Jews are blind in part for our (gentile’s) sake – Romans 11:25, but that is not complete & not forever. Paul explicitly warned the non-Jewish believers in Romans 11 not to boast against the natural branch (see Romans 11:17-21). You might also want to read Jesus’ warning in Matthew 18:18-35.
BTW – all of the Apostles were Israelites, the Church stared in Jerusalem & it was my sin, your sin, warrior’s sin that crucified Christ – He’s called the Passover Lamb of God for a good reason. If you don’t understand that, then you might want to question whether your standing before the Lord, the King, is in fact secure in His righteousness. John 1:29, Matthew 7:22-24
Grace & Peace of the Lord to you.

However, the statement (“joke”) he made – regardless of the context – was anti-Semitic. His excuse that it was taken out of context is not any real excuse and changing the terminology from “Jew” to “Jewish” does not make it any better. In addition, the whole “I can’t be anti-Semitic because I have Jewish friends” does not hold water. That is no difference that saying “I can’t be anti-Black because I have Black friends.”

Jews do not believe that Jesus was the Mashiach (Hebrew for Messiah) Jesus does not fit the requirements for the Messiah according to Judaism, e.g., “The Jewish idea of mashiach is a great human leader like King David, not a savior”. If you believe he is then you are believing as a Christian. But this is a free country so you can believe whatever you like :-D

“Jesus does not fit the requirements for the Messiah according to Judaism”
Well that may be your problem then. Because He does meet the requirements according to Torah & the Prophets. Here’s a short version:
Emmanuel, born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14; Matt 1:23) in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2; Matthew 2, Luke 2) of the seed of David, of the tribe of Judah (Gen 49:9-10, Hosea 5:14, 2 Sam 7; Matt 1, Luke 3:31). Proclaimed the good news, healed the sick, gave sight to the blind (Isaiah 35:5-6 & 61:1; Matt 11:5, Luke 4:18 & 7:22), then was taken & tried illegally by the Sanhedrin, beaten, spat on, bruised, & crucified – though the representative of the world power at the time said “I find no fault in Him” (1 Sam 29:3; Luke 23, John 18 & 19).
Yet He was bruised & wounded, but NOT for His iniquities & transgressions (Pilate proclaimed Him innocent). So why? Because He was in our (your) place. He was literally fulfilling Isaiah 53 (& I’m certain you are familiar w/ that passage). He was (IS) the Passover Lamb of God, “karath”-executed, but not for Himself (Daniel 9:26).

This is but a very small # of Old Testament prophecies that Christ fulfilled – which the mathematical probability of a coincidental fulfillment is beyond absurd. It is however enough to start w/ – such that you may do your own examination of the Lamb to see that He is unspotted & that He is who He claimed to be (Luke 12:8 & 22:68, John 3:16 & 8:58, etc.). So if you are willing to at least give an honest examine of the scriptures – the Torah & Prophets & Psalms and do an fair reading of the New Testament to compare the claims, perhaps the Lord will open your eyes (I pray so).
His 1st coming – He suffered as a servant to save His brethren (ala Joseph). His 2nd coming He will take His rightful place on David’s throne (Luke 1:32, Revelation 3:7 & 5:5).
[Yeshua] said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.” Then they said to Him, “Who are You?” And Yeshua said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning. (John 8:23-25)

Posted on January 9, 2012 at 4:42pm““I would say it’s absolutely false,” Hotsenpiller said of the media’s anti-Jewish charges. “They’re some of the most pro-Israel people I know on the planet. There‘s rarely a conversation we have that doesn’t talk about blessing Israel [and] praying for Israel…””
I find this comment interesting. It‘s supposed to be defending the couple’s views on Jews, but instead it’s all about Israel. You can be pro-Jewish without being pro-Israel; you can also be pro-Israel without being pro-Jewish. They’re very different things (although obviously they’re often inter-connected). Makes me wonder if the couple is “pro-Jewish” just because of Israel’s existence?
That said, it doesn‘t make the couples’ comments much better. They give money to Jewish charities… so that means it’s fine to make these stereotypical comments? If I gave money to a black orphanage, could I call the kids there the N word? If I gave money to a Native American group, could I make jokes about small pox blankets?
What they said was pretty tame, obviously. But I find it’s off-handed comments like this that really show how people feel.

