Mayor Bloomberg Tells NYC Protesters to Leave…Temporarily

After waffling on whether he would eventually kick the Occupy Wall St. protesters out of NYC’s Zuccotti Park — the temporary home of the protesters — Bloomberg is finally taking a stand and informed the protesters they would have to leave on Friday. Sort of. It’s only temporary.

The company that owns the private park (but that is open to the public) sent a letter expressing concern over the condition of the park, concerned with both the park’s appearance and the unsanitary conditions.

Brookfield Office Properties sent the letter to Police Commissioner Ray Kelley on October 11 asking for his assistance to clear the park so it could be cleaned and repaired:

Brookfield’s Letter to NYPD asking to “clear” Zuccotti Park of Occupy Wall Street protesters

That letter led Bloomberg to address the protesters on Wednesday night, informing them the would have to leave:

But does that mean they have to leave for good? It doesn’t appear that way. A statement from Deputy Mayor for Operations Cas Halloway said the protesters would be allowed to return once the park is cleaned:

Deputy Mayor Holloway’s Statement about Mayor Bloomberg and Zuccotti Park

The Associated Press characterized Bloomberg’s visit as offering the protesters his “assurances.”

Still, it remains to be seen how the protesters will treat the impending action. Will they trust that they can return, or will they see it as a way for the city to break up their occupation. Either way, the mayor does seem worried about their reaction.

UPDATE:

The protesters are now refusing to move, according to Reuters:

Anti-Wall Street protesters threatened on Thursday to block any efforts by clean-up crews to enter their camp to clear away three-weeks worth of debris, raising anxiety about a potential showdown between demonstrators and police.

[...]

Occupy Wall Street pledged to resist any effort by cleaning crews or police to enter the park, asking protesters to create a human chain around the area to “peacefully/non-violently stand our ground,” according to a post on its Facebook page.

Just how many civilized people do these pigs think that they are going to get to join their stinkin revolution. We don’t need no stinkin revoution, we just need to elect some real conservatives that will declaw and dimantle the huge monopolistic, government protected banks starting with the federal reserve. It is going to take years to get the country back to genuine prosperity and growth. If we cannot get the politicians to do their jobs then we wil need to have our brutal ugly revolution. We will make the rich pay and then we can all starve together in the dark.

      According to the Reuters article,

“The movement, which began on September 17 when protesters set up camp in Lower Manhattan, plans to undertake its own clean-up effort and sent out requests on Thursday for mops, brooms, garbage bags and power washers.”

Oh. So they will clean up their mess now? That same mess they shouldn’t have created in the first place? IF they do clean-up, will it be with the same amount of enthusiasm they had while making the mess? Doubtful.

And they have conveniently forgotten to address the fact that they are violating numerous laws.

Yes and who is the major TAX CONTRIBUTOR that funds the services cleaning up and securing the occupy wall street protest ?? WALL STREET .. Only in America could people go and literally poop and pee on your property, accuse you of countless crimes and defecate on your name, then have YOU pay to have it cleaned up. Got love it …
These idiots are coming to Pittsburgh and I think it is hilarious. Oddly, I actually agree with there supposed cause, but the problem here is different than other city’s. They are protesting the health insurance giant and monopolizer of Pittsburgh, UPMC, Which, ironically, is University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. They have the luxury of purporting they are non-profit and pay NO taxes, yet, they have taken over the health system in the region. If you are a capitalist entrepreneur and own a private practice, these jerks literally will work you over(raking back 50,000 from my buddie). They own every hospital, have an arm in medicare and medicaid, and even run the CBO which is the agency that works for the government and decides just how much a private practice can charge. This should be illegal. Interestingly, I don’t think these protestors actually realize they are part of the same kind of BS they are protesting. UPMC is the perfect example of what happens when the a monopoly occurs because of the government playing partial to the University. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, this is certainly the case here.

Surround the park with fire fighters and hose all the protesters.
Wash the trash away and then the litter.

If I owned the property I’d close it down.
The owners should sell it, on paper, and close it as a park.
Arrest anyone that will not leave after that.

Freedom of SPEECH does not give you the right to occupy someone elses property.

Great, throw them out. Jail them. Deport them if it’s applicable.

They aren’t the only ones with rights.

People who live there have the right to peace, quiet, safety and cleanliness.

It‘s costing millions already of taxpayers’ money to deal with this – that’s money that could go to help people.

This isn’t the 60s. You aren’t flower children. This is just party, party party time and the place to be. It’s a tool used by communists and socialists and unions.

Get up, get out, stay out. This isn’t a peaceful protest anymore – it’s b.s. – and all of you know it.
