Boehner Responds to Obama’s Address: ‘The Bigger the Government, the Smaller the People’

In his response to President Obama’s televised address to the nation Monday night, House Speaker John Boehner stuck to his guns, giving no indication he would be willing to compromise with the President on a debt deal.
During his address, Boehner asserted that when government grows to the point where it encroaches on people’s lives, people themselves are diminished. Boehner stated, “You know, I’ve always believed, the bigger government, the smaller the people. And right now, we have a government so big and so expensive it’s sapping the drive of our people and keeping our economy from running at full capacity.”
Boehner, who said he ran a small business in Ohio before serving in Congress, was “amazed at how different” Washington DC operated than “every business in America.”
“Where most American business make the hard choices to pay their bills and live within their means, in Washington more spending and more debt is business as usual,” opened Boehner.
“I’ve got news for Washington – those days are over,” he warned.
According to the Speaker, Obama came to Congress in January requesting “business as usual,” which, to Boehner, meant “yet another routine increase in the national debt limit.”
“Here was the president, asking for the largest debt increase in American history, on the heels of the largest spending binge in American history,” Boehner continued.
“Here’s what we got for that spending binge: a massive health care bill that most Americans never asked for. A ‘stimulus’ bill that was more effective in producing material for late-night comedians than it was in producing jobs. And a national debt that has gotten so out of hand it has sparked a crisis without precedent in my lifetime or yours,” the Speaker blasted.
Boehner, who believes his caucus has done their best to “convince” Obama to partner with them in an effort to make dramatic changes to the nation’s fiscal trajectory, expressed disappointment in the fact that the President said he would veto the House’s bipartisan ‘Cut, Cap, and Balance’ Act before it was even passed.
“It CUTS and CAPS government spending and paves the way for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution, which we believe is the best way to stop Washington from spending money it doesn’t have,” Boehner said.
Boehner said he wants the American people to know he “made a sincere effort” to work with Obama in finding a solution that would implement the principles of Cut, Cap, & Balance “in a manner that could secure bipartisan support and be signed into law. ”
“I gave it my all,” the Speaker lamented.
“Unfortunately,” according to Boehner, Obama would “not take yes for an answer.”
“The sad truth,” Boehner pressed, is that Obama “wanted a blank check six months ago and he wants a blank check today.”
But, says Boehner, that is just “not going to happen.”
While Boehner acknowledged that the U.S. government cannot default on its debts, he believes the “crisis-atmosphere,” started by the President, “will simply disappear” if the Senate approves House Republicans’ new plan this week, and Obama signs the bill into effect.
“The debt limit will be raised,” explained Boehner, and ”spending will be cut by more than one trillion dollars.”
The “debate,” according to Boehner, “isn’t about President Obama and House Republicans,“ nor is it about Congress and the White House ”… it’s about what’s standing between the American people and the future we seek for ourselves and our families,” the Speaker explained.
The Speaker, who believes breaking the nation’s debt-grip will “liberate” our economy, said he hopes the President will join Republicans in working to find a way forward.

Agree to raise our ability to spend more money to cover the destruction Ive already incurred, or, I will tell geithner and the boys to with-hold your checks, interest payments on the debt, and collapse the military if you dont comply. the second option means you will have to pay 50x more in inflation, interest rates, taxes and fees, and we will have to levy a tax on heartbeats… raising the debt ceiling is the least penalizing option. If the president spent as much time constructing practical and meaningful financial policies to correct the path of America as he does campaigning, perhaps there would be no stalemate and impending crisis. Posted on July 25, 2011 at 11:15pmNew debt-ceiling agreement could create a powerful “Super Congress” –There is some alarming news coming out of the debt negotiations. Hidden in any deal may be the creation of a “Super Congress” that would result in more power being placed in the hands of the super-elitists and dilute the influence of the average congressman. which some on Capitol Hill are calling the “super committee” — would then be fast-tracked through both chambers, where it couldn’t be amended by simple, regular lawmakers, who’d have the ability only to cast an up or down vote. With the weight of both leaderships behind it, a product originated by the Super Congress would have a strong chance of moving through the little Congress and quickly becoming law. A Super Congress would be less accountable than the system that exists today, and would find it easier to strip the public of popular benefits. Negotiators are currently considering cutting the mortgage deduction and tax credits for retirement savings, for instance, extremely popular policies that would be difficult to slice up using the traditional legislative process.House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has made a Super Congress a central part of his last-minute proposal, multiple news reports and people familiar with his plan say…Obama has shown himself to be a fan of the commission approach to cutting social programs and entitlements.

Posted on July 26, 2011 at 7:43pmI watched both speeches last night. President Obama stated his case clearly and concisely. But I have to admit, that I made sure I didn’t blink my eyes alot when Speaker Boehner spoke. Because if I did, I would have missed a major portion of what he said.
President Obama spoke to the people. The truth of the matter. TO EVERYONE. He sympathizes with the middle class, making reference to their plight and daily battles. He clearly outlined the heart of the problem, even addressing himself to the rich. The heart of the problem was revealed.
Speaker Boehner didn’t speak to the people. He spoke only propaganda and talking points and rhetoric. Never was there a mention of the middle class and what Congress can do to ease this crisis. It seems he only spoke to his followers, his fellow legislators in the Republican Party in Congress and to the rich. He spoke dogma. He didn’t speak about what is right and what needs to be done to fix America. It was more of this “my way or the expressway” stuff. You either jump on board his crazy train, or stand out there and get run over. And his way ensures they go forward over you, then they put it in reverse and back up over you again, making sure he does it a few times to make sure you end up mush. He wants Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid not only destroyed but crushed. He wants the Bush tax cuts for the filthy rich to go on forever. And like any good Republican, if put in power, they would enjoy going to war with other countrie
