Bloombergs Solution For Ailing U.S. Cities: The Feds Should Deliberately Force Them to Take ImmigrantsNew York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has a solution for how ailing U.S. cities can boost economic output: the feds should “deliberately force” them to accept immigrants.

“There’s no reason why you have to have a common immigration policy for all of America,” Bloomberg said Tuesday. “You could let each state do it differently.”

“I would argue the federal government should go one step further. They should deliberately force some places that don’t want immigrants to take them, because that’s the only solution for these big, hollowed-out cities where industry has left and is never going to come back unless you get some people to move there,” he added.

Speaking at a Midtown forum where the topic was a new study titled “Not Coming to America: Why the US is Falling Behind in the Global Race for Talent,” Bloomberg also chastised the Obama administration for deporting more immigrants “than the last four or five presidents put together.”

The study, which was underwritten by a company owned by Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas, claims that while the rest of the world is snatching up immigrant talent, the U.S. turns it away. In fact, according to the study, Canada “allows its provinces to set different immigration standards to attract the type of employees each region needs,” the New York Post reports. Bloomberg argued that the U.S. should adopt the Canadian strategy.

But careful to not fault President Barack Obama too much, Bloomberg said the nation’s failed immigration policies can be blamed on both parties.

“What‘s happened in government is they’re worried so much about getting re-elected, it’s become so partisan, that they just don’t even consider immigration as a real issue,” Bloomberg said.

“All they do is look to see what the politics of it are, and they never get around to discussing what the economics of it are or what the impact is on the educational system or business formation,” he added.

Bloomberg went on to say that the immigration debate has been set up around a “myth of masses of people coming across the border in the middle of the night,” and taking free stuff from the state, but that simply isn’t the case, according to Crain.

“The demagoguery against it has no basis,” Bloomberg said. “There are no heroes here. You show me anybody who has stood up.”

“The mayor credited immigrants with helping New York City’s economy rebound faster than the rest of the nation. He said he wasn’t ‘dissing everybody’ else, but that immigrants work harder and have helped to revitalize neighborhoods across the city,” Crain’s Daniel Massey writes.

      Immigrants might produce more than natives if, where they came from was harsh, but eventually they throttle back

      I saw that with my spouse. They were like why break my back if the government is just going to tax at ever higher marginal rates.

      People who think like a Bloomberg should have shock collar placed on them.

      Better yet the shock collars should be linked to a thought reader. Every time they think a bad thought they should get shocked. Bloomberg would go spastic permanently if fitted with such a collar.

      The reason Bloomberg and other internationalist want cities to be forced to take immigrants is simple. The US economy is purposely being destroyed so our wealth can be redistributed. The World Trade Organization has determined that our workers take too much in salary and benefits. The US must have workers who don’t make so much money for their labor. Otherwise,we can not compete with world for jobs.Less jobs means less tax revenue. Of course Bloomberg needs more low wage workers to keep his job.

      What if we put our prison inmates to work doing the grunt labor instead of bringing in “migrant workers”?
      What if we took action to actually motivate US companies to keep their manufacturing plants in the US?
      What if we developed our high school and university curriculum for real life?

      I am a high school, career and technical teacher in Utah, and we actually have our students get internships at places in which they want to work or study in college. Before I started teaching, I worked at a couple of very well known computer corporations…. I teach what my students need to get jobs.

As a nation there is only so much we can do our food supply is limited by govermant regulations so now we import from south america! When illegals enter they come in without a passport.       Agreeed, but we need to remember that we already have a federally mandated program in place to control where certain classes of people live. It is called Section 8.
      Hey, Sec Clownitano, put up signs along the border in Spanish giving directions to NYC and then specifically to Bloomberg’s office. He could then take over the UN HQ, kick out the so-called diplomats, and house all his new citizens there.

      He never should have been granted the “permission” to run his last term. He is a control freak who is killing NYC. I live (thankfully) outside the city and don’t go there very often. He controls what foods are donated to homeless shelters, how much salt a chef can add to his/her recipe, smoking and non smoking buildings in NYC and so much more. He has gotten involved in every aspect of New Yorkers lives and they allow it. Restaurants get the Bloomberg’s thumps up if he agrees with their menu and restaurant. He is a dictator, most of NY is really awful now, and I can’t wait to move the he!! out of here.

      Same in politics. It is hard to get stuff done higher up especially if politic climate id fractious. no problem. Just rule by decree.