Posted on January 9, 2012 at 5:41pmMore parsing and over analyzing LOCKED? If you’re speaking about blessing Israel, you’re including the Jewish people. There’s no “could be, maybe, on the other hand” about it. You’re not speaking about the actual soil and periphery alone. The comments were delivered in a very ham-handed way. Out of context they reek of anti-semitism. They are very similar in tone to the stinky OWSer’s anti-semitic rants where they equate wealth with being Jewish. Saying all that…Katy Perry and her family are buffoons all…that’s including her soon be ex..although he‘s a West Ham supporter so there’s hope for him yet.

Ah, I missed you, Mr. Troll!
“If you’re speaking about blessing Israel, you’re including the Jewish people.”
But that’s not the question at hand. You can, for example, support Israel because it is a limited source of democracy in the Middle East, and a close ally of the US (this is my position). However, these folks seem to only support it because of their religious beliefs. If the country had no religious connotation, it would mean nothing to them; nor would the people.
I agree they were poor comments, but it seems like these sorts of comments come when the words don’t match the feeling behind them. Sure, the Perrys “support Israel.” That doesn’t mean they think much of the Jewish people; and that’s shown in their comments.

Oh yes, knowledge is the seedof evil, that which divides and spilts even the tiniest of hairs on humans. Heck, even particls so small we can’t even see them without million dollar microscopes. Yet, knoweledge still divides. This has become the fruit that has been born on Earth as a result of partaking of this fruit. Driven by fear, mankind falls back his laurels, resting on the security of being as God, the sense of having the power of God is what is desired. The fear is the motivator, meaning, man‘s lack of faith directs him to grab onto the known because he is to afraid that the unknown won’t satisfy his wants. While scripture promises, through faith, God will feed you, clothe you, and provide you shelter. This is the promise of God, but you must do the foot work, for faith with out works is dead.

Posted on January 10, 2012 at 1:00pmLocked, I am not spamming nothing. Only a person lacking wisdom would be so quick to discount that which he can’t comprehend.l. After looking through your comments, it is clear you are one who partakes of the tree of knowledge. Petrified with fear being driven in a million different directions, and having no idea who you truly are. Only but a projection of a perception of yourself. What sad life it is you must live only justifying your existence through some notion that you intellect gives your worth in this world. Apparently your upbringing was one that has left you in the anal stage of your life, feeling a constant overwhelming sense to control every aspect of your life through coercion, manipulation and justification. It is not your fault, as I am sure your parents were no more loved than yourself. So you seek security in what you know, discounting all that is foreign to you, and unwilling to think out side the box. Any suspecting threat to your world as you have it painted will induce a violent reaction of some sort, leaving you feeling sore. I don’t know if you believe in a God or not, but if you do, maybe you need to look into the mirror and ask your master, Who are you? That is, if you are not afraid. Until you write a moral inventory and come to understand the exact nature of what drives you, you have no right to discount the wisdom of others. What you know is only temporal, what I speak of is eternal, beyond the time by which your knowledge exists. “life”

You want Racist? There are fourteen colors of black people in the US, each with their own nomenclature and position in the pecking order. The O’Bamas, as mulattos are halfway up the list, “Africans” are at the bottom and they all resent the whites, people that are “whiter” and especially those that “pass” (passe blanc) as white. It’s race that is cataloged and categorized to the nearest eight percent.

I‘ve never met an Evangelical who doesn’t promote his support for Israel. However, that’s very different than not holding stereotypes against Jews. I’ve met plenty of Evangelicals like that.
The guy probably didn’t mean any harm by it, but it likely shows his true bias. I’m sure he stands with Israel, but if Israel didn‘t exist or wasn’t Biblically relevant, I don‘t think he’d support the Jewish people at all. I personally don’t trust people like that, who need their religion to tell them what group of people they should proclaim support for.
