Caught on Video: Aussie Politician Has No Idea What His PM Said — Supports It Anyway

Here’s a tip (free of charge!): if you’re on national television and you want to stand by something your president/prime minister/chancellor/Grand Poohbah said, make sure you know what they said first. Otherwise, you’ll end up looking like Australian workplace relations minister Bill Shorten.

During a Sky News interview, the politician refused to take a stance on whether the country’s Speaker should be allowed to return to his role after he was accused of sexual harassment and misuse of funds, The Telegraph reports.

“Not knowing what Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who was in Turkey at the time, had said on the topic he chose nonetheless to wholeheartedly agree with it,” the report adds.

“I haven‘t seen what she’s said, but let me say I support what it is she said,” he told interviewer David Speers.

“Hang on, you haven’t seen what she said?” Speers asked.

Shorten nodded: “But I support what my Prime Minister said.”

Speers asked Shorten for his personal view.

“My view is what the Prime Minister’s view is,” Shorten said.

Really? He has no idea what the PM said but he supports it anyway? Wow, it’s kind of a reverse Rufus T. Firefly:

“Surely you must have your own view on this,” Speers persisted.

“No, when you ask me if I’ve got a view on this, it’s such a general question, it invites me to go to lots of places,” Shorten meekly replied.

No. No, we’re pretty sure the question was specific: should Peter Slipper be allowed to return to the Speaker’s chair even though he has been accused of sexual misconduct and is currently under investigation for misuse of funds. That sounds pretty specific to us.

Shorten stuck to his guns and reiterated his point: “I‘m sure she’s right.”

Oh, and in case you were wondering what Shorten was agreeing with: the Australian PM said she believes Slipper should be reinstated in accordance with “a clear set of precedents where people have continued to function in their office while the subjects of civil matters,” Gawker’s Neetzan Zimmerman writes.

Shorten probably should have figured that out before going on TV.

Our Liberal Media would never have challenge him back that way – they would have just gone alone like it is the best decision in the World – even those they don’t know what the PM said!

Odd that Aussie has a 5% unemployment rate and health care. 95% of the work force is unionized and it’s no problem “mate”. You see the owners of the companies there are satisfied with profits of 30 – 40% where as here in the US. where the profits in the last ten years have risen 300-400% for the vastly rich who do not give a rip about anything but the bottom line!

Skimmer57 – what liberal rag are you getting your “facts” from???? It is not even close to what the government puts out. I’ll give you a clue – LOOK THEM UP YOURSELF and check both the labor and other party’s sites, as well as the government’s. I just spent less than half an hour and found many facts which disprove your facts. No, I am not going to put them into a post – you check them.

Skimmer, the profits… you are consuming a BS of several orders of magnitude, unless you made it up to see if it sticks.

Oil companies make about 2-3%. Utilities are a tad better, 4-5%. The best performing companies profit-wise are Apple (15%) and Google (19%). Big pharma is about 12-13% average. Manufacturing is in the 8-9% range. Food industry average is around 9-10%.

The figures are comparable in most industrialized countries. You’d have your pricing structure reflected in the desired profit margin and in a competitive market, prices that reflect the profit margins you propositioned would put you out of business right off the bat. As simple as that.

95% of the workforce is unionized? I worked in QLD and wasn’t in a union, nor was anyone I knew. Stop lying. I also had private healthcare, as did most folks in oz.

Most of them turn their heads the other way, because nothing affects their lifestyle. They are set for life with great healthcare, and a big pension. The only time it can affect them is if, say, they got caught doing something elicit in the oval office. Oh, wait we already saw that episode of a soap opera with one of out past presidents. He’s now stumping for Obama and raking it in.

That guy isnt the only one like him in the world..we have plenty of them in our govt and many many more in the general public. BAAA…

It is getting to the point in our country that they are becoming the majority. They are definitely a large part of the democrat party, and it goes the same for the other side. People are lazy in general and just go with the flow. BAAAAA

When people need to decide one way or the other on how to save their own life, then it will change, but that will take a SHTF event for that to occur, sadly. Most of the followers or “sheeple” wont make it.

There is not a Democrat in this country who would not do the same thing with O. No mater what the topic. They will just not be as blunt about it. They will filibuster but agree with what the WH said even without hearing it. And even if what was said was a bold face lie.
