Boehner & Reid Reach a Deal to Keep Gov’t Funded

The top Republican and Democrat on Capitol Hill have announced an agreement to keep the government running on autopilot for six months when the current budget year ends on Sept. 30. The announcements by Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and GOP House Speaker John Boehner are aimed at averting any chance of a government shutdown this fall.
“The temporary spending bill is needed because Congress has been unable to pass a series of appropriations bills to fund the government in fiscal 2013, which runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, 2013,” CNBC adds.
It would also lighten the crush of business in a post-election congressional session agenda that’s already overloaded.
The agreement would fund the government at levels called for by last summer’s budget and debt pact between Boehner and President Barack Obama. The agreement embraces spending at a total annualized rate of $1.047 trillion for the day-to-day operations of Cabinet departments like the Pentagon and other federal agencies.
However, it‘s important to note the following from CNBC’s John Harwood: “Republicans had sought to reduce the $1.047 trillion level set for discretionary spending bills for fiscal 2013 by $19 billion. But to secure an extension that reaches well into next year, they agreed to put their bid for deeper cuts on hold.”
But there might be something else to this other than simply abandoning their proposed cuts.
“Should Republicans win big in November, the six-month extension would put them in a position for deeper cuts next year, rather than leaving spending decisions to a post-election, lame-duck Congress,” Harwood reports, adding that the agreement doesn’t raise the debt ceiling or solve the “fiscal cliff” problem.
The Associated Press contribute to this report.

Personally I’m for a flat tax or abolition in replace of national sales tax.. In other words I’m for the principle of low and fair taxes for all; however, many Repubs like Oreilly Boehner and others are only out to protect their wealth.. Again they are so shallow and they disgust me!
So wait till Republicans get control and instill austerity? Is that the plan?? What a bunch of morons!! Then you’ll only be thrown out in 2 years you idiots! Do you not want to make broad sweeping changes? Can‘t do that if you don’t have power and trust me you won’t have it long if you enact sweeping austerity.. OK, I understand. It goes beyond that original post. That being said, your visceral (my interpretation) response to libertarianism is predicated on a “trading of baseball cards” so to speak when it comes to policy.
Libertarians are non-interventionalists and are for legalization of drugs. Clearly you are for interventionist foreign policy and the continued banning of drugs. Now, we could argue both ways about the effectiveness of those policies and probably not convince each other. But that’s not the point. The point is that the party/candidates that promote your view on those two issues also allow for bloated government, unaudited federal reserve, patriot act, drone surveilance, deficit spending, departments of this that and the other, the EPA, the TSA, the ATF, etc.
I’m not sure, but I’d surmise that you and I would agree that most (if not all) of what I described is bad and we’d like to end that. The difference, as I see it, is that you would be willing to accept all of those things in order to keep drugs legal and to keep our military engaged overseas. I do not, obviously. The LP isn’t perfect for me either. I don’t agree lock stock an barrel with them. BUT, I have done a rationalization of polices, outcomes and principles and can’t find a way to rationalize all of those things I listed above at any cost.

Something needs to change for sure, but don’t ever forget, you can‘t rehabilitate someone who doesn’t WANT to change, – unless you go the “Clockwork Orange” route.
And he Does allow for war in DEFENSE. Good enough.
I change my stance on the PARTY, but I never felt he had a chance in Hades of getting elected due to his “charisma” and with the media as it is, I still stand by that.

If that is to occur, we have to hold any and all coming in, with their feet to the fires and ensure they do as the people demand in making the cuts reality.
With the Democratic national leadership declaring the other day that they would rather see the economy and the nation collapse than yield to the Republicans; I sense the real game will be with the fiscal cliff and debt ceiling battle soon to occur.

I haven’t found a political party that sees the world exactly as I do. I am a pro-life libertarian. There are lots of us but we aren’t the majority. Most see it as a state issue. Others are simply pro-abortion. BUT, the LP generally reflects most of my views and allows for the resolution at the state level where they do not.
As for immigration, unless you are going to fully militarize the border there will be illegal immigration. Just like banning drugs doesn‘t get rid of drugs or the war on poverty doesn’t get rid of poverty. Truth is that we are all immigrants of some sort. Our country is founded upon this premise. We need to allow for the legal entry of productive potential citizens. You want to come here? Sign the guest book. Work towards naturalization. Pay taxes. Join churches and communities. Why would we have a problem with productive and legal immigration. I‘d say we all agree that we wouldn’t. The problem arises when our government makes legal immigration nearly impossible and in the same breath (from a policy perspective) increases the incentives for illegal immigration. It makes no sense. I think you’re painting with a broad brush on the LP immigration stance. Like most things, it’s more complicated than a bumper sticker.
